asking the IRS how much you owe is like asking a dog if he wants steak
Good analogy
Pretty much
Right!
You read that on social media and decided it was gospel. Do your taxes and fix the problem
Boy you assume a lot@@chrisjumps5501
Dave refering to the IRS as the KGB was spot on
No it's not, pay your bills
The IRS may as well be the peace corps compared to local county tax offices, who will not hesitate to double charge people and then gaslight them when they ask for their money back.
Either you have an mistakenly positive view of the KGB, or a mistakenly negative view of the IRS if you think the comparison is anything more than hyperbole.
Instead of comparing the IRS to the KGB, why not just file and pay the tax? This is the law. If you don't want to follow the American laws, you are free to move to Russia and deal with the KGB.
the KGB HAS A FILE ON ME. NOT A GOOD THING. there is no comparison between the KGB and the IRS.
America is quickly becoming exactly what we gained independence from all those years ago.
A bunch of drunk soccer hooligans?
I love how you Americans claim you gained independence when the reality is you were simply booted out.
And nobody has the stones to do a damn thing about it. It’s maddening.
We're far past that. The Boston tea party happened over far less of a tax than we pay today.
The penalty for failure to file is double the penalty for failure to pay. You should always file your taxes even if you can't pay.
Just one clarification, IRS debt is definitely NOT a higher interest rate than credit card debt. The IRS rate is defined as the federal short term rate plus 3%. So for example, right now it's about 8%
could it be the penalties and late fees that push the overall percentage higher than credit cards?
@@landgsmith No because those are one time penalties that apply up front to the amount owed.
I actually had a tax problem and was able to work directly with the IRS and negotiate a lower amount and a payment schedule.
Well done - most taxpayers don't realize that 99% of them never need to hire a so-called "tax relief" company.
Dave is spot on with the Offer in Compromise. It is basically a liquidation plan for any assets you have. We all hate taxes, but they are a necessary evil. Play by the rules and you’ll be ok.
Zelenskiy thanks you for your contribution
Zelenskiy thanks you for your contribution
The IRS is not a necessary evil, it is just evil.
There is an obscene amount of money going to Ukraine
@@SEANPOL203 The total aid given to Ukraine up to this point is less than a tenth of 1% of the current national debt. Pull your head out of the partisan hole you have it buried in for one second and realize that aid to Ukraine is not even close to the biggest problem with the US finances
Jade: "contact the IRS"
Dave: "Nope"
Jade: "something shady"
Dave: "Nope it's an OIC"
Yes, sometimes her mouth gets ahead of reality. When Gradpa Dave is there, she needs to slow her roll, although the subject is shady tax fixers
Well shes not a tax expert so calm down.................
@@MrJimmy3459 neither is Dave Ramsey but he has helped many
Thanks, Dave! I agree with most of what you said. Here are a few things i dont agree with: 1) Actually, there are instances where you can get tax debt thrown out via a discharge in bankruptcy. 2) And, you don't have to necessarily be a pauper to get an offer in compromise (OIC) approved.
I do not understand how people never pay their taxes. Just withhold the money, even if it makes no interest. This way you clear the government and the rest of the money is yours.
because the money is right there and isnt automatically withheld like a W2 is. People think theyll worry about it at tax time then get surprised by the amount and dont have it.
@@TopShot501st So people are doing things under the table or as independent contractors?
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 people who have tax problems generally are.
A lot of times it’s self employed people not setting money aside to pay taxes.
That only works if you are a traditional employee. It's different if you are self employed, run a business, or are an independent contractor. You have to remember to set the money aside yourself.
And one wonders why they should pay while others get relief .🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
You know it bad when Dave Ramsey says that you should get INTO credit card debt to get out of IRS debt!
Capital One can't have you jailed for not paying them.
Caesar always gets his dues 💰
The house always wins
On one side, I'd like everyone to have to write a check for taxes so how much they are paying hurts...on the other hand, I know that many, many people just wouldn't pay. Being a business owner, I pay quarterly estimated taxes....which has only deepened my hatred for the level of taxation.
Good that you are not a W2 employee. You'll sweat blood and breathe fire if you saw your at-source deduction
You are correct! The system is purposely set up so that people don’t see how much they pay in taxes. It’s only when someone starts their own business do they get a reality check. Paycheck withholding, property tax, corporate taxes, labor “insurance” taxes, fuel taxes, etc are all hidden from the average citizen. If they knew how much they ACTUALLY pay in taxes, there would be an immediate revolution! The colonies revolted over a 3% tea tax. 😂
I own two businesses and I didn’t know for a whole year that YOU can pick the quarterly amount. My CPA made it sound like the IRS picked the amount. He said people would rather have money given back to them at the end of the year vs not having any money given back to them. The problem with that was I was paying a ridiculous 25% on any money I made and sending it in quarterly. I was basically giving the government a interest free loan. Do yourself a favor and only pay 15%. You’ll get less during tax season but you’ll have more money year around to invest
IRS:CI special agent here: unfortunately he’s spot on about every he said.
I respect the necessary service you provide to the nation.
Not your fault that Congress makes stupid spending choices
Wow! Never heard Dave recommend putting something on CC as a last resort but I agree if you have no other options.
This is why you proactively put money away quarterly and just make the payments. If you're using your tax money to operate the business, your business isn't successful. Or, your using the money for non-business related activities which means embezzlement or you're just purely irresponsible with money overall. Budget the money away proactively and if you made more than expected, you just pay the difference.
The number of small businesses that choose to not pay quarterlies and instead prefer to pay penalties is absurdly high. Like, if you are already in a low margin business, why would you choose to light some of your money on fire just for funsies? The worst part is many don't even know they are doing it because they refuse to read their own tax return, and most tax prep people are too lazy to mention it
They will have to pay a penalty for filing late
If Mafia, Yakuza, and Drug Cartel had a baby = IRS
Amazing what Dave knows compared to other hosts
Yeah - the fact that he has been doing this show for over 30 years and the others haven't is very clear.
Depending on the amount of taxes owed and the complexity of the tax return, you may want to consider an Enrolled Agent (EA). Both a CPA and an EA can do your taxes and represent you before the IRS. The difference is that a CPA is akin to a General Practitioner, whereas the EA is a Specialist. Taxes are all they do. Likewise, there are CPAs with a focus on taxes, so you need to do your homework.
Why did you write out EA, but not CPA? It is always good practice to write out any abbreviation before you use them as abbreviations.
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 Hmmm, I guess it is because I haven't opened my Harbrace Handbook in about forty years. Figured that "CPA" is a widely known and used term in today's nomenclature and that "EA" is not. I forgot that I was dealing with Ramsey's Koolaid Drinkers and that I needed to define every word. Thanks for reminding me.
@@lkj0822g Yes. You might as well be consistent with your writing. No. Not EVERYONE is going to know what you are referring to.
For instance, am I going to be okay with "Figured that." Where is the subject?
You see what I mean. Someone that has good written American English skills is going to be like "Where the hell did he learn to write like that?"
Oh...some anti Koolaid non U.S. citizen wrote that and thought that every U.S. citizen should know what he meant.
You always write like the other person is a layman or else YOU become the layman.

