    the moonshade manufacturer ,Moon Fab also makes stainless steel channel rail anchors that come in 5/16th inch, 3/8s inch and half in diameter barrels. The barrels are about an inch long and the have a locking in place eye bolt. They slide into the channel rail ( built into almost all of the trailers built in the 50s and 60s for the rope tarps ) and lock into position when the eye bolt is tightened. I use the moon shade on my 1956 Terry trailer and it works really well.

    Highly recommend the Moonshade. My Moonshade was missing the mounting strut necessary to attach it to my vehicle. Contacted the company. They got another one out to me , so they definitely support their product. Took longer than anticipated due to the current pandemic, but that's out of everyone's control.

    Just bought a Moonshade with your link. You sell the product really well. Thoroughly enjoying your vanbuild vids. I just got started on a build that's going to be very similar to yours. Keep it coming, Matt. Cheers!

      Hehe, we are definitely fans of it and are happy to have not spent the thousand plus dollars on a permanent awning. This minilist style is right up our alley. I hope you'll be as happy as we are when you get yours! 😊 I'm glad you are enjoying the videos and hope they can be helpful during your build. Congrats on taking the jump into the DIY adventure! 🙌🏻

    Thanks for making the video! It may not have worked, but at least you showed the concept and explained the theoretical function. That helped :)

      I debated if I should try to add a spacer and push the rings out further from where they sit since there is plenty of extra thread on the eye bolt. It would work then. It's a very cool feature to have. I did notice after the fact they suggest stepping up in the cab of your van to attach the first one then using the cord for the back one in case you plan to try it 👍🏼

      @@Trailvagabonds I wonder if it would help to put the cross supports in the tarp first so you gain leverage? Or flip the bolt assembly so the eye bolt is on the top of the support? That might open the space between tarp and van, which would make it less effective at stopping the rain, but might give you more room... just a thought 😁

      I'm not sure I want it any higher, I like how low profile the rack is currently. I think adding a spacer so the ring sticks out closer to the edge of the roof would be more my style and should give the space needed

    Purchase the moon shade on Christmas Day and look forward to it’s arrival. I am excited to use my van more for Van tent camping than doing a build inside since I have the Ram PROMASTER City. Winter now, but spring is right around the corner!!

      It is such a great product, you'll love it! Congrats on the van! Sounds like a great idea. You can haul all the gear you need and tenting can be very comfortable! No wrong way to do van life! 😊

      @@Trailvagabonds I took a bike touring course in VA a few years back where we carried all our gear on the bike in panniers. As cool as that was I didn’t like having to shop for food by bike. I prefer having a SAG Van, hence the purchase. Looking forward to riding more outside of my local area soon.

      Did you see our bikepacking video in Pisgah National Forest? We have some big goals for the future with bike touring. With the van, I do love the ability to park it and do day trips on the bikes and have a place to come back to for the evening. Many adventures like it to come! Do you live in Virginia or in the SE?

      @@Trailvagabonds I did not see the video, is it on your website or You tube? I live in RI, did the tour through Adventure cycling. It was a great learning and inexpensive because it was a class. Bike touring trips are usually very expensive so I am looking to make my own fun. A friend and I toured Cape Cod/Martha’s Vineyard one year over a week. That was a blast minus the fact that we had a heat wave with temps 90+ every day hahaha.

    Sooooo I as well am going to be making my own rack. I will search your other videos maybe you have a rack build. Can you please let me know where you got your brackets/mounts for the Promaster. Sticks on the little tabs on the roof. Great job

      There is the first of 2 episodes on our roof rack. It's more about the tilt mount but has some info. We used DIY Van's roof attachements with 80/20 extruded aluminum. I worked with a local distributor to source the 80/20 I needed.

      @Trailvagabonds  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I built it myself out of 80/20 extruded aluminum and the Promaster roof connectors from DIY Van. I had a couple videos about it (though mostly about the solar tilt mount I created). Here's the first part-

    You have to carry ladder all the time in order to mount this?

    • @Trailvagabonds
      @Trailvagabonds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends. I normally hook the front side up by stepping up in the passenger door. Then set our ladder up on the rear of the van for the 2nd one. I talk in the video about the ability to connect it from the ground. The mounts i added don't allow me to utilize that feature due to the orientation but you could definitely set it up that way

    How’s the moonshade with strong winds? Can it hold up?

    • @Trailvagabonds
      @Trailvagabonds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the permenant mounts and the guy lines staked in it is very solid and has held up to wind nicely. If I know heavy wind is in the forecast however, I will take it down. Last summer we had unexpected winds come in while at the beach (before our permenant mounts) and the magnets pulled on top of the van. I will say any awning states they should be taken down for wind and storms (some of those nice ones with electric even auto shut at the slightest breeze). Hope that's helpful. Let me know if you have other questions🙌🏻
