Awesome! We should all have this instead of wasting so much water on flushing & compost processing stations & giant community orchards. Incredible video! Thank you!
I have watched you for years. I love love love how you give it to us straight. You always provide the pros and cons and the details needed to truly help viewers make a decision. I've watched a lot of RV travel videos and have never found any that were so helpful and "nuts and bolts". Thank you Robin!
I'll never look at a Milky Way candy bar the same way again.😂😅😂😂😂 I loved your demonstration. It was one of the most thorough ones I've seen on composting toilets. Thanks for sharing.😊
You are so funny! A Hershey syrup kind of day? lol thank you for this, everyone talks about the composting toilet but no one ever shows how it actually works.
I don't need to use a composting toilet as of now. But I might sometime in the future. Nobody talks in detail about how it works or even how to dispose of it. Thank you for your detailed video and for taking the time to demonstrate it. I know a lot of people are going to appreciate that.
Everyone talks in details about how it works and how to dispose of it. I bet you have hardly even looked. And this is a dry toilet. No composting ever happens.
Love Love Love this video! When you pulled out the Hershey syrup I died! Love it. I've been watching you since you started and I remember thinking I had YEARS till retirement. This past weekend I committed to a 2018 16' scamp that I will pick up at the end of August and I am scared to learn how to take care of it, but I know I can learn. I still have 4 years till retirement (and will still have to work a little after retirement), but I'm going to use these next 4 years to really get the hang of scamp life. I've been in my shuttle bus, car, and tents for the past several years while I still live in my condo. Thanks for being such an inspiration!
You sold me! I bought the OGO Nomad for just $200. It's just me in a Pleasure Way van, so thankful to find you. Anytime someone is new to rving, I recommend that they check out your channel. Thanks Robin
I love that you used a variety of treats for the poo! I was wondering about the Hershey’s, and how that would work. This was really helpful! You truly are creative!! 😊
People need to realize that “composting” toilets don’t compost unless you let the organic “stuff” break down and that takes months. I’m with you Robin, bag it up and toss in the trash. Personally I just use a bucket-type toilet with pine pellets and bag it up every 2-3 days. No smell, no moving parts, easy to clean, and CHEAP!
This sounds like a very economical way to do it! Qs: 1.) How do you keep it from tipping over when traveling? 2.) Do you have some kind of seat for the top of it that you can put on to "go", then put a lid on the bucket, and remove the seat when you've "done your business'?
@@wendyclark387 I have it stored (unused of course ) under the bed, while traveling. No problems. Yes I have the Reliance Hassock portable toilet (Amazon). It’s just a bucket within a bucket that has a toilet seat and a lid. Look it up it’s great. I put a trash bag in with about two cups of pine pellets then place another bag over the first, add pellets, and keep stacking bags until I have a good supply ready to go. Trust me you can use a single bag for several days with zero smell and cleanup is pulling the bag out, tying it off, and throwing in the garbage. Doesn’t get any easier.
Thank you Robin for this information again , .because I dreaded the thought of having to go to a dump station. I haven't started on my adventures yet, still trying to pick out the right van for me......
Robyn please be careful out there. Just saw on local news, someone murdered a woman in her camper in Teller County. 😢 Another shooting at the Citadel mall as well. 😑
GREAT instruction video!! I want a composting toilet for my basement, instead of running up to 2nd flr whenever I'm working in the bsmt. This will definitely work!!!! Clean-up looks like a breeze - thanks for sharing!
OMG Girl!! You crack me up. Your visual aids are priceless. I can hardly stop laughing. I plan on purchasing an RV in a year or two. I had already decided to get a composting toilet and you sold me on the OGO Brand. Thank you for all of your amazing videos. You’re the best!! Safe Travels
OMG! 😂 The props!! Thanks to you, we replaced our NH composting toilet about 6 weeks ago. No looking back, just the best. And, we were able to sell the NH. Win-Win. Thank you!
Thank you Robin! I have been watching RV videos for years now as I plan for my eventual retirement. This really, really helps me to understand how the composting toilet works and how I need one for sure.
You are correct, this is a great compost toilet. When I get my new truck with wedge camper, I’m putting one of these in it! I cycle so this is a great way to avoid bad public toilets. Btw, if you’re having a payday day, ouch! 😂
I’m very leaning toward the OGO and so happy you are still happy with it. I have a little camper and also a tiny house. Wondering if it can be set up on a base as I am now 70 and it’s getting harder to get up.
I just use a regular cartridge toilet, line with an 8 gal bag, when I urinate I add pellets and keep going until full. I tie it off and dispose in trash. It becomes a solid pine brick basically. When going poo, I use a fresh bag each time, add pellets, tie it off then dispose. I never have odors and a 40lb bag a pine pellets is just $8 a bag at the tractor supply store.
Just picked one up with your discount code. We needed a toilet which is funny really. That's how we met you at the dump station in NV. We are building a trailer out, sold the van and just so happened to need a new pooper. I hope we can figure this out. The time we all tried to figure out the dump station it was kind of messy. I remember those years ago. :) Hope you're well we are always viewing your videos. -A&J.
I was cracking up at your creative representation of the different types of poop we all have at times. It was also very educational, since that was one reason I was hesitant on looking into composting toilets. Especially the last example. Not that it happens often, but it if it does... a serious question regarding the last example, how do you clean any "collateral damage" that might get around the bowl around the chute? With the OGO, I'd assume since there's a drain to the bottle, just close the chute and rinse it off. Thanks again. Jayman...
My uncle got tn trouble by a park ranger for putting that compost in dumpster. I seldom yave to pay to dump. Almost all rest stops here in Washington have free rv dump stations.
I bought a tiny house to Airbnb and it came with an Air Head compost toilet. It worked fine, but not as wonderfully as the Ogo I replaced it with. Especially for me, who is obviously the one who is going to maintain it. Sometimes Ogo will have a scratch and dent option for a very nice savings. Highly recommend the Ogo compost toilet.
Hi Robin, Me and my husband want to get a OGO for our motorhome. We've looked for videos about how do you dump the compost after installing urine diverter but no one has one. Also do you rinse out the composting bucket after you dump it?
How do you clean it? Does it smell when emptying it? Is it better than the toilets that tied it off in a bag? If it's compost, can it be put over plants? Thankyou!
Looks nice! We do a Dry-Flush w/cat-liter for liquid and like this, it's wraps up into a nice (clean) change out -> trash bag that you can legally put into the dumpster including toile paper + wipes. However, the canisters are *expensive* - about $30 per week for 1 person or 3days for 2 of us older folks that use it a lot. Great for week long camping trips every other month - not so sure about daily living. The compost seems better for solids but looks problematic for aiming/dealing w/liquid and you didn't mention toile paper + wipes - do wipes mix in OK?
So how does it work for the “Hershey kind of a day” when you put the Hershey syrup into the “bowl” instead of directly into the catch bucket?? I can only imagine!!!!!
I still have so many questions about over-all environmental footprint. Where is the corer made, how far is it shipped to supplier and then to me and do I really feel comfortable about putting my poop in a landfill?
I wish they worked for bigger families. They look like they're absolutely wonderful for single people and maybe even couples. Start adding in 1, 2, 5 kids and feasibility goes out the window on them. Great video though!
Has anyone then used their black tank as an added grey tank, or simply removed your black tank all together? I have an OGO coming for my new Northern Lite truck camper and am just wondering if anyone has had the same idea?
I have a NL, but u still have to dump the grey tank, so what's the point? And how do u plan on tying in the black tank into the grey tank, cause these campers are full fibreglass shells not accessible like a trailer is where you can pull down the under belly n work on the tanks n anything else. 🍻
The original ones were about $1,000 and I don't know if this one is as well. Just to say, there are many options now where they didn't used to be and they are significantly less expensive like a few hundred dollars. If you poke around you should be able to find them but they don't automatically crank you have to crank them yourself or some of them don't have cranks at all and the compost just sits there. The one I was looking at a long time ago when there weren't as many options was made by a company called c head. They were about $600 back in the day I'm sure it's more now.
Using a urinal container and the bucket method is okay, but I ❤ my nature's head in my tiny house because I only need to dump the solid waste every 2-3 months and the urine container once a week! And no, there isn't any smell. I used a vinegar/water spray and pure alcohol to inhibit the growth of bacteria, which is where odors come from! We really need to STOP deficating in our fresh water supplies NOW!
I see that it has a power cord to operate the fan and turning mechanism. I also see that with the discount, it’s about $930. If I ever travel alone, I am definitely getting this. NO DUMPING FOR ME because it’s too gross.

