It has its benefits. The metal plate has a heat sink effect and it is more durable. It also gives you the option to affect the angle of your rear wheels.
I really like ur videos, I heard of ur channel while watching a video where u had donated a new pair of duratrax tires to the guy making the video, that was real cool of u to do. Thanks for the cool videos they help out a newbie like myself
I knew u were gonna use the odd nut on the screw sticking out cuz when I was watching I kept thinking that's where it would go I would've put it there also
I know what you mean but that's youtube. Doesn't matter how good your vid is or what you show. There will always be some who complains. All you can do is make your vid as good as you can and hope for the best lol.
I highly advise you to get the Steel VXL Turnbuckles and Front/Rear Camberlinks for it. Each pair is rather cheap but it's just a great upgrade since the plastic links on the XL-5 break rather easily. After that, get some Bearings to replace the bushings. Those two things should push your Rustler at a good condition. At some point down the line, aluminum Steering blocks and axle carriers will help along with RPM caster blocks.
Thanks for the advice. I have until early march to get it as "kidproof" as possible. Ill order up the links and turnbuckles tomorrow. My sc10 runs all lundsford titaniums.
I have bought my first RC car in 25 years. I want to build it and the one part I have is the frame part ? That part where everything attaches to . And I have one verry good servo I'm told ? I have one traxxas remote . . If eneybody wants to sell me some parts to get me going I be willing to work with you . I like to ask b4 I go to the shop eneyways. Great video and I appreciate the time it's great information
Are those high speed bearings in the transmission? I want to rebuild my transmission. And there is no kit . But high speed bearings are $8.00 each and $2.99 for a pack of two standard bearings.
im watching this over and over again while waiting for mine to arrive..LOL..its time to clean up and re-lub those diff gear too..the 3 degree will have great impact on cornering..
The heatsink I use is traxxas part 3822. You have to file it down in order for it to fit a velineon motor. However if you have a brushed motor you don't have to file it.
Do you think there's enough room to install traxxas heavy duty driveshafts (6852x) after installing the rpm gearbox? My 2wd Rustler has the rpm gearbox plus the steel vxl turnbuckles and I've noticed that there's not much clearance between the driveshaft and the inner camber link mount. I've seen this done with no issues with the stock gearbox, I'm just wondering if it'll work with the rpm gearbox.
it is not too long. just that the stock screw is a big flat head. Previously the case is plastic, so the screw is kind of groved into the plastic..now with metal motor plate, the screw head is quite thick and it is almost flush with the spur..i change it to button head with washer..the alu shock caps was cool..im now poison with aluminium parts..LOL..the cvds just arrived too..
If you had this to do all over what would you start with first? I bought a used...like new xl5 for my son. He has not got it yet. I have all ready ordered a rpm bumper, front and rear a-arms and im putting aluminum shock caps. So id like to put another 40 bucks or so in it before i givie it to him for his birthday any help is much appreciated
finally i found it in Ace Hardware..Lucas white lithium grease in tube cost around USD5..one more question, what screws do u use for the motor? I just install the RPM gear box yesterady and i found the stock motor flat head screw is very near to both the pinion and spur gear..
Wat type of heatsink and where did u get it from I'm looking for a heatsink that will fit on my slash 2wd without me having to trim anything off of the transmission case awesome rustler BTW and awesome videos
hey buddy I just ordered one of these for my Traxxas rustler that I am building and that looks pretty damn awesome demon is a badass bro you got one of the best looking whips on TH-cam man you do great things and my good friend always the big thumbs up I thought I have been a long-time subscriber Why TH-cam has not been treating me so good here lately so I'm going to subscribe you can check me out on my channel if you would like to and I remember when you painted this body shell it looks excellent man you did great work big thumbs up bro
Thank you for replying I'm a big fan of you and your videos. I'm going to get the black one for reasons, and my rustler is for speed 85 mph it goes with a castle 5700kv motor in it, and I would love to have to toe for an opinion.
Well though out statement! And while I film the thing ill look for some parts that I might have that you could have for you rustler/slash and mini erevo.
+Stealth Nasty99 The grease works as a cushion, temperature control, and lubricant for the teeth. It provides protection from wear and tear. It really doesn't mess with the speed performance. Without the grease the teeth with wear down much faster.
+darkeclipticheart Do you know, what might of caused it to over time slow down. I've the slipper clutch, checked the tires if they to tight on the hex and could rotate properly. If you are busy trust don't worry about it though.
I just install this gear box on my rustler....and I had the right size NUTS...lolls they added that big RPM sticker because they knew they put a wrong size nut loll...because I had only 2 small stickers...but great video....I think they should have added all the screws, because I was looking at the paper like WTF is this lolls.
One thing I can think of is those black pieces where the rear arms attach to sometimes break on the stock making you have to replace the whole gearbox half where as with this you can just replace the black bit
I own two rustler two 4x4 stampede two erevo two emax two trx6 one regular and one snap-on hauler two trx4 Blazer two scx10 two hpi spirit two clod buster two tl01 and three speed pioneer and two 1/16 erevo

