I've read tons of comments and watched a lot of reactions of people explaining why they love BAND-MAID and I've come to some conclusions (mind you this is my opinion and I could be completely wrong). * Individually they are realy good (exeptional even) on their respective instruments (vocals included). There are many individually better musicians but the thing with BAND-MAID is that they complete each other almost perfectly and with them the whole (the band) is greater than sum of parts. Try to imagine MISA (or Saiki or whoever) in some other band, MISA would catch your attention wherever she is, but about the rest of the imagined band? Maybe. * All of their songs have multiple things to offer to listeners: Hooks, catchyness, groove, energy, emotion, interesting musical ideas, powerful or deep lyrics, etc. BAND-MAID has a song to fit your any mood you may be in. Additionally, in each song they "feature" each member to a different degree and througout the song one can catch them (individually) shine for a moment to take a step back few measures after. Outside of jazz(fusion) or prog, music rarely jumps around so much as BAND-MAID's music does. * Their song-writting process is amaizing. One of them (cough, Kanami) comes up with a demo: general song structure melodies, breakdowns, hooks etc; then Akane and MISA plug in their parts with approval from the rest of the band. Together they pack a lot of music in each song (sometimes to the brink of beeing too much). In the end Miku comes up with a Lyrics (this info can be found in various interviews they had during the years). (side comment: I'm very much interested what happens when they finaly go to the studio to record the songs: Who is there? How do the conversations go? How long do they experiment with the sound(tone) of the instruments? In general, production side of things.. I'd love a few "making of"(documentary) videos of their whole song-writting process) * From the moment they got creative control of their music they mix and match multiple genres (rock, metal, punk, prog, funk, a bit of blues and jazz) and with all that they create their own sound. Great example of this is DICE: it starts like a heavy bass/drum/guitar riff driven rock song, then comes in Akane with syncopated drums in the verse, then it evolves into catchy-poppy chorus, all that is rounded up with punk-rock breakdown and two amazing (and a bit) short solos from MISA and Kanami. (I won't even try to analyze No God or Black Hole which may be better examples). * BAND-MAID works hard as a band: over the years they evolved: their sound, their skills, their music; they push themselves and each other to do more and to do better. * (maybe a bit exaggerated) They live and breathe for live performances and their fans (now go listen About Us, I tear up each time) And to repeat, these are my opinions and I could be convinced otherwise ,but because of reasons stated above BAND-MAID catches you off guard each time you hear new song: So many parts that complete the whole picture which includes stuff outside the music itself.
Their music is a comfort zone. Everything you want in music, they do it. Their songs are catchy enough for the normal person, but intricate enough for the musicians. Their humble personalities make you want the best for them and when you see other people react to them in amazement, it makes you proud of them... if that makes any sense, lol.
It makes perfect sense to me for one, and I can totally relate to what you are saying :-) I have been a musician for the better part of my life, 57 yo now. I started playing acoustic guitar at age 10, electric guitar at age 13, and the bass at age 24.
I hear you on how BAND-MAID just affects me differently than other bands. I can't explain why, I've never been a "fan boy" before encountering BAND-MAID. I used to listen to lots of rock and metal, "Rush", "Kansas", "Styx", "REO Speedwagon", "Black Sabbath", "AC/DC", "Scorpions", "Judas Priest", "Molly Hatchet", "ZZ Top" and really enjoyed the music. I used to listen to music that reflected my mood, that's one of the reasons I was a metal head. Listening to heavy metal was a cathartic release. Then BAND-MAID come along... Whenever I listen to BAND-MAID I experience extreme utter joy. A lot of the older music I used to listen too now seems quaint. Music I thought was balls out fast, seems kind of slow now.
One and Only is an underrated gem. It lacks a crazy guitar solo, so it often never gets brought up. But they all masterfully play their parts on this song.
I'm not sure that the answer you search, but 4 crazy extra talented women with their instrument + 1 crazy imaginative pigeon (extra talentend too) + extreme chemestry with each others + not pull their feelings but all their souls in what they do = Music UFO miracle-po = BAND-MAID. It's like the dream team with the NBA in the 90's, or like Led Zeppelin in there time. The days when they met each others, the universe align the stars for create the BAND-MAID's miracle-constelation-po :p (that the only explanation that make sense for me xD). But for real, I feel the same as you, but I don't really search why. I'm not a musician, juste an humble listener, but for me, loving a music, song, band,... it's the same thing that loving someone, if you found why, you loose of this "love magic", so I don't care why, just enjoy it. (I'm not sure it's very clear, again explain "feelings things" in another language is not easy xD) Take care :)
It amazes me the depth and breadth of their library, and that nothing seems "repeated" ... like they always find a way to do some different and new ... it's almost as if "different and new" are their signature characteristics.