Thanks for the very clear and concise coverage of this topic. I found it very helpful.
Robin- you are the best! This is the simplest video ever made about composting toilets! Thank you!
I'm glad you are expanding to include 'the tiny houses' as we use most of the nomad's suggestions

Best for most toilet systems to just put wipes and tp into small trash can and empty the garbage every couple days.

Hi Robin
New to all this
How do you dump your grey water tank?
Environmentally. this just isn't composting. That plastic bag is never going to compost.
You can use biodegradable bags when you empty the bucket
not to mention it is only partially composted in 3 weeks.
I still have so many questions about over-all environmental footprint. Where is the corer made, how far is it shipped to supplier and then to me and do I really feel comfortable about putting my poop in a landfill?
well...cured me of brownies, candy bars and syrup lol
Cinematic 👏⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have to ask this. Some of us prefer to wash our butts, use bidets, instead of wipe. How would this composting toilet handle the excess water?
I wish they worked for bigger families. They look like they're absolutely wonderful for single people and maybe even couples. Start adding in 1, 2, 5 kids and feasibility goes out the window on them. Great video though!
For more people consider having two and choose a model that has a large urine container. IE the Trelino L.
Fun video!
I did just get a OGO but I’m in process of installing it.
Great video,thnx
Love your poop descriptions 😊
Why on earth are these so expensive? I dont get it. A thousand bucks for a crapper? Wow!
A bucket with coconut core and a container for pee. Works great 👍
The original ones were about $1,000 and I don't know if this one is as well. Just to say, there are many options now where they didn't used to be and they are significantly less expensive like a few hundred dollars. If you poke around you should be able to find them but they don't automatically crank you have to crank them yourself or some of them don't have cranks at all and the compost just sits there. I have a septic tank, no need to worry...
If only all our poo could smell like a good chocolate bar, lol. Robin, how long have you had your OGO?
A milky way kind of a day!!! To funny.
How does the Nomad work? Didn't you have one of those?
I see that it has a power cord to operate the fan and turning mechanism. I also see that with the discount, it’s about $930. If I ever travel alone, I am definitely getting this. NO DUMPING FOR ME because it’s too gross.
Love the poo examples. Ha ha ha. Very informative.
OK, I have to ask, where does the toilet paper go when you pee? (I'm a female) Do I (you) drip dry or give my booty a little shake to get that last drop? Also there have been times when I've had a touch of food poisoning or some other gut issues and I'm "pissing out my arse". Will the coconut core handle that? My apologies if I come off sounding rude, but I'm just curious.
I had the same questions.
The company website said you can put single ply or biodegradable toilet paper in the "solids" tank.
Question: the toilet uses electric - this will work off a battery if you're not hooked up to shore power or do you need an inverter?
Is it compatible with a bidet?
where do you put toilet paper??
