    This one is really useful. A budget controlled irons new form factor that got popular. Saving bench space. Also having an agile handpiece.
    The tiny controller can slide around though. Some substantial stand is a must add if used as main bench iron. Good to have one even as a second iron of increased portability and multi power source adaptability.

    Thanks, great review. I really don't fancy that small controller, prob going to be all over my desk. I now use my Weller for desktop use. I do have a mobile one, the TS100 which is comparable to the one you shown but has the controls like OLED and buttons in the handle. I thought it would be too flimsy and tiny, but it works out quite well as long as you are not expecting to do plumbing.

      On the other hand the small controller doesn't take up much realestate on the desk.

    When a young man, we used to have a really big iron for heavy duty jobs. The thing was a monster. a 100 watt American Beauty, must have weighed ~ 2 lbs. haha

    Most informative review on this iron! I just ordered one of these for my first real iron and I need to order a power supply. To get the most oomph I think the barrel jack is the way to go, 24v vs the 20v that all PD 3.0 blocks seem to output. But what about amps, how many amps will this thing pull? Will it pull more amps on 20v vs 24v to achieve the 65w? Speaking of which, in your video it was only pulling 2.4/2.5 amps so it's looking like a 60w soldering iron to me, not the 65w they claim. Not that I care about the 5w, I did order one after all.

      Lower voltage = less max watts.

    Even though I've used mostly conical tips for years, I like flat fat tips better, standard conical tips sometimes don't have the mass required for some joints, and if I have to angle the tip I might as well use a flat tip instead.

    • @somebodyx
      @somebodyx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. Flat tip is a go-to daily driver. Most flexible and power transfer efficient. An assortment of different tips is good to have nonetheless. There are situations that a certain tip profile will fit a job much better.

    • @montynorth3009
      @montynorth3009 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Conical tips are unidirectional which is why I prefer them, although I wouldn't argue regarding heavy joints.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easier to bridge joints with flat tip. I've used both and for the fine work the conical is my preferred weapon

    Good video. I got a couple of KSGER soldering stations from Amazon after testing one out. They are very nice too, but I believe all of their models run just off the mains for power. That is okay for me, though, as I always have inverters in the vehicles to power all of the test equipment. The battery or quality power adapter is a nice option to have with that Sequre MSS12, though. Thank you for sharing this review.

      Same iron, plug is compatible. Strength to this one is it can be powered by battery. A 4 18650 cells in series, or even a 12v gel cell will power this for portable on site repairs.

      @@12voltvids - I definitely like the small footprint controller too, of that Sequre MSS12 iront too. I may have missed it, but did you say how much current it pulled at the higher voltage you providedd to it? Wonder what size of buck converter to convert 12 volts up to the higher voltage to get the maximum soldering iron wattage.. Thank you so much for responding!

    • @12voltvids

      @@sonyajones I did. It was a couple amps. I'm just going to use my USBC power supply. The small size of the controller is bound to make this one a permanent addition to my bench.

    I don't like the prospect of that little control box jumping around and twisting on my bench, rather it should be part of a stand, although I suppose you could attach it to your own one in some way.
    Also ,power supply should be included.
    I have plenty of 12V power supplies ranging from 300ma to 1.5 amp with varying DC power plugs which may or may not fit.
    What is the current capability required for the wall wart?
    Do we know the price?

      I like that it doesn't come with a power supply. These days everyone has at least one barrel jack or USB-C supply lying around somewhere. Happy to lose the overhead cost of them including yet another cable. Your 1.5A supply would work fine, would just take a bit longer to reach heat. The BYO-supply is daunting to those unwilling to take the extra minute to look at the tool's datasheet and make sure they have what they need, but that's more of a sign of the times than anything, I think...