Thanks Ryan for a great reaction. I listen to various music genres but nothing compares to my love for this band. I am so happy that our little pigeon had a dream and the guts to make it happen. I bet at the start, she had no idea how much great music would be created by her fellow band members and how much joy she has provided to a ever-growing fan base. This is a great song and it is good to see a musician such as yourself feels the same way as I do.
"Nobody affects me the way they do." Yeah, this is me also. Can't explain it. I listen to other bands, even the all-female ones from Japan, and they are crammed with awesome musicians doing crazy technical stuff, but they don't move me the way this band does. I can listen to this song ten times in row (and do), and I find myself still coming back for more. It's nuts, but a good nuts.
I think the best way to describe Band Maid and all the little things tucked away is, "You didn't HAVE to but we are SO glad you did." It just isn't possible to hear everything in one or two listens.
It's joy for life; they have it, they share it, it shines in everything they do. They know the world is not perfect but they do the best they can to make it better.
Yes, there is something different about Band Maid, a good different. I think it comes down to Kanami's compositions. It's kind of like a controlled chaos, but sounds so good. Ear candy. Man, I hope I get to see them this year when they come to the states. I fear they won't even come close to where I live, Maine. I may have to travel.
Band-Maid cast their spell on me long before I saw Miku's Omajinai Time. There has never been anything like Band-Maid and there never will be. I consider myself to be very lucky to be alive during the Age of the Maid!
I know what you mean about "Hoooooow do they have this effect?!?!" IMO it's very much like when you stumble upon food that you've thoroughly enjoyed thousands of times before, but this time it's made with the absolute best ingredients in the perfect proportions by the person who's most expert in making that dish. It's just indescribably good. Sometimes I think this is my favorite Band-Maid song. I'm pretty sure that "Don't You Tell ME" - " Daydreaming" - "One and Only" from the Zepp Tokyo DVD is my favorite live three-song sequence...and if that weren't enough, those are followed by the acoustic "Puzzle."
When you say that no other band effects you like Band Maid I agree, never before and I remember the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show, I remember when Led Zeppelin debut, these band's are both pioneers in music creativity and relivant today, Band Maid effects me even more and I feel in 50 years their music will still be relivant and admired.
This band has found together, like in the old days of the garage bands. I know a drummer, you know a guitar player and the singer just did her the guys playing their instruments aaaaaand a legend has been born. That's the way how music has to be be made. You can never ever cast such a band together, it will not work. It has just to happen, and when it happens something great will be born. Band-Maid is the proove.
Ryan, as others have said, now go listen to 'One and only' live at Zepp Tokyo. It is awesome. They play it straight after 'Daydreaming' (your favorite) and just before 'Puzzle' acoustic. It is available on Band-Maid Prime.
I can't explain it, but every time I hear this song it feels like I'm put into a trance and I feel like I'm about to cry. Not in the same sense as Anemone (I tear up each time) .. but just as impactful. I don't know why.
I am 100% convinced that the magic lies in the Thunder Buddies: MISA and Akane. Its the unique combination of Akane's brilliant drumming style and MISA's GOD TIER playing and tone. More so MISA's tone as I think that is what allows her to just cut through the soundscape when needed. Just the perfect amount of distortion and tonality that allows the listener to hear those amazing riffs, runs, and slides she does accented perfectly by Akane... all underpinning the brilliant composition of Kanami.... and that's just scratching the surface of what makes this band so unique.... Onions, dude, onions... peel away the layers.
Totally agree. Tons of great players are out there, each of them is equally impressive but this band is different. I've never thought that I would become a fan of any band after listened to all kinds of music in decades. Feel like I am a teenager again.
Same here, my friend. I’ve become cynical with music post 2000 then TH-cam suggested the MV Unleah last February and I’m HOOKED! Too deep in the rabbit err, pigeon hole!😅 love it!
yep..thats band maid there is that special something that its so hard to put your finger on.. these girls are so versed on there instruments so a thing people don't talk about much is the "feel" they play with . they are not worried abou thte next note , its easy they have practiced and played to such a degree that the emotion they can put into every note really helps the songs come to life. its hard to explain but I mean the pressure they put on a note at particular point, the smoothness with which they can navigate there instruments. ever hear a wonderful jazz fusion band live and just think , wow this is luxurious? they are really playing with "feel" well, band maid have that level of skil, just u end up asking why am i feeling this? because kanami puts it into such a finely tuned package that has zero meat on the bones the main thing that you get from this band is an overwhelming positivity, I wonder is ther ea mysterious process by which a song is recorded within a particular feeling and that feeling lives forever in that song, so that when listened to again those feelings that were put in strike you at a level below consciousness These girls make you love music and love life
The musicians who have really mastered their craft, have mastered the language of emotions. They play the song over and over a hundred times, each time perfecting the feeling they want to convey through this piece of music. That's really incredible. When I think about it, I am moved to fall on my knees and worship them as superior human beings. Usually, a feeling is thought of as a spontaneous outburst that cannot be manifested upon request. But great musicians just concentrate, play it... and here we are, crying or jumping with happiness or feeling blue, because they have led us there.
