Honestly, for some reason it's easier for me to draw on paper with just a pen. My brain automatically auto-fixes some mistakes that I would have definitely done with a pencil
Everytime I'm on the train I always try to do some sketches but my social anxiety kills me here. I've done it a few times to the point that I can keep on going if the room isn't packed but as soon there's a guy next to me, that sketchbook is instantly in the bag.

Thanks, glad to hear i motivated you to draw, definitely give both digital and traditional art a go, there very different so see which one you like best ❤️
Drawing traditionally makes you more disciplined. Digital lets you be sloppy with the sketch and refine it without a penalty. Something in between is the best. Just stop yourself from drawing mindlessly. However, that's one thing that's unbeatable with digital -- moving and transforming parts when you realize at the very end that proportions are off 😢
Yes it really dose, I had to think and use my brain so much more when drawing traditionally, it’s so different form digital, it’s been really fun though and I’ll keep drawing on paper from now on, thanks for the nice comment Yavnrh
The other thing with digital you can't get away with on paper... Not caring about framing. On paper you have to make sure whatever you're going for will fit in the desired space. Most modern drawing software has an effectively infinite canvas, where you crop it down after you're done. So going back to the traditional route, sometimes you may go nuts because it'll either things look too tight for space if not running off the edges.
I’ve noticed even if most professional concept artists do all their work digitally. all of them Tell you that they keep a sketchbook and they practice your line work on actual paper. taking classes from some professional artists and they always tell you that they practice drawing on paper. they only really use digital when they have to do it for work or when they’re doing like a commission piece for someone or when they’re actually just practising you know digital techniques and stuff. But they tell you that you improved way faster if you drawn paper because you can’t really do Shortcuts; erasing infinitely liquefying, undoing. but it’s also good to draw digitally as well if you’re just starting out with digital and you’re coming from traditional. it’s way different to draw on a glass screen. You always get nicer lines on paper. It’s just a different feeling you just gotta get used to drawing on a tablet. Just switched from traditional drawing on a tablet for four months now and I’m pretty used to it, but still doesn’t feel as nice as paper even with a screen protector

This is so cool! I’ve always been a traditional artist so it’s funny for me to see someone struggle with traditional the way I struggle with digital art. If I do only pen then I try hard to let go of that “clean” look and go all in on the scratchiness. But I usually draw more to realism, and I’ve always had trouble doing cartoon or animated styles with just pen.
Thanks for the advice Carnosaur, I’ll definitely try going all in with my scratchiness, and I never realised how much of a difference there was between digital and traditional, it’s a completely different way of drawing, good luck with your digital art, and thanks again for the nice comment ❤️
Drawing with pen is super hard even for trad artists (at least, in my experience.) you cant draw guidelines and it makes you think a lot more about your line placements. You can rub out pencil and tweak your lines. Your progress is great, im going to try this to become more confident with pen.
Just got my tablet to help me in my student life but I also picked a tablet for drawing and I've always drawn on paper before so now i need to train in tablet and I have the exact same feeling as you do in the video lmao :D
Haha I picked up a drawing tablet to help me at university and that’s why I started with anime art myself, keep at it and you will be an incredible artist! ❤️
best advice I can give you is to make few 3d models until you can do a 3d model with out having a reference that improves your understanding of a 3d space, perspective and anatomy.
You weren't happy with your work, but I wish I could draw as good as you. I have no line confidence either but I also can't just casually crank out shapes like you. I could NEVER just do a good eye in one shot, let alone in ink
I really enjoyed the video as you realised how overpowered pencils are. I have a few questions: 1. what was the reason that made you decide to draw using only pen (this seems like a handicap?)? 2. It seems that drawing only using pen created the perfect storm for performance failure, as it increased your desire to make perfect drawings without the benefit of using pencil guidelines (something most 2d animators and even professional artists use). 3. By not using a pencil, you are really removing the element of "play" and line exploration that comes with using a pencil and I think this compounded point 2. Visited your commission website and it is by far the most logically organized and presented of the many I've seen. Keep grinding and you shall go far.
your art style looks so nice, Jesus. I feel like you could’ve just skipped all of this and just went. Here’s some drawings a made lol but good for you learning how to draw without sketching and on paper with a pen no less Wait you did WHAT?!? Hold on, wait wait wait- I need to know how you achieve such power 5:24 Yeah hatching is literally the only reason I draw something’s on paper, like for some unknown reason I LOVE how it looks on paper but the second I try that digitally uh…..
as someone who started drawing in the school with no reference and almost 80% of my drawings are completelly from imagination, i just relate to make people wait cuz i rlly take my time to get everything right and if you give me only 20 minutes i cant do anything at least good
It's really hard to start sketching on paper, I'm traditional artist and get used for a while now in digital, but once I came back again drawing on paper after 2-3 years I lost my senses of depth and my drawing feels flat and uninteresting. It takes a while to get the momentum back and I start to put all the anatomy that I've learned to get that feeling. It's good exercises for my mind because it teaches me again how to draw and get back to my mental state.
