- Well what a rare selection of cars I'm going to review today, the 1984 Nissan Silvia Turbo, 1985 Nissan Cherry Turbo and the 1992 Fiat Uno Turbo. When did you last see one of these, let alone all three together.

Had some fun with Cherry Turbos in the 90s.
tell us more... :+)
Great to see someone else giving these cars some attention. I worked my apprenticeship, (mechanic), in a car hire company, in the mid to late 80’s, we had a whole bunch of Nissans on the fleet, including a couple of Cherry turbo’s, Silvia turbo’s and Bluebird ZX turbo’s. They were fantastic cars and always great fun to drive. Shame they were not as popular or well known as the alternatives at the time but, that, to me makes them much more desirable. Always wanted a Silvia turbo, very rarely seen any for sale, these 2 Nissans must have been a lot of work to find in this condition.
wow - couldn't imagine top of range ones like that in a hire co, must have been a hoot back then,
how was the cherry to drive ?
@RetroRatchet The Cherry turbo was, as you would expect, a pocket rocket, much quicker than the standard 1.3 version. It handled really well too, it was great fun.
The fleet was mainly boring stuff like Montegos, Sierras, standard Nissan models of Cherry, Stanza, Bluebird etc. these few sportier ones were a little more pricey to rent but, they were REALLY popular.
Love anything 80-90s that has a turbo but my pick out the bunch would be the cherry turbo
spot on!
Nissan Silvia......one of my first true loves. I can t explain it, i just love the Silvia.
I can appreciate that mate! for me Honda prelude vtec 4th gen....
I had Cherry 1.3GS. They were a great wee car. I would have loved a Cherry turbo. I knew someone who fitted a Silvia engine in one.
I never had any trouble with my Cherry.
I had a C reg Silvia 2l dohc 16 valve, it was very rare even then. Loved that car..
Hindsight is all a good thing. The values of these three Italian classics will be well up there.
I owned an E30 M3 Evo ( 249/501) Bought it from Gordon Spence in Dundee. My daughter was born, so sold it and bought an E30 325i Touring. Sold the M3 for £5000. Yes £5000. They are North of 70k now??? Story of my life with BMW's.....don't mention my E39 M5..... 😢
I can’t wait to see a video on that Bluebird ZX.
couple of weeks mate - just in the queue right now,
Fantastic video, thank you.
cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it
loved the turbo's of the 80's, it was another Nissan i liked, the bluebird being a favourite of mine, the wee cherry turbo is nice although not sure about the blue interior on the red car, great video.
UNO Turbo please looked so much better (interior aside except for lovely steering wheel) for its time.
Yes fairly complex engine at the time
2 door 309 gtis had similar rear window systems to the cherry. Some seriously rare metal here. The collector likes red, and i see a bluebird turbo in the back.
really. never knew that, wonder who thought of it 1st?
bluebird video done, be out in a few weeks!
Had an S12 Silvia. Loved it. Mods included: Exhaust, hybrid turbo, Maestro intercooler, induction kit, 1.2 bar boost, Rover 220 turbo spoiler, colour coded trim, lowered slightly. 210bhp for stints, but would eat pistons if run at high boost for too long. Sadly rotted around the hatch hinges, then I welded these up and sold it for a 220 GSi turbo. Still miss the Silvia, too much to buy one now 😢
bet that shifted - !
I had the MK2 Uno Turbo in red just like yours. Great car. I remember hitting 135 before the front-end was getting ready to lift off... From memory, it did have the black roof spoiler fitted. Loved that car :) Lovely Nissan's too.
that's the thing with this era, just not that stable at higher speeds. pretty entertaining though id imagine!
Older brother had a cherry coupe , it had tiny opera like windows in the back that wound down , was burgundy with a sky blue interior
Cherry turbo was a little pocket rocket
My dad owned one we towed a speedboat all the way to south of france in the Early 90s
Silvia was a beast of a car can remember swapping a BMW M3 E30 for a Golf GTI and a Silvia turbo, the Silvia was definitely the most fun to drive out the two especially in the wet..
I owned a Silvia turbo yrs ago it was a 1987 on a D reg, good going thing at the time, it ate turbo's though, apparently a blocked oil pipe to the turbo which after 2 failed turbos i discovered, pig of a job to take the turbo out too. Lovely cars though.
I had a mk1 Uno Turbo 60S from new back in the day, even with a 60bhp 1100cc engine it was nippy, great handling so great fun to drive. Always fancied a turbo but insurance costs were high and I was buying my first house.
yeah I remember driving a 1.1 way back was nice and nippy and responsive.
Lovely mk2 uno turbo ie. Wanted one 25 years ago..😍
super rare now from what I can gather
Nissan Cherry is my dream car. Has a Micra K10 but was too small. Cherry is a bigger Micra with more function. Would buy if a 5speed 3door ever shows up.
I had a Nissan Sylvia,pained it yellow.....very fast car 👍
I'll take the Cherry. Why can't they make icons like this anymore? Stunning 😊
yeah that's my choice, reminds me so much of my 18 turbo in many ways. each of those cars just shows you the character these kind of cars had back then,
My father has a Silva turbo. I borrowed it to see a Swedish girl. Drove Torquay to to Stockholm and back in February 1991. I left Stockholm 2am to get back to Gothenburgh and drove 130mph for a while until it started to over heat but slowing down reduce engine temperature. Got to my ferry late because I got lost in city and luckily I was last car getting on ferry to Harwich.
surprised it coped with that speed!
pinkze he say " yeah Isuzu Piaza, used to love those, I had dealer brochure as a kid !"