This song has my favorite Kobato backing vocals during the chorus. The prog breakdown and Mincho’s trem picking toward the end also hit really hard. You should also react to the live at Zepp Tokyo version.
Genius and fun. This mini album is a treasure. This could be "just" a copy/paste of the already recorded songs, add a few traditional instruments, throw in "Gion-Cho" as an original song to pull up sales and it would be already a great little gift for the fans... but they are Band-Maid, so they re-write the whole thing, adapt new lyrics Kyoto-style, add traditional instruments and lots of cool added background vocals and every song feels like new, refreshed, fun... In my head there is always a big big "Thank you for this" every time I listen to it... and yeah, "Gion-Cho" will always be high up on favs out of favs along side with "YOLO" or "Puzzle" or "Play" or "Daydreaming" ... awesome, just awesome!
My favorite BAND-MAID song...and the way you describe how you feel listening to their music...is the way we all feel. I am envious that you are going to have the US TOUR... I want to see BAND-MAID live!!!.
It has the vibes of Pearl Jam’s Yellow Ledbetter when Vedder says “make me cry” then guitar solo. Band-Maid’s music really makes me feel like I’m a teenage kid again enjoying real music as I did before!
It's great to see someone else experience what I and it seems a lot of others feel with this band. I've had it with albums but never a whole band. Like drugs or falling in love, but with none of the downsides. If Ryan shows up at one of their gigs in the US, someone should introduce him to the band.
To me, a Band maid song is like a good book that keeps you engaged all the way through. Each member has their own story to tell, but their all paths are interwoven into the main storyline. This come from the how they construct their songs. Kanami writing the main storyline before handing it off to Misa and Akane. Then our precious pigeon is inspired by the music and goes off and studies and writes fantastic lyrics, which leads to Princesses Miku and Saiki working out how to put the vocal melody into the song. They have a chemistry that puts them above other bands and it shows in how the respect each other and how they respect their fans and how they respect music. Q for you Ryan. Is there another band that writes songs the way Band Maid does?
I fully agree! Five Goddesses who decided to incarnate for a short time, to have some fun at this plane of existence. And then inadvertently bumping into each other, because the Hand of Destiny was at work. And then they have decided that it's much better to spend time and serve the humans together, showering their beauty and joy and laughter upon us. All hail BAND-MAID!
Dude, Ryan, in the live video of this, Miku and Kanami share the jazzy little chord solo together! It has a slightly more chaotic feel live, but hey, 2 synchronizing is way more difficult than just 1!💪🏻🤘🏻
Thank you Ryan, great reaction as always. When the day comes that Kanami decides it's time to go prog metal, we will be in for some very intricate stuff with many layers of complexity, this is my prediction. Her sisters in arms will help create wonderful music in the future as they are all very capable musicians :-) I'm Daydreaming as usual when it comes to Band-Maid, but their creativity is top notch. I'm also waiting to see the results of MISA, Miku, Akane and Saiki in compositions, it will happen, as they told us in the Unseen World interview last year.
Sound galore!!. The thing that really grabs me of One and Only (specially in the Zepp Tokio performance) it's the interplay vocals between Miku and Saiki. Absolutely stunning. Probably here are the seeds of their last prominent step forward, the outstanding multi layerd vocal lines. Great job Ryan!!, thank you so much.
You're not the only broken record round here pardner. What an awesome song. Again. And IMO it's their ridiculously awesome songwriting that plays a big role in setting them apart. Love ❤️ them.
Reason why we love Band-Maid and they are so different: Some guy named 'Machine Gun Kelly' (never heard of him/them) was playing during the NHL allstar game today. The drums were a standard beat, the bass was a standard riff, the guitars repeated the same riff throughout the song with just major strumming to emphasize and the singer was monotone. That NEVER happens with Band-Maid. Every song has complexities with instrument, rhythm and vocals. And no song sounds like another. They are what music deserves and why we love them so much!
Please, never mention that person in my comnents again! LOL.I know all about that jackwagon because I also like Hip Hop, which is what he did before Eminem shut him down so hard that he quit rap and went to be a pop punk putz. Yeah, I'm sure he's way more famous than the MAIDS,,, which is ridiculous and sad.
