I actually think The Office worked so well because it didn't try to emulate the British one - it had its own identity and story lines and an American team who knew what their audiences would want combined with Gervais & Merchant helping out. Best of both worlds.
Worth $20 no way ! If that was regular what did the Wee portion look like ? When you took the ketchup, tartare and coleslaw off the plate there was little left ! A total rip off, as you say a really hungry fish !! I do realize the prices in the USA as my son lives in Los Angeles, thankfully our food is far heathier and still much cheaper than American junk even though our food has gone up.
Lee I am glad you went to The pub. I did say in my comment when you asked to nomionate a place to go and it got good reviews. You have to accept the prices are not UK prices but even here the price has gone through the roof. The fish & Chips looked very good for the USA and in appearence (looked as they should be). Glad you enjoyed the experience.
Love your comment and your honesty. Firstly, as an English guy living in America, I feel $20 is pretty steep! As you say, the chips are fairly sparse. The underneath of the fish looked a tad fatty. If ever you’re in Charleston, South Carolina anytime, look up The Cod Father - really good traditional fish and chips. The large is almost twice the size of the one you’re eating, plus they serve excellent mushy peas!
1st of all congratulations lee.100.000 subs.youve got that through your open and gritty honesty .well deserved buddy..carry on the grt work and fab vlogs..am totally hooked mate..WHAT A PROPER NICE GUY
Hi Lee, my comments are that I agree with you that the fish looked good, but I agree with your feedback and my rating would only be 7/10 though. A mark off for lack of chips, a mark off for lack of traditional mushy peas or curry sauce because coleslaw is not traditional with fish and chips. Then a another mark off for the price. I agree in the UK that in major cities, you have the optional gratuity charge, but I would never pay that at a standard fish & chip restaurant over here. Plus now with the poor exchange rate, the menu prices are looking higher than the UK, then you have the tax and tip on top.
I completely agree with you in identifying what's wrong with the meal (and on the 'optional' gratuity charges pushed back home). I went 7.5 to 8, as I couldn't decide. I felt it's the best looking fish and chips he's had in the US (baring the since closed chippy he went to last year in Florida), I liked what they've tried to do with the place, and that there's quite a few British drinks choices (although, there could've been more). Decor looked decent, albeit not exactly 'traditional' British. Have a good day. 👍
I personally love skin on the chips. Gives them more flavor, and texture. Just my personal opinion. Looked like great fish and chips. Great video, as always.
Funny you mentioned Inbetweeners, Lee, as that's exactly what I was thinking... and you said it as it came to my head. I cannot think of one show that's made the transition to America and been decent. I watched about 10 seconds of the Office USA, and as soon as I saw a fist-pump (or whatever they're called) and heard the word "cool" or "dude", I promptly switched it off, so never gave it the chance. Shameless, Inbetweeners, Fawlty Towers (called 'Payne' in the USA, and lasting 9 episodes), I just can't think of one that I've liked the US remake of - and found it irritating that they feel the need to remake it. I'm not generally a fan of U.S. series', but with that said, 'Better Call Saul' is probably the greatest US series I've ever seen (and 'The Sopranos'). Both are absolutely brilliant.
My sister. My family emigrated here in 1983, but she returned to the UK after a couple of years. She prefers the UK! Congratulations on the 100k. You must be buzzing!
Congrats on 100k. Enjoyed this today. Like the way you are honest and v down to earth in terms of what families with kids have to pay. Have a gd day! 😊
As an English guy who has lived in California for the last 20 years, its rare to find a really good Fish n Chips. I was brought up in London on Toff's, Seashells, Faulkner's so know what I'm talking about. By far the best in the US I have had is THE CODFATHER in Henderson, Las Vegas...owned by Glynn Bramall, of Sheffield. He's cooked for all the major rock stars on tour, but has now settled in NV, and I couldn't fault him (and I'm REALLY fussy!). Batter was brittle, haddock meat second to none, chips werer bang on correct.
