Where it could have been really good, had the right pieces (like the storyline)... personally it was the worst Tomb Raider game for me, which is a shame because you're right, the soundtrack is fantastic.
AOD one always brings tears to my eyes. Back when I played this game, I was in middle school and I was being bullied by my school friends. I became very rebellious, always fought back to my bullies. And at home, I would play this game every evening when I got back from school, this music would always play at the main menu and I would feel okay. Such nostalgia...
I just love how faithful yet fresh is Tomb Raider Anniversary. The whole game, not just the OST. Brings changes but remains loyal to Lara. I wish they do an Anniversary 2 remake for Tomb Raider 2, keeping that love to the original as in Anniversary.
The problem with that is that while anniversary draws HEAVILY from the first game, it is still technically a reboot taking place in a different timeline. I'm not 100% on the details of the plot in 2, but I'm not sure if those events still fit into the soft reboot of that timeline the same way.

tomb raider came out when i was born, I'm now nearly 18 and been playing tomb raider since i was around 4; i've still got my original ps1 copy of tomb raider 2 - and i definitely prefer the old games compared to the new games. the stories were filled with so much imagination - i know with the new ones they have better graphics and are trying to make it more realistic; but you can't beat old lara :) Tomb Raider is the thing that inspired me to become a games developer - Toby Guard;lara's inventor, actually went to my college, so i feel good following in his footsteps

Things changed a lot, times fly so fast! graphics now are cool but i still prefer 90s, people were more happier. I think I forgot how to live.. you know that feeling? I can hardly believe that I'am 21yo! in a few seconds I was 8, life has lost the "magic" :(.. but i still play TR :D its perfect
Yeah I know the feeling, when tomb raider becomes really retro for our kids, it's gonna be sad that they won't realise that games like Tomb Raider were at the height of the technology back then, it was the best the graphics were and I love it, and always will!
TR Anniversary was by far one of the best stories of the whole series. I fell in love with it. The new TR is amazing as well. I like how it's about how she wanted to be an adventurer and explore.
CORE was the best. They were innovative and immersed you in lara's world, once crystal dynamics got involved Lara was never going to be the same. I loved Lara's selfish attitude towards plundering tombs, she was a thrill seeker not a daddys girl. Lara is a genius, why does she need two bumbling sidekicks? and why ZIP!? remember ZIP?! the guy in the van from tomb raider chronicles, yes the world cried out for more of Zip, anywho, this is an aggressive rant, i actually enjoy the game play of legend, anniversary and underworld, you can tell after dynamics made anniversary they realized how CORE were incredible at making level design and stole aspects from their games all the way down to those damn jumping spiders in TRII
Agreed! I beat #2 more than I can remember! Lol! CORE improved the game sooo much with different level design, diferrent outfits and new guns. Its my favorite game of all time!
yep same here. I beat it in 6 weeks. I love the theme music tons. Outfits were awesome, levels were great. Man, Lara can hold her breath (swimming from the crashed sub to the sunken ship) Totally love every level.

Nah, even though it was the first TR game I played and I love it very much, I have to agree with the minority here and say that the classics were the golden days for Tomb Raider!
The TR1 and TR2 intro made me cry. I really miss those times my mom aunt and uncle played those games too. We played together when they came over, but my uncle and I, as a little boy, had to play the thrilling parts because my mother and aunt would freak out. Still loves those games, but 1 and 2 are the only "special" ones for me.
I can't see Lara Croft being the second or third reboot. Original Lara Croft always was tough and sexy, just like Angelina in the movies. I like the reboots, but listening to the development of all these themes I somehow start picturing cristal dynamics Lara as Lara's softer daugther Sarah and the second reboot her granddaugther Lora. (of course this doesnt make sense at all, but imagining this still somehow works for me). New Lara designs trying to be all Lara Croft cannot live up to the awsome their mother or granny was :'D of cousre this is just personal taste & absolute nonsense.
My favourite is the TRI Main Theme.... :) ...when I am listening to it while driving through a beautiful landscape it brings tears to my eyes... its so EPIC!!!
Fuck dude, I love Tomb Raider IV. For me it's the best, most polished, most interestingly written, and most memorable Tomb Raider of the first 5. I love the other ones, but just because I'm a fan, it's just that The Last Revelation really left its mark on my memory, and the flyby menu and it's music are really memorable, capturing the majesty of the ancient Egypt, while at the same time capturing the epic, mysterious atmosphere of the game. Awesome
i agree, TR 4 was the most memorable game in TR series, was a real challenge, but worth it at the end, its gonna be always in my personal top 10 games, with his OST.

