This is Van Life in all it's glory.
As we continue to attempt van life is Scotland we hit more delays with a flat tyre during heavy rain! Finding a new one in remote Scotland will obviously take a few days so we are stuck (again!)
There is still some great scenery and nature though as Lou's hunt for the red squirrel continues and a dramatic sunset at an amazing park up on the coast.
This episode, we feel, is a real honest look at van life in Scotland in the Autumn. The west coast was always going to be challenging with the weather, although this is just the start, as I type this we are sat in quite a terrifying storm, not so much fun in a panel van...
Hopefully you are enjoying this Scottish travel series as much as we are and we are managing to show you just some of the stunning landscapes and amazing wild camping Scotland has to offer in this Scottish travel vlog.
As usual, we have tried to include a bit of everything, some cinematic scenery mixed with our usual female van life foolery, we always love hearing what you lot think in the comments so do let us know, and as always, thank you for watching!
Follow us on our journey as we attempt to create a proper youtube travel series as we, two female travelers and vanlifers, attempt to travel across Europe in our rolling tiny home.
Hit the subscribe button to see where our DIY campervan takes us next and how this van life couple copes living in a van!

I went to use your camper10 code last week only to find that YFoods was offering £5.00 discount voucher online which slightly under cut your 10% offer on the price range I was looking at! I wrote to them suggesting it didn't seem fair that they were undercutting you, they didn't reply? Great channel, glad you found the red squirrel, I went looking for them in a Wales hotspot but no joy.

The different sized wheels causes errors because the rotation sensors report different speeds on the wheels. This affects ABS, traction control and incline holding. Fortunately they clear themselves when you replace the wheel.

Wheel nuts can be a pig at times to get off, even for a guy. I got myself an extending wheel brace which doesn't stick out far from the wheel making it steadier, and the extending handle gives you loads of leverage.
Good on you for getting it done in such appalling conditions.

I like the fact that you two show the REAL VAN LIFE, not just the unicorns and rainbows. Love all the sarcastic little quips from Louise and all the little fun facts with Emily. Hope the fur babies are doing well, and keep those beautiful smiles coming, it'll get better! Stay safe and enjoy your time in Scotland! I'm so jealous! Even with all the little mishaps and side steps, I'd still love to be there enjoying your company and seeing all the magnificent landscapes and local communities.

And there is one reason to love Denmark: they actually have a law dicating drivers to slow down in wet conditions so that they don't spray cyclists or pedestrians. As a side note: we carry a high-viz vest and pilons and a warning triangle to put down in case of a breakdown (which in many countries is mandatory to have). Aslo last time we broke down me and my kids went away from the car and road out in safety while my husband tried to fix the problem, but I understand you had to do some team work to change the tyre here, well done for that!

I feel your pain changing that tire. Of course the tire service put those lug nuts on with an impact wrench so they are a REAL PAIN to remove. A trick we use our our RV rig is once the service uses an impact wrench, we have them loosen the lugs and then hand tighten them with a wrench. Another technique we just started using was carrying a battery powered 1/2 impact wrench. We use the impact wrench for other things as well like lowering our stabilizers, etc. It's a life saver especially on a busy road in the rain. I also carry two lego blocks (found at any RV shop) that I can use if I have to jack the vehicle and I"m in mud or dirt. Safe travels

In the States, it is customary for passing vehicles, including big rigs, to attempt to slow down while passing someone working on a jacked up vehicle and someone is working on the road hanging a tire. Granted, it's not always possible, but I am also surprised no one stopped to help. wtf?

We have followed you from day one and consider you are the best and most informative film makers in the business. Watched your tyre changing video and three things caused me concern. Firstly: Are you certain you are using the correct wheel nuts? There is a marked difference between aluminium and steel nuts and a common problem is difficulty undoing steel wheel nuts on an aluminium wheel. Secondly: The bar you are using as a wheel brace is far too long. Torque (effort) is lost due to the bar twisting and nut damage is inevitable. Given the wild places you travel, you really must invest in a proper brace. Thirdly: When the tyre fitters fitted your wheel I didn’t see them torquing the wheel nuts. This is a must, no excuses. Sorry to sound like your dad but after 54 years in the motor trade as a mechanic, I really do know what I am talking about. Keep up the good work. Jeff and Angie x

first time i changed a tyre on my old transit after buying it, i had to use a two foot breaker bar with a six foot scaffold pole to extend it and then had to stand on the end of the pole with my whole 13 stone weight before the nut cracked so you were very lucky to undo yours.I highly recomend a three foot breaker bar with a branded socket for your wheels and it takes up very little room in the van

