It looks a lot better than the previous 890 adventure! But there is something in my head that warns me to buy one, and that's the reliability of this bike. Maybe they have al the weak points make better but I still choose my T7 when I ride all the way to South Africa. Thanks for making this video mate! 🙏👍
Same. The 790/890 are not known to be the most reliable bikes. And i don't like that KTM fits all the electronics on this bike by standard and then the customer can either buy them or not. And if he/she decides not to buy them, technically it's all still there, just disabled via software..

I’m not expecting BMW or Honda quality, but it seems the overall reliability became worse on the newer models. Also separately purchasing software for hardware that’s already on the bike is a big red flag in my book.

Cool review, I can really relate to the opinion on what the beauty is in the 780/890 range, the functionality, engineered and less compromises. Not really the look, but the 2023 looks alot better from the flank. I liked that You demonstrated how it feels to lean and lift, this is something that really sticks out among the top-heavy "competitors". Happy new and shining Trails out there!

Easy to disassemble is not a Word I would attribute to my 1290 SAS 😂 To change chain slider for instance you basically have to semi-remove rear tire and swingarm, front sprocket and clutchslave etc 👏
Did you find the limits of the suspension of this bike on the tracks you did? Bottoming out, ground clearance, control over bumpy or rocky situations, going fast, …? Asking because I am not sure if I need the R or the standard one…
Honestly, I was expecting the "adv" version to be more limited... I also thought i would definitely need the "R" version, but after trying this one I KINDA changed my mind. You only need the R version if you plan to ride like a maniac on super hard environments :)
Highly interesting video and first impression! In the market for potential down-scaling from a 2019 1290SAS that has served me remarkably well for >55.000 kilometers. Minus one niggle dealt with under warranty (starter clutch) it's been brilliant. Didn't fancy or like the 2022 890. And not only because of its mantis appearance. This however, looks like something. It strikes me KTM might finally have brought back some design lines from 990. Looking forwards to updates!
Hey man! I dont' think I can write anything that you haven't read/seen before. Basically one is a big enduro bike (the 690), the other is a medium sized adventure bike.... they are not really comparable I think. Both are great, but choosing one or the other will depend greatly on what your really want (and know how) to do :o Sorry for a useless answer, but that question cant be answered in a short text :P
Hello! I would still go for the norden (or the 890r) cause i value off road performance. For me, it would make no sense to chose the least offroad capable of the 3 (even if it still is quite good)
Great first impression video! The seat sits over 33 inches correct? Do you know if there is a lowering kit for this bike? Have your road the R version of this bike? If so what do you think and how do they compare? Do you see this bike as an everyday bike or all arounder? Thanks
thanks for the video. For me the problem with KTM is its electronic and mechanical reliability, the 790 gave different problems in this regard. and by 2023 KTM is going to sell it again!!!, I hope that without problems as recurring as the model from 3 years ago
I find it hard to recommend bikes cause I dont know you, or what you want to do with your motorcycles :/ There are no wrong bikes, only wrong choices :P This being said, KTM 890 is my favorite offroad ADV bike (890 Adventure, 890 R, Norden 901, its all the same thing with slightly different flavours), so here you have my answer :D
@@OFFroadOFFcourse thank you! I am keen to do road and offroad riding, i hope 50/50 but in the UK offroad is difficult to find, so probably 70/30. I plan to bring my bike twice a year to Portugal wher i hope to do more offroad for the months i am here
The 901 is a slightly more comfort oriented bike, and the R is a slightly lighter bike with better suspensions. I guess if you focus on offroas (and know how to ride fast and hard) the 890R could be a better choice. I was quite happy with the 901 honestly, but extremelly curious for the 890r
Very helpful insights on the bike! I've been eyeing the 901, and the changes KTM made seem to come from the 901, with bigger fairings. The KTM still looks slimmer, but since you've ridden both can you comment on if the bike feels slimmer, and if there are any riding position changes that affect the ergos you praised?
