I love mine, its my new edc. I work outdoors so it just makes sense to me. The little details on this knife is what's most impressive at its price point. I really like the way they thinned down the handle scale under the pocket clip to keep the overall thickness down.
@@francismartino6890 I use the 4” “medium luzon” as my EDC. The Large is definitely not federally legal for EDC. I live in California which happens to ironically have some of the most relaxed knife laws in the country. California in their infinite wisdom has no length limit on folding knives so you could EDC the 6” in CA if you wanted to. I have the 6” but the fact that it’s more than twice as wide as the medium makes carrying it a real pain. The blade is also so heavy that getting adequate grip on it with one hand is almost impossible.
Tip: I carry min on the inside of my jeans. Drops down and you can quickly pull it out. I saw a guy with a XL Espada inside his pants and I didn't even notice till he pulled it out.
I have both the 4” and the 6” and I love them. Also, the pivot resistance can be adjusted with a size 8 or 9 torx bit. You can also tighten the frame of the blade with size 7 torx as well, but they designed the frame screws to require tightening/looseneing from both ends simultaneously. This is definitely a challenge for someone who: 1. doesn’t have 2 separate torx sets or 2. doesn’t have a mounted vise grip. They come loose out of the factory both because they don’t want to over tighten them and so that most people can flip them open regardless of how strong they are. You can tighten them to the point where you can barely open them without lubricant if you want. I myself am quite strong so I tightened the pivot all the way and worked some WD-40 into the center of the action. The result was an incredibly stiff blade that flips open and STAYS open. Tightening the frame of the knife also adds to the rigidity and grip of the liner lock and the end result is something that actually feels as tough and durable as a fixed blade knife. This of course isn’t necessarily true since all the force on the blade from use is transferred to the sandwiched pivot, and by extension the 4 screws holding the frame together. A proper fixed blade will of course be able to withstand more than 4 times the force that these knives can. If I were looking into one of these for self defense, I’d strongly advise that you don’t attempt to laterally slash or swing at your assailant, and instead stab or contact cut. These knives are both not long enough for such an attack, and don’t offer enough grip for you to really be able to channel much force into the edge. This is especially true with the large Luzon. The blade is as heavy as that of a Ka-Bar, but all in all you have less than half the grip.
Just got mine today! Hey folks, if you think this knife is big on screen, WAIT till you actually see it!!! Well made and practically indestructible, the value of this baby is immeasurable! I'm a very happy camper...
This knife is definitely an attention grabbing self defense knife. I think I remember seeing Lynn Thompson talking about his large format folding knives with their big attention grabbing blades as being intentionally designed that way to get the attention of potential assailants and dissuading them from continuing their attack.
If you’re the kali type, this is totally made for that. Think of it as a stick. Funny how batons are illegal in Cali but knives like this are all good.
Even funnier is CA penal code section 17235 which states how there’s no length limit to folding knives in CA. CA knife laws are absolutely insane. In Texas, carrying this 6” knife would be illegal but in CA it’s perfectly fine lmao. The strictest gun laws, yet at the same time, the most lenient knife laws. Why CA legislation thinks it’s okay to concealed carry a folding katana that can disembowel someone with a single strike, yet thinks it’s unacceptable for someone to carry a .22 in their back pocket is something I have a hard time wrapping my head around.
@@balsalmalberto8086this is false. The person who you’re responding to is correct. Per California law- if it’s is concealable in its folded form the blade length does not matter. You cannot carry a fixed blade of this size, but since it’s folds it’s completely legal.
@@PeepersonCreedoI was referring to "Concealed knives" as in not identifiable as knifes are illegal at any size like a cane sword, shoe knife, pen knife.
@@balsalmalberto8086 ahh I see. The law doesn’t exactly agree with that definition of concealment so I was confused. That *should* be the definition of concealed, as you’re taking the additional step to make a weapon hidden- VS. just using a pocket knife as its designed function. The laws regarding “concealment” of pocket knives and fixed blades is a bit absurd. Once again, I imagine anyone with a bad intention would not listen to the rules regarding how long their blade can be 😅
Overall I think this is a Great knife! I live in L.A. and this knife will make a Great self defence knife. Just the size is an intimidating knife just the apperceive can save you. If you know like Kali or something and how fast you can flick the blade out just the sight of it bad guys will walk the other way. A couple of weeks I was at a strip mall and a bad guy tried to steal my day bag but I saw him coming and I turned my bag side away from and he could not get it. I wished I had one of these knives at that moment. Be aware of your surroundings and be careful. Take care.