Credit Card debit is a lesser of the two evils!! I had my wages garnished once upon a time it sucks! Big time! And it’s a pain to undo!
moral of the story people...DON'T F**** WITH THE IRS!!!
Many Big Tax Relief Companies are powered by boiler-room commissioned salespeople. Best to deal directly with the IRS or with either: An Attorney. CPA or Enrolled Agent. All IRS tax debt has a key - the "10 year rule", which is key to any IRS tax relief program. There is also more than 1 way to resolve tax debt instead of Maxing out credit cards
Da Nile is not just a river in Egypt 😂😂😂😂
Pay your taxes and the problem goes away.
Some people that own their own businesses sometimes dont pay taxes..
IRS sent us a notice 2 years after we filed our taxes saying we owed over 12k. I ended up writing a letter telling the IRS that I genuinely thought we filed our taxes correctly. They came down about 2k on what we owed. Not much, but it was something. We paid it off with a capital one credit card that had 0 % for 18 months. Paid our taxes off and the credit card bill, and then we closed the card. Good luck caller
That sounds like a fake story you would have to amend your taxes to see if any mistakes were made, why would the IRS give you a discount if you "felt" you wrote them correctly 😂
Current administration says it is increasing oic approvals.
This exact reason is one of the only things I like about living in the UK, your wages are automatically deducted of taxes and National insurance unless your self employed and you don’t have to worry about a massive bill hitting you
That's the way it works here, too - taxes are automatically withdrawn. The problem comes when you don't file and you owe more than they took.
@jimroscovius we don't have to file any taxes, you only do if your self employed here its taken out od every paycheck
@Murderliesandeverythinginbetwn And that's how most people here get into trouble. They don't pay their self-employment tax. I'm an independent contractor, but I have taxes withheld so I don't have that issue.
What happens if your government takes more than you owe? How do you get a refund without filing?
@jimroscovius they do internal audits every few years and they send you a cheque if you've overpaid. It doesnt happen very often though becuase they normally don't get it wrong
Anything is better than living in the USA. Your system is much better than theirs.
The IRS needs to go away.
That's not going to happen.
I replayed this, just to hear Dave say to use a credit card.
No! If you have bad credit then the interest on the credit card is much higher than the 8% the irs is currently charging
I still have yet to see even one of these companies in business for a decade or longer
Not Snuggies! 😂😂😂😂
So what if i tried to file my taxes and they won't accept it
Dave Ramsey advocates credit card debt. I never thought I'd live to see the day.
Cant pay off debt in jail
The IRS can garnish wages and take your retirement accounts.... So.... Yeah. 😅
It's not about credit card debt. It's about moving the same debt to a less risky situation. The IRS will hunt you down. The credit card companies won't.
Even cc debt is better than IRS debt.
@@jasonleatherwood2172 You could, if they would allow it. Are you not paying for your crimes (debt to society) in jail? How much time = money? There you go.