Legitimately one of my favorites by them. There's not a ton that's "reaction-worthy" or whatever but it just sounds so good and comes together so well. And that vocal hook in the chorus? SO good.

bro, it's love for all that they do, their sound, individual mastery of instruments and their character
You're the best reviewer I've found; don't understand why you don't have at least 50K subscribers. By the way,I love the "Kanami's Speaking" shirt-got it 3 days ago. I like the weight of it,and the quality is exceptional. Thanks

One and Only was one of my original favorites and even hearing your input I was realizing the things I hadn't heard or considered. And somehow I totally missed Tora and Tora! Guess I'm missing a cd lol. Here's to hoping summer comes quickly and we get to see them live. Being that these may be their first live shows in a long while, I think it's gonna be an emotional and all around high energy experience for everyone. I'll be looking for ya Ryan.
Being stumped what to say in itself says a lot :) You get across your feelings fine imo without needing to say something different every time! Just let us know which bits stand out or you like best in each song- thats enough for me- any more is a bonus!
Regarding the "what makes them special" part is, I think, emergent. That's why it's so hard to put your finger on. It's not JUST Akane's driving style and killer fills. It's not JUST MISA's unique style on the bass. It's not JUST Saiki and Miku's intertwining harmonies or Kanami shredding for texture, though any band would love to have any one of those things. It's not even putting all those things together, not exactly. It's that they're like the goddamn Planeteers of music; when their powers combine it just creates MORE and they become unstoppable.
"TORA and TORA" In all the songs of BAND-MAIKO, Saiki uses the word called "京ことば Kyo-kotoba(Kyoto dialect)". The Kyo-kotoba has many special phrases that are different from the so-called "Kansai-ben(Kansai region dialect. Kyoto is included in the Kansai region)", and even if you are from Kyoto, it is not a word that ordinary people other than maiko and geisha use on a daily basis. Many maiko are not from Kyoto, but when working as a maiko in Kyoto, it is not desirable to use the dialect of the region in which they were born and raised. Therefore, the training content of Maiko includes the acquisition of this Kyo-kotoba. The Kyo-kotoba is, so to speak, a "common language" for maiko and geisha. ※ "Maiko( Pronunciation is my-ko)" means a person in the apprenticeship stage of Geiko (Geisha).
Hi, Ryan. I love your BAND-MAID reactions. I can tell that you really like BAND-MAID and you like to react to it. I hope their US tour goes off without a hitch and that you will be there.
MISA MISA MISA! when I first heard One and Only it was Great but not Awesome like most of the rest of WD then I heard Tora and Tora and fell instantly in love with it and thru that formed a greater appreciation for the original.
The song seems to be a joke to me... When I heard it for the first time, I couldn't help laughing. There are so many tricks in this song that you can only think that the geniuses are playing "pervert", and it makes you laugh and laugh and laugh... To put it bluntly, TORA AND TORA's songs are, from start to finish, a playful parody of their own songs...
BAND-MAIKO was made as an April Fool's joke. Sung in the dialect of Kyoto, the old capital of Japan. The lyrics are interesting because they are studded with word games. The original One And Only was made as music for Japanese horror movies, but it's one of my favorite BAND-MAID songs.
Nice reaction Ryan. One and Only is a nice song, though the Maiko version isn't a favorite of mine. The live version is incredible. MISA has a weird but cool bass intro in that one. You can find it on Old Mr, B's channel. He only talks after the video is over so you can watch it straight through. =)
i guess the bottom end never get lost because of Miku, that just goes to show that she is probably the most important member in the band, she is the glue, she connects everything together, she is often overlooked by people but in my opinion she is just as important as any other member, these 5 members are what makes the band special, BAND-MAID is the final product of all their skills
Kiseki-po. Miracle-po. Indeed, BAND-MAID is a miracle. Five absolutely amazing people, who understand things so deeply, and have zero stupidity in them.
Well, you never know. Wagakki band have already shown the way! Do not be surprised if they introduce the following Japanese instruments: -Taiko/japanese drums for Akane -Shamisen (general Japanese version) and samisen (Okinawa version), biwa/an incredible Japanese kind of guitar much used in movies for dark or mysterious atmosphere. -Koto/flat harp -Shakuhachi/Japanese flute~recorder have a nice day!
MIKU is playful. BAND MAIKO was designed by MIKU to surprise everyone. For us Japanese, MAIKO is a beautiful traditional culture, but we are reluctant to whiten our face. So it's very interesting. The Kyoto dialect can only be deciphered by some Japanese, even Japanese. MIKU seems to have studied the Kyoto dialect. Also, it seems that all the members tried and errored to incorporate Japanese musical instruments into the original song. By the way, the name of the cat that MIKU keeps is TORA. Is it something to do with it?