Am I the only one that spent ages figuring stuff out in every tomb raider game? Man the puzzles, doors, traps and the fact that you had no guide as in where to go made it that much more difficult. However, I loved every one bit of it. My childhood man just many flashbacks, so glad I play it to this date, although youtube is handy nowadays, not like that in the 90s and early 2000s :P
TR4 was the beginning of the end - but 1,2 & 3 were magic. Hard to believe it was 18 years ago when it all began....... If I had to play them all again I'd go with 3........

All these songs take me back to a different time in my childhood. I found Tomb Raider when I was ten, and in the following seven years to where I am now, I went through some tough stuff, which I battled by always stuffing my face in my PSP playing anniversary. This game has inspired me more than anything, and is one of the reasons I'm going to college in 2019 for video game concept art and animation. :) I absolutely love this series.
its like a time machine took me back to my teens....then journeyed through each year with fond remembrance of these adventures....then at 25:05 I was back in 2016....thankyou lara & thanks for the great moments in time....the themes get me everytime...nostalgic are my playing years 1996 - 2000
Phil Sadler Last Revelation was hard in a good manner : the enigmas were difficult to solve. TR3 on the contrary was all about physical difficulty : there was a danger at every corner of the game. Which, along the awful level design, made the game really, really awful. I believe they overdid it with TR3, and the game is responsible for the fall of the franchise. They should have made TR4 immediately after TR2.
Listening to these (especially the first 3) gives me such a wonderful but painful feeling... Like I can become that child I used to be.... my childhood comes so close it feels like I can just step back into it.... I'll be 8 years old again, ready to go on an adventure with Lara :) But then the songs finish and the spell is broken and I'm still 30:( but what great memories these songs bring back :) I'm sure all of you feel the same, who played these games as children :)
I played Tomb Raider since I was 4,5 and I play it to this day still,I just love the old classic ones,in my opinion they are the best and the stories are amazing but I also like the new modern ones,but this brings back so many great memories,and I love all the main themes in every Tomb RaiderI :)
Tomb Raider 2 is my favorite to this day. I've played and beat all Tomb Raider games numerous times, including the reboot, and the second one just never gets old.
It’s sad how much tomb raider has changed, I miss the old tomb raider... everything about it, the music and the way it is set out. You really have to think in the first tomb raider, climbing, time switches... it was an amazing game and they ruined it (I still love the newer games) Just like anniversary, they changed the controls and some of the places you can’t even recognise.
Oh and Tomb Raider AOD that theme is amazing as it was recorded by a real orchestra. If you listen closely you can hear the instruments move in the back round too.