I just got this knife in large, really good quality, the knife came paper cutting sharp unlike my last folder. I think it actually is possible to EDC it, if you have nothing else in your pocket and have a backpack/fanny pack/etc. for all your other EDC. It can open from drawing if you catch the corner of your pocket like the Espada XL. The leaf spring lock or whatever that secondary lock is called came tight af, so I had to use a flat head on the the lock to get it to work the first time, afterwards it just slides normally. It can reverse flick consistently using the middle finger on the fuller, but you kinda have to use a whipping motion while doing it.
I own a lot of Cold Steel from the top of the spectrum right down to the very bottom. At the very bottom I have the cold steel GI tanto, I looked at 1 in the store, at $25 I bought 5 and use them as throwing knives. The XL sword cane is my latest purchase as an example of a fine quality product by them. My best friend growing up had a katana made by them, by far the thickest Katana ever seen in my life but it was fucking solid. when having a blade on me is detrimental to the situation, I carry a Ka-Bar Big Brother and a gränsfors bruks swedish forest axe , for everything else... Theres cold steel. If im giving my two cents, I've seen negative reviews on gransfors Burks axes, I wish they hadn't but to be fair most all companies now have to have a cheap line of a product to stay a float. I own two Swedish forest axes (primarily designed for deliming fallen trees but for a "just in case" tool its size helps keep wieght low) these two axes had the exact same description in name, but 1 was mass-produced. They sell them at the big outlet stores like Cabela's and Bass Pro, I'd have to go and look but I'm pretty sure the mass-produced one doesn't have a maker's mark. The other one I bought which I will save my choice of about six of them at Lee Valley in the lower mainland of British Columbia, three of them stood out with edge indexing and grain alignment. and they were all made by someone with the mark of LP there was even a picture of this man making an axe at the forge in the booklet it came with. I'm going to find the cheap version of it and see what it says on it
I own this and love that it’s GRN scales due to the weight saved. I’d hate this if it were micarta. As it is, I love it. It’s my daily carry. I LOVE the clip. It’s comfortable and doesn’t damage my clothing. I carry inside the waist band

I bought it some time ago and i improved it alot with some self adhesive grip tape (for pc mouse). I put a strip along the spine of the fliper and along the locking button. It stay in place and make the opening alot easy and the locking alot easy, too.
I carry 5.5in Talwar. I use it as a tool. I use it at lunch as well for tomatoes and potatoes as well as cutting beef or chicken breast. I don't understand the knife is too big argument. Why carry a baby blade? 4in blade is a nice compromise but still not as effective as food prep tool. Oh well to each his own I guess

Mine takes a bit more force than I'd like to flip the blade out. I keep it at my desk, being a little paranoid it makes me feel better, so I need it to be ready if needed. Is there any way to help that or do I just need to get used to it?
I like the look of the Luzon but liner lock are just not reliable over time ,good looking knife and I own it but it would be great if Cold Steel re-design the lock or find a way to make it like the Ti Lite liner , then it will be a great Big Knife and worth even more money.
When you engage the secondary lock it can't be closed because it basically holds the liner lock in place so well it doesn't budge at all. I feel comfortable with it. It's my edc because it's legal in my state as long as you don't carry it anywhere you can't carry a gun.
The liner wears away with time until it no longer locks up properly and I have never seen a knife from Cold Steel with an adjustable liner lock. This is best used as a self defense blade rather than as an edc cutting tool.
I use the medium as my EDC. I have yet to find a knife that flips as well, strong detent, nice action. I'll carry the large every once in a while for kicks. Strangely, the lock on mine is a lot stiffer than yours, I can't slide it by usage it requires some convincing.
Dude. The slider thing is a backup to the liner lock. And it looks like you just need to tighten up those screws to make it disengage less easily. Some people are just haters.
The geometry of the knife blade and handle itself is awesome i like it much much more than the Espada XL but aside from looking bwtter its drawbacks are pretty clear, a version with a s35vn blade, better body screws and a frame lock would have me singing a very very different tune though.
I’ve loved cold steel the moment I watched them chop a piece of meat shoved in a cowboy boot clear in half with a two handed great sword marketed as a self defence option.
I just ordered the Luzon medium and would love the large! Most of the knives reviewed on this channel are just expensive box openers and I absolutely hate spyderco knives. If you are going to carry a knife, carry a DAMN KNIFE!!!
😎DREMEL: Secure the safety lock in the locked position and file or use a Dremel to reduce the grip ridges lower so the lock doesn't switch off so easily.
My first flipper over $30. Seems to be a good deal, and the menacing blade will keep attackers at arms length. I would never harm someone but it’s a deterent. I live in a dangerous city and guns are highly illegal where I live.
