I agree but he lost me with ancient age. That’s some rot gut nasty whiskey. Imo ancient age and Kentucky gentleman are some of the nastiest Iv ever had.
I bought a bottle of Elmer for around 37 bucks 6 years ago. Mixed well with my Mexican Coca Cola’s.
Ancient Ancient Age may be as hard to find as Elmer T Lee.
I can find it moderately regularly here in Alabama but only because they have an app where I can check inventory and got to the right store.
I was a receiver for a major liquor chain in KY for almost 2 years and I never saw one bottle of ancient ancient age come in the back door. Even the 90 was like 1 case every month or two.

When Justified was airing on TV you could buy one of the ten bottles of Elmer T on your local liquor store shelf with ease. Now Justified is easy to find on Hulu, but Elmer T is nowhere to be seen.

Preach! That used to be a $35 bottle and it was good for that price IMO. I used to buy it when I wanted to splurge a little bit over a bottle of BT and not as much for Blanton’s. At least it’s a good sipper at the end of the day and not an overhyped cocktail mixer like McKenna
THIS. It was my go to at the same price. Some of the small batches were amazing and some were just good.
That's it. It was good. A little carmely-sweet as i recall. I liked it. But not for a couple hundred bucks.

@@TL_454Some say they won it because it was a honey barrel. Finding one just as good would be like hitting the lottery. But I agree, I want a 10 year that tastes more like an Old Rip or at least a Russell's Reserve 10 yr or Eagle Rare. I think the consistency on all those is much higher.

Same with pappy van winkle stuff. Tastes like a $70 bottle of booze.
Pappy is worth the price. But the Elmer T Lee is average whisky at best
@@Sigenjoyer9000 Pappy is absolutely not worth thousands of dollars a bottle to me, simply based on taste. It's a good whiskey and I'm happy that it's successful and there are people willing to pay that price, and nothing against any of them. If you have the money and you enjoy it you should absolutely buy it... But I'm annoyed that it's difficult for the rest of us plebs to get some lol.
Sometimes people believe that paying more money means getting a better product. Especially if there is more interest in that product. Even though an inexpensive bottle may be of high quality, it's low price may mislead the customer into thinking it's a lesser product

It’s a collectors item at this point. I see so many posts online of guys showing off their collection. 100’s of bottles and none of them open. To each their own but don’t buy into the hype.
I like Elmer T Lee, can’t find it anymore, but I liked it before the prices went nuts and it became impossible to find.
I just bought and loved Bird Dogs Peach Whiskey at target for $18. Drank it near. Smooth and sweet.
I was balking when it was $50. But it just continued to go up in price and it seems more people keep chasing it. I can understand those who are attached to it for sentimental reasons. Everyone else should be checked.
ETL is a single barrel and one of the best modern bourbons i ever had was a ETL private barrel pick from a whiskey club. But in the end, it's a single barrel. I feel like we've all experienced the highs and lows of single barrels.

I Used to buy it a lot when it was cheap, now I pretty much avoid. Been just buying one of the many good value readily available bourbons, Woodford Double Oak at the moment is my go to.
In drank it all the broke back when it was $30-40 and available. Still have a couple. But I wouldn’t pay more that $50 to replace it
I know you are just trying to get views by doing this, and I love your videos, but I have to 100% disagree with you on this. Buffalo Trace is one of my favorites, but it is not as good as Elmer T Lee. Blanton's is definitely not as good as Elmer T Lee. Everyone's taste is different, but Elmer T Lee is one of the best tasting, smoothest, full of flavors I have ever tried. Is it over priced. Yes! Way over priced. But to say Buffalo Trace and Blanton's is better is simply a statement to get views. I would love to see what Matt at ADHD Whiskey says about that. Just curious. I love your show! It's just the hype. That it. People think the more a bottle is the better. One of my favorite bourbons is wild turkey 101. Hands down better than most I have tried. And we all know that shit ain't that expensive

The hype on this one shows the hype over ANYTHING Buffalo Trace makes. Its like, because they produce the Pappy and Weller lines, ANY juice they age, must be legendary AF. Like, I dont think anything they make is a loser, its all solid whiskey.. but its going to get too the point where, if they make it, its allocated and no one can buy it.
Elmer is better than Ancient Age by a landslide. Elmer and Blantons are Mash Bill #2. Blanton's is just as overhyped. You answered your own question. It's made by Buffalo Trace. Once they took over Pappy, things over crazy and over hyped. You know this. Why are you asking?

It’s the 100 year anniversary bottle that made it really crazy I feel like. Cause that stuff was stupid amazing and special… I feel like if it weren’t for that bottle. Standard Elmer would be around the same secondary as Blantons. $90-$100 max

I've never been a Bourbon drinker, im a Vodka guy and that's only a couple times a year but I've seen almost your videos and if I every can find it im grabbing a bottle of Blanton's! I gotta see if it lives up to the hype. I'm not camping out for a bottle but I think I'll check around Saturday. I don't expect to find it in my zero stop light town in S.C. but I'm gonna give it a try.
Elmo tea pea, originated 1907 distilled by master foragers with oat notes and crispy leaf textures makes that bottle worth every penny do your research

A product with a story behind it was easy to find everyday drinker. The popularity began to rise do to the story of Elmer and the distillery, this helped feed the flames. Production of several different products that used barrels that may have been made into Elmer's product. This increased want. History and lore, with an affordable product, created a cult following. It dose not hurt that Buffalo Trace has some of the best bourbon on the market year after year. It can just be said that people will spend what they feel it's worth if they want it bad enough.
It's the community's fault in short.

I was the manager of a liquor store in Virginia before and during the beginning of the bourbon crazy. If I only knew, I'd have stocked up on the easily available bottles that are impossible to find now.
the tv show Justifed had elmer t in it and pappy too. that is one of the reasons.

As a scotch man I can easily answer this. Whisk(e)y in general suffers from ots own cool factor. I believe it's a fad thing and most nee Whisk(e)y fans would rather chase a bottle than appreciate it. Set up a distillery or bottle and make having it a status thing. You are not the contents of your bar.

Elmer T used to be easy to find. I liked it. I would have bought five or six more bottles if I'd have known I couldn't get more. But I sure as shit am not paying two hundred bucks for a bottle because I don't even remember what it tasted like.
But Blanton's is only slightly easier to find unfortunately.
