Our Pano Course: www.fototripper.com/store/pan...
This landscape photography adventure begins with foggy sea stacks and ends with atmospheric Newfoundland cityscapes. To say I'm out of my comfort zone is an understatement.
Brent makes a surprise appearance near St Johns, Newfoundland, and expects me to embark on a photography trip to record that Pano course I totally didn't forget about. He's an eager beaver.
Our adventures take us far and wide with visits to Bay Roberts, Chance Cove, Cavendish, Quidi Vidi, Stiles Cove and The Battery in St Johns. Brent enjoys a good stuffing while I down some brick-shaped fish and chips.
Brent struggles with his antique Fujifilm camera and heavy tripod while I shoot super sharp images handheld. Amanada declares that the camper is now for sale due to Brents snooping.
I almost forgot about Brents old panoramic viewfinder but I have to admit it's pretty cool. He then proceeds to creeper peep around the quaint village of Quidi Vidi but I'm just not seeing the potential.
After a day of struggling, I let him talk me into visiting The Battery in St Johns to do some blue-hour cityscape photography, and I'm pleasantly surprised. Not only do I capture some fascinating maritime scenes, but I also manage to bag a portrait shot of Brent that's guaranteed to earn me at least $20 as his new profile pic.
Fabian makes another appearance after a two-year absence due to Brent's confidence issues. He seems to believe that this mulleted alter-ego empowers him to deliver a better performance. I shake my head.
Is this really the creamiest bokeh I've ever seen, and how does my long exposure of a big boat turn out? What do cod tongues taste like and what's the coolest looking mailbox you've ever seen?
There's really only one way to find out.

A new superhero is born "The Photographer" who races to save his woman, he can leap a tall beer can in a single bound, faster than a sleeping sloth. The man of boka. I know I spelled it in correctly.
You did and only a crushed beer can.
Great to see Brent doing his business in one of your videos again Gavin.
Now we just need the true master of comedic timing and your one and only vlogging sidekick of all time fame...young Mr Gibbs back in a number of your new videos.
Keep safe all of you.
Nice to see Brent again, and interesting to see you take a break from landscapes. Fantastic as always and entertaining.
Good chemistry again between you and Brent!
Just in time. Sauna, one beer and a new episode to watch
Another episode of my favourite Sunday comedy show. Brilliant.
Brent + Gavin + Amanda = maximum outtakes guaranteed 🙂
Good to see Brent back 😊
Fabian…😂😂 empowered too funny . Great clip as always 😂❤
Brent is back! Yes!!
Finally that bloody pano course is underway! Looking forward to it!
The great thing about bad weather is that it tends to keep people away and out of your landscape shots
Ahh, springtime in Newfoundland--gray and a warm 46 F....
Brilliant show and awesome images from the pier !! again congratulations to Brent and Karen !!!
That shot of Brent was really great! 📸😎
Great content, learning and humour, thank you all.
So much texture on that jetty, the pods and netting, beautiful
While Brent was shooting the same pano for the 90th time cracked me up
Excellent! and very entertaining too!!!
Brent is a guarantee of great fun. And the photos turned out to be very good!👍
Great to see Brent again, missed the chemistry between you both.
Great video, Gavin. I forgot how much I loved St John’s and the surrounding area. Brought back wonderful memories.
As always… another entertaining and informative video.
And the REAL shenanigans (hummer) returns… Where the hell has BRENT been, oh, that’s right you moved away. THANK YOU! It felt good to laugh again at the good stuff!!! You look like you really enjoyed the shoot Gavin. The images are stupendous sir Cheers 🍻 I have been using Topaz for a while to repair old images my father took back in the early 1950s through the late 1960s… and have been blown away by the quality improvements ever since. Great software, you can’t go wrong. The new update is even better.
Humidity was 100%, no shortage of fog. Should have booked a week later. This week is perfect also. Great videos
Great to see Brent again 👍
I always learn with a smile on. Thanks Amanda... oh and U2 Gavin.
When you took that first pano shot in front of Brent i laughed my ass almost off. Impeccable timing.
Yup, we even have a town called 3 Sisters in South Africa!
Brilliant
Thanks for your Videos Gavin :)
Brilliant video and I do love the laughter. Loved the harbour cityscape. I can see that on a wall.
Are you sure that was a fox? I didn't see Amanda and Brent at that moment, and, well, you know, my mind started to wander 😂
Beautiful cityscapes at the Battery !
