I can tell from my experience, you are absolutely right. Memorizing lists of words is a buzzkill. Regular practice in a context is the way to go. And practicing pronounciation improves the listening skills automatically. And yes, I was also sometimes caught up in learning words that I don’t even know in my native language, a lot of whatchamacallits.

The horrible ways to study english for me is watching film. My friends said that, if you would study english, the alternative ways is watching film and hear song in english. Absolutely, watching film not works for me because I just focused into the story, not to the vocab. Than, i found the best way to accelerate my vocabulary by reading text that really interest for me in bilingual paragraph. So I made that text by my self, writing something that i love then I transform it to bilingual in paragraph. This strategy really helpful than i should to watch film 😅

Movies are different. They have different genres, topics, pronunciation, dialects... Yes, most of them are useless for learning and they take much time.

I think one of the worst way to understand english is watching tv series because the contractions they use make me so confused and frustrated.

Another horrible idea: learning phrasal verbs alphabetically, like: look up, down, for, forward…

Tragic accidents-perhaps with dire consequences-may occur because we are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"I have seen something further under the sun, that the swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all" (Bible, Ecclesiastes, chapter 9, verse 11).
Overnight, our life may change completely. One day we are healthy, the next day we may be seriously ill. One day our secular job seems stable, the next day we are unemployed. Without warning, death can strike a loved one.

I invite you to the West Bank to visit the families of the martyrs who were killed by the occupying Israeli army. Will you respond to the invitation?
