It’s worse than I expected.. but it’s really not bad. My lifted v8 tundra got 12 and my lifted Tacoma gets 16… so considering the raptor has a boosted v8 and 37’s 13.5 is actually pretty solid
I have a 2001 Excursion 7.3, the best mileage I ever had loaded with 7 passengers and the back full of luggage, just over 19 mpg going from Grand Junction to Durango CO. I consistently get 18 plus running expressways at 75 mph, around town 9 to 13 mpg all starting and stopping. I think I will just keep putting about $1,200.00 into it per year for maintenance 😊
In Los Angeles, California, the local dealership had the Shelby American Super Snake for $141,000, which is dealership price. They also have the black F150 Raptor R, for $230,000 again dealership price. As much as the Raptor R is more built for off road, there was also the F150 Roush Off road at $94,000 in 7 years I'll buy the Roush. Currently, driving a 2022 Roush Mustang with the 3rd Pedal 6 Speed Manual Transmission. Therefore, markups are still up
I had a 2014 Roush Supercharged Raptor that got 12 mpg. Gets old fast. My Gen 2 gets 15 mpg average and with a 36 gallon tank that’s 100 more miles per tank.
Curious how the H.O. Ecoboost compares on power. A 6.2 with a TVS is probably a lot quicker but the regular gen 1 Ecoboost I drove a long time ago still impresses me to this day. A much lighter aluminum body truck with more power and a 10 speed should be even more impressive.
Yeah I get it. My wife’s older Lexus V6 needs to fill up every 2 weeks. Our Lexus hybrid will arrive in 3 weeks and with a 14 gallon tank, she will get ~500 miles per tank, which is probably fill up once a month.
@@302Mustang13 The 20104 was heavier. The Gen 2 is not quite as fast as the Gen with the 6.2L. Off the line for the first 100 feet I would say they are close. The 6.2 will pull away at the end of the 1/4 mile.

I have an R.. couldn't care less what it costs to fill.. all I care about is the fuel capacity, which is 36, so I don't have to constantly fill it up. Good test none the less.

Yes ridiculous pricing. Their 2014 Raptor 6.2 cost 55k, which inflation adjusted is 69k....now only 9 year later this one cost 41k more even on inflation adjusted numbers?? Cmon, they continue to price themselves out of sales and this will come back on all of these manufacturers.
I own a Gen 1 6.2, and to be fair, the comparable base Gen 3 isn't all that far off that inflation adjustment. Cars and trucks in general are getting crazy, but you have to acknowledge that the R is a different animal.

The problem with the trx is that it’s full time 4wd so I think that’s why you guys have it on awd because if you leave it on 2wd it would be better on gas .
Both the R and the TRX are insane. TRX has no option but 4x4 and the R probably ran 2 wheel drive most the time, so that is a likely explanation on the MPG difference.
No see you got that confused they both have 4 x 4 the TRX is a full-time 4 wheel drive with a center differential now the Raptor typar is part-time four-wheel drive with the transfer case
If you run around in this truck a thousand miles a month, it's fuel consumption might add $100 a month to your fuel bill. For some people that's a lot, but for a person who's paying $2,000 a month in capital payoff and insurance, it's just part of the enjoyment of owning this car.
If you did that entire route in 4A that would be at least a half a mpg difference as well. Once ont the highway the roads were clear so hopefully you took it out. Kudos for doing the mpg test in normal mode,all tests should be done that way.
Not only that Roman was definitely driving faster than traffic, F150s immediately get less efficient once you get over 70. I bet if you were on the highway at 65-68 you would eek out 18-19mpg in 2wd.
I would take 13.5 with the performance of a Raptor R. I have a Gen 2 and can't get 13 mpg after the engine failure/cam phaser replacement. Ford keeps saying nothing wrong with this.
Who cares what your fuel economy is. If you are driving a TRX or a Raptor, you don’t care about fuel economy. But the real thing is. I’d much rather have the TRX than a Ford anything. The real question is, where is the Chevrolet/GMC performance truck. Is there such a thing?

I own a TRX and filling it up with 93 octane doesn't bother me at all. This truck is so stupid, so rowdy and and so fun, you get every penny's worth back in sheer fun driving theme stupid thing. Literally every single mundane commute has my giggling like a little girl. It's that stupid fun.
I have a trx on 37x13.5 18 BFGs and get 11mpg mixed 14mpg on hwy My lifted 2016 landcruiser on 35’s got worse MPGs If the the truck would go into 2wd only might squeeze 1 more mpg
Better MPGs than I thought... At some point, I believe Ford is going to get the Lightning and Raptor together and make a love child. An electric Raptor would be interesting and plenty quick, but it's no V8.
2014 Raptor (added Whipple supercharger) was iconic, 2017 was pathetic and sounded like a Dyson vacuum. 22' TRX daily with SLP's replacing factory resonators is perfection. Point is the V8 experience/sound/aura is organic... like an iconic rollercoaster in which the sounds of the track, wood trestles, etc. combine into an emotional experience. Something EV vehicles with their clinical/appliance aura will never replace. TRX was down for a month awaiting a new radiator, ahem 'Flower Child' era neighbors commented "Oh finally, you sold 'that thing' (seeing the rental/loaner). Glad it's back for the early morning cold starts.... if you don't get an HOA letter sometime in life, you're doing it wrong : )

You don't buy any truck with off-road focused anything if you value mpgs. If you don't need it just get a regular version. The Ranger Tremor only gets 17 city 20 highway or something like that versus 20/24 for a regular 4wd version.