Tomb Raider 1 was a masterpiece. An absolute masterpiece. Tomb Raider 2 I've found to be too combat heavy so far, but god I am hyped for 3, 4 and 5 which I downloaded along with 1 and 2 recently. If they're more like 1 and less like 2... Much hype.
Tomb Raider started my gaming life. I grew up with it and is still my favorite game of all. I was 5 when I picked it up. Called Lara "Lady shoot-gun" lol. SO much fun with this series
I just love the classic Tomb Raiders. My Fave 3 Themes, have to be Tomb Raider III Tomb Raider Anniversary/ Tomb Raider II I'm bummed Core Design, are over. But if Tomb Raider lives on in games, that's all that truly matters. Let's hope it has a bright and bigger future. I didn't mind Tomb Raider 2013, but it's wasn't the same feel as a Tomb Raider game, but non the less it was still a Lara Croft, Tomb Raider game.
my top 3 TR themes: 1.) TR Legends - this just screams girl power, archaeology, and survival 2.) TR2 - it makes me feel nostalgic, even more so than TR1 3.) TR3 - it's tough and mysterious
Its music throughout the old games which made walking into an area feel either tense, mysterious, or just awe inspiring and todays games DO NOT do that they way TR did, the game itself was slow paced until you came across something you had to shoot, it was a puzzler, a true adventure, you felt vulnerable of falling to your death, afraid that it you died somewhere you had to start from a checkpoint. It was tense to play games back in the day, but now my 23 year old self plays the new tomb raiders and realises that they're good but not even on hard difficulty do I feel tense, or immersed, as I'm playing down the sights of a bow and realised that Tomb raiders became a shooter more and fallen for the trap of games have to be easy now. I like the new TR.... but I love the originals. thank you for this amazing music :)
My father used to play tomb raider, and I always watched with him when I was 8. Thanks to my father I got to know Lara Croft. I played it myself when I was around 12, and I still do: I'm 18 now. I love these games so much, my favourite has to be TR4, because me and my father both played this one the most
Y’know, I recently came to a revelation regarding modern video games. Despite all the fancy tech and beautiful graphics, there’s one thing that they truly lack; atmosphere. Recently I began to play through the first Tomb Raider again for these first time in maybe 15 years, and just playing through the first level, I was honestly terrified, almost like I was that little boy sitting in front of my family’s old 20-odd-inch boob tube again. The music, the design, the slow paced platforming; it all felt, well, invigorating. It created an atmosphere; a throughline for me to get lost in the world they created, and a feeling of curiosity and anticipation I haven’t felt from a video game in years. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love many games from recent years, including the rebooted Tomb Raider games. But with all the drama surrounding Lara in the new games, I feel like they forgot the soul of the series. It was never about who Lara Croft was, or why she did what she did... sure, the old games touched on it, but where there they were a backdrop; merely something to expand her character, the newer games beat you over the fucking head with exposition and drama.
The new Tomb raider games feel like discount uncharted games with a green arrow clone as a protagonist, just wearing a lara croft skin. These games do not feel like tomb raider games at all. I loved Lara Croft from Tomb Raider 1 to underworld, even though I did not enjoy underworld and anniversary as Much as legend or the first 4. I cannot bring myself to appreciate the new rendition of lara in the reboot. Rise of the tomb raider isn't a bad game by any means, but Lara croft without dual pistols, acrobatics and her old personality, is like a jedi without a lightsaber or the force, or thor without mjolnir, or ash without pikachu. It just doesn't work and makes the character feel like it's missing something crucial.
Gosh I remember playing my first Tomb Raider (the Anniversary one) and I feel so nostalgic! Gosh when I hear the music I get chills and shivers down my spine! This is so epic!

TR4 was the beginning of the end - but 1,2 & 3 were magic. Hard to believe it was 18 years ago when it all began....... If I had to play them all again I'd go with 3........

Nearly 20 years and still beatiful.
All these songs take me back to a different time in my childhood. I found Tomb Raider when I was ten, and in the following seven years to where I am now, I went through some tough stuff, which I battled by always stuffing my face in my PSP playing anniversary. This game has inspired me more than anything, and is one of the reasons I'm going to college in 2019 for video game concept art and animation. :) I absolutely love this series.
its like a time machine took me back to my teens....then journeyed through each year with fond remembrance of these adventures....then at 25:05 I was back in 2016....thankyou lara & thanks for the great moments in time....the themes get me everytime...nostalgic are my playing years 1996 - 2000

The Last Revelation will always be my favourite :) I don't think it's hard though, Tomb Raider 3 is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard haha :)
Phil Sadler Last Revelation was hard in a good manner : the enigmas were difficult to solve. TR3 on the contrary was all about physical difficulty : there was a danger at every corner of the game. Which, along the awful level design, made the game really, really awful. I believe they overdid it with TR3, and the game is responsible for the fall of the franchise. They should have made TR4 immediately after TR2.
Listening to these (especially the first 3) gives me such a wonderful but painful feeling... Like I can become that child I used to be.... my childhood comes so close it feels like I can just step back into it.... I'll be 8 years old again, ready to go on an adventure with Lara :) But then the songs finish and the spell is broken and I'm still 30:( but what great memories these songs bring back :) I'm sure all of you feel the same, who played these games as children :)

I played Tomb Raider since I was 4,5 and I play it to this day still,I just love the old classic ones,in my opinion they are the best and the stories are amazing but I also like the new modern ones,but this brings back so many great memories,and I love all the main themes in every Tomb RaiderI :)

Tomb Raider 2 is my favorite to this day. I've played and beat all Tomb Raider games numerous times, including the reboot, and the second one just never gets old.
Still vivid! first time walk through the full game of Legend--almost cry and totally lost myself in the sound track.
This brings so many memories, holy crap.
Original theme is still the best to me even after all these games/years. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
I miss the old days of the original tomb raider...1-2-3 and 4 for me....thanks for posting these great themes....brought back some good memories......