Good to know for Westerners who are interested in Japanese culture like me. Band Maid just after Baby Metal plunged me into Japanese rock. I am very happy.😍🤘
In my opinion... you have 3 exceptional musicians and a phenomenal singer... who take their que from Miku. Each is perfect on their own, but they all take it that extra step to make each other sound even better. Utterly unselfish, like Miku is. That and, they would totally be doing this, even if there were no fans and videos. They love to make music and they love their bandmates just as much. No other band I have ever known, is anywhere close to being that perfect band, rather than a collection of consummate performers.
Ryan! Getting cold here but your reaction warmed me up! Thousands of fans may already have mentioned it: Wagakki Band does the same as an integral part of their music. Japanese instruments included in the back up: -Shamisen/3-stringed traditional Japanese guitar played with a spectrum called bachi, a kind of giant pick. -Taiko/drums, small sized in this instance. On top of that some of the vocals are pure classical Japanese singing and harmonizing, including some from the Island of Okinawa!. I would not say they are weird, because I expect them to surprise us all the time inciting us to lurk in dark alleys to catch them at the first opportunity! The difference is their classical +;jazz musical education which helps them delve into any experimentation they feel the need for. Ryan, this is only a start! The likes of Vlad and Gary will agree with me. The only difference is that I speak from the Land of The Rising Sun! Lucky bastard I am! Best regards, Robert-Gilles
Yeah....I have a hard time figuring out what their X Factor is that has made me love them like no other band (well except for possibly my Beatles phase)
Maybe... it's the magic of MIKU's Moe Moe Kuuun curse. By the way, the Japanese word "OMAJINAI" also means "curse". LOL! 多分・・・それはMIKUのモエ・モエ・キューンのお呪いの魔力です。 ちなみに日本語の「OMAJINAI」という言葉には「呪い」という意味もあります。 (笑)
Ryan, my man, you've got lots of company when it comes to the depths of admiration you have for the Maids. I hope to see you at a show if they really make it here this year! 🤘🤠🤘
When you're listening to their cds you forget to skip needless to say... Most people who are skeptic about them just by listening to just one or two songs should seriously give them more chance. They really don't know what gem they're missing out on.
@@robert-gillesmartineau1208 Indeed they do & it would go well spread on some banana bread with a nice cup of whisky coffee. Or just whisky I'm good with that :)

We're lacking the language to speak about music. Well, music IS a language, and the only way to translate from one language to another is probably to use poetry. If you write some tanka about BAND-MAID music, then hopefully you may explain why their music is so meaningful for all of us Maidiacs. The spacious sky Spans serene and clear So blue above, Oh, that our soul could grow And become so open! In a world of storms Let there be no wavering Of our human hearts; Remain as the pine tree With root sunk deep in stone You have a right pure soul if you have nothing ashamed of in front of God whom you cannot see. It's from the poetry by the Emperor Meiji, in case you are curious.
Old Arthur fellow had some fine thoughts about music as the true language of nature : "Music passes nearby us as a friendly paradise yet seeming eternally faraway, perfectly intelligible so as completely puzzling, revealing the most intimate movements of your soul while stripping them from the distorting reality". (Schopenhauer in "The world as will and representation")
I had a commercial art teacher years ago. He sternly criticized most of the early efforts. Then said, " I don't want your first idea or even your fifth. Give me your 10th, 15th idea ". I believe the Maids are like that.
With April fools day coming in a couple months, I'm thinking what is going to happen this time? They make a fake rival band? It's awesome, they put out an album for it the next year. Miku does a solo project? It's awesome, there is supposedly an album coming out for it last I heard. This year? Watch them all trade instruments. Akane will sing, MISA on drums, Kanami on bass, Saiki guitar and back up vocals, and Miku? Sax. And it will STILL be awesome and an album will come out later!
Correction. Akane on slide trombone. And, of course, singing. That song named "Don't you," you know. Kanami on keyboards. That's what I want to see. She'll be easily a second Rick Wakeman on stage, if she's fully into it, I bet.
There is nothing to say. With every album they gt better and better and there is no stopping them anytime, even remotely, soon. And for that, I'll keep on smiling :D
Is this Misa's showcase? Yes, I totally agree. When I first listened to this, I was so excited t discovering what Misa's doing, but the thing is, you know, right after impressed by one player, this time it's Misa, then Akane throw in crazy fills and Kanami does it too with riffs and solos. They never cease to amaze me. Thank you for your reaction, ad always!