maybe im being early but this video is so good, i thought it was hundred thousand views or smth, turn out its only a few hundred. this will get viral soon
As someone who stared off traditional to digital, I can’t really relate which makes this interesting I got use to drawin traditional young. Fr impressive to draw raw without any pencil sketches
Key things in this video: 1. *DON'T* draw in front of people 2. Use references and reduce overtime 3. Be consistent! Anyways, drawing in public is also hard for me, even if it would be cool to let people know that I never sketch and continue with line art, it's like I get nervous that it may turn out bad when someone is looking, and I never use references everytime, that's a reason too, with this video, I realized so many things missing to me, thank you very much! :3
Yeah I feel the same, it sucks when people expect something amazing from you, but keep at it and you will get used to it! Also thanks for the nice comment Dizzy
Yeah, digital art can definitely be just as skillful as traditional art, but the I think key thing with traditional art is the inability to work in multiple discrete layers that can be separately manipulated. I would kill for that sometimes when doing layered colours in pencil 😅
I used to draw a lot in public as a kid cuz I didn't understand things but I gradually stopped doing it until now, sometimes just feeling like stepping out of my confort zone and stuff and just be in the zone
Usually talents where the process itself takes the main stage are easier to show off to ppl on the spot, on the other hand talents where the main focus is the final product are harder to showoff to anyone unless theyre already interested in it.
Thanks Hanncakezz, I’m using a insta 360 to get most of the car shots, it’s actually a good little camera, I have used go-pros in the past and they always delete my footage😡 I also used my dslr camera for the cinematic shots, I use to do car videos on TH-cam so I enjoy filming things, Hope this helps and thanks for the nice comment ❤️
the transition from digital to paper was the same for me but the other way around 😭 i got my first drawing tablet but i couldnt draw well on it for several months because it felt weird
Thanks Mools I started in 2021 so have been drawing for a couple of years, I love to simplify my art, that’s where I got my style, so I definitely recommend giving that a go!
i would draw on my sketchbook in public if i wasn't scared of others seeing my drawings from months ago before i made a jump in skill, and those drawings, oh those drawings in particular
me when i thought this video was gonna be about social anxiety and not wanting your family and 5 siblings to find out the eldest son draws cute manga girls like that stuff my sister reads and not having any privacy to pursue your publicly looked down upon passions
You absolutely can, I didn’t push myself as hard as i wanted to, so that’s why I only drew face on illustrations (I find that easier). I have definitely gotten better after some practice, so keep at it and you got this BeepMann! ❤️
I on the other hand create abominations on the tablet display and draw relatively nice on paper...idk how people get so insanely smooth lineart and so good shadows and anything in general...Tried different canvas different brushes, sensitivity, pen pressure all the same. On paper everything just works perfectly i draw line and got line
I draw much better on traditional paper and I could draw without referense because like you I kept on drawing and drawing to the point that I memorized it. Then, I recently got a digital tablet and here I thought it would be easy because I could draw on paper, but no. It was so difficult. Do you have any tips there that I could follow?? Thanks
It’s funny I never realised how different drawing on paper was to drawing digitally. Most of the fundamental information you know about drawing an anime girl translates quite well, but it’s the lines themselves and the confidence that tends to suffer, so I recommend just filling a couple of pages with lines, boxes and circles until you get used to how the pen pressure and ink looks. Hope this helps, but let me know how it goes. You got this Komi ❤️
@@CalebArty Yes, you are right. Everything I learned just falls apart when I draw digitally and it demotivates me so much seeing that I'm so bad, and feeling that I should just draw on paper where I'm comfortable at. I'll try your advice and I hope I can get the same confidence I have on paper in drawing digitally.
@@Komi_Is_My_Name drawing on tablet requires building additional neural paths. Brain doesn't like spending energy, that's why you feel dissatisfied. It wants to get back to something you already know - paper - because that doesn't use as much energy. Ignore it and just keep pushing. Once you'll build enough neurons you'll be fine, it just takes time to train. Pretty much same with anything Tell me if you wanna be friends 🥺

I'm german and straight up have the same Akebi art book. Now I'll also have to try drawing some of it haha
Ayyy nice one, it’s a great book and I love the anime too, hope you enjoy drawing from it ❤️
as someone who started drawing in the school with no reference and almost 80% of my drawings are completelly from imagination, i just relate to make people wait cuz i rlly take my time to get everything right and if you give me only 20 minutes i cant do anything at least good
It's really hard to start sketching on paper, I'm traditional artist and get used for a while now in digital, but once I came back again drawing on paper after 2-3 years I lost my senses of depth and my drawing feels flat and uninteresting. It takes a while to get the momentum back and I start to put all the anatomy that I've learned to get that feeling. It's good exercises for my mind because it teaches me again how to draw and get back to my mental state.
i needed this video
that cooper cold start wow just... wow
Haha glad you like my little mini, that was one of the last times I’m able to drive her before winter this year, so I enjoyed the drive ❤️
@@CalebArty is that a 1275 or just a 1000(or even a 1300 I dont know how to ID tbh xD)
Yeah she’s a 1275, it’s the bigger engine so she has a really good power to weight ratio, compared to other minis I drive with, she’s pretty quick!