Pretty sure we have attempted our version of Taskmaster. I don't know what we screw up because I watch all the versions from the OG to NZ to Aus and find them all hysterical.
Glad you reverted to being a good British lad and took my advice and 'went to the pub'....looks like you were qute pleased too. As for what British Comedy didn't transfer well, Life on Mars. No humour. "....What's a pudenda boss?"...."You are, Chris, you are!"
Morning Lee. I think you’re absolutely 100% spot on with your review if this video. It is really expensive if you go with a family of 4. And as I’ve said on your vlogs in the past, I absolutely hate service charges with a passion. They make me really angry to be honest. Im always happy to leave a tip if the service is great, but on my terms, not the establishments. If I ever went to the US I’d turn into Victor Meldrew whenever I’d see the bills🤣😂. I just don’t agree with them. As for the fish and chips, they looked pretty decent to be fair. I don’t like Tartare sauce or coleslaw but the fish and chips alone I think deserve the 8/10 you gave it. Looked really nice and definitely better than you had in your previous videos in New York. Thanks for sharing buddy👍👍
'urry up 'arry, we're all goin' down the pub! Creature comforts always found at home.. as the famous munchkin land film line.. 'there's no place like home!'
They attempted to make Only Fools and Horses with John Leguizamo playing the Delboy role and even Christopher Lloyd as Grandad. They made a pilot but the studio rejected it and that was that.
If you ever get back to Florida then take a drive over to Melbourne and take a visit to Archie's British Pub. As an Englishman who lives here they are the best I've tasted in the US.
Lee you need to come to Buffalo NY… we have some of the best fish frys in the US in my opinion! Every Friday up here all the bars, pubs and restaurants serve fish and chips, beer battered haddock, chips, cole slaw. Anyway what you are eating looks pretty good. I haven’t been to that particular restaurant when I’ve been in Orlando but I’ve been to that wonderworks with my family and the area up the road with the Ferris wheel, it’s fun area to be sure!
I thought the pub looked great and somewhere I would visit, though they had TVs on the wall so maybe they show sport which would put me off a bit. I thought the fish and chips looked lovely albeit a fairly small portion with few chips when the condiments were removed. If this was the large option on the menu, the small option must be minute. It's a shame there were no peas, that would have bumped my score up a bit, but I sort of agree with your score. I think it went over the lady's head when you said the fish had eaten most of the chips. Ha! I do remember you visiting the British run chip shop in Florida last year and how good it was but it's a shame it's no longer there. Enjoyed the video. Oh and congtratulations on reaching 100,000 subs, well done.
Thanks allot for your videos on US foods. Being from the Midwest US, I would not know the difference between British Chips and our various kinds of American Potatoes. Yes, French Fries are very greasy here in the US and I also try to stay away from them myself in my older years. Fish is Fish to me no matter how it is cooked. Haddock is one of my favorite types of fish and being grown up on the Mississippi River in Illinois, Catfish is another favorite of mine. I have had fish cooked all different ways as long as they are not smothered in grease. Note: In the US when we talk or ask about Chips with a meal, we usually think of very crunchy "hard thin Potato Chips" if asked for it in a normal everyday restaurant. I was surprised when you were back home and had Fish and chips, they look more like our French Fries and are an actual potato and not a hard thin crispy potato chip. Probably would never get to go overseas to Britian or Scotland now, but would love to try your Fish and Chips and actually see what you are talking about. In summary, I am like you, it is what we grew up on and what we are used to. Going to foreign countries is always an adventure on how foods are cooked and taste. Also being In the Air Force I got to try many of the foods in the Hawaii, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, and Viet Nam and it was some very unique and some weird tasting foods. Do you have over in Britian, This is the best American food Restaurants????? Take care.