Great episode. The chemistry with Brent is awesome and the outtakes even better. The photo of the battery is superb as are the other ones you took from the Pier.
Glad you are enjoying our little piece of heaven. There are so many places here in Newfoundland that only locals know. We (my wife and I) are going to be offering multiday photography tours in Central Newfoundland starting next year!
I couldn't wait to sit down and watch this tonight. Loved everything about the video. And you just sold me on the Topaz. I've been back and forth on getting it.
Love that shot of Brent! And I finally learned something useful! From this moment on, I shall no longer share my heated underwear.
depends who you're sharing it with ;)
@@fototripper And how they’re heated…
25:42 got me, it was Michael Fox Jackson. It sure is scary to hear when in the dark hahahaha
Interesting video and great shots. Those where amazing places. It was great to see Brent again and must have been a blast!
I squealed when I saw Brent appear! So good to see you guys together again!
Oohh.
Wonderful video. The first image turned out really lovely. The view is like west cork but just built on a cliff side!
I have played around with topaz a little bit and do like the results for sure! 👍
Cheers!
Great to see the creeper peeper back in the mix ! That bokeh was delicious
Top drawer, Folks!!!
Enjoyed your video, thanks for posting 👍
Brent 😍😍🔥
another entertaining video Gavin, some great banter as usual, looked like hard work to try and get some images, but paid off in the end, love the blue hour harbour images brilliant, I didn't,t realise Amanda sounds like a fox when she screams, keep up the great work.
Thanks Gavin, received my book. I may need to look at the photos while enjoying a TOBLERONE chocolate.
What a great episode Gavin. Just be sure to check around constantly for the creepy peeper named fibia. 😂
This is my first comment on your channel. I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now. Well here is the comment 😅
I really like your photo in the Battery area. The fog does add character and tells a story with moody feel to it.
pretty funny - good pics
I absolutely loved this video, your photos were amazing I really loved them.
I always look forward to seeing your videos, I think your sense of humour is so much like mine, as I also come from Yorkshire you make me laugh it is brilliant.
See you next time Gavin, stay happy and smiling 😊😊
Always thrilled to get an email that you uploaded a video. Now I got my wife to watch, she loves your videos also.
If your coming to NEWFOUNDLAND and your looking for great weather you want to come the last 2 weeks of july and forst 2 of August. Summer takes along time to get here due to the ocean but the winter takes along time to get here to. It only gets below -10c in st.johns for about 2 weeks in February other then that its -5c - -9c. Also in the warmer weather, mid june on, the fog "burns" off after the first couple morning hours
Well that was your best video for a while. Very interesting locations, content and information. Brent, sorry "Fabio", just added the icing to the cake. Two thirds of the dream team back together. Now you need to convince Uncle Grumpy to stop shooting the same three trees every week and also head east 🤫Love it.
Enjoyed this one and it was great to see Brent again. It’s good to feel empowered Brent 😂, The quality of those night shots were outstanding 👌
More!
Another great vid - love the cityscape. Sounds like one heck of a fox..............:):)
Good to see Brent again, missed him. BTW, love the music you used at 2:00.
Brent! What a fun video, missed the banter between you two.
Great video
Love this stuff. Is 115 F, heat index today and am watching Gavin wearing his jacket and woolie hat... Wish I were there..
Very enjoyable video 🙂
So St.John's is just the same as Norway, interesting. Edit: Minus the sketchiness 😂Your humor is also always so refreshing, what a treat :)
Great video Gavin, Topaz is great, I love it, also loved the houses, thanx again. Colin Devon uk...
Found a package on my front porch this morning. I bet there is a story here somewhere..... Great work
Please tell Amanda thank you for the Unicorn !!!
+1 Hasselblad video
Brent hasn't aged a day in his life, he seems to have been just born like that! As for you Gavin, you dont look a day over 49
28:52 One thing I’ll never miss about Canada is Tim Hortons coffee. By the way, I really liked the “non-landscape” pics in this episode.
You are definitely in the minority not liking Tim Hortons coffee.
Great tutorial! Great shots! You've got a nice bit of portrait photographer potential! 👍😄
..got to spend 6 weeks last summer, all over Newfoundland. Quite amazing! I loved all the fishing villages, harbors, boats, gear, & ...🌧 Like another entire country, separate from Canada!