I drive very conservatively in my Ranger Tremor.....mostly highway and rural...after 2 years of ownership I'm consistently pulling 23mpg overall avg or 10L/100km I run 93 octane and expect a mild bump in the summer time. The truck is stock but I did change out the tires which aids the mileage greatly....dropped the M/T's for Goodrich Trail Terrains...they are sufficient for the back roads and mild trails I need to access. Great little truck

I've had a 9mpg tank with our 22' TRX.... lengthy/memorable off-road day with friends. The memories are well worth the cost. No one says "Wow Bill, glad we took the Camry Hybrid today!" or "Chad, so happy we decided to use hand paddles and not the gluttonous engines on your Pontoon boat!"
I mistakenly thought Ford had a better idea and to me, that would include a better fuel economy. Maybe Ford needs to go back to the future and take a second look at the second-gen raptor engines.
Typical Ford, I drove a Ranger for a week, had to turn off all the driver assit crap. It made me look like a drunk driver swerving back and forth. Kept telling me I was about to get in an accident even when sitting stopped at a light, when a semi would drive by. Adaptive cruise would nearly rearend a vehicle then slam on the brakes slow down then accelerate and do it all over again. It was scary to drive that Ranger with all the Assist enabled.
I have a 2023 3.5 with the 37's, I have about 2500 miles on it, and so far it's around 13-15 in town and pushes 17 on road trips with my light driving style ( old man) and occasional drag races in town.
It's an awesome truck and 13.5 MPG isn't bad!And to the people complaining about it's cost.....it's not supposed to be attainable for the average person. It's a "super" truck. Enjoy watching videos of it and dream/figure out how to make residual income to afford it. Not everything in life should be accessible to all.
Guessing those 37s don’t help the fuel mileage at all. Switch to the 35s that the stock Raptor and the TRX have and you would be closer to the 16 the stock Raptor got I’m guessing.
The 3.5 Raptor can exceed 20 mpg if drive reasonably, throttle house reported 22, it is after all the same engine as the run of the mill F150's that manage 24. Drive the speed limit you'd be surprised what those turbo's will deliver.
@@Steve-yr5vi I have a 37" 2023 Raptor 3.5 and you'd be reaaaaaaaaaly hard pressed to get 20 MPG out of one. I'm talking maybe going 45 MPH with hardly any stops on some back road. My average over 3K miles is 16 MPG.
It would be interesting to know the demands on the engine to maintain say, 70 mph on the road. 38 hp, 100 hp? How often are those powerhouse vehicles ever at their full potential? Without the nannies, you could probably spin the tires at 100 mph with the torque available😁.
Probably more than you think. The aerodynamics are pretty poor on this vehicle (lifted wide-body trucks are literally bricks flying in the wind), it would probably lose speed very quickly when off the throttle. Not to mention those massive AT tires would have a large rolling resistance coefficient plus the large amount of static weight added from their rotating mass . At 70 MPH, the resistant forces acting against this vehicle would be much greater than the forces acting against a regular f150 at the same speed. So this vehicle would need more output to maintain that speed. All that being said, I don't think you could spin tires in a vehicle like this at 100 mph. You'd need less weight , less grip and noticeably more horse power 😅

Incredible power, but horrid fuel economy for everyday living. If you don't blink at the price tag for that Raptor R, you won't care about the gas mileage. That is a small percentage of real world owners. As for the automated driving "aids," I think they are more of a PITA to use due to tech glitches, and they're certainly more of a hazard due to drivers using them to be more distracted. Look at the accidents involving Tesla's "autopilot" mode that isn't ready to be an "autopilot." The tech needs much more development and refinement.
If you want and can afford this truck you probably don’t care about fuel mileage in the first place. Or you would be buying the maverick if you cared or something similar for the mpg. I’d take the Raptor or TRX …..

Those 7.3l v8 Powerstroke diesels were Bulletproof always wanted an Excursion with a 7.3 say no to 6.0 I'd even opt for the v10 over that

I agree with you on the Gen lol. My light foot gets me 18.9-19.4 in mine. Love the performance and the ability to save money at the pump.

Not to take away from the awesome video, but as an Alaskan my favorite part is seeing all the snow melting.
Personally I love my Gen 2. I prefer the 3.5 because of the fuel consumption and its not hard to get it over 700hp.

He’s correct as a TRX owner it stays in AWD . The Raptor stays in 2wd until you switch it.