Thank you. Basically the whole of Britain has been taken over by American chains now Wing Stop. Wendy's Popeyes TGI Fridays. Starbucks. It's like an American State. 😊
@@TheMacMaster Ah!!! Yes, American culture restaurants do try to take over other Countries, especially in the larger cities. The ones you just named I call them Fast Food Places. You need to try some of the US Family owned Restaurants away from the big cities which I normally go to. Ramsy goes to far overboard with his style of cooking and some of the Chefs try to learn his styles. Take care and enjoy your stay in the US.
Hey Lee, I have been watching your videos since you visited James May's pub and I really enjoy them. Your editing is exceptional. Congrats on 100k! You earned another subscriber. P.S. Combustion rules. 😛
I must try that place the next time I'm through Orlando. On your following visit to Florida try Barley Republic in St Augustine. On another note, you moan about your meal being $28 yet, you offer a coffee mug for $18.
Excellent review with a really good summary. First rate - tasty, small portion of fries, plate fillers, coleslaw (so American!) and very expensive. For a family with three kids (without the beer and even without the tip) that’s over 80 quid. I live in America and can’t wait for my trip to Britain for a month in Spring to get some respite from the profiteering going on here. Outrageous pricing!
Well done! Congratulations for a 100K Lee. Long overdue. As far as the fish… based on appearance, a lot better can be found in the New England area. It’s a long stretch that the best fish and chips can be found is in Florida. Kind of like saying that the best southern grits can be found in Maine. Great video 👍🏻
I am loving the videos as always. Looks a nice place and the fish looked delicious, would have liked a lot more chips myself. I have now started asking my local chippy to take the skin off the fish since watching the videos.
Hi Lee Nice one Very good fish and chips for the USA,when I visit my English friends on the west coast of Florida, there’s a restaurant in Venice Florida named “The British Open “ always authentic fish and chips it seems the Florida places are better many more expats living and English visitors Again congratulations
Ahhh fish and chips PUB style!!!! This has a very wide base of standards in the UK, let alone in the USA!!!! The Inbetweeners didn....... never mind you just said it lol!!!! Oh, Shameless!!!! That didn't work in the USA! Oh they have an upside down house in Magluf called Kathmandu!!!! It's a very good day out!!! That self service bar looks really good! Great idea! Saw one similar in Tenerife years ago that had 1 pump at each table, and it worked like a petrol pump, clocking up, then you paid for your spend at the end of your drinking session! They even had a glass swiller at each table! I wonder why they say grab the BASE of the handle though?! Cheese "Boll***s" haha love it! Don't love the price though for cheese bites lol! Aren't sliders meant to be small and cheap?! Not small and €6.50 each?! 😬 And being from Wales, I have to ask: What the hell has 'Welsh Dip' got to do with Wales?! 😆 Their Shepard's pie has beef in it because........? PUB SPRING ROLLS?! WTF?! Ok, I'll stop now lmao!!!! At least they have Strongbow 😉 By 'win the awards', were they judged without payment or gifts, as a LOT of awards in a LOT of types of industry are just basically bought 🫤 Well it looks 10x better than GR did, and it was the right order! Not sure about coleslaw though 🫤 For pub chips, they look excellent! Batter looks and sounds good, I'd say portioned well tbf. They are chips, but they aren't chippy chips! Can't hold that against them though as they are going for a pub style! I mean, not bad, especially for the USA version compared to others! The 'slaw' and ketchup...... odd, but overall with everything in, I'd go an 8.7/10 which is excellent for a recreation of a whole pub and food from the UK!!! Oh yeh, agree about skin on chips lol. OH WAIT!!!!! PRICE!!!!! Blimey!!!! Ok, deffo losing points there, I'm going to go 6.9!!! That's mental!!! £28.50 for that!!!!!! You're having a laughhhhhhhhh mate!!!!! 😆
Congratulations on achieving 100.000 subscribers. Absolutely well deserved. I thought that the American version of series "Shameless", was terrible. I watched a few episodes and couldn't carry on watching it.
Agree with your score but price wise they'll only charge what the mainly tourist market will bear and it isn't a great foreign exchange rate at present. Hope you enjoyed your second pint 🍺
True, and the entire cast was wonderful plus a large number of spinoff shows resulted. However, I figure that about a quarter of Archie Bunker's fans never realized that the show was satire.