Band-Maid + running workout = enjoyable time The only reason I stop is because I went through the songs. Band-Maid + fun workout = cure for diseases (plus a big middle finger to big pharma)
All the songs in "Band Maiko" are written in Kyoto dialect, not in Japanese standard language, so it makes me laugh every time like a novelty song, but it is very regrettable that it is not conveyed to people who do not understand Japanese.
@@VladimirChupin Wow, I'm so happy with your reply from the famous Maidiac.😍 I'm currently studying English because most of the reactors and comments are in English.😅 I'd be happy if maidiacs could learn Japanese as well.😄
Band-Maid for me is a phenomenon the likes I've never experienced to this degree in 65 years. I must listen to them every day. Their music just wraps around my soul and doesn't let go. Can't explain it any other way. But I do know that BAND-MAID are Awesome. Peace.

I'd love a few "making of"(documentary) videos of their whole song-writting process)
* From the moment they got creative control of their music they mix and match multiple genres (rock, metal, punk, prog, funk, a bit of blues and jazz) and with all that they create their own sound.
* (maybe a bit exaggerated) They live and breathe for live performances and their fans (now go listen About Us, I tear up each time)
And to repeat, these are my opinions and I could be convinced otherwise ,but because of reasons stated above BAND-MAID catches you off guard each time you hear new song: So many parts that complete the whole picture which includes stuff outside the music itself.
I fully agree. It's a very good explanation of reality. Thanks!
Excellent analysis.
Well, if I were you, I would ask someone to publish your comment!
Serious!
Well said, mate!
If you have the Live Shibuya DVD, there's a good vid of the band behind the scenes during rehearsals that gives a peek at their dynamics. :)
Nailed it
Ryan you are a Master Maidiac for sure!❤👌👍🤘🤘💥💥💥
Their music is a comfort zone. Everything you want in music, they do it. Their songs are catchy enough for the normal person, but intricate enough for the musicians. Their humble personalities make you want the best for them and when you see other people react to them in amazement, it makes you proud of them... if that makes any sense, lol.
It makes perfect sense to me for one, and I can totally relate to what you are saying :-) I have been a musician for the better part of my life, 57 yo now. I started playing acoustic guitar at age 10, electric guitar at age 13, and the bass at age 24.
You’re comment best sums up my thoughts! You’ve put it into clear and easily understandable statement, thank you! I am not alone!☺️🤘🏻🤘🏻
Band-Maid's music finds its way into every part of your brain that enjoys music and tickles it.
(I'm not sure it's very clear, again explain "feelings things" in another language is not easy xD)
Take care :)
When listening to bandmaid words will run out from your mouth but keeps your heart beating, makes your ear wanting for more and feeding your soul.
I think the best way to describe Band Maid and all the little things tucked away is, "You didn't HAVE to but we are SO glad you did." It just isn't possible to hear everything in one or two listens.
Nice!
It's joy for life; they have it, they share it, it shines in everything they do. They know the world is not perfect but they do the best they can to make it better.
Yes very well said.👍
@@GaryHolloway-810 You know how highly I regard the approach they take to life.
“No one affects me like they do”
Exactly
Yes, there is something different about Band Maid, a good different. I think it comes down to Kanami's compositions. It's kind of like a controlled chaos, but sounds so good. Ear candy. Man, I hope I get to see them this year when they come to the states. I fear they won't even come close to where I live, Maine. I may have to travel.
TORA and TORA has the coolest intro of all the BAND-MAIKO songs. Still brings a smile to my face after many, many, many listens.
Hoi!
Kiseki-po.
Miracle-po.
A wise wolf's words!
An on-鬼i/ogre (ogress) playing the drums of Thunder in the clouds and a Tatsu-龍/Dragon sending the lightnings on our heads!
Totally agree. Tons of great players are out there, each of them is equally impressive but this band is different. I've never thought that I would become a fan of any band after listened to all kinds of music in decades. Feel like I am a teenager again.
#MeToo
Same here, my friend. I’ve become cynical with music post 2000 then TH-cam suggested the MV Unleah last February and I’m HOOKED! Too deep in the rabbit err, pigeon hole!😅 love it!
yep..thats band maid
there is that special something that its so hard to put your finger on..
these girls are so versed on there instruments so a thing people don't talk about much is the "feel" they play with .
they are not worried abou thte next note , its easy
they have practiced and played to such a degree that the emotion they can put into every note really helps the songs come to life.
its hard to explain but I mean the pressure they put on a note at particular point, the smoothness with which they can navigate there instruments.
ever hear a wonderful jazz fusion band live and just think , wow this is luxurious?
they are really playing with "feel"
well, band maid have that level of skil,
just u end up asking why am i feeling this?
because kanami puts it into such a finely tuned package that has zero meat on the bones
the main thing that you get from this band is an overwhelming positivity,
I wonder is ther ea mysterious process by which a song is recorded within a particular feeling and that feeling lives forever in that song, so that when listened to again
those feelings that were put in strike you at a level below consciousness
These girls make you love music and love life
I think you hit on something there. If a song is recorded with sadness or with love or happiness, it should shine through the recording.