Looking forward to your next video!
Great mix of humor!
😅
Great to see Brent back on the scene! Great laughs - like the old days.... where is Grumpton, cameo appearance soon? Cheers Gav!
Who?
Good video! I travelled to Newfoundland for a photography vacation back in 2016...I was really impressed!
What lenses would you recommend if one was going on a Newfoundland photo vacation?
@@SteveKleinheiderThank you.
We received Stories Within Stories by Gavin Hardcastle a couple of days ago. We just quickly flipped through it and then I started reading it that night. Another fantastic book, and I'm only about 1/4 way through! Obviously, already the 2nd best book ever written! We did have a small sh*t fit when we saw that our book did indeed NOT have Amanda's signature in it. But quickly felt better when Amanda's signature Unicorn was carefully tucked inside. Perfect for a little book mark too 🦄 Another very well written book. Your personality shines in this too Gavin... I can hear you all over the pages.👌Pure talent along with an awesome sense of humor.😂 We did peak at the last page where we saw what was likely the very best image in the whole book. Page 120. That image by the Grumpton himself. Miss you guys running around together. We both wish you and Amanda the very best. Take care of each other 🤝 Us out in the sticks~ ~ain't it nice? 👌
Thanks for the kind words Mike and I'm glad you enjoyed the book.
Hi Brent! The images from the dock are terrific. Nice portrait for "not a portrait photographer".
We have the Three Sisters Pub in Amsterdam but I haven’t discovered the sisters yet. 😊
An interesting video. However, there were some amazing compositions right beside you with the blue fishing boat and the harbour as you were walking to the pier.
The Battery would have been a great subject for one of those day/ night blend shots, I reckon.
a timelapse? yeah maybe but there was too much traffic and changing light.
@@fototripper Sorry, didn’t explain myself, more this sort of thing… th-cam.com/video/Abg9CRDZuTQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dCUtXUJEAn3TfE1N
Nice one Gav 👍
Dude (a.k.a. Gavin), you really should consider pursuing more of these cityscape night shots. They looked awesome! 🙂
Also there is a 3 sister group of house close to signal hill. Cape spear is a great spot aswell, the eastern tip of north America
A refreshing take, you and Brent make a good team and by the way Mandy was very quiet and mostly out of shot hope she's ok.
Maybe Battery Parks are the ones to avoid at night & they're named as such for your safety 😁
Brent wins the Brendon VanSon look-alike contest ....
Totally awesome photo of Brent (I think that is his name). Definitely worth the $20.
The twisted Sisters (3) motorcycle roads in Texas :)
Thanks for doing low light panos. Appreciate it much!
What was Amanda doing to that poor fox?
@dw.in.michigan No, it was Amanda when she realised Gavin had "borrowed" her Hasselblad! 📷
BREEEEEEENT))))))))) i miss u
within the the first 10 secs gavin finds a sea stack that should be x rated
So happy to see Brent again, great chemistry..maybe try do get Mr. Gibbs there as well....will definitely buy the course..greetings from Germany
Mount Baker.... and the three sisters.. son of a!...
You're a bloody hero... save the wife :) it was only a fox...
Im sure your wife appreciates you running back to rescue her all the same. Probably not too impressed being compared to a screaming fox though 😂😂😂
The "No-Hasselblad"
Your Hassie bhoke looks like more than a touch of cat's eyes
1,498th like. sorry to let everybody down today by missing that first like. Was taking photos of my niece barrel racing her horse. so i at least have a good excuse. ill get my glory back next episode. great video as always Gabin. good to see Brent again, been way too long!
There are lots of cannons at the top of Signal Hill which were strategically placed to defend the harbour. The light that you could see over the top of that hill was probably coming from Quidi Vidi which is in that direction. I think that I was there at the same time as you as it was warm in the west but on the day that I left St. John's it was 1 degree. Had the same problem as you taking photos of that incredible coastline in less than ideal light. Yes I was dressed for the cold but even then it wasn't enough.
It's never enough in NL.
I was just up your way, on a cruise ship. Greenland, Newfound and Nova Scotia. So much fog and icebergs. Love to explore up that way but at 68 it’s probably not going to happen.
Was Cleatus poorly 🥳🥰
Topaz AI is truly amazing. As good as Adobe Denoise is, Topaz blows it away. I use it as a last, finishing step (mainly for birds). And yes, that scream is what the fox says.