Funny how times change, been visiting the USA since 1989, food was always larger portions than and more reasonably priced in the USA than UK now the other way round. Chips looked good but for the price to few. Great editing as always..
They tried an American version of the Royle Family, I don’t think it worked well. But one Americans loved and couldn’t get enough of….Are you being served.
Looked nice mate. Family of 4 all having fish n chips would be a ton easily (40 plus 32 plus drinks). That's a bit eye watering. Still it's Orlando and a tourist destination so everything is bumped up.
Shameless in the US lasted one series I believe, and having watched a couple of episodes I'd say it was a word for word copy of the UK original which was fantastic . Of course it wouldn't work in US because of the typical gritty northern British humour. Setting it in middle class America instead of downbeat west Gorton Manchester wouldn't help either. The fish & chips looked like typical chain pub efforts, the beer looked like homogenised kegged version of the real thing, but I suppose it'd have to be to travel across the pond. No sign of any hand pulls either, surely a British pub necessity even if just for decoration (we've just refurbished & shipped a set to california for a ale fans man cave!)
Lee I tell you what . They need a better dishwasher. When bubbles stick to a glass it means it's dirty. Loads of pubs are guilty of this. Does my stack in. Great vlog.👍
Totally agree with you Lee and it’s not exactly a Wetherspoon either. Maybe if Tim Martin is watching he could take over that pub 😂 have a great holiday in Portugal Obrigado!!
Dad's Army was transferred to the States and was called Rear Guard.... Never made it past the pilot episode.... To be honest I don't know why they tried, it's such an iconic British show with quintessential British characters that couldn't be copied or replaced.
congrats on 100,000 subscribers, we went a few years ago to the pub as it said on the sign the best fish n chips in florida i think, it's each to their own but for us personally it was very poor, we thought the fish had been frozen and as you say very expensive. but we did go back last June and the happy hour for drinks was very good!!
Fantastic lee !👍💖😀 love the look of the restaurant and the menu is a polished english menu .well done . Yummo looks sooooo soooo good .it a 9 id want more fish lol My answer to the question what flops in America is jamie oliver ..lol 🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺👍💖 im sure McDonald's won't be giving him a gold card .
Alright Lee...if you've still got some spare time go check out rock & brews in Orlando. Really nice place kind of like a hard rock cafe but in my opinion food is a lot better. Also miller's is always a family favourite for a relatively cheap meal....the mozzarella planks and chicken wings are superb :)
If you are going to Portugal this year, would be great if you went there later on to film. I live there, and it is definitely cheaper and there are great family owned restaurants. Love your channel, watch it every day. Stay safe😎👍🥂😊😊
If you ever, in all your travels, make it to Calgary (the one in Canada, not the one on Mull), you GOTTA try "The British Chippy". I'd wager you'd agree that they're the best fish and chips in Canada and the best outside of Manchester :)
If in Orlando go to nearby Clermont, the Clermont Fish House has fish and chips to rival any in the UK. There, I said it. I am a Brit, and picky about my fish and chips and this place is the real deal!
Lee, the plate fillers your on the money with that!!!
Basket for chips are another pet hate, fill the plate with food!
We noticed in Sept 2022, that prices were insane, especially on IDrive.

I love skin on - all a matter of taste - and it’s the most nutritious part of the fish. Each to their own.
Lee has done a excerlent job with this vlog.
Love reading 📚 your comments they are very informative.
I can honestly say in Scotland I have never visited a chippy up here that has left the skin on, maybe an English thing.
Thank you the reply.
100k subscribers....awesome achievement, Lee - well done!!
Thank you. 😎
Hi Lee Nice one Very good fish and chips for the USA,when I visit my English friends on the west coast of Florida, there’s a restaurant in Venice Florida named “The British Open “ always authentic fish and chips it seems the Florida places are better many more expats living and English visitors Again congratulations
" Double Diamond Works Wonders " another memory for you. Vinegar 1st, so the salt sticks. Excellent Review. So Enjoyable.