If you live in LA or any part of CA: CA Penal Code Section 17235 states that: - ALL folding knives are completely legal, no matter how long they are (and yes as ridiculous as it is, a 2 foot folding katana would technically be legal for concealed carry) - a knife is considered a folding knife if the opening action is biased AGAINST opening the blade (just like this one). More specifically, the blade may not be spring loaded, or assisted by any force that is not exerted by the user. gravity knives (including butterfly knives) are not considered folding knives - if a knife IS spring loaded or biased towards opening, the blade length limit is 2 inches (this applies to switchblades, box cutters, and gravity knives) In summary, CA legislation when it comes to regular folding knives or swords is practically nonexistent. As long as it folds, and is a blade, you can carry whatever the hell you want. If you want to custom make a 3 foot folding katana that has a collapsible grip and can literally cut someone in half with a single strike, it’s perfectly fine to carry it even in a concealed manner. Welcome to CA everyone!
Might not be able to depend on the lock in what way "self defense?". LOL. But my knives are tools not looked at in self defense and I don't baton folding knives. Hmmm?
Luzon, after the city in the Phillipines. {Thanks to my girlfriend for that information.) I like the city and I like the knife. I wish the pocket clip could be switched to the left side, but oh well. I just clip it to my left pocket and open it in a reverse grip with the flipper or let gravity do the job with a downward flick. The hump on the back of the blade can also be used to "wave" it out of your pocket.
U know lotta knive makers complain about ppl being hard on their knives and i gotta agree because if u gotta force the knife and put a ton of muscle on it, u gotta use something else or u hurt yourself eventually
So I uh, ended up getting one of these (the Large). Cold Steel feels like what happens when a Mall Ninja actually knows how to make a quality product with good engineering but cannot ever shake the crazy off.
I bought the medium and it came in terrible shape :/ You have to press so hard on the flipper tab it seriously hurts really bad, I can only open it like 3 times before giving up and setting it down. It also makes it completely unable to be waved out of my pocket. The blade centering was also atrocious and even disengaging the liner lock hurts really badly and can’t be done with one hand. Overall very bummed out about it because I was very excited for it to arrive. Just a painful experience physically and emotionally lol :/
For $37 on Amazon I just could not pass this one up. Just bought one based on your review. I love collecting regular EDC knives and have maybe 40 "regular size" folders including Spydercos and Kershaws to higher end Chris Reeves and Reates. But for some reason I just can't pass up on some of these enormous Cold Steel knives. I bought the XL Voyager Clip Point and Rajah II last month as well. No I never plan on getting into any knife fights.-- But these huge knifes are fun. Especially at a $37 price point.
Luzon (/luːˈzɒn/, loo-ZON; Tagalog pronunciation: [luˈson]) is the largest and most populous island in the Philippines. Located in the northern portion of the Philippines archipelago, it is the economic and political center of the nation, being home to the country's capital city, Manila, as well as Quezon City, the country's most populous city. With a population of 64 million as of 2021,[3] it contains 52.5% of the country's total population and is the 4th most populous island in the world.[4] It is the 15th largest island in the world by land area. Luzon may also refer to one of the three primary island groups in the country. In this usage, it includes the Luzon Mainland, the Batanes and Babuyan groups of islands to the north, Polillo Islands to the east, and the outlying islands of Catanduanes, Marinduque and Mindoro, among others, to the south.[5] The islands of Masbate, Palawan and Romblon are also included, although these three are sometimes grouped with another of the island groups, the Visayas.
The medium version is what I have. Works perfect for most everything I need for. Also is light weight and pocket Carry is great. The blade is sharp and non-, serrated, one of the best reasons I bought it for. Although, I have others serrated. The bigger version seems too big for my use. And it wouldn't fit in pocket, probably would need a sheath for it, but still looks great. Medium knife handle is perfect in my opinion. Get the smaller version for everyday comfortable carry.
If you tried prying or driving a screw with it or chiseled something hard with it that could happen. It won’t hold up and perform like a large heavy full tang knife.
This knife carries well. I also carry a Talwar XL and the Luzon is less intrusive in my daily activities. Great value and by NO means too large for edc unless someone is just scared or intimidated by a large blade. I use mine to cut chicken and steak at work and a smaller blade is a nuisance when cutting 1/2 lb of chicken breast or steak. Sad when a knife is too small to cut through a home grown tomato with a straight cut. I'm also not a small individual so if you are of shorter stature and weight say under 100lbs maybe you should carry a tiny knife. Don't buy fast cars either just get an accord or Camry big or fast cars aren't practical to drive everyday. LOL
Yea I don't want to take mine outside because I know they will just take it away 😔 I've lost many of my favorite blades over the years to the good ole police. My own fault I guess, boys in blue gotta do their job, and when I was younger I walked around like the joker , so It makes sense lol
Lynn Thompson might be a mad genius who just makes fun and crazy knives but they are quality, gotta give Cold Steel credit. Not just novelty.
👍

My first flipper over $30. Seems to be a good deal, and the menacing blade will keep attackers at arms length. I would never harm someone but it’s a deterent. I live in a dangerous city and guns are highly illegal where I live.