They're all relatively good soundtracks but in my humble opinion,the two best ones here are the very first TR and Legend.

It’s sad how much tomb raider has changed, I miss the old tomb raider... everything about it, the music and the way it is set out. You really have to think in the first tomb raider, climbing, time switches... it was an amazing game and they ruined it (I still love the newer games)
Just like anniversary, they changed the controls and some of the places you can’t even recognise.
Tomb Raider 1, 2, Legend and Anniversary are the best themes in the Tomb Raider series. But my favorite is Tomb Raider 2 and Legend.
Oh and Tomb Raider AOD that theme is amazing as it was recorded by a real orchestra. If you listen closely you can hear the instruments move in the back round too.

Tomb Raider 1 was a masterpiece. An absolute masterpiece. Tomb Raider 2 I've found to be too combat heavy so far, but god I am hyped for 3, 4 and 5 which I downloaded along with 1 and 2 recently. If they're more like 1 and less like 2... Much hype.
Tomb Raider started my gaming life. I grew up with it and is still my favorite game of all. I was 5 when I picked it up. Called Lara "Lady shoot-gun" lol.

I'm bummed Core Design, are over. But if Tomb Raider lives on in games, that's all that truly matters. Let's hope it has a bright and bigger future. I didn't mind Tomb Raider 2013, but it's wasn't the same feel as a Tomb Raider game, but non the less it was still a Lara Croft, Tomb Raider game.

i used to play this as background music while studying.
Its music throughout the old games which made walking into an area feel either tense, mysterious, or just awe inspiring and todays games DO NOT do that they way TR did, the game itself was slow paced until you came across something you had to shoot, it was a puzzler, a true adventure, you felt vulnerable of falling to your death, afraid that it you died somewhere you had to start from a checkpoint. It was tense to play games back in the day, but now my 23 year old self plays the new tomb raiders and realises that they're good but not even on hard difficulty do I feel tense, or immersed, as I'm playing down the sights of a bow and realised that Tomb raiders became a shooter more and fallen for the trap of games have to be easy now. I like the new TR.... but I love the originals. thank you for this amazing music :)
My father used to play tomb raider, and I always watched with him when I was 8. Thanks to my father I got to know Lara Croft. I played it myself when I was around 12, and I still do: I'm 18 now. I love these games so much, my favourite has to be TR4, because me and my father both played this one the most
Y’know, I recently came to a revelation regarding modern video games. Despite all the fancy tech and beautiful graphics, there’s one thing that they truly lack; atmosphere. Recently I began to play through the first Tomb Raider again for these first time in maybe 15 years, and just playing through the first level, I was honestly terrified, almost like I was that little boy sitting in front of my family’s old 20-odd-inch boob tube again. The music, the design, the slow paced platforming; it all felt, well, invigorating. It created an atmosphere; a throughline for me to get lost in the world they created, and a feeling of curiosity and anticipation I haven’t felt from a video game in years. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love many games from recent years, including the rebooted Tomb Raider games. But with all the drama surrounding Lara in the new games, I feel like they forgot the soul of the series. It was never about who Lara Croft was, or why she did what she did... sure, the old games touched on it, but where there they were a backdrop; merely something to expand her character, the newer games beat you over the fucking head with exposition and drama.

The new Tomb raider games feel like discount uncharted games with a green arrow clone as a protagonist, just wearing a lara croft skin. These games do not feel like tomb raider games at all.
I loved Lara Croft from Tomb Raider 1 to underworld, even though I did not enjoy underworld and anniversary as Much as legend or the first 4.
I cannot bring myself to appreciate the new rendition of lara in the reboot. Rise of the tomb raider isn't a bad game by any means, but Lara croft without dual pistols, acrobatics and her old personality, is like a jedi without a lightsaber or the force, or thor without mjolnir, or ash without pikachu. It just doesn't work and makes the character feel like it's missing something crucial.
