    I've been watching you carve a homestead out of that beautiful wilderness and I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for sharing this with us. I commend your drive, spirit and fortitude at carrying out such an undertaking. Living off the land and making your own timber is something I've grown more and more interested in throughout the years. I'm learning a lot from your videos and have to say they're just as entertaining as something like "The Yankee Workshop", if not more!

    I've been living semi-offgrid for most of my life, and i know from experience that nothing beats fresh ground water, it is i think the most pure and good thing to drink and cook with available, congrats on the new water system!

    I did something similar in Kasilof Alaska when building a fish camp. I used a 12 ft.x 2 ft.plastic culvert vertically with a 1 in. line 7 ft deep running to a pump/tank unit in the bath house. Works great and never froze. Also had water checked for potability. Always carried a 454 Ruger. Keep up the good work!

    As a long time mountain plumber that looks great. I would advise using schedule 80 pvc though due to the backfill weight and displacement that is more so in mountainous areas. as well as more tolerance to freeze. Also, I know it can be ugly but use many slip to slip unions and slip to slip ball valves, when a repair or maintainence comes into play you will thank yourself immensly.

    i really enjoy your video's. Me and a couple of friends have been waking up for these past few years, figuring out what to do when shit hits the fan...
    I recently started making a digital catalogue that can run on any 6V/12V platform such as cellphones / notebooks, u name it.
    That way when i craft a solar station (a small one) i can charge batteries that run those small systems so i have my catalogue with me with all the necessary information.
    Seeing as you are resourcefull yourselve, this might be a little idea for you too. small solar converters only cost a couple hundred bucks but give a sustained 12V / 24V output with which you can charge batteries to any device.
    Anyway, thanks for your video's so far. we really enjoy en learn from them.
    God bless you and your family.

      +I adore LoA (JOY seeker) I am doing this right now, i just collected this video, so it's neat that i saw someone else doing the same. I download the videos by copying the url's and pasting them into a mp4 converter on a website like keepvid.com it's very simple and there are youtube tutorials. i then transfer the video files to sd cards and thumb drives to view later on any device that can be charged using a 12volt to 120volt power inverter using the devices normal power cord. Knowledge is power. Never be without the know how to survive.

  • @Skittzoh
    @Skittzoh 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you still have a chance to get into the spring. See what you can to use ABS pipe, 3 or 4 inch pipe is best, drill your holes , then use Schedule 80 PVC inside for the water line. Resist using PVC for the outer large diam spring fill tube as it becomes more brittle and week after drilling many holes in it, and resist using thin wall drain french drain, since youll be backfilling with rock. Sorry, Im not a troll, I've just done more than my share of wells, springs ect. Want to see you succeed

  • @YokoWenis

    One important milestone down. How many cisterns do you plan to have and will they stay liquid during the winter? Not sure if you plan on burying them or not

  • @BeardsandBranches
    @BeardsandBranches 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you block the water with cement, could the cement leech in the water? I plan on doing this on my land and since the water seeps through the ground I was thinking of using cement...But want it to be drinkable. Please let me know I would greatly appreciate it.

  • @wdhish
    @wdhish 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are back-filling everything what are you doing to protect your tank and wouldn't it make more sense to move the tank further down the hill so that it isn't buried and inaccessible for inspection and repair? I mean is surrounded by cold formed common steel that will rust out about as fast as the plastic breaks down over the next 5 -7 years. Furthermore the tank doesn't create the pressure in the line; it is the fall from the source that causes pressure.

    hey i was wonder how the tank is vented for letting the water flow. i am slightly concerned with airborne contamination like algae and bacteria. u shouldnt usually have to worrie about it right as long as the water source is moving or replenished so often in the tank? some ruff ideas i know older wells had problems sometimes and what would u do for the water tank if it got algae in it

      The water is comeing out of the ground and the temp of the ground is a constant 54-58° thats part of the reason for covering the spring with rock and geo fabric well that and keeping Ecoli from animal poop/pee contaminateing the sorce

    I didn't hear you address checking the sand output and I'm not sure if you even have sand that high up but you wanna monitor the bottom of your tank to ensure that your well is not producing too much sand. This can cause a major problem with subsidence after time. Don't mean to be a know-it-all just trying to help.

  • @joejoemorgan
    @joejoemorgan 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could have fed the water into the top of the tank just as easily and used the lower valve (now under pressure due to the weight of the water from above) to feed to your house.

  • @wdhish
    @wdhish 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, if the water wasn't originally draining from underground why do you need to overflow line? The soil should have the porosity needed to handle the "back-up" and continue to feed the stream that it was feeding before redirected.

    Will the pressure of the water in the storage tank not force the water back up the pipe?

    • @seigeengine
      @seigeengine 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Weston CLASSEN No, the outlet is above the tanks, so the tanks would have to fill completely before the water would backup.
