Even today, there is a controversy on the Isle of Skye over whether a supermarket there should open on Sunday. People there have even demonstrated against it.
Are you meaning Tesco's, Stornoway, on our island of Lewis and Harris (Leòdhas agus na h-Hearadh) that opened last Sunday against the wishes of us indigenous, Gaelic people. We are Free Church of Scotland and our Gaelic Bible was taken directly from the Greek. We have no crosses, crooks, fancy dress, musical instruments in services, just a minister preaching the gospel in his collar and Gaelic, or English Psalm singing. We believe in God's word, law and I shouldn't even be watching this and commenting , today. We believe that when Joshua walked into Israel , the Jew was walking into the little land promised him by the one who created it, and everything. Gun robh Dia Leibh uile.
Well, some Scottish Presbyterians abandoned the gospel of grace for Unitarianism during the 18th Century. So much so that the Rev. Lachlan Mackenzie once commenced a sermon with these words: 'If people go to perdition in these days, it is not for want of ministers. The clergy are likely to become soon as plentiful as the locusts in Egypt, and which of them is the greater plague of the two, time and the experience of the Church will discover.'
My BA dissertation was on Scottish Presbyterian Horatius Bonar and his eschatology and love for the Jewish people. Great theology regarding ethnic Israel and their future (Romans 11)
I grew up in the Messianic movement (with both Jewish and Christian family), when I started learning about Reformed theology I was concerned about antisemitism (I think everyone is aware of Luther's statements) but a very wise missionary friend told me about "Rabbi" Jonathan Duncan (a Scottish Presbyterian missionary in Budapest and later a professor) and learning about the Scottish Presbyterian concern for Jewish Evangelization opened me up to Reformed theology because it showed me there is more to it... just wanted to share... thank you for your channel, I follow along regularly.
The Rev. John 'Rabbi' Duncan was the Church of Scotland's missionary to the Jews of Hungary in 1841-43. This mission was instrumental in the conversion of Alfred Edersheim, author of the big book, Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah.
Thanks for the book recommendation. I’m a Scot, and recently decided to make a concerted effort to learn about our Christian history - it is no longer taught in schools. Fortunately, having Banner of Truth 10 miles down the road from me, has given me lots of options. I’ll be sure to pick this one up too.
Thank you pastor Everhard. I'm a missionary to the Jewish community and am familiar with this evangelistic effort. I believe we are still, today, seeing the blessings from the work done many years ago. I wonder if the Mitch that asked you to review this book is my boss Dr. Glaser? Bless you and thank you for all the work you do.
It might have been a more broadly evangelical thing. Lord Ashley Cooper (Later 7th Earl of Shaftesbury) was a promoter of the Bishopric in Jerusalem (1841). This was done in conjunction with the Evangelical Church in Prussia, and Michael Alexander, a converted Rabbi, was appointed.
I'd love to hear you do a deep dive on the similarities/differences between the Scottish national covenant w/God and Christian Nationalism in the USA today. Are they organically related in the history of theological ideas or are they completely different?
Aryanism is a common thread from zealot Christians. It has nothing to do with the personal relationship man has with God The Aryan zealot does not follow 10 commandments and cannot teach grace to the hebrew
I did NOT know about that, but given that my Jewish dad was converted by PCA Presbyterians, this is very based. I'll send this video to him
Great to hear, thanks RZ.
One of the apologists involved in my conversion was a Jewish convert from this period into Scottish Presbyterianism named Adolph Saphir
This is way more based and more biblical than dispensational Zionism

Is there ANYTHING that the Scottish Presbyterians got wrong?
Love them!
Thanks Matthew for the video.
Welcome, and I am still looking, but I'll let you know if I find anything! Lol.

They got the meaning of ”all Israel shall be saved” wrong. 😊
@@MatthewEverhard They gave us Sinclair Ferguson! Yet another W for the Scots, haha!
As a member of the RPCNA, I’m very appreciative of this .
Thank you so much! I have other videos on the Covenanters as well #forChristscrownandcovenant

As a Scotsman and believer I find this helpful Matthew - if only our modern generation would be so Bible as their Presbyterian ancestors 🙏

Brother Matt, you HAVE to read Robert Murray M’Cheyne’s biography.
Thanks for the book recommendation.

Thanks for sharing. Yet another book to my ever-expanding TBR.
Thanks a much needed reminder for us on the Reformed divide

Just bought your book, “Worshiptainment: The Modern Church’s Golden Calf” on Audible. Looking forward to it!
Wow! You might be the first one! It literally just came out today!!!

Were the Covenantors Premil or Postmil? Were they trying to "heed" the Kingdom?
😂 Mitch really got on you for this one. He got me too 😅
You know Mitch? You will have to tell me your identity. Lol.
Very interesting

The killing years are a blot on Scottish history but sadly the Covenanters were not the good guys in the Story.
You are either ignorant or confused. The Covenanters were persecuted by the English and were in fact severely abused. Get your facts correct! 4:58