Thanks for the vid. It was very helpful.
I just installed the same gearbox on my rustler. Couldn't have done it without this vid.
I know what you mean but that's youtube. Doesn't matter how good your vid is or what you show. There will always be some who complains. All you can do is make your vid as good as you can and hope for the best lol.
Happy to know it helped!

So far I have no complaints. In fact I like it a lot.
Believe me the weight difference is definitely an upgrade.

Stock bearings are fine for 2.99. Most bearings the same on the rustler.
im watching this over and over again while waiting for mine to arrive..LOL..its time to clean up and re-lub those diff gear too..the 3 degree will have great impact on cornering..

Electrical tape is recommended. However with the RPM Gearbox you don't have to since it doesn't have that hole.
Thanks so much for publishing this video

I've seen this done with no issues with the stock gearbox, I'm just wondering if it'll work with the rpm gearbox.
how did you learn to do all this stuff?
on you rustler you should put the big rpm sticker on the clear part of you body :) awesome video man

I know it’s very late on this video do your remember where you got the colored wire mesh from
Yes they should fit in there fine. The measurement is 5x11x4mm part number 5116
a trick: watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies during the lockdown.
@Gregory Daniel yup, I've been watching on Flixzone for since december myself =)
Great vid mine just cane in the mail today and this vid saved me from reading alot lol thanks.
finally i found it in Ace Hardware..Lucas white lithium grease in tube cost around USD5..one more question, what screws do u use for the motor? I just install the RPM gear box yesterady and i found the stock motor flat head screw is very near to both the pinion and spur gear..
Correct number. Now no one can complain :D
You can use white lithium in a spray can but it'll be messy.
i just wanted to say thanks you help me fix my rustler vxl
Glad to have helped
Hey! I just got that gearbox. But, I can slide my slipper shaft in and out a little..... But it doesn't affect performance. You're thoughts?
I feel you on taking the transmission apart I forgot a washer and had to take everything apart for one washer. Ill have to make a video eventually.
Wat type of heatsink and where did u get it from I'm looking for a heatsink that will fit on my slash 2wd without me having to trim anything off of the transmission case awesome rustler BTW and awesome videos
It helped me put my new rpm gearbox in
Thanks for the offer man but I have plenty of bumpers and decals. Thanks anyways.
Can you use 3 in 1 oil for the transmission? Or do you have to use a certain grease.
Only thing I was looking for Is with this case can you still put the wheelie bar on
Can u just put a piece of electrical tape on the bottom of the transmission? Or do you have to use the heavy duty tape from the hobby store
how do you like the hybrid so far?
Sounds awesome either way
Awesome. Let me know when you post it!
i really like that wire mesh, do you think you could ask gio where he got it?
That one screw sticking out ?? Throw a nut on it ? Just for looks ? Great job
When are we going to start seeing videos for Blaze ? ( The mini-T )
I have too much stuff laying around and quite frankly I would like to get rid off it. Would you be interested?
Your updates are awesome ! Can you let me know the results after a few time driving (racing) with this gearbox pls?
Thanks !
hey buddy I just ordered one of these for my Traxxas rustler that I am building and that looks pretty damn awesome demon is a badass bro you got one of the best looking whips on TH-cam man you do great things and my good friend always the big thumbs up I thought I have been a long-time subscriber Why TH-cam has not been treating me so good here lately so I'm going to subscribe you can check me out on my channel if you would like to and I remember when you painted this body shell it looks excellent man you did great work big thumbs up bro
will the bearings fit where the bushings are? Once of course the bushing is removed
DIdnt you say that you were going to get a Castle motor and esc for Demon?
Hi. Do you know if this gearbox works with the bandit vxl? Do you recomend it? Thanks
Yes it does work with the Bandit VXL & XL-5 and I HIGHLY recommend it!
This video made the install fun.
I also got the gearbox and it was missing 4 of the screws i needed but rpm is still a great product
I use fishing reel grease on my rc transmission gears it stays on better 😁👍
is spray white lithium as good as tube whilte lithium as in my country i coudlnt find any tube whilte lithium and it only comes in big tub (500g).