@@VladimirChupin although, lots of musicians have mastered their craft,
to incite emotion is a whole other talent.
but
totally get what your ur saying

Beautifully said, mate!
I agree with the busy part, but when her beautiful sweet vocals come on.. what a way to balance it out for me. ❤️
This song has my favorite Kobato backing vocals during the chorus. The prog breakdown and Mincho’s trem picking toward the end also hit really hard.
You should also react to the live at Zepp Tokyo version.
There *IS* something different about them. And if the US Tour 2022 does ever get off the ground, their popularity is going to skyrocket.
Yay finally! Thanks for doing this one Ryan, glad you liked it!
“One and Only” is a great song. I love the synth parts and of course Saiki’s “show me” addressed to Mincho 🎸👀
Yep the synth compliments the song rather than dominates it :)
I agree so completely! LOL
I'm voting for.😃🤘
To me, a Band maid song is like a good book that keeps you engaged all the way through.
Not that I know of
Hi Steve. A Band Maid song is a Chemical Reaction of course.🤣
Band maid..... 5 angel maid's sent to earth 🌎 to serve up what's supposed to be!!! It's a new church !!❤❤❤👍🦧🙏
Agree!!!! Gion cho has a big spot in my heart ❤️ ❤️. Thanks 👍👍🦧🍌🙏
You are not the only one to dream! LOL
This is BAND MAIDS world...... We just live in it !!!!!
Band Maid is the one and only, and Band Maiko too. Nice reaction. Thx 🤙
@@RyanMear I have no issue with never mentioning him again. My bad. lmao
Legitimately one of my favorites by them. There's not a ton that's "reaction-worthy" or whatever but it just sounds so good and comes together so well. And that vocal hook in the chorus? SO good.
bro, it's love for all that they do, their sound, individual mastery of instruments and their character
this song is a masterpiece - my 2nd favorite from domination after dice. love the dual upper and lower octave harmonies between saiki and miku
They did this one in one of their live streams and it was noticeably better. Whatever "it" is, Band-Maid has it.
How can you not smile?
You do not need to worry I for one feel the same way about Band Maid . the live version of one and only is even better
You're the best reviewer I've found; don't understand why you don't have at least 50K subscribers. By the way,I love the "Kanami's Speaking" shirt-got it 3 days ago. I like the weight of it,and the quality is exceptional. Thanks
Awesome! Thanks thank you!

Hell yes! It's the BAND-MAIKO album you need!
Akane drum line and fils are spectacular, Misa bass tone over the top!!!!!🤣🤣👍👍😎😎❤❤
"Band-Maid taking everybody down a notch"...You're damn right about that!
Being stumped what to say in itself says a lot :) You get across your feelings fine imo without needing to say something different every time! Just let us know which bits stand out or you like best in each song- thats enough for me- any more is a bonus!
“I haven’t listened to any BAND-MAID today. Let’s find a song then go to bed.” This is the third freakin’ song!!! The definition of addiction is……
Never get tire of listen to this band
Regarding the "what makes them special" part is, I think, emergent. That's why it's so hard to put your finger on. It's not JUST Akane's driving style and killer fills. It's not JUST MISA's unique style on the bass. It's not JUST Saiki and Miku's intertwining harmonies or Kanami shredding for texture, though any band would love to have any one of those things. It's not even putting all those things together, not exactly. It's that they're like the goddamn Planeteers of music; when their powers combine it just creates MORE and they become unstoppable.

Superb comment!
"TORA and TORA"
In all the songs of BAND-MAIKO, Saiki uses the word called "京ことば Kyo-kotoba(Kyoto dialect)".
Thanks for this valuable information!

Band Maid is simply Magical!!
But also brilliant! I prefer Secret Maiko Lips to the original.... and Gion-Cho is a masterpiece.
No worries Ryan. We know how you feel. Thank.
wth was that! did some one just call in the circus what a breakdown that was sooooo cool
Will you be doing the Unseen World Score CD, here or on Patreon? It is absolutely brilliant.
That sounds like a good idea!
Unseen World Instrumental CD was great, so I'm looking forward to your reaction!
