The new Tomb Raiders may have the advantage of modern technology but will never have that special magical feeling of the old ones, in fact most games nowadays no matter how advanced simply don't have that 'special something' that old games had
If you plated those new ones as a child and now tried these old ones, you would say the exact opposite. This "magic" is kid's perception, it has nothing to do with game itself. Your nostalgia is cheating you.
I am not exaggerating, this is my favourite game of all time. And believe me, I have played and finished a TON of single player games. None of them, even the Silent Hill games couldn't capture the atmosphere of this one. This was magical. This was something else...

back then we were happy with some blocks, and pixels. its crazy, i play competitive games since more than 10 years, and the fun gets slowly lost along the way. those times were something i think about daily, cant let go of that era at all!

I played this game with my father, he is no longer with us. But these songs always remind me of him, playing PS1 on the couch with a bit of snacks on a Friday or Saturday night, I'd always try to get my homework done early to play this with him. Great memories, thanks to the developers for the absolutely priceless times :)

That main theme is so hauntingly beautiful. To me it tells the story of "Here is the end to a legend and let it be know indeed she is a legend" There is a sense of tragedy and conclusion as well as an exclimation of power in the piece. Truly the last revelation. TR 1-4 are the best tr games.

Man, such a classic. Sounds silly, but this almost brings me to tears. I really miss the simplicity of these days, the early Dreamcast days, when the world felt a lot easier to live in.
Wonderful soundtrack. This game gave me my passion and love for Egyptology! I only fully finished it several months ago using a walkthrough, because when I was younger, my child brain couldn't comprehend the backtracking. Even today, it feels like a challenge without help.
Love this OST! The subtle evolution between McCree’s work on TR1 through TR2, TR3, then TLR is astounding. I absolutely love how the fluidity and lingering bass from TR3 carried over to TLR, but with the added that classic middle eastern sound that together defines the mystique of Egyptian storytelling. Absolutely beautiful! Also, on the topic of old games like this feeling different from modern games: Due in large part to the limitations (data limits on cartridges and disks, hardware capabilities) of older games, I feel like games had more focus and attention back in the day, which increased immersion. We multitasked less than we do now, were more focused and were less distracted. To have *one* objective to complete, and, even if a larger game (RPGs) provided us many branching avenues to pursue, at least we were to focus completely on just one at a time (because we often had to complete the current objective before we could go on to the next), was what games were all about back then. It was one on one, an intimate, organized experience. That one task at a time, that one game at a time-and that was always enough. I feel nowadays, we have so much thrown in our faces that our attention is scrambled and chaotic, juggling so much information at once that we limit our stimuli (focus and true attention) to a point to avoid sensory overload, and all that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s conductive to a different kind of experience and utilizes our brain in a completely different way. Modern gaming is certainly a more *social* experience, not unlike how we interact with others large groups, bouncing from conversation to conversation, missing out on some critical details of each one, but are well versed in everything that’s going on all at once. One would say that you get a more well rounded, objective and worldly experience that way, but you miss out on really forming a deep connection that makes the bond with that one person (one game) that much stronger. The level of fond remembrance (nostalgia) that you’ll always have when you look back on those lengthy, quality engagements (of course, missing out on a number of other opportunities). Playing newer games feels like you’re hanging out with your squad-playing older games feels like you’re spending quality time with your best friend. Although the cultural standards of the time will influence younger minds in particular to either the prevailing social or the bonding preference, some people are always going to prefer one or the other regardless of how they were raised, or what they were raised with. (Kind of a nature vs nurture kind of thing). Regardless, I have little doubt that people who are more focused will end up having more nostalgia for things, though. Again, it depends entirely on each person’s desired level of engagement with individual aspects of their entertainment, but many kids these days probably won’t experience nostalgia on the same incredibly intense levels the older generations will- older Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers and before.
Here's hopre that someday a developer who knows exactly what a Tomb Raider game means will develop a true sequel to the old ones ! Square Enix needs to understand that sometimes sticking to a franchise's identity is the best way to go ! i will never understand what they are thinking when they make Lara excecute people with a shotgun to their head ! Am i suppose to like her because of that ,uncharted is also a violent game but the new TR games take it to a whole new level that not only is unrealistic but also extremely out of place for Lara's character and image
Don't be a wuss....Plus Lara has ALWAYS been a one man army who would need a closet the size of her manor alone to keep with of all those skeletons of human and animals. Oh and whether you like it or not, things have to change and evolve (cleverly, that is) in order to survive. The last old TR games suffered because of stale and exhaustion, period. The sales of Anniversary, Legend and mostly Underworld reflected the overall decay of the franchise with the public. This is a business and even though companies cross the line (more and more frequently, sadly) the do have to rely on numbers to keep afloat. I love the new direction of TR 2013 and given the fact it's the best selling game in the series to date, many more do as well. These days Lara has a character with a interesting background story. Plus she has been de-sexualized, making her more human instead of the old plastic bad ass barbie with big boobs, well done Crystal Dynamics.

