      Yes, I am going to rewatch as well - a lot of inspiration and ideas. I appreciate that names are usually on screen as well, but with enough if a delay that I can still quiz myself.

    Jim,
    I love your videos not just because they are wonderful to watch, but because you take the time to share the botanical names in writing while you generously inform us on each plants pro and con aspects. Love it when you say deer and rabbits don't tend to eat them.

    I love when no sooner does the question pop in my head during your video, that you answer it. When you showed the gaura, I was thinking how badly my has flopped after blooming. I wondered if I should cut it bac... BOOM... you answered my question.

    Wow! All the goals. What I like most is, to me, what seems to be a definite focus of is it good for the pollinators? - then plant it. It looks so random and lovely and natural. I am getting fatigued of all the overdesigned gardens with “recipe” plantings. Most fun are those things which pop up wherever they care to. Lots of people might tear those out because they don’t “fit the design plan” - but I say let it be. The plant knows better than I do where it wants to be. Thanks for sharing this amazing garden.

  • @cece_marie

    That really was magical! So many textures, gorgeous rock raised beds. Loved hearing all the happy birds and seeing the pollinators. I've noticed in the garden center that the bees are wild for the catmint (Nepeta). At home, my oregano is always covered by bees, just bouncing around on the long stems. 🐝
    You and your camera person really have a good eye for composition. And I've noticed that your camera person has really improved in just a few weeks (it was good from the start, for sure) with filming not only a moving person but moving plants, while they are often moving, all while minding the composition. Very nice, it only enhances the excellent content. Looking forward to the interview!

    I added blue African basil to my garden this year because you have said they can't resist it. I also have coreopsis, bee balm, stokesia, liatris, blackeyed susan, lots of herbs, lots of salvias and other perennials and annuals they are supposed to like, but about the only thing that has attracted their attention is my Vitex tree. It is truly worrisome that there are not many around. I haven't seen many butterflies or hummingbirds either.

    Jim - love seeing this border every year. I notice that all of these plants seem very tightly planted in most places, similar to the JC Raulston perennial border. Does Denny follow "recommended spacing" and these plants have all matured to their max size, or are these tightly planted beds and it's a survival of the fittest situation? Would love it if you could do a discussion about how to get that packed border effect.

    • @zoewhite7705
      @zoewhite7705 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats how herbaceous borders have always been planted here in England, it wasn't until I started watching American gardening videos on youtube that I saw another style of planting with plants more widely spaced ad the gaps covered in woodchip. I love how youtube gives you a window into gardens in other countries! I do think I still prefer the closer planting though, it just looks so full and exuberant. Plus cuts down on weeding and watering, and you don't need to put lots of woodchip down to fill the spaces.

Didn’t do it this year. I was just curious if he ever uses any kind of pesticide on them? I also got a bare root of that redbud with all the colors but it hasn’t put any leaves on yet?! Any tips? 9:00 redbud (the one that you said you also have in your garden) … that is a very interesting plant. Aside from the leaf shape, it looks nothing like the western redbud in my yard. This looks like a large pillar of leaves, but my western redbud’s branches remind me of twisted hazel with the way they twist and turn, and it’s not nearly so full of leaves. Is that redbud in the video pruned in any way?