I've had a 9mpg tank with our 22' TRX.... lengthy/memorable off-road day with friends. The memories are well worth the cost. No one says "Wow Bill, glad we took the Camry Hybrid today!" or "Chad, so happy we decided to use hand paddles and not the gluttonous engines on your Pontoon boat!"
I mistakenly thought Ford had a better idea and to me, that would include a better fuel economy. Maybe Ford needs to go back to the future and take a second look at the second-gen raptor engines.

Typical Ford, I drove a Ranger for a week, had to turn off all the driver assit crap. It made me look like a drunk driver swerving back and forth. Kept telling me I was about to get in an accident even when sitting stopped at a light, when a semi would drive by. Adaptive cruise would nearly rearend a vehicle then slam on the brakes slow down then accelerate and do it all over again. It was scary to drive that Ranger with all the Assist enabled.
2-wheel drive should of been used plus 37in tires vs 35 on the trx
trx is actually full time awd so it's ok, both about same set
GD. Just filled up with 91 in TX for $3.79.
Most people who buy these most likely have other more fuel efficient cars to drive along side this

Curious what the MPG on a Raptor 37 is I would imagine somewhere between the base Raptor and the R
I have a 2023 3.5 with the 37's, I have about 2500 miles on it, and so far it's around 13-15 in town and pushes 17 on road trips with my light driving style ( old man) and occasional drag races in town.
Fuel mileage is the least of anyone's concern especially when buying something like this
"If you want more horsepower and a slower truck, buy the Hemi" lol.

It's an awesome truck and 13.5 MPG isn't bad!And to the people complaining about it's cost.....it's not supposed to be attainable for the average person. It's a "super" truck. Enjoy watching videos of it and dream/figure out how to make residual income to afford it. Not everything in life should be accessible to all.
Are we starting to see the upside of manufacturer requiring to build eco electric cars, so that they can continue to build us these powerhouses?

Guessing those 37s don’t help the fuel mileage at all. Switch to the 35s that the stock Raptor and the TRX have and you would be closer to the 16 the stock Raptor got I’m guessing.
The 3.5 Raptor can exceed 20 mpg if drive reasonably, throttle house reported 22, it is after all the same engine as the run of the mill F150's that manage 24. Drive the speed limit you'd be surprised what those turbo's will deliver.
@@Steve-yr5vi I have a 37" 2023 Raptor 3.5 and you'd be reaaaaaaaaaly hard pressed to get 20 MPG out of one. I'm talking maybe going 45 MPH with hardly any stops on some back road. My average over 3K miles is 16 MPG.

I’ll stick with my Lightning. Just as quick, better suspension for commuting and it a little cheaper to buy.
It would be interesting to know the demands on the engine to maintain say, 70 mph on the road. 38 hp, 100 hp? How often are those powerhouse vehicles ever at their full potential? Without the nannies, you could probably spin the tires at 100 mph with the torque available😁.
Probably more than you think. The aerodynamics are pretty poor on this vehicle (lifted wide-body trucks are literally bricks flying in the wind), it would probably lose speed very quickly when off the throttle. Not to mention those massive AT tires would have a large rolling resistance coefficient plus the large amount of static weight added from their rotating mass . At 70 MPH, the resistant forces acting against this vehicle would be much greater than the forces acting against a regular f150 at the same speed. So this vehicle would need more output to maintain that speed. All that being said, I don't think you could spin tires in a vehicle like this at 100 mph. You'd need less weight , less grip and noticeably more horse power 😅

@@EastCoastFrank I will admit the raptor is a smooth riding truck but as far as capabilities go, I can do anything that 95% of drivers have ever done in any raptor with a 4 cylinder Chevy, Except acceleration of course.
@@macbook802 agreed! There’s no denying the capability of the raptor in any form. I don’t own one personally. I have a 2022 trail boss midnight edition with the 6.2 lol I never think fuel mileage. I fill my tank and smile like hell when I hear the roar lol 😂

Not sure I believe Ford loses by 2 HP in reality. The Ford wins the drag race on 37" tires. They have a tendency to sand bag their numbers.

How old? JK with v6 pentastar? I had good mpg empty, but both 3.7 F150 and the Pentastar goes down to 13s when loaded with tools

I don’t think you buy these type of trucks for the mpg. And they are over priced like Superman is over powered
The engineering explained guy said DO NOT reduce octane because you are at higher elevations.
It's not about MPG. 😂 It's about Smiles per gallon.
Incredible power, but horrid fuel economy for everyday living. If you don't blink at the price tag for that Raptor R, you won't care about the gas mileage. That is a small percentage of real world owners.
As for the automated driving "aids," I think they are more of a PITA to use due to tech glitches, and they're certainly more of a hazard due to drivers using them to be more distracted. Look at the accidents involving Tesla's "autopilot" mode that isn't ready to be an "autopilot." The tech needs much more development and refinement.
If you want and can afford this truck you probably don’t care about fuel mileage in the first place. Or you would be buying the maverick if you cared or something similar for the mpg. I’d take the Raptor or TRX …..
Keep in mind...the RaptorR has bigger tires.