I loved Tomb Raider before when the puzzles were harder to solve. You really had to put your mind to it. Still have to play the new ones though. I know they are not the same but I love Lara.
My favorite part, and most sad part when Lara dies... I try to finish game with less time, found all secrets, finished game so many times, tought i could actualy save her...But that was the ending, it was her fate..😞😞😞
TR4 is one of the best TR series I played. What I like about TR4 is set in Egypt as I have fascinations about ancient Egypt - exploring ancient tombs, enjoying the nice Egyptian scenery and fighting mummies. Most underrated of the originals. Second favorite after the first.Just loved how the levels all linked together, the aesthetic, this awesome music. Only flaw was the last boss... I wanted to kill Set not just run from him.

My grandpa was the one who showed me and my sister this game. I remember just working to get to the level where you can drive the little blue keep around. The puzzles in these old games definitely had me ready to pull my hair out but were also so fun
For me, the best soundtrack of all, along with TAOD. Love it so much, one of the reasons I fell in love with Lara and her adventures. The reboot soundtracks lack of this classical feeling, they're so random and generic. The old ones were epic! Just listen the bosses themes in this one, or Sacred Lake Theme (Egyptian mood 2), one of my favorites. They're by far superior.
This used to be my least favorite of the classics, but after finally finishing the game, it's honestly one of my faves. I don't even want to rank them anymore, because 1-4 are all such great games that I'd hate to put any of them at the #4 spot.
Magical, magical game for me! So many hours of my childhood spent wandering around this game! It's still the only classic I never speedrun, I always take my time and get lost in the atmosphere. Only two gripes I had with the game were 1 - I hated, HATED the Lost Library level (never ending globe pushing, deceptively simple fire switch puzzle which just screams "FUCK YOU" after you spend ages trying complicated methods to work it out, that stupid horseman boss, so dull) and 2- the frigging motorbike in the Cairo levels. "WOOP picking up speed, here we go, jumping the gap, WOO! ... Oh shit I banged into a corner. Now to spend 45 seconds trying to reverse". I just used to reload the game all the time :)
I know a lot of people disagree with me but for me this is the best of the classic games. I don't know if it's because I was a massive Ancient Egypt fan (I used to binge watch The Mummy when I was a child too) but the atmosphere just really clicked for me. I used to really love just wandering slowly around the levels looking at things, especially in Coastal Ruins. And Desert Railroad is still my favourite level EVER! However, saying that, whoever designed that fucking motorbike in the Cairo levels needs a punch in the face. That thing was SHIT. I remember just reloading my game all the time because I couldn't be arsed spending 4 minutes reversing after smashing into a wall accidentally :-)

Most underrated of the originals. Second favorite after the first.Just loved how the levels all linked together, the aesthetic, this awesome music. Only flaw was the last boss... I wanted to kill Set not just run from him.
If it weren't for the Cairo and Pyramid levels, this game would be as great as the first three.

My grandpa was the one who showed me and my sister this game. I remember just working to get to the level where you can drive the little blue keep around. The puzzles in these old games definitely had me ready to pull my hair out but were also so fun

For me, the best soundtrack of all, along with TAOD. Love it so much, one of the reasons I fell in love with Lara and her adventures. The reboot soundtracks lack of this classical feeling, they're so random and generic. The old ones were epic! Just listen the bosses themes in this one, or Sacred Lake Theme (Egyptian mood 2), one of my favorites. They're by far superior.

Magical, magical game for me! So many hours of my childhood spent wandering around this game! It's still the only classic I never speedrun, I always take my time and get lost in the atmosphere. Only two gripes I had with the game were 1 - I hated, HATED the Lost Library level (never ending globe pushing, deceptively simple fire switch puzzle which just screams "FUCK YOU" after you spend ages trying complicated methods to work it out, that stupid horseman boss, so dull) and 2- the frigging motorbike in the Cairo levels. "WOOP picking up speed, here we go, jumping the gap, WOO! ... Oh shit I banged into a corner. Now to spend 45 seconds trying to reverse". I just used to reload the game all the time :)

I know a lot of people disagree with me but for me this is the best of the classic games. I don't know if it's because I was a massive Ancient Egypt fan (I used to binge watch The Mummy when I was a child too) but the atmosphere just really clicked for me. I used to really love just wandering slowly around the levels looking at things, especially in Coastal Ruins. And Desert Railroad is still my favourite level EVER! However, saying that, whoever designed that fucking motorbike in the Cairo levels needs a punch in the face. That thing was SHIT. I remember just reloading my game all the time because I couldn't be arsed spending 4 minutes reversing after smashing into a wall accidentally :-)
It's because those "lots of people" have no taste and can't appreciate a beautiful thing such as this game.
