    Those single coil tones sound absolutely sensational! The single coil voicing on the new Moderns sounds great too but these really blow them out of the water. Great review as always!

    I'm a funk-metal guy, funky cleans, heavy groove riffage. In the studio, I do all my heavy riffage on Ibanez RG guitars, and I pick up an SSS Strat to record the clean funk tones. Split coils never sound as good. I've tried them all, some sound a bit better than others, but never as good as a real single coil. Just for starters, you need alnino and not ceramic to get that spanky single coil Strat sound. Most humbuckers are ceramic and that sounds kinda dull on a single coil. Fender put in ceramic singles on their Squires to make you think you have to buy a Strat for the spank sound, but it's really just an alnico single coil pickup making that happen. Live I'll just use my split coils when need be, but studio it's gotta be the SSS guitar.
    Nothing gives me the clean funky tones like a single coil Strat. There would be other SSS guitars that can do it as long as they have alnico single pickups, but the Strat is the easy goto. I'm not in love with the rounded 7.5-9.5" fretboard, the medium fret size and nickel etc or anything like that, I much prefer my modern RG's - but the funk sound? I need the SSS Strat. Looking at your playing, it doesn't strike me as something you'd even want a Strat for, your ambient tones with heavy riffs. Horses for courses.

      All fair points mate. Agreed about split coils, never really get you close enough. Still think you should try these Tim Henson pickups as they are the closest to SS tones ive heard from a humbucker. Thanks for watching!

    absolutely agree on the pickups, I got my TOD10 last July from Live Louder after trying it out not expecting to like it as I generally dislike the sound of fishmans, but I was completely shocked to find out they just don't sound anything like Fishmans typically do.

    I've owned one since last July. I have to say the if you're someone who likes clean tones you won't be looking back, heavier tones don't do so well on it. The neck took some getting used to, especially if you look down the fretboard rather than on the inlay dots since the inlay could be a little disorientating but hey it's the price of using something that pretty.

    • @GuitarCinemaOfficial
      @GuitarCinemaOfficial  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Fair point about the neck inlay I've been trained to only use side markers since I own so many guitars without dot markers on the fretboard!

    There are also an inexpensive in somewhat simular (Squier) alternative, the Ibanez GSA60.
    A good guitar already there in that affordable segment one that I will recomend beginners and for them as curious on Ibanez.
    A well made guitar and that I will stay with the Ibanez brand.

    my friend got TOD10 this year and sent it back: the body finish was inconsistent (it had some weird grain on the side of the upper horn), the headstock color didn't match the body, pups caveats were poorly made and not properly painted, the neck joint was loose and fret ends were like a jigsaw. I guess it's a hit or miss with this model.
    Thank you for the review!

    The guitar is based of their AZ range, I have the AZ2404 version, it’s a beautiful guitar, I’m a southpaw lefty, and would love to get the TOD as a lefty version, my only issue is that my AZ is a prestige model made in Japan, and I can’t understand why they didn’t make this signature guitar in Japan with prestige based spec over premium spec which it’s based on. All signature guitars should be made in Japan IMO as they should be some of the best models in the ibanez range, like the JS, PIA and Fireman. I’d love ibanez to show more love to us southpaw players, Iv been wanting another chance to own a JS lefty for ages but they are so rare.
    Otherwise I do like this guitar I just wish it had a better finish

    Yo James nice video! I just got my tod10 and im loving it, I'm also using an audio interface with reaper and running tim henson archetype through it, do you notice an absured about of noise if you turn the gate down? I can't seem to use it without hearing this fizzing noise and it's disturbing, could be just ground noise but was curious if you've experienced this

    This is just my own opinion...
    The guitar is really nice, but it almost to versitile. I play in a deathmetal band, and i just got a set of EMG's in most of mine. 🤘
    One volume, selector GO!😉
    i'v never understood why you would need so many opsions and individual sounds out of onces guitar if that makes sence?

    The quality control on these has been terrible. I went through 4 different units and everyone of them had pretty irreconcilable issues - when I finally got a good sounding/playing one with no soldering issues, the fret ends werent filled in so there was basically a hole under every fret on the side of the fretboard.
    Took a shot in the dark and sent a lowball reverb offer on a b-stock model ($825 lol). Came in absolutely perfect, sounds amazing and plays amazing. Super stoked I finally landed on a good one, because when you get one that is made right, its immaculate!

      @vladyslavlavrenov9167 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting, I just got mine, I like how it looks but It's my first expensive electric guitar and I cannot judge it properly.
      Everything about the fret is great, I do have issues with the body, the pickups mounted not perfectly, they are kinda in a skewed angle so they don't align well and the 2 pickups (that are far away from the fretboard) the very last one is also not perfectly parallel to the guitar body, it's kinda tilted towards the fret board. IDK if it's okay, but anyway.
      The sound is okay, but I haven't set up everything yet regarding the archetype plugin, I have some noise issues with it atm. Some of the Tim's presets sound bad and dirty, I am trying to figure out whether it's the audio interface (scarlett solo gen4) or the guitar

  • @kamallica
    @kamallica 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    This is more in the super strat category. I’m sure it’s very good but certainly not in the modern strat category. Something like the Andy Timmons Ibanez or a Suhr Pete thorn standard would be a modern strat. This is not a modern strat.

    • @adamcogan211
      @adamcogan211 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      What are you talking about?????? This is an az based model (which is traditional and modern combined). Not a super strat in the slightest

    • @kamallica
      @kamallica 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@adamcogan211 if a player was looking for a modern strat this isn’t what they’d be looking for. How Ibanez market/label shouldn’t be taken as a gospel. A strat is more than single coil tones. PRS have been doing amazing single coil tones for well before this existed and they aren’t modern strats. At the end of the day though, if one wanted strat-esque sounds from a guitar this isn’t a bad shout.

    • @GuitarCinemaOfficial
      @GuitarCinemaOfficial  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Personally id say the RG or even S Ibanez line is more super strat. Reason I consider this a modern Strat take is not just the tones but the Wilko style bridge. Neck profile, thin Strat type nut and body shape (AZ).