Definitely not :) My preferred look is the very first 790 Adventure and Adventure R. They was pretty uniques in kind with very strong visual signature from Kiska. The new versions looks more like "every others" in my opinion
Ciao! Neanche l'ho presa in considerazione.
The 790 makes no sense. It's basically the same bike. It's not even like they have used the old 790 engine, the new 790 has the same heavier flywheel and clutch changes as the 22 890. Unless they are going dirt cheap, the 890 is the better buy.
Since you've done this review I've had Harley take back the Pan America because it was too unreliable. They had a 2018 KTM 1290 SA-R that I got but kinda knew it would be a bit too large for me. It was. So I have a 2022 890 Adventure S model. I love the bike it is so much fun to ride. I've had two issues, the screen going completely black on a ride. When I fueled up it came back on. The TFT display also gets the condensation in side that other KTM owners have complained of. It goes away as well but I assume that moisture inside the electronic dash is not good. Other than that I love the bike and I've heard that the 2023 version's dash is improved along with a better suspension.
Diogo, thank you for a nice overview. You mentioned that this bike has a new engine. Other reviewers of the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure say the engine is the same as it was last year (2022). Can you add some details?
@@OFFroadOFFcourse Diogo, my apologies. I had been watching all of the YT vids I could regarding the '23 KTM 890 Adventure. I must have conflated a statement in another vid with your review! I did finally buy one here in Virginia at the end of March and 1 week later I passed 620 miles so I changed the oil (Motorex 10W-50 4T) and filters and screens myself and rode it for another 6 days exploring higher engine speeds before my appointment with my local KTM dealer for the remainder of the official 620 mile service. The dealer said he loaded 3 different software updates. One included engine management. I have noticed two things since then - the engine is amazingly strong past 6200RPM, absolutely ready to race, and the quick-shifter is now considerably smoother than before the tune up, so all is good!
I like this fellow. Particularly his quip about the importance of doing power slides, such a big part of all reviews these days. Pathetic move by KTM to leave off the new screen.
Hey there! It didt have a windshield cause when i tested the bike they were still preparing them for the official launch. I was on the backstage of the launching event, not really in it (and thats why my review was the first ever 😁)
hahahah.... yeah I am sure :P Personally, I don't have a solid opinion yet....sounds fishy as hell, but on the other hand, they could simply charge for it since day 1... I dont know, I think I just got used to the world we live in :/
Those 790/890 bikes are fantastic but the problem is that there're not reliable and have many problems that KTM don't care about ! For example since the launch of the 790 there have been problems tightening coolant hoses that you can allways have on the 890 ! Even if it's really easy to fix, 4 years of the same kind of problem ...
I hope they are washing the fuel tanks now before selling the bikes. 890s around the world were sold with remaining powder from molding and people were changing fuel pumps like undewear.
@@lefterisbampaidis5446 I had the problem on my 2019 790 - the tank was white inside and the pump filter element was completely blocked. I took the pump out (super easy to do) removed the filter screen, cleaned it - and the tank (I did not trust the dealer to do it properly and they are 120ks away) and never a problem since. Should have only needed to be done (or replaced) once. Obviously the tank was not cleaned out properly.
Kinda disappointed in the redesign. It was always worth paying more for the KTM/dealing with frequent maintenance not only because of the performance but they were also so good looking. You know that feeling when you get off the bike and turn around to look at it a few times as you walk away? These don’t do that for me
Much better than the old 790/890, those bikes never looked right, looked like they should have come with 19/17" wheels, and should have kept the big wheels for the 'R' model. Shame there isn't a base model without all the electronic garbage, probably the reason they keep the 690 simple, have that as their RTW bike(albeit, dodgy fuel pumps)? Still no fan of the h'lamp design, hope Rade Garage build a conversion once again, a vast improvement on looks? KTM were still trying to sell 2020 model 790's here,1 or 2 still available, so maybe a 2022 890 might get really cheap now(£7499 for a 790),I'll need to watch the marketplace! Good review, just do not ask me to repeat your name! :)
I never liked the looks. Then I rode one off-road. I am relatively unskilled still but what a weapon. The weight distribution, adjustable traction and throttle response are fantastic. I'd love the new 890 apart from the showroom cost, but seriously looking for 790 adventure r second-hand.
