on the 4S to access camera you double tap the middle button, then hold camera button and scroll it up to open up camera. the iphone 5 might work like you say. if you try to double click on camera on 4S it would do nothing, just hold and scroll up
I am also new to iPhone and found the video helpful. But I could not get rid of my background apps in the way you suggested. I somehow remember the fellow at the store swiping them off with his finger, but that's not working either. So much to learn.
Open Settings and tap General, then Siri Tap My Info and select the Contact you just created of yourself. Make sure you selected it from "iCloud" or "iPhone." This only applies to the Contact entry for yourself. You don't need to modify the Contact entry for your mother and other Relationships.
One more thing...I am now using iOS version 7.0.3 and one particular feature is not working that you described earlier. When I double-click the HOME button, instead of being able to select the camera icon to go directly to the camera, I have to swipe to unlock the screen. But, then once I do that, not only does the icon go away, but I am pretty much resigned to just going to the camera the old fashioned way!
When I am getting rid of background apps on my phone it is different to that you double click home button and then a big picture of the background apps comes up and to close it you flick it up an it goes away.
I'm thinking about getting my mom to buy me an iPhone 4s considering the iPhone 4, and 4s are the only ones available for the Virgin Mobile carrier (for no-contract phones.) At our local Radio Shack, the price is low but will bump up again fairly soon it'll cost my mom $500.00 dollars at the most (if I choose to wait to get a case) These tips are very helpful to someone who will be new to the iPhone all together.

I’m watching this in 2019 yo!!! Just bought an iPhone 4s for my small Apple collection but I also had one back in 2012 and I loved it!! The weight and the solid feeling of it doesn’t feel like a cheap phone!!! I was able to downgrade it to iOS 6.1.3 because this version is still signed by Apple so I was able to easily restore it through iTunes!!!!

I double click the buttom and all my opened appications pop up, with a big image above each one. I hold the icon like u said but no minus button appears. If i just press it for a few seconds and release it goes to the application i was trying to close...
These are all fine and dandy, but you can do most of them with almost every model. Besides the first tip with Siri; I did all of those things on my iPod 2g.

when u keep pushing on an app without moving your finger they start moving, and than u can move an app and hold it to the side of the iPhone or iPod or idk and that there is automatic a new home screen (if u mean this because my english is bad sorry for that)

you can hole down the power button untill the slide to power off thing come up, and then hole the home button for 10 seconds, and then the slide to power off thng will be gone, and then your device will refresh.

Swipe the big image upwards
That helps out a whole lot, some of those I didn't even know about, exp things running in your back ground so no wonder why my phone is running slow
portrait orientation lock works on my ipod 3 i didnt know that that was for orientation lock. I've never used it before.

Closing apps yes you should do that daily because my phone network charged me for having apps open when I was not in a. Wifi aerea just 3G

Aha! I just swiped them off by lightly running my thumb from the bottom up. Great idea. I just did not understand that by getting rid of the background apps it would save my phone. I actually had never done that.
