Time to get to know the ladies: Miku Kobato "Little Pigeon" - band founder - rhythm guitar and second vocals. Main lyricist. Claims to be an 810 year old pigeon and makes pigeon noises when she speaks. Po! Very good at poker, really into horses and horse racing. Very clumsy, may fall into ditches. Has the energy of an average nuclear power station mixed with weapons grade cuteness. A comedian onstage - literally! She is the heart and soul of the band.
Saiki Atsumi was "The Ice Queen" nowadays just "The Queen" - Lead vocalist and frontwoman. Was very shy in the early years and came across frosty in interviews because of that, hence the nickname - she has thawed out now though! The youngest member at 30. Into train spotting (really)! and collecting trainers (sports shoes). Very girly, is a fashion icon and ex model. Designs a lot of the bands merch. Really into Baseball and the Hanshin Tigers. Don't mess with her you will lose. But she has a heart of gold and a killer dry sense of humour. Recently started writing lyrics. Has final say on songs. Kanami Tono - "Kanamincho" but usually just "Mincho" for short. Lead guitar and an absolute genius songwriter. Total riff machine. Has two personas. Normally a tiny cute shy very polite lady who seems very innocent (the band have to explain dirty jokes to her). Until she puts on her guitar. As the band say: "then she gets quite violent" - she turns into the shredding rock star she is. Takes guitar off, back to the little girl. Likes cakes, coffee and is totally infatuated by Saiki. She adores Saiki very much, to everyone's amusement. Akane Hirose - "The Gorilla" on Drums. Seems to be the sane member of the band, but is actually the band clown. Has an enormous appetite, seen eating in a lot of MV's. Eats a lot of bananas including on stage, hence the nickname. But she is terrible at actual cooking. Usually has a big grin on her face while drumming manically, Akane was also a DJ (under the name DJ Achi) and likes dancing and goofing with MISA. She also plays trombone! MISA (all caps, no last name) "The Barefoot Assassin" on bass. An absolute bass prodigy, MISA is very shy onstage (and a total clown offstage with Akane). Nickname comes from the fact she plays barefoot and looks like an assassin. Because of shyness often drinks onstage, you can often spot a bottle of Jim Beam on her amp. She drinks it neat. Lately drinking more beer than whiskey though, good girl. Doesn't say much, but when she does it's usually totally hilarious! At a lot of concerts you will hear the fans chanting MISA! MISA! MISA! which has become a slogan.
These are some good intros. I'd like to add a few more random points: Miku - The band's concept was her idea, having worked at Maid Cafes prior. Leader of "Omajinai Time" or "Magic Spell Time," a little MC ritual that is carried over from the maid cafes. Miku also has a solo side project "Cluppo". She didn't play guitar when the band was formed, but when Saiki joined, she took a step back from vocals and became solely backing vocals and learned guitar for a better balance in the band. She showed immense humility and foresight in doing so, and did it to better the band. Her guitar teacher is Kanami! Saiki - Really into fashion and sneakers (Nike) as mentioned. Didn't play an instrument but has been learning guitar and piano, and even performed while playing piano on a few occasions! Had vocal chord polyps surgery around 2017 I think. She acts as the general director of the band, often deciding the setlists and order, and other things. Kanami - The main composer. Song ideas start from her with direction or ideas from the other members, and then MISA and Akane write their own parts in detail, and Kanami brings it all back together. Wanted to become a singer songwriter but didn't really like to sing as part of the performance and really wanted to just play guitar. Recently recognized by PRS with her own signature model. Akane - Maybe the only actual extrovert of the band. Lovable and friendly, the band used her to break the ice with other bands at festivals. A big eater as mentioned, and loves anime. Wears her heart on her sleeve and has shown to get very emotional at concerts! Good friends with MISA even before the band came together. MISA - second youngest but acts like the baby of the band. Loves being praised (especially from Saiki). A fan of grunge rock. Her signature is drinking on stage, and there is even a mini ceremony during MC time of her cracking open a beer. Not actually the biggest drinker of the band (Miku and Saiki probably have her beat). Her onstage persona (very cool and collected) is unlike her true personality. I suggest checking out the documentaries put together by "Ohrenje" on each member. They are great little intros to get to know each member better!
*BAND-MAID* was featured in the Netflix movie KATE, and *Choose Me* was performed in a night club scene of the movie. Also *Blooming* was on the radio in a car chase scene 🚗🚓🚙
"Choose Me" -- a song featured in the Netflix original movie "KATE" and the HBO Max series Peacemaker as BAND MAID, has so many great RnR chops, it's kinda unbelievable. From Saiki's old-school phrasing, cadence and a super soulful vocal at the end; MISA's driving bass, her special riff after Kanami's brilliant, rocking main solo (complete with harmonic pinch), and her pulls at the end of the song that really funks it up with Akane's drumming; to Kanami's original composition, off-beat octave stretches during the verses, and her addition of a second uncomplicated yet super tasty solo; to Akane's unique snare & tom flurry that launches the choruses; and to Miku's octave-down, in & out vocal backup and lyrics... all makes "Choose Me" a throwback rocker that surprised me when I first heard it - and I'll bet most anyone - that they would come up with this western-style, rock 'n roll classic. Of course, after years later, it's not surprising at all coming from this important band of geniuses who are, along with The Warning band, almost single-handedly bringing back the joy of rock. Here's a great live MV of "Choose Me" that's not quite as punchy do to the mix, but still good: th-cam.com/video/HcqitbXgigU/w-d-xo.html Thx, Eren!
