  • Learn the things not to say to Romanian women in Amsterdam. A complaint that the Shallow Man often hears from Expat Romanian women in Amsterdam, is about the “jokes” told to them by Dutch men. These ‘jokes’ can often be downright offensive. So in order to help both Romanian women and Dutch men, here are things that you should NEVER say to Romanian women in Amsterdam. Especially if you're hoping to date them.

    I always loved the Romanian language. I was telling to my brother that Romanian was closer to Italian than Russian. He said : No way, Romania is a poor country it can't be in the same family as Italy or France. I need to apologize to all the Romanian people for the stupidity of my brother. But, hey at least I love you and I can say : multumesc

      +Cosmo Aero V2 . Matter of fact Cosmo, Romanian and Italian languages, are the children of the same dead language: Latin. While Russian has no connection whatsoever to any latin languages. It is true, Romania is a poor country, but not by choice, but by location: too close to the Russian and Ottoman empires.

      +GeorgeNyb Romania is a very rich country with the biggest gold mine in europe. But we can't extract it, because of future polution that will come after. And even without the gold we would be at least normal financial, but our politician are to corruptued.

    • @GeorgeNyb
      @GeorgeNyb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      +Cosmo Aero V2 The fact that Romanian language has adopted words from other languages, does not change it's structure which is related more to latin than anything else. Spanish has some Arabic in it since the Maori occupation, but it is still latin. English has some latin in it but it is still West-Germanic. Moreover, the fact that Romanian transplants have settled in droves in Italy and Spain, since they found the languages so easy to learn, since they are related, gives one the idea of relations via languages. While Romanian language survived for over 2000 years, surrounded by slavic languages, and it maintains it's basic structure, gives you the clear picture of the almost no connection to the slavic languages around it.
      Romanians and Russians are no brothers.

    "It's all Eastern Europe. Nobody cares." That's how I feel most of the time. Bulgarian here living in The Netherlands for many years now.... Sadly I've had experiences with guys exactly like this one and they make me sooo mad! I'd love to give a good slap in the face to one of them with some actual geography and history facts. These people know nothing east from Germany. :(
    "Romanian sounds like Russian" my ass. The biggest irony is Romanian is actually a Latin language and is closer to Italian than anything else.
    Me being from Bulgaria people confuse it with Hungary all the time and also assume the languages are similar. Nobody knows that Hungarian is actually a member of the smallest European language family, that is not connected to either Germanic, Latin nor Slavic, but instead is very close to Estonian and Finnish.
    Some people seriously.... I mean if you don't know something don't make an ass of yourself by presuming you know. The arrogance level is too high!

    Brilliant, sad but true. I came in1993 from the UK for a few days, but am still here. The greatness of Romania, its wild Carpathian mountains, ancient forests, folklore art and music, nature, and much and more. Voted the 3rd friendliest people and 3rd least racist in Europe. When I first arrived I thought I knew everything, could teach these good people a thing or two to help. However, away from supermarkets and it's throw away mentality, I was soon in trouble, but soon learned that Romanians can fix anything, including saving me. Romania, has the best hospitality in the world. A most beautiful country. I am staying.

      On a more serious note tho, I hope we'll get along someday even on the internet. I have quite a few Hungarian friends since I live in Transylvania, and they are just like us Romanians. Even the people in Budapest were alright when I visited, so I suspect that this conflict is the strongest in the internet comment sections and on TV around the time of the elections.

    I'm working in the courts of my country, and while we do get a lot of romanians brought in from the police, I happen to have a romanian girlfriend, which is why I know very well, that romanians aren't really much more criminal than other EU citizens. Also, I love romanian cuisine, at least the lovely food my girlfriend makes. Lastly, there is actually a pretty strong network of romanians in Denmark who seems very helpful towards each other.
    Basically, it all boils down to lack of knowledge. I'm sure I lack knowledge of certain countries too, but ultimately it doesn't necessarily mean I try to be disrespectful. Remember that. Sometimes people don't know better. Enlighten them and they just might be a friend in the making.

Hungarians are accustomed to that mistake, just like Romanians in Bucurest, which is their capital, and they are proud of it. I hope there will be a time when this will be the biggest problem between the two countries.

    Apparently one of my great grandmothers was Romanian, she was essentially abducted by her husband and taken to Australia in the late 19th century. She was many decade younger than her husband and he died leaving her alone with three young children, little english language and shunned by the community, all before she was 20 years of age. Early 20th century she emigrated to New Zealand and raised her children alone. She died when I was 15, I was very fond of her.
    As a young man I wanted to go to Romania to investigate her heritage but under the communist rule that was impossible.