@@CalebArty really cool and if you dont mind me asking which kind of mods do you have on there, or is it mostly stock?
Thats some nice CAR u got there !!
Thanks Mixedhen glad you like my little mini ❤️
You definitely took this opportunity to show off your truck
maybe im being early but this video is so good, i thought it was hundred thousand views or smth, turn out its only a few hundred. this will get viral soon
Wow thanks MrKien I appreciate you thinking that, I’m super surprised my little video is doing so well, and im glad you enjoyed it, thanks again ❤️
As someone who stared off traditional to digital, I can’t really relate which makes this interesting
I got use to drawin traditional young. Fr impressive to draw raw without any pencil sketches
Key things in this video:
1. *DON'T* draw in front of people
2. Use references and reduce overtime
Babe wake up, Another banger by Caleb just dropped!
Haha thanks Fuecoco ❤️
AYYYEEE!!!... My Names Caleb Too!!!!
Haha Hi Caleb ❤️
freehand ink is so fun and liberating like wearing a short skiiiiiirrrt
Unfathomably based.
Haha thanks Enemote
Good work 🎉 well done 👍🏽 4:31
Thank you Maya ❤️
when in public i don't DRAW
i literally sketch and scribble
the more references/details i get the better i can get at home in peace
BASED MINI COOPER!
I find myself ctrl z / 2 finger tapping my paper trying to undo
Hahah yeah I definitely did that a couple of times 😂
Wow that’s amazing
Thank you! ❤️
Dam you got the car of my dreams so jealous
bro actually driving. For a sec, i was thinking the car scene was a random footage. nice to meet your channel
Thanks Hoshizora, glad you liked it, I used to do car videos so I’ve always enjoyed filming my cars. ❤️
I used to draw a lot in public as a kid cuz I didn't understand things but I gradually stopped doing it until now, sometimes just feeling like stepping out of my confort zone and stuff and just be in the zone
Usually talents where the process itself takes the main stage are easier to show off to ppl on the spot, on the other hand talents where the main focus is the final product are harder to showoff to anyone unless theyre already interested in it.
omg i love that you are drawing in the car!!! are you using a go-pro?
Thanks Hanncakezz, I’m using a insta 360 to get most of the car shots, it’s actually a good little camera, I have used go-pros in the past and they always delete my footage😡
I also used my dslr camera for the cinematic shots, I use to do car videos on TH-cam so I enjoy filming things,
Hope this helps and thanks for the nice comment ❤️
These are great! What pen are you using to ink these?
Hi Ivy, I’m using a copic fineliner 👍
your car is amazing brother
the transition from digital to paper was the same for me but the other way around 😭 i got my first drawing tablet but i couldnt draw well on it for several months because it felt weird
How long have you been drawing for? Your style is very simple but so appealing!
Thanks Mools I started in 2021 so have been drawing for a couple of years,
I love to simplify my art, that’s where I got my style, so I definitely recommend giving that a go!
I'm glad I knew the character you were drawing at the end were Gura, I'm glad to be a fan of Gura.
I love watching gura so much, and I’m happy you recognised her, thanks for the nice comment Zoterodisuke ❤️
i would draw on my sketchbook in public if i wasn't scared of others seeing my drawings from months ago before i made a jump in skill, and those drawings, oh those drawings in particular
When ctrl+z is gone, my art is gone
DAMN, THAT CAR
was not expecting to see an amazing condition mini here.
also miata: 3:49
Thanks, glad you liked my little mini, got her fully restored a couple of years ago. ❤️
dude, i already have too much anxiety drawing by myself, let alone in public!
me when i thought this video was gonna be about social anxiety and not wanting your family and 5 siblings to find out the eldest son draws cute manga girls like that stuff my sister reads and not having any privacy to pursue your publicly looked down upon passions
alternate title: Learning To Overcome Art-Block, Social Anxiety, And Being An Digital Artist
Your "abomination" is roughly 5 times better than anything i can draw WITH reference 😂
Haha thanks, you will be much better than me in no time! Keep at it XpVersusVista
Damn, you made me realize I need to practice drawing from imagination / memory as well, but, if you did it then I probably can do so as well.
Pretty much same with anything
Tell me if you wanna be friends 🥺
wish i was as good at art as you
Keep at it and you will be better than me in no time Blindtravel, you got this ❤️
I literally am known as the guy who draws cute anime girls in school, I will walk into a classroom then draw a cat girl on the white board and sit down and it doesn't look bad!!?
Cool car :]
You have such a lovely car, so adorable!!! Your drawings are great too!
Hidden gem
Thank you ❤️