Glad you received Band-Maid so well. If you like Misa's bass you should react to Manners, BLACK HOLE (Official Live Video) It'll give you a reason to brag why you like her.
Don't worry mate. Yes- the Band-Maid/The Warning collab. Both bands have been wanting to do it for a couple of years now and it has brought a lot crossovers between fans of both bands. But for me, like a lot of collabs, it didn't show either band at the best that they can be. One collab that did work for me recently was with a guy from the band Incubus, with a song called Bestie- try it and see. Different vibe altogether. Misa (Bass) is probably the fave of most fans. Misa, Misa Misa, no shoes but plenty of style and genius bass lines on stage. Great reaction- Thanks (UK)
Yes, MISA is also a lead player and do play interesting stuff on her bass. She also go up on the fretboard to higher notes which make it sound more and she also do slides.
Welcome to the world of BAND-MAID. I really enjoyed your reaction, thank you. You can hear MISA coming to the front and playing the songs "NO GOD" and "PLAY."
Domination live in Diver City 2020, Don't You Tell Me, and Hate? both from live at Yokohama Arena , all have bass hi-lghts and solo battles with the guitar. Good luck with channel, I am sure the Maidiacs will be there for you. We need Band Maid to come to Australia soon. All Australian reactors join the Blooming group please. Eren , Go For it .
This is the song that hooked me in the spring of 2022. I kept listening to it and played it for other people. Most said it’s in Japanese, so why listen to it if you cannot understand it. Needless to say I was not swayed. 7 Band-Maid concerts including a trip to Japan.
I haven't liked any of their collabs personally. It's simple enough to by-pass them. I'm pretty sure they keep all the best material for themselves. As they should. No band hits it out of the park every time but Band-Maid does it more often than other bands to me, like around 96% of the time.
New Subby from Aust. Was watchin your previous reactions and took note when you said you like to hear some more "double kicks" from Akane. WEEELLLLL ... Every man an his dog will tell you to check out "Hate" live - I gotta say it will be one of the best live performances you will ever witness. 90% of the focus is on Misa (Bassist) an Kanami (lead Guitarist) during their "duel", however ... please listen out for Akane on the sticks. I'd love a dollar for every double kick she does in this song. I'm glad your startin out with some of their older stuff as this is what reeled us all in in the first place ... Just a suggestion - keep goin with the older stuff an work your way up (except for "Hate" haha). Once you've done every video ever released from them (and you will) don't be afraid to check out songs that don't have clips as they have soooooo many hidden gems. Just a few to keep in mind - "Onset" official live (an instrumental - one of many) - "Warning" MV fast pace that'll blow you away - "Dice" MV and the one that saved them from disbanding all them years ago ..."Thrill" MV .............. There's 4, but I can honestly tell you, I could ramble of at least 30 straight off the top of my head without repeating one - they ARE that good. If these guys don't grow your channel, no one will haha. Darren, Western Vic.
Glad to know you weren’t into “Show Them.” It’s telling me that you’re going to be more of a Maid purist (like me 😊) MISA is a bassist with the musical character reminiscent of Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, or Flea. Not in playing style, but with such a commanding presence that no band would dare bury the bass in a mix. If she’s playing it, then it needs to be heard! “Choose Me” is a catchy one. It was only their third single (and the B-side to “Daydreaming”) It got traction in Japan and was their show finale in their early club days. It’s still such a popular song that Band Maid performed it twice at the Yokohama Arena 10th Anniversary Concert. Once as a band and once with Saiki solo on piano. And it was the only song allowed to be recorded by fans in attendance that night. It’s a classic!
Couldn't agree with you more about your opinion on that Warning collab. It's the Only song they're associated with that I skip over. Unlike other Band-Maid songs, where even if it doesn't hit you in the chest immediately, upon successive listens their genius reveals itself and you're like, "Oh! Ok, there it is! My ear just needed to catch up to it." That happened to me with their song 'Influecer" but definitely not with"Show Them" Miku Kobato - (Rhythm Guitarist / Band founder) stated in an interview that, Kanami - ( Lead Guitarist / compser) wrote the framework for the song and forwaded it to the warning. Where upon hearing it, they (the warning) decided It was too unlike anything that they'd play. So the warnings song writing team made changes and sent it back for review. The song went back and forth several times until as Miku further stated that the end result was unrecognizable from the original song that Kanami had written. A clear example of too many cooks spoiling the soup.🤮 Good news is minus this one outlier you will never hear anything like that discordant mess again in Band-Maid's 140+ song discography. You're good to go, free and clear from this point forward.
The Warning are excellent in their own right. I put BAND-MAID above most everyone, but The Warning is really talented, particularly for their age and experience.
The collaboration with The Warning had more meaning behind it than being a banger. I like it, but it was more special to the fan base of both bands. Seeing live was epic. 🤘
I like "Show Them", but not nearly as much as their other music. I found that song to not really have Band-Maid's sound. Saiki was also singing a lot higher than she usually does, and it really did not sound like her style at all.
Not a huge fan of their collabs myself in the main tbh. Common view is the one you didn't like was probably their most successful attempt so you might want to skip the others. 😂
ErenNeverBloom , Your probably gonna get comments to do the live version , but in my opinion the MV is better cause you can see the Band better n the solo`s , MISA !!! MISA !!! MISA !!! the Barefoot Bass Assassin .
Subscribed. Great performance and reaction! BAND-MAID is awesome🔥🔥. If you would like to explore more and expand your channel, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They are unique and have a worldwide fan base (The One). Their music has a positive and uplifting message. They have a fun and awesome performance: BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat.