I had two s12s in my time. A black one and a gunmetal one. Loved them. That looks like a scorpion system on it and it has a bung in place of the pressure relief valve on the inlet manifold , so probably has a restrictor bead in the wastegate hose to up the boost to about 10psi so I'd guess this is running about 170ish. That Cherry is lush too .
interesting, will be quick with 170 hp I would imagine, black would be a great colour for one as well!
My dad had a c-plate S12 Silvia Turbo in white back in the day, I thought it went like a spaceship…..
Fun Fact: Max Power’s quote on the CherryTurbo back in the day: “Japanese Dog Poo”
Cool video 👍
That cherry turbo is so so cool 😎 and nice take me back to the 90ts
My mum had a champagne silver Sylvia. C747JNK was the reg. I know it's gone because we scrapped it. Was also an Automatic. Grey cloth interior and electric windows. Had a sunroof on ours
Silvia, wow, what a beautiful thing.
can't wait to get out in it
A teacher at my school had one of these in this colour back in 1990, not sure what year the car was exactly, guessing mid 80s. He used to park it next to another teacher who was a big BMW man, he had a 5 series also in red, a bit newer than the Silvia but I can't remember what engine or spec it had, maybe 525i. They were def having a 'cool' contest. 😂
haha defo,
I did soooooo much street drifting in my Silvia, sometimes just by accident
cool, yeah I did suspect they would drift well
Renault fuego turbos are extremely rare. The cherry I've never seen on the road in recent years
I had one of the last ones, it red and black paint work red turbo across the bottom and a black and blue interior with turbo embroidery. Traided it in for a brand new Bluebird ZX Ex
cool ,was that a turbo or 2.0 na?
@@RetroRatchet Bluebird and cherry where both turbos, both great cars cherry though had to much power and the brakes weren't to clever especially with drums on back and tourqe steer was awful.
Ah the memories, my dad had a bright yellow cherry (non turbo)
I remember them from when I was a child, shame they are all but extinct
I can see a red Bluebird in the background
yes mate - video on route for this one too!
cool video
cheers mate
@@RetroRatchet really good video watched it all love how you showed the interior wnd engined thingsnonly an ownser would see.please review a daihatsu charade GTti
I remember the hot fiat abarth strada (Ritmo) doing well in magazine tests, think it was called something like the TC ?
yeah 130 tc, if you check out my recent retroshite meet video, there is one in that
If that Cherry didn’t have blue door cards I would’ve thought the seats were just aftermarket covers…….
yeah, I think cos they were like new as well gave that impression. looked even better in the flesh!
I had a m1 uno turbo, so much better in every way!
yeah, id read as much online, be interesting doing a back to back one day
Cherry Shared a body shell with Alfa Romeo ARNA. Hence AR NA initials of both companies.
ah really, bet that arna is a rare beast then
@@RetroRatchet it had a few different engines ARNA Ti was the sporty one. Think it was a 1.3 cc. Tbh rusty buckets
I was hoping for a Mazda 323 turbo.
join the club!
i have an '84 CT project which i will finish... one day....
Rember the Suzuki swift gti, polo g40, charade gt-ti all great cars.
oh yeah, I would love to get through all the 80s supermini hot hatches,
Uno turbo for me please 👌🏻
I recon it will be quick
Your missing the Mitsubishi Starion turbo.
absolutely - would love a review on one of them,
I got a 2 year ban in my uno 25 years ago, video is on TH-cam 👀
oh really! drop us the link
Silvia please Chris !!!
good choice mate
Had a cherry turbo in red back in 1992, in a straight line it could live with stock series 1 rs turbo.........but when you got to the corners it was a nightmare 🤣🤣 absolutely loved it though until the head cracked and I got rid at a suction for £180 😭😪
yeah I can believe it, there would be no weight to them. ah that's a shame, but probably the fate of many of them
Would it be possible to stick a a modern day fat turbo into any of them ? Like would it be mental speeds if you did ?
The owner (me) has a red sunny with a fat 375hp turbo sr20det in it ….. he will do a vid on it once i put a new screen in…..
prob, but you wouldn't want to, likely you won't find any mechanical bits to replace what you break
@@jasonosler4757 cool I will look forward to seeing it
@@RetroRatchet Probs would need to read and speak Japanese lol
wish the Uno was a MK 1 - SOOOO much better car than the revised 1.4 facelifted version
yeah me too, ill hopefully be offered one for the channel at some point
160mph speedo on the UNO a bit optimistic lol its only a 1.4 turbo i think so even tuned 140mph is around the max that would do
be interesting to find out!
@@RetroRatchet Yeah 👍 🙂
What? The Uno is more understated than the Cherry? No way, the Cherry looks very bland for a sporty model imo.
The Uno is the best looking out of the three.
yup - haha - no graphics on that uno!
Silvia for me
good choice
Who painted the uno, 😂😂