17:45 onwards is like HEAVEN wherever that Haven is. I only ever went to Kirkaldy in Scotland WAY BACK. Fabulous job with the tyre, so glad you're both SAFE 😻 Well, I've been watching you both for a while and you are inspirational and make me feel GOOD about life but have to admit near the end I shed a tear with your immense love for each other whilst reflecting on my singleness ever since 1997 when my partner died. I've been happily single all this time but now after a year in my 2010 Caravan saving for a mortgage I'm thinking it would be nice to have companionship but I'm not 100% sure but I had a "gone with the wind" 3 month affair with a local woman years ago and it was just so beautiful and heartfelt but she moved north. I'm not sure how to "find love" in my older years but I suppose love finds you I guess. It's the little things I miss, the silly little things that you take for granted in a loving relationship. Would love to travel New Zealand with a partner but I don't think it'll happen but we'll see but you certainly shower my days with happy positivity. I don't expect a reply here, I write books LOL, life is too short and very beautiful and so each day is precious. Thanks for the video, the editing is spectacular and the vibes are top notch. Blessings to you both, stay safe, stay fabulous 🌻

Get yourselves a Telescopic wheel nut wrench really helps if you have tight nuts, obviously don’t use it extended to do the nuts up as that would make them too tight. The other thing you can do, is turn the wheel so the nut is at a lower point. Jack it up, put the wrench on, touching the ground, then whilst one of you keeps your foot firmly on the brake, lower the jack (obviously be careful doing this)

Just love it when your fellow road users can’t be bothered to slow down much less move over or, heaven forbid, stop to help 🙄 Your fault codes were due to the mismatched tire diameters, which throws off the computer’s ability to calculate vehicle speed. Great photos from the nature blind too!

    A few tips on tyres:-
    1. Always have the same tyres and rims on the vehicle, unless the factory standard is different sizes on the front and rear [rare these days]. And rotate the wheels according to the owner's/workshop manual. [This includes the spare. Some vehicles have a smaller {emergency} tyre and I don't know how manufacturers get away with this dangerous practice].
    2. If you have a front wheel puncture, swap it with a rear wheel/tyre or the {good} spare.
    3. Tyres age, so there is no value in not rotating tyres. If you don't use the spare, although it looks new with plenty of tread, the rubber becomes weaker with age.
    4. Consider carrying a spare tyre tube, tube patch kit and tyre irons, and a [tubeless] tyre repair kit, with of course a air pump. Also a hydraulic jack makes life much easier.
    5. In an ideal world both users and mechanics/tyre shop people should torque the wheel nuts to the right specs, but that does not always happen. A torque wrench is a great investment. Once you get used to using it, you can guess the right torque with a normal wrench.
    6. Tighten nuts on opposite sides of the wheel. Finger tighten them first, or use a cordless drill, but don't over tighten them with it, the idea is to seat the nut in the wheel. Most drills have a slip capacity over a certain torque.
    7. Loosen all the wheel nuts at home, where you have a good jack, shelter from the weather, etc, and re-tighten the nuts at the proper torque. I used to put a little graphite powder on the threads. This is controversial as torque specs are for dry nut tightening. WD 40 or similar is great for loosening rusty wheel nuts. I would only lube wheel nuts if they have locking lugs on them, which you can buy for some vehicles, especially serious 4WDs.
Obviously, the repair and re-use of a flat depends on the damage. The bead [seal] between tyre and rim had to be in good condition and tubeless tyres, and not leak air, which is why I suggested carrying a spare tube. If the budget is too stretched to buy a new tyre, put any suspect/repaired ones on the back axle.
Practicing emergency repairs and preparing the vehicle at home not only makes breakdowns less likely, but gives you skills to do emergency repairs under less than ideal conditions with more confidence.

Em' was right about the fault-codes.
Your spare is obviously a different diameter to your normal wheels and, as a result, the wheel-speed sensors are detecting that the 15" wheel is doing a different RPM to the other wheels, which is confusing the ABS controller... and all those other systems rely on the ABS system to operate.
FWIW, when you have a dodgy spare wheel, and you get a puncture on the driven axle (of a 2WD vehicle), you should fit the spare to the un-driven axle and then transfer a normal wheel to the driven axle - in your case that'd mean taking off a rear wheel, fitting the spare to the rear and then putting the rear wheel on the front.
I know that's a PITA but when you have different diameter wheels on the driven axle it puts stress on the differential and gearbox and can quite easily cause damage.
Also, do yourself a favour and get a 1/2" drive breaker bar and a suitable socket to use for wheelnuts instead of that "thing" Citroen provide.
You'll need to keep the Citroen wheelbrace for accessing the spare but it'll be MUCH easier to loosen wheelnuts with a proper breaker bar and socket.

Great video as always. One thing although entertaining (if you're not having to do it yourself) is wheel changing. We all spend money on mods and upgrades to vans, but we never seem to spend a few quid to upgrade the minimal and cheapest option wheel changing gear that comes as standard with the the van. For starters...one pair of work gloves. An extension, or extending bar to get the wheel nuts off, makes it so easy. Sometimes as simple as a piece of metal tube that slides over the existing bar. Or for about £15 a purpose made one. Either keep the existing jack, or if you're happy about identifying correct jacking points, replace with a suitable 'bottle jack' but add, if the fitting allows, a self ratcheting spanner, so you don't have to take off an reapply the lever bar every half turn or so.
Maybe add a can of 'get out of trouble' leak fix. This may mean you can move at least away from all the dangerous traffic (although once used the tyre has to be replaced and cannot be repaired)
Changing all or just a few of these things makes the experience a little less effort.
