After the assault Guts clings to his sword as an anchor of security. The sword becomes his faithful companion, and his one reliable ally. It saves him from the wolves, and it puts food in his belly.
once i saw your review of the first 3 volumes, i was like "hm, if she's starting it, i may as well read it too." so, i read it, and, i got about 7 volumes in before going "okay, i should probably watch her review of the first 3 volumes now." and now, it's barely been long, and i'm over twenty volumes in lmao. this story is super addicting!
It's soooo addicting! I had to stop halfway through the third book to film my thoughts on the second book because I couldn't stop! If I wasn't filming these videos I'd probably binge it too!!! It's so good!
Berserk is definitely my favorite manga of all time. Man you are in for a treat with the amazing art, characters, themes, emotions, etc. It just keeps getting better and better
I just finished Berserk a few days ago and it’s hands down my favorite manga of all time. I know it sounds weird at this point but Berserk is such a wholesome manga in its core. I haven’t watched the video yet but I just needed to share my love for it. :D
I'm loving it! the set up is is good, I can't stop! I just bought three more volumes but I'm going to try and pace myself or I'm going to end up buying the entire series in a week hahaha
@@booksandtropes Haha, I did the shameful poor student's method and read it online, but the artwork alone is worth the physical copy. There are so many great panels and I've never seen comic horror portrayed better in a manga. I'm really glad that you get to experience it in the best way possible, but at least I know what I'll be getting with my first pay. xD Pacing yourself is also the smarter choice. I'm really thankful they're finishing Miura's legacy, but the wait is already unbearable. xD I'm really excited to see your reactions to the next volumes :D
Seeing Guts youth was really heartbreaking, but seeing him bond with the band members is just so heartwarming. The ambivalence between those cute moments and the horror of their world is just so well done. I only have one major criticism of Berserk, but I don't want to go into it now for fear of spoiling you :D
The Golden Age Arc is what most people associate with Berserk as it's the arc that was covered in the original 80s anime (with an iconic OST btw) and is probably the most "reader friendly" (for Berserk standards) as the Black Swordman Arc was still in an experimental state and the arcs following the Golden Age Arc heavily rely on it and while great (and in some cases subjectively better) require most readers to take a few breaks between chapters to processes what happens.
I knew you would love Berserk! And if you are already enjoying it that much then by the time you are done with it it's going to become one of your all time favourite stories, I just know it! Enjoy!
There is a reason one piece and berserk are my top 1 manga. You named casca right once or twice, the right way to say it is with both c's as k. The beginning is like casket, just instead of et its a in the end Have you listened to the "blood and guts" ost of the 2016 anime? Say what you want about the anime (its bad) but the soundtracks they used are insanely good. So "blood and guts" and "my brother" are giving me chills
From someone that knows about Berzerker and only read like 8 chapters and dropped it, the start of the series is very rough, when the first chapter has the MC having sex with a woman that becomes a monster that the MC then kills with an arm cannon, I could not take anything after that with any degree of seriousness, the series may well be a masterpiece, but holy hell does the start is bad.
@@imatiuI know people say this, and most of the time it’s a stupid argument, but I can guarantee that wasn’t just their for shock factor if u keep reading. It not only ties into the themes of trauma (with how guts doesn’t like to be touched expect because his put on his blacksowmam persona he doesn’t even care anymore), but also gives guts even more nuance without spoilers I can’t really say tho but it involves him suppressing his past of his loved ones to focus on only revenge. I’d reccomend to read the golden age arc first (end of vol 3 to vol 14 ish) then blackwwoman, as it makes the parallels between guts and Griffith actually stand out, ext.
@@scottgimple8107 I know all the spoilers basically, that still doesn't change the fact that my first proper impression of Berzerker is the edgiest shit ever and even knowing how there is a reason for it, that first impression will forever be what comes to mind when thinking of the series. For some people that might not be an issue, but to me, if I read a manga series I have to get something from it, it has to make me laugh sincerelly or it has to make me care for something or someone pretty early on or I just can't get into it, and Berzerker just didn't do that. That isn't really an issue with the series at large, it's just an issue with how the author presented the introduction of his series, but first impressions can make or break a series.
Something need to be noticed that egg thing on Griffith's neck was the Crimson Behelit (red/maroon colored), while the Behelit from the previous arc was grey or rocky/stony coloured. So this was a special fetish
I hadn't realized they were different. I knew Griffith's was a crimson one but didn't consider the fact the other one was a different version thank you!
Berserk is excellent in the sense that they manage to create a perfect parallel between Guts and Griffith. Someone can probably write a whole book about the dynamic between these two extraordinary characters.
Fun fact: Guts wears all black to blend in to his surroundings since he is always attacked at night and fights all night And he has always used a bigger sword when using it as a child and got used to swinging it around to he scales it up throughout the story. Also, interesting you pointed out they called him a wild dog. He is in a sense and you’ll see it later.
@@aemeth5418 With the world it's set in looking very similar to medieval Europe (Also the names of characters) and occasionally what would be the Ottoman Empire during that time period I would assume it wouldn't be the Japanese version.

Berserk is one of the few series out there where the protagonist ends up being one of the best things about it.
Watching someone experiencing Berserk for the first time is always so fun!