That disbelief laugh at 10:20 - I was expecting it ^^
Nice reaction Ryan. One and Only is a nice song, though the Maiko version isn't a favorite of mine. The live version is incredible. MISA has a weird but cool bass intro in that one. You can find it on Old Mr, B's channel. He only talks after the video is over so you can watch it straight through. =)
I have access....I think I'll do a deep dive on that one
@@RyanMear SWEET!
i guess the bottom end never get lost because of Miku, that just goes to show that she is probably the most important member in the band, she is the glue, she connects everything together, she is often overlooked by people but in my opinion she is just as important as any other member, these 5 members are what makes the band special, BAND-MAID is the final product of all their skills
Kiseki-po.
Miracle-po.
Indeed, BAND-MAID is a miracle. Five absolutely amazing people, who understand things so deeply, and have zero stupidity in them.
Adding a Shamisen (Japanese banjo), make the song sound cool.
Well, you never know.
Wagakki band have already shown the way!
Do not be surprised if they introduce the following Japanese instruments:
-Taiko/japanese drums for Akane
-Shamisen (general Japanese version) and samisen (Okinawa version), biwa/an incredible Japanese kind of guitar much used in movies for dark or mysterious atmosphere.
-Koto/flat harp
-Shakuhachi/Japanese flute~recorder
have a nice day!
A recent discovery for me, but I love this band.
The chorus is great on this.
Ryan!
Getting cold here but your reaction warmed me up!
Thousands of fans may already have mentioned it:
Wagakki Band does the same as an integral part of their music.
Japanese instruments included in the back up:
-Shamisen/3-stringed traditional Japanese guitar played with a spectrum called bachi, a kind of giant pick.
Best regards,
Robert-Gilles
Good to wake up to your comment, Robert!
The lyrics of the Kyoto dialect.
LOL!
多分・・・それはMIKUのモエ・モエ・キューンのお呪いの魔力です。
ちなみに日本語の「OMAJINAI」という言葉には「呪い」という意味もあります。

We're lacking the language to speak about music. Well, music IS a language, and the only way to translate from one language to another is probably to use poetry. If you write some tanka about BAND-MAID music, then hopefully you may explain why their music is so meaningful for all of us Maidiacs.
The spacious sky
Spans serene and clear
So blue above,
Oh, that our soul could grow
And become so open!
In a world of storms
Let there be no wavering
Of our human hearts;
Remain as the pine tree
With root sunk deep in stone
You have a right pure soul
if you have nothing
ashamed of
in front of God
whom you cannot see.
It's from the poetry by the Emperor Meiji, in case you are curious.
Thank you, Vladimir!

Hell yeah
Band-Maid + running workout = enjoyable time
The only reason I stop is because I went through the songs.
Nothing can be done about it. Poetry is not really translatable to other languages. So, we all must learn Japanese!
@@VladimirChupin Wow, I'm so happy with your reply from the famous Maidiac.😍 I'm currently studying English because most of the reactors and comments are in English.😅 I'd be happy if maidiacs could learn Japanese as well.😄
本間に!Honma ni! Really!
@@robert-gillesmartineau1208 Hahaha, nice! But the correct kanji is 本真. おおきに(ohki ni)=Thank you.😄

Band-Maid for me is a phenomenon the likes I've never experienced to this degree in 65 years. I must listen to them every day. Their music just wraps around my soul and doesn't let go. Can't explain it any other way. But I do know that BAND-MAID are Awesome. Peace.
One and only is a theme song for a Japanese horror movie a few years ago.
Actually, a K-Drama, “Flower of Evil” (Korean: Akui Kkot)
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 🤙🏼
10:12 is my favorite part of the song
hahaha!..the opening makes me think of a sped up old silent back and white Japanese movie fight scene!..the accompanying sound effects..hehe!..ok just me then.
The live performance of One and Only is, as usual, spectacular. It's found at bandmaidprime, their DVD/BD, and the B website. The Band Maiko DVD/BD of the following songs is full of color and surprising sounds along with their beautiful performances and locations: (From Wikipedia)
"Secret Maiko Lips" was originally released as "Secret My Lips" on their album Just Bring It.[1]
"Tora and Tora" was originally released as "One and Only" on their album World Domination.[1] The title was taken from the maiko game "Tora-Tora", a type of rock paper scissors game, as well as having part of the lyrics refer to it.[8]
"Yolosiosu" was originally released as "YOLO" on their album Just Bring It.[1] It features the voices of children.[8]
"Ansan" was originally released as "Anemone" on their album World Domination.[1] The intro has a quote taken from the Man'yōshū.[8] The male vocals were contributed by their manager.[8]
"Akasimahen" was originally released as "Awkward" on their album Just Bring It.[1]
The original version of "Screaming" was released on their single "Start Over".[1]
"Gion-cho" is the sole original composition.[1] Lead guitarist Kanami Tōno intended to submit a demo for the song at the end of 2018, but it was not until January that she submitted it.[2]