I called one of these company's 11 12 years ago because I owed the IRS close to 12k and the state close to 3k, The guy i spoke to said flat out, you cannot afford me but I will tell you what to do. call the IRS and ask them for all the records they have and then file. work with the IRS on a payment plan. Best thing that ever happened. took 30 mouths to pay back. yes I eat beans and rice and rice and beans. do what ever it takes to get out of debt. and stay out of debt. life is wonderful when you are not giving some one else your money.
Glad to hear you didn't fall victim to the tax relief companies!
My life is in a mess. If I call the IRS to get on a payment plan. I’m curious if the IRS will still come after me if I sell my house. Will they take my money off the top or will the payment plan still be in place? Asking for a friend :-/
It depends, since there are ways to navigate around that situation.
>before Christmas
Uh oh
I disagree about the OIC. It's not as hard as Dave says and you don't need to necessarily be a homeless pauper. But he is correct, you can't just request an OIC because it's a lot of money or it's an inconvenience or will set you back financially. And most importantly, you better not have any toys and think you'll get an OIC. Example... if you have a motorcycle, you'll reduce your chances. And rightfully so. I mean, I pay my taxes.

Do you have to file income tax if you and your spouse only collect social and it only 33126.00
I’m not sure about SS, but the amount doesn’t matter. Two years ago I was paid only $25 k from my workplace and yes I had to file. I also had to file when I only had a part time job during school that couldn’t pay me because apparently the government can force a university to not pay staff. I think I made like $200 bucks all year and that had to get filed too…

When you owe money to the IRS, that would probably be the one thing Dave would let you borrow money to pay off.
Full payment is not always the most favorable resolution. IRS payment plans and other resolutions can be a better option depending on the taxpayer's situation.
Then these businesses owe taxes for years.

The interest is not higher then credit card. They are 8% and below.
It is a give and take. Government has lower interest, but they can garnish wages. Private companies can collect on it, but their interest is like 29.99%. The worst I think a private can do is lien and sue.