    As an American, the language DOES sound at first hearing like Russian. It took awhile of listening to it to realize what people mean when they say it sounds more Italian. I think there are certain sounds that just stand out as uniquely Slavic and people get stuck on those sounds and drown out everything else. On CAREFUL listening it's not much like Russian, but it does certainly have influence from all of it's Slavic neighbors.

    I hate the fact that the others turned us into the ruler who defended us, held with the people and did justice, in "Dracula". In fact, he was a good and faithful man, very faithful (he was orthodox like most Romanians). But, what I want to emphasize is not to believe that the legend of Dracula is true! I repeat, he was a wonderful, good, faithful leader and he was with the people, not with the enemy!

    I am Romanian and I am a teacher of Romanian for expats, I can only say that none of the expats ever gave me a weird eye as I might steal something, so I guess this happens mostly only to htose living here. I even had students who were not careful at all with their bags in town and sometimes I did tell them "please, be more careful, you never know" and many of them told me that Bucharest was safer than their towns.

      +MMiraJeS Yes .. you know what, the biggest irony is that most of the Balkan capitals and towns are safer, greener and less polluted than the West ones - such as Sofia, Bucharest, Belgrade, but they still believe the inept propaganda spilled out of their corrupted tabloids and politicians. Basically, it all boils down to the lack of knowledge.

There was an american guest teacher in my native town in Bulgaria. Initially before coming in here she thought that we in Eastern Europe do not have high buildings, roads, normal schools, etc. I can imagine the propaganda their heads are being filled with, poor uneducated westerners :( .That tbh sounds ridiculous especially nowadays when you can check everything in internet in couple of minutes. They don't even know the difference between native romanians and bulgarians and gypsies minorities. They don't even care to check that out. We do know the difference between for example of the native brit and non-ethnic brit. And they say that we are shallow-minded? Something that makes me lol often is how the west is filled with people from India, Pakistan, Africa and the Middle East but they're ok with them and their troubles, but when it comes to bulgarians and romanians they raise the alarm of the prejudicism immediately. Hypocrites.

      _"immigrants will always be treated like ''ausländer'' no matter what"_
      Well I've been an immigrant my whole adult life but as a Frenchman living elsewhere in Europe, I cannot say that it has been a struggle. In fact, life has been fairly easy, even abroad, mostly thanks to the EU.
      _"I'd rather live a harsh life in my country than be treated as second hand citizen in another country."_
      Well, I wouldn't want to live a second in Aleppo. No matter how hard it is to be a refugee, that's a far better life than in most places in rebel controlled Syria.
      When I was living in Romania, I went to Ukraine and got to meet people on the Maidan and then people displaced by war. Most of them just couldn't see things coming. There was very little warning that, from one day to the next, they had to leave their city to live in western Ukraine or in Poland.
      _"wtf does that even mean man, women are not sexual objects,we have souls too,you know"_

      Most foreigners don't know the difference between Roman, Romanian and Rrom.:))Talking about ignorance:))
      We are often confronted with stereotypes,
      when your country of birth has a reputation for being the homeland for gypsies, poor and beggars, than life abroad isn't sugar spice and everything nice anymore, in fact it's rather humiliating to be percieved this way.:))))
      Thanks for sharing your opinion on the war refugees,I agree with it.
      At times offensive jokes are hard to swallow. It's not always a good idea to crack jokes on things that are core to ones identity, people tend to feel insecure and get offended easily. Stick to the self deprecating, poking fun and ego booster ones, they are harmless, funnier and more positive, when one cracks them the whole room laughts and they are at no one's expense, no one feels hurt or alienated by them.

    Hey Holland, you re so proud about to be a Dutch, but did you know the ethymologic origin of Dutch ? I will tell you... first look to a old map, at least 500years, you will discover that a part of holland and all danemark was called DACIA, strangely that s the original name of Romania since -1500bc to 1850ac. So yes it s a lacune in history in the favor of the occident (like 25% of all the history). DACIA - DACHIA who spok DATCH - DUTCH. So I know that you are directly opposed to our country by racism and you are affraid about our huge ship port Constanta but seriously it s enough

      +Zyraxes Dac, Dutch is a historically wrong term used to describe people of the Netherlands, it stems from a confusion that the Germans call themselves Deutsch, and the English initially mistaken Dutch people for Germans and the term stuck.
      Similar to how we Romanians call Hungarians even though they are descendents of Magyars not Huns, 2 different people; or how we call Wales = Tara Galilor (Land of the Gauls) even thought Gauls are the French.