lol I want a break from doing transmissions for a while. Doing this one and the bandits in a row was annoying.
get the spool locker!... thrn, u can mess with the driveshafts for a while... thats what im doing! :)) half the fun is working on them!
If the screw is to long you can just file/cut it down.
When I get it. It still hasn't been mailed to me yet. As far as I know.
Thank you for replying I'm a big fan of you and your videos. I'm going to get the black one for reasons, and my rustler is for speed 85 mph it goes with a castle 5700kv motor in it, and I would love to have to toe for an opinion.
Thanks a million!
I'd like to send you a part for Nexheus and/or Deamon, but I need to know where you live.
Well though out statement! And while I film the thing ill look for some parts that I might have that you could have for you rustler/slash and mini erevo.
I finally did this just minutes ago. The screw sticking out does not really bother me as much though hahaha..
I have a bumper originally red but spray painted gold. Also some decals
Looking good
I just rebuilt my diffs. But tell me why when I turn one wheel the other wheel turns the same way? shouldn't they turn opposite way?
Because you got fresh grease in your diff which makes it spin like you said after time it will loosen up
lol Yeah I'm interested. What do you all have?
I'll make it tomorrow, but won't be driving it because where I am... It's rainy. ;)
The standard motor screws won't fit my gearbox
this is true - same problem here!
Another nice upgrade.
If the gear weren't greased, would the car slow down and the motor heat up, or would it just mess up the teeth?
+Stealth Nasty99 The grease works as a cushion, temperature control, and lubricant for the teeth. It provides protection from wear and tear. It really doesn't mess with the speed performance. Without the grease the teeth with wear down much faster.
+darkeclipticheart Oh ok, thank you for responding so quickly.
+darkeclipticheart Do you know, what might of caused it to over time slow down. I've the slipper clutch, checked the tires if they to tight on the hex and could rotate properly. If you are busy trust don't worry about it though.
u need the mip driveshafts! and a hobbywing! maybe some sand paws! and some snow!
and a itchy trigger finger!!
I just install this gear box on my rustler....and I had the right size NUTS...lolls they added that big RPM sticker because they knew they put a wrong size nut loll...because I had only 2 small stickers...but great video....I think they should have added all the screws, because I was looking at the paper like WTF is this lolls.
A well suited upgrade, but I have still more invested in upgrades for mine. XD
I was missing loads of screws for mine
Where u get the cable mesh
Would it be a bad idea to run motor oil in this trani?
how long do you think this upgrade would take without videoing?
+Colby Scheuber Around 30-60 minutes
damn mine arrived on Friday and i wasnt home..need to wait till monday to get to the post office..
Make a vid on it. I want to see!
can this gear box fit a 1/8 motor
Thanks helped me put mine on
So what is it about the RPM gear box that makes it better than the stock?
One thing I can think of is those black pieces where the rear arms attach to sometimes break on the stock making you have to replace the whole gearbox half where as with this you can just replace the black bit
@@Venm_Bte Ok, It does look practical. It is one RPM product tho that should not be made of their special flexible plastic formula.
Is find a hpi e firestorm?
Aight cool thanks does it work good
Anybody know a good way to tighten the m4 nuts?
Trial and error. If the chance of error was to great I did researd in forums and videos.
man is the aluminum that much heavier? dang..
I'm thinking of buying this for my speed rustler is the 30$ tranny worth it?
I own two rustler two 4x4 stampede two erevo two emax two trx6 one regular and one snap-on hauler two trx4 Blazer two scx10 two hpi spirit two clod buster two tl01 and three speed pioneer and two 1/16 erevo
i heard it was 100 grams heavier... ( than stock )
Are u sure u don't want the bumper, you don't have it plus it's free
And by the way, great job on the vid, but I would suggest making the intro a bit shorter.
Nice. You can't beat titanium!
Yeah. It would make more of a mess than do what it's supposed to do.
Finally! A reload :)
It was a lot of Trial and Error with buying upgrades.
Blaze!!! Nice
Sight cool thanks
I paused it to say put a. Nut on it ? And I pushed play and you just showed the nit on the end for no reason ? Bammm that just happened
Perhaps
The bumper is wider than the rpm bumper
I live in New Mexico USA
