Typically, yes, if you contact the carrier to unlock your phone, it'll keep working as intended.

Contact Verizon directly to review your account. They typically can help unlock a phone 60 days after activation.

Once the balance is paid your phone will be unlocked. You just cant have a balance or contract with verizon. The phone automatically gets unlocked once you pay them. ​@BestBuy

SIM Free and Unlocked mean the same thing, but the term Unlocked is more commonly used in the United States.

From my experience, factory unlocked Moto G phones perform better than network locked Moto G phones.

Issue with unlocked phones is you sometimes can run into slower data speeds and no wifi calling and other network phones have.