If you live in LA or any part of CA:
CA Penal Code Section 17235 states that:
- ALL folding knives are completely legal, no matter how long they are (and yes as ridiculous as it is, a 2 foot folding katana would technically be legal for concealed carry)
- a knife is considered a folding knife if the opening action is biased AGAINST opening the blade (just like this one). More specifically, the blade may not be spring loaded, or assisted by any force that is not exerted by the user. gravity knives (including butterfly knives) are not considered folding knives
- if a knife IS spring loaded or biased towards opening, the blade length limit is 2 inches (this applies to switchblades, box cutters, and gravity knives)
In summary, CA legislation when it comes to regular folding knives or swords is practically nonexistent.
Hmmm?
Seen a clip with a russian guy.. he was doing everything with it.. chopping wood... etc etc... it held up really well.... 😎
Nice!
@@metal_complex im expecting mine any day now!!.. cant wait!!.. 😎
Luzon, after the city in the Phillipines. {Thanks to my girlfriend for that information.)
I like the city and I like the knife.
I've EDC'd a Voyager XL tanto for years.
This is one (of 4) knives I EDC....yes everyday lol I carry this knife and it’s really not bad
So I uh, ended up getting one of these (the Large). Cold Steel feels like what happens when a Mall Ninja actually knows how to make a quality product with good engineering but cannot ever shake the crazy off.
Nice sized knife !! Love it.
Thanks because you i bought it and I love it I have the large
This knife is so snappy and fun. Amazing action!
"Im not going to talk about the main purpose this knife was made for"
ok, guy.
Blew up your links yesterday for Christmas gifts 😅
Great!! Thanks!
I bought the medium and it came in terrible shape :/
You have to press so hard on the flipper tab it seriously hurts really bad, I can only open it like 3 times before giving up and setting it down.
Or you can flick it open and engage the lock
@@bab2thebone1
The one I received can’t be flicked open.
It can barely be opened in any way imaginable.
The Rajah 2, is a much better knife for camp work. The Luzon, is a self defense knife.
It is always nice to handle my own knife when TH-camr show same knife on reviw
I wanna see an espada large and XL review
Theres bearings in there... thats why its ezy to deploy and enclose... 😎
generic "now that's a KNOIFE" joke
Idk man this looks like a legitimate 6-inch bowie buck style folder
Great video quality! Others could definitely take notes!
Mall Ninja Pocket Sword (MNPS). Yes that is a knife, but when I get to the why I can only come up with conversion piece or MNPS.
PMSL! Nice review.
I have 2 of these and like them.
Too bad, already bought one for Tactical EDC knife ;) I think it will fit in my pocket better then the Rajah 2 :)
I carry Large Luzon everyday, fits good in my pocket, ( Duluth Pants) .
You must wear Calvin Klein 😂
I feel ashamed. I live in Metro Manila, located in Luzon. Will pick up a Luzon 6in this month 🤣
belt clip ?try it
Except it's still a 13.5" knife. A belt clip doesn't really fix that.
Good EDC knife good price for a 6 in blade
Had my large Luzon for a week the tip broke off first Cold Steel that has ever happened.
If you tried prying or driving a screw with it or chiseled something hard with it that could happen. It won’t hold up and perform like a large heavy full tang knife.
@@xaverbishop6506 it was brand new I have over 20 cold steel knifes never happened before and I abuse my blades.
I popped the top off a bic lighter i have done many with my tylites and many different voyagers.
@@travisconrad5035it's 8cr13mov no tougher than a kitchen knife if you want to do heavy duty tasks buy a heavy duty tool
Times change...I've got a Recon Tanto & 2 SRK's stamped Carbon 5 "Made in USA" Yes- they ARE very old!😂😂😂
GFN = Glass Filled Nylon
LOL
This doesn’t happen much but this folder is 6.29cm over the legal limit (to carry and to own)
Yea I don't want to take mine outside because I know they will just take it away 😔 I've lost many of my favorite blades over the years to the good ole police. My own fault I guess, boys in blue gotta do their job, and when I was younger I walked around like the joker , so It makes sense lol
Luzon for freeee🌱
So big that it took me time to get used to it.
If I ever have to go to India and actually face down a reticulated python this will be my knife I take with me.
So that’s Lynn Thompson? Man, he needs to lose some weight! No point having a tough knife if you’re a gut bucket.
I didn't no that someones weight would affect the quality of a knife 🤔you must be a real smart guy
Only nine inches?. Thats what she said. 😎
Can’t it just be cool to collect and play with?
Nice 👍
This is more of a fighting knife than a utility knife.
I bet everyone who bought it fights with it 😉
I just baught it
You cannot recommend it ... but your video is about 30 min on it 😂
It's a Bad Ass.
Just grabbed one to edc
