    Evelyn Adams was the first person in American history to ever win multiple million-dollar prizes. Basically overnight, she went from working in a convenience store to being worth more than some CEOs. With her newfound wealth, Adams paid off bills, set up a college fund for her daughter, bought a car, and lavished friends and family with gifts. You’d think a story like this would come with a happily ever after finale, but you’d be very wrong.

    This Is a great video, I’ve thought the same exact thing, applied it to my life and have found it works wonderfully. A big portion of what’s helped me is to accomplish goals, in my hobbies, career, learning, and daily goals I can set and accomplish. Feeling a since of accomplishment in our life’s is very important.

      I agree. I’ve struggled for two years on and off ever since I left my parents house at 18. As of recently, I lost everything. My car, my job, my place to live. I’m legit homeless and I wonder everyday when the struggle will end. It would be fun to have all this money and live in the lap of luxury, but I don’t need all that to be happy. I just want to have the basics, you know? A decent nice car, a place of my own, some clothes and shoes I can feel good in, food, my medicine, and that’s about it. I want to experience as much as I can in life because I feel like that’s where true happiness comes from, not materialistic things. But at the end of the day, if you don’t have money, you won’t be happy struggling.

    Evelyn Adams did exactly what you're suggesting to be the take home of the video, and it sent her to rock bottom. The take away from the stories of lottery winners ruining their own life is: "Fiscal responsibility should come first," and not some cop-out advise of "Lmao, human relationships are the greatest happiness." If you don't have an active income, then you're on a timer until you're back at zero. Giving away money should then be viewed as selling someone else the time you have left of being financially free.

    Helping someone, especially financially, tends to lead to that relationship with that someone to deteriorate.

    • @ZealousWins
      @ZealousWins 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I feel like labeling helping others out as a means by which relationships deteriorate as a whole sounds a tad pessimistic. To me, it depends on what kind of help you give, and sometimes how often it comes. If the help is not in that of obtaining some physical possession, but rather in something more inter/interpersonal (i.e. helping someone sort their thoughts out), the relationship with that individual should see improvement.
      Otherwise, I agree with the financial aspect; unless you both are careful, finances can be a game-changer.

    • @prajwalvishwanath4072
      @prajwalvishwanath4072 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I'd say this is more of a caveat... The unfortunate fact is, there's people out there who live off of others, and don't have enough self-respect to stop doing so. Helping these people financially will undoubtedly lead to the situation you described. However, giving to those who will not take undue advantage of your generosity will always raise the overall level of happiness and prosperity of both parties, in my opinion.

Money doesn't directly give me more happiness, but I have never been happier in my life because if my car brokes I can go and buy a new one, if I get sick and I have to stay home for a while I can afford it, I can go on holidays to better places and even visit my family back in my country, so money definitely changed my life for the better and that has made me way happier than I've ever been.

Money can be not wondering how you’re going to feed your family/afford an emergency. Money can be control of your time. Money can be providing real change to people unable to provide it for themselves.

    It's like the law of diminishing marginal utility. With each acquired unit of the same product, the marginal utility keeps decreasing, until it reaches zero, and then goes in the negative. Total utility keeps increasing, but at an increasingly decreasing rate.

    1. $75k in 2010 is equivalent to $102k in 2022. 2. There is no ceiling to the pleasure derived by the income, but there are diminishing returns. Making $200k won't make you twice as happy as $100k, maybe 5, 10, 20% happier, who knows, but it's not double. This continues infinitely. 3. Happiness is heavily correlated with the progressive realization of a goal. If you make $100k and your goal is to make $200k, the labor of attempting to achieve this goal will provide happiness, but if you just settle at $100k and sit around watching television, you'll probably be miserable.

    I dont think you hit the nail excactly on the head here. I get all of your points. Doing stuff with friends is great and giving is great, but your friends and loved ones have their own lives and work hours so u cant just drag them along on fun activities all the time, and giving is good but it is not something that you can do all the time. I think that would be a little weird for your friends, felling like they are being bought. Instead i think you should do something that is more routinebased that u base your day around. Id say, start a small bussines about something you love that can run without losing money so that it is sustainable. Surround yourself with good colleagues, this will both give you purpose and pleasure. And then top it of with the things you said in the video. But i will say my tip here is more realistic. no offence. and this is coming from a guy who inherited a lot of money.

    The more one has the more one has to maintain. A lot of things maybe and entertainment, but they tend to malfunction and break down even if you don’t use them. My idea is that money really can’t buy happiness, it at most can give one a measure of independence, liberty to things that are right, like helping someone else when they have a problem, help with no strings attached. Right now in our modern USA , money, even if you have a reasonable amount can’t buy a sense of security for middle class people- the high cost of medical care and old age services are sky rocketing. So I guess it’s time to use money wisely and make the most of those things that one enjoys that really don’t cost very much at all. Enjoy life’s moments : laughing, music, simple food and drinks , exercise, fresh air, nature , good company, good books , good movies with redeemable value , love. The KISS rule is a good way to start. Every second is a goner.

    I agree with you mostly. Especially on the last point, when you give you feel a lot more happier than being given to. Also buying purpose I agree with but even with these it's the money spent that actually makes you happy it's the actual actions, the actual purpose all of which can be free, so I don't completely disagree but this is my view personally. ⬇️
    Money is not the root of all evil, that's taken out of context. Whether its "the love of money is the root of all evil." What it means to love money is not like money, there's nothing wrong with liking money. It's when you put money on a pedestal, make it your "god" that it becomes evil because you'll do anything for the money. That even if you donate you're only willing to sacrifice a little bit of money, you do everything you can even if that means another person's death because you didn't donate enough, to have some extra money and that's not including money for survival. Also btw thank you for being so patient with me, one other point. "Money can't buy happiness." Is true, stop trying to outsmart them, your ego is just making yourself look more dumb. Yes money can buy a homeless person food which ends their suffering or a cure to someones disease. However even with that what happens when the homeless person gets use to eating food, what happens when the person with the disease gets use to being healthy? Like the old man in squid game said, I'm not gonna looks several minutes to find the exact words but his message was he got rich and he tried out all the fun things money could buy like private jets, cruises and crap but after a while he got bored, you could say that's just him but look at Robert William's, you think specifically that money he had would've prevented his suicide? Billie Eilish who even when she was blowing up was still depressed her "happier than ever" album was not because she got a lot of money. Even with your dream, "all of that fame don't last." Plus what brings you "happiness" from your dream is not the money you spent on it, it's the dream initiating that spark in you, it's you putting in the hard work, it's you achieving that dream after all that hard work, it's you enjoying what you're doing with your life. Not the money you spend on it? Money can buy PLEASURE not HAPPINESS, two very different things. Yes we need dopamine to some sence I agree that dopamine detox is good, I tried it out for myself and it is what made me a lot happier but it's not about totally eliminating dopamine but rather eliminating the sources you get it from. Instead of getting dopamine from binge eating, social media scrolling, porn, drugs, masterbaring, you get it as a reward when you complete something. That's why anti depressants are not very useful, doctors are not gonna tell you this for whatever reason but they only give you dopamine but you feel it for no reason and again dopamine in the wrong sence is only pleasure. This is why I simply defualt with money can only buy temporary happiness, like dopamine in the wrong sence but what brings true happiness is purpose
