    I like that you don’t just dismiss Rap music like so many people do (most of whom don’t even listen to it). In my opinion there’s good and bad in every genre of music. Rap is no different.

    “It was a block away from Leuders park I seen a El Camino parked and in her heart she hate it there but in her mind she made it where nothing really mattered so she hit the back seat, Rosa Parks never a factor when she making ends meet.” Such a powerful bar.

    Such a classic and one of kendricks deepest songs. His storytelling is unreal. "Keisha Song" a prequel to the song "sing about me dying" where we hear Keisha's perspective

      Actually the second verse of song about me is about keishas older sister (who is also a hooker) complaining about Kendrick using her sisters death for a song and the 3rd verse Kendrick says why he wrote it

    This was a great review. You’re pops is sharp and you seem like an intelligent young man as well.
    Kendrick really went deep on this one. It’s a harsh reality but it is indeed real. I gotta give it a 10 out of 10.
    Prayers and blessings to all the Keisha’s out there in the world. Keep your head up and stay strong. 🙏🏽

    I'm not familiar with Kendrick Lamar. First time hearing this. Hip Hop is not my style but I do commend you guys for playing all types of music and being honest in your opinions. I like the intro. That along with parts of the song when he is singing has a haunting sound, but the rapping part didn't grab me. I know that you guys focus on the lyrics and the message the song is trying to make. I must be honest that I focus more on the music. Lyrics without music is like poetry. The melody is what drives the song, and if a song has a strong melody, then it can go a long way in making a song more listenable. For example, I think of Hello Goodbye. The lyrics are a play on words going back and forth, nothing heavy, but the melody is so strong that it becomes so catchy and exciting to listen to. I read that someone once called it the perfect Pop song. I just wanted to make a point. Please don't misunderstand me. I do want to add that you guys gave a very good review reacting to this song. Trey really liked this song at a 9.5. Shawn gave this a high rating of 8.75. I would rate it a 7.0. It is true that everyone has different tastes in music.

      It's all good either you get or don'tno judgement here. Rap is an acronym that literally means rythym and poetry,so the lyrics are very important in this genre. It's cool if it's not your cup of tea.

    • @poetgb
      @poetgb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@truthbringer-6748 I understand what you are saying. You are right that Rap is more on the lyrics trying to convey a message. I come from the old school of music. I hear a big difference in the sound of the songs from the 50's and 60's and 70's compared to now. That's the era when music reached it's peak in quality. I didn't want to sound like I was judging. I've been listening to music for a long time and I know good music when I hear it. I developed an ear for melody.

    is there something disconcerting about this being presented as "art" rather than reprehension? is it the dichotomy of singing about holding hands when the world is burning? i don't know....there's something that bugs me about this, maybe it has to do with era and/or juxtaposition but i'm not comfortable with it; as yet....

      Great thoughts Bruce, and I can see why this track in particular is a bit tough to digest. I think that is precisely why Kendrick wrote the tune though, to make the listener feel uncomfortable with the subject matter and have one's eyes opened to the fact that similar situations happen to countless girls throughout the world. As a listener, I always cringe whenever the climax of the song hits where it is revealed Keisha was abused as a child and that ultimately led her down the path of prostitution. Kendrick touches on themes of sexual exploitation, child abuse, generational hardships, and why women end up selling their bodies for money. I (Trey) personally think he did this in a brilliant way and revealed a reality that though tough to swallow, is a way of life for many (especially in the area where Kendrick grew up.) Thanks for the discussion!