    Unul dragoste România! on t'aime la Roumanie!
    I have really thought about all of this in the video allot in that last year or so.. Here in the west (North America) and probably many countries around the world, when we are not thinking we think of Romania (&Romanians) as some type of Eastern Euro/Russians, even if we know they are not. It wasn't till I was researching my own ethnic language (French) when I stumbled accross the Romanian language(Google def>): as.."closest language to Latin". Besides that I noticed that even thou it sounded a little like Italian,..Just like Italian & Spanish I understood many of their words instantly because of my French. Many were identical. More than that..., when watching their MUSIC, food, culture etc. I could just tell in their eyes (Etc.) that all this time I/WE had been SOO..overlooking these beautiful people that I/WE have sooo.. much in common with.. They have such beauty and passion towards life. I seriously want to "re-brand" their entire image.
    More accurately, change how the rest of the world sees them. Unul dragoste România! on t'aime la Roumanie!

    Hope to visit one day!

      +Europe I love Europe Nice bigoted comments from you. There are plenty of well educated Romanian women. What happened, did a Romanian lady break your heart? They're very choosy and wouldn't want to date an ignorant bigot. Get over it.

    • @Amsterdamshallowman
      @Amsterdamshallowman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Europe I love Europe So you've been busy sampling the delights of prostitutes all over europe. Lovely! So the fact that there are Romanian prostitutes means that all Romanians are the same? Strange logic. If you bother to do some research you'll find women of just about all nationalities working in the oldest profession. You seem to have an issue with Romanian women. Did a beautiful Romanian lady turn you down?

    • @Amsterdamshallowman
      @Amsterdamshallowman  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Europe I love Europe So ALL Romanian women don't care about their country, is that right? So you feel that as a Romanian you can speak for ALL Romanian women do you? Interesting. No need to resort to bad language.

    believe it or not romanian language is the closest to latin of all romance languages, 77% comes straight out of latin... obvious... latin comes from romanian, dacian an ancient latin that started here in romania

    • @67claudius
      @67claudius 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +PentruTarăMeaMare Are you kidding? Latin was the language spoken by the Latins, Italic population, from which descend the Romans. They settled, from the second millennium BC, along the Tyrrhenian coast of the Italian peninsula, in the region that, from them, was called Latium. The Italian language is directly descended from the Vulgar Latin, because here in Italy was born the Roman civilization.

    • @67claudius
      @67claudius 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      rakuserghei A phrase that means nothing. Latin had nothing to do with the language spoken by the Dacians.

    • @pentrutarameamare8396
      @pentrutarameamare8396 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      67claudius how can romans in just 150 years just a tiny part 1/6 of Dacian territory make all Dacians forget their language and culture.. in those years there remained only a few 1000 soldiers in Dacia and somehow romanians are born ?? half Roman half Dacian ?? Ok i would be very proud to be Roman and Dacian but it doesnt make sense, so Romans all made kids with Dacian women ?? sorry but that is a big ass lie couse it is just impossible... even Hungarians hath bigger parts of romania for 1000 years.. did these romanians became Hungarian ? no, they even protected their culture even more.. or why do the spanish and french dont say they are Romans? couse its same story.. only they were 100 % occupied for even longer period....

    • @67claudius
      @67claudius 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      PentruTarăMeaMare Is a well known fact that after the conquest of Dacia, thousands of settlers from the Italian peninsula populated the Roman province of Dacia, then after the retreat of Rome, they remained isolated and this explains why the Romanian language in some aspects has maintained a purity that no European Romance language has maintained. The Spaniards and French don't say they are Roman, but they know that their culture and language owes much to Roman civilization.

    I am not from Europe but i wouldn't say what this guy said to these girls to anybody!! wtf hahaha pointing out that they are prostitutes just because of what they are wearing!! or because they are Romanian....also mistaken in the language i don't find that a problem! anyone could guess wrong if they hear something they are not familiar with!! so i don't get why did you relate it to only Romanian Women!? Also what i think that the video should be called Definition of Propaganda how a group of people get a bad reputation because of ones or small percentage action!

    • @Amsterdamshallowman

    @2:20 lol. he's just talking without filtering his comments. but, that does not mean they reject him. it all starts with face value. if he has alot of money, high status, is not overly offensive. they'll give him several tries. if he's none of the above, he just needs to be himself. they may forgive him and work with him anyway or they'll ignore him. just let her do most of the talking and you will not come off as a jerk. you win some. you lose some. but in the end, you will get some.
