    The opening statement gave us goosebumps: "Whether or not your painting turns out I think it's always worth it." We think so too! There's no such thing as wasted art supplies, except the ones that go bad in storage because they never got to be used. We derive so much good from the experience of making art- yes, Emily, it is always worth it, and your videos make a convincing case for that!

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yay! Thank you for that-if my videos can inspire more people to paint for the love of it, then I’ve done my job. ❤️

    Thats the whole point about plein air painting. You get it all. Excercise plus art and a different sight getting out and fresh air. Well done.

    Hullo Emily! What a glorious trek! I have seen several other Plein-Air painters us a diffuser or umbrella not so much for shade for yourself but for your painting surface! It can work for both, but getting that shade for my paper is so key for me to get a good look at my painting as I work! I know James Gurney has his own remedy and it is an add on for his palette! I am sure yours is similar enough to fit right on to yours! Most are so light they are also good for hikers too! I think you did exceptionally well getting multiple paintings on your outing! I have gone out and been so exhausted that I did not paint a lick! So good on you young Lady! Here's hoping we see more next video!

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it’s probably time to get a diffuser of some sort! James Gurney has definitely solved the problem. :-) He’s brilliant!

    I went out today and attempted my first plein air ! Oh boy it looks like a five year old did it, I was totally overwhelmed. Didn’t have a clue where to start. 😂. But I absolutely loved it. So many people spoke to me and it was just so much fun.
    I will definitely go out again and do it, hey I can only improve right…

    The paintings are beautiful! The "wood" in the rock is actually mica which has been used as a fine, natural glitter in things like cosmetics and even watercolors. Other precious gems, like garnets, are often found with mica too.

    Beautiful area to hike in and paint. One could use up a brand new pad of paper if one were to stop at every scenic spot and paint. Makes one want to get out and hike. Right now however it is ninety something soon after sunup, a hundred plus around noon, and even 5he evening temps are not conducive to hiking. Guess I will just drive over to my next sketching spot and set up just outside the car. -OkieSketcher1949

    I love this! I always loved hiking out like this, but that was before I started painting seriously. I start out now, and find things to paint before I get where I intend to go!. I do better taking pics and painting at home because I live in the AZ desert where it was 110 yesterday, and so dry, water dries on the brush before you get to the paper!

    How did the paintings look when you got them indoors out of the direct sunlight? I've been struggling this season with painting in direct light and finding everything too dark when I get it home. Later this summer I'm going to build a Gurney-style easel (essentially what you use in this video, only with a gadget attached at the top) so that I can deploy a light defuser.
    Thanks as always for sharing your wonderful content.