At least they have Strongbow 😉
By 'win the awards', were they judged without payment or gifts, as a LOT of awards in a LOT of types of industry are just basically bought 🫤 Well it looks 10x better than GR did, and it was the right order!
Congratulations on reaching 100,000 subscribers. The fish and chips definitely needs mushy peas to be classed as British.
Apparently Americans are allergic to them, which is the only explanation I have for it. They’re perfectly happy to eat refried beans though!
@@PotatoPirate123 This American is definitely not a fan of Peas, mushy or otherwise and yes, I do love Refried Beans, then again I do live in Texas.
@@cameraman655 Isn't frying the beans once not enough so they have to be fried again?
Curry sauce and normal petite pois for Moi!
@@ChillToMusic87 these are dried out so last a lifetime. Brilliant in store cupboard.
I'll comment later the MacMaster....Richard Vobes has posted a new video...he's taking Britain by storm!!!!!!!!
Bald explorer? His other stuff any good
I watch him. Very good.
The Florida Chippy you visited last time nailed it. 100k subs n a fish supper 👍
CONGRATULATIONS ON THE 100,000
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Eye watering price for fish n chips.
Glad when I visit the USA in May on a cruise ship that meals are all available on the ship.
Yes not mouth watering though is it ?. Regular cod and chips eat in about £18 on Southsea pier Portsmouth. Disgusting and disgraceful
Tipping in the usa has gone crazy and so expensive these day enjoy florida x
You were spot on with the review $30 and the plate is for food. 8 was fair. 👍🏻
-BBC ghosts
-Top gear (2nd attempt now)
-Faulty towers (Amanda's) Bea Arthur
Please tell me they didn't attempt to do Ghosts.
Lee nice video very expensive as you said. Lots of people are looking for a inexpensive holiday today as things have gone sky high 👍
Nice made me hungry again Lee ,looks like a old whitbread pub ! Little john from chichester
The sitcom All in the Family was from England produced by Norman Lear was one of the greatest tv shows ever.
The US version of Shameless was diabolical!
I agree but didn't that run for longer than the UK version?
Nice One Pal 💯.Did,t Think Harp Was Still Around🤔.Not Much Pubs Sell That Anymore Over Here ☹.
😜 Hope you're well Dave. 👍🏼
Gratz on 100k bro
Try watching friends with the canned laughter removed...its a bit strange.
It's on TH-cam somewhere.
Good video Lee.
Great video Lee! What camera do you use? It's class
iPhone 14 Pro Max. :0)
nice one lee made my day watching this
No Mushy Peas or Curry Sauce? Great video again mate and congrats to 100k subs.
congrats on 100,000 subscribers, we went a few years ago to the pub as it said on the sign the best fish n chips in florida i think, it's each to their own but for us personally it was very poor, we thought the fish had been frozen and as you say very expensive. but we did go back last June and the happy hour for drinks was very good!!
Fantastic lee !👍💖😀 love the look of the restaurant and the menu is a polished english menu .well done .
Yummo looks sooooo soooo good .it a 9 id want more fish lol
My answer to the question what flops in America is jamie oliver ..lol 🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺👍💖 im sure McDonald's won't be giving him a gold card .
1:12:36 just enjoyed your fish and chips video. I was so relieved to see malt vinegar!
Congrats 100.000
If you ever, in all your travels, make it to Calgary (the one in Canada, not the one on Mull), you GOTTA try "The British Chippy". I'd wager you'd agree that they're the best fish and chips in Canada and the best outside of Manchester :)
Congratulations on 100k subscribers
Congrats on the 100k subs Lee
If in Orlando go to nearby Clermont, the Clermont Fish House has fish and chips to rival any in the UK. There, I said it. I am a Brit, and picky about my fish and chips and this place is the real deal!