@@davidcook8681 Yes so many people just look at it from their seat at the coffee shop. All the Adventure range are truly beautiful from behind the handlebars, where it counts.
First watched for your opinion (fantic cabalerro rally) but now watch for because it’s good, but now find it might be the bike for me ? My wallet is not thanking you but I am 😂
That bike looks and sounds fantastic and I'm sure that it will set up your tent and cook dinner for you when you arrive at your camping destination. How on earth can they release bikes for a test review without windscreens? Surprisingly and suspiciously incompetent for such a major bike manufacturer! If you're buying one of these bikes within the first year after their release, you're doing KTM's product testing for them.
@@rickvann3489 I do most of my riding on road, but want a bike that is more off road capable than my full size Pan America was. I rented a T7 and found it to be underwhelming on the street. The Tuareg is a bit better but the 890 would definitely have the advantage.

Yep, great review.
Nice bike Diogo!
Feel like I’m the only person that prefers the old looks
Definitely not :) My preferred look is the very first 790 Adventure and Adventure R. They was pretty uniques in kind with very strong visual signature from Kiska. The new versions looks more like "every others" in my opinion
KTM should launch a bare bone 790 Adv Rally, without any electronic gizmos in it and ofcourse with a lower price tag.
Great video Diogo! When are you getting one for yourself? 😃
Ciao! Neanche l'ho presa in considerazione.
Nice review... any chance you are going to test a Desert X to compare it to this ones?
KTM also just announced their newest 790 adventure. Seems confusing. How do you decide which model is right for you?
You test ride them.
Have they? Or is that an error, should be 890?
The 790 makes no sense. It's basically the same bike. It's not even like they have used the old 790 engine, the new 790 has the same heavier flywheel and clutch changes as the 22 890. Unless they are going dirt cheap, the 890 is the better buy.
@@mabsbry1318 No it's definitely back. Same as the 790 Duke. Weird.
I am in love with these 890... so far, the best adv bike I ever got my dirty mittens on :O
@@OFFroadOFFcourse They are awesome performers… Yahoo!
Ma prochaine🤩👍✌
Diogo, thank you for a nice overview. You mentioned that this bike has a new engine. Other reviewers of the 2023 KTM 890 Adventure say the engine is the same as it was last year (2022). Can you add some details?
I doesn't have a new engine. Did I say that?? When? :o
Very nice first impressions video! Time to upgrade the XT? :-)
Muito obrigado! I think I see my next bike under you there. Please don't break my bike😛
That thing with the “rally mode” is what would be referred to in the military as a c*&£’s trick!
hahahah.... yeah I am sure :P
Personally, I don't have a solid opinion yet....sounds fishy as hell, but on the other hand, they could simply charge for it since day 1... I dont know, I think I just got used to the world we live in :/
bom conteúdo, sim senhor 👌
Those 790/890 bikes are fantastic but the problem is that there're not reliable and have many problems that KTM don't care about ! For example since the launch of the 790 there have been problems tightening coolant hoses that you can allways have on the 890 ! Even if it's really easy to fix, 4 years of the same kind of problem ...
I hope they are washing the fuel tanks now before selling the bikes. 890s around the world were sold with remaining powder from molding and people were changing fuel pumps like undewear.
There was NO need to change the pump, only clean it. And that issue was mainly with the first run of the 790.
@@mosa4688 a guy I know changed 4 pumps on a brand new motorcycle
@@lefterisbampaidis5446 I had the problem on my 2019 790 - the tank was white inside and the pump filter element was completely blocked. I took the pump out (super easy to do) removed the filter screen, cleaned it - and the tank (I did not trust the dealer to do it properly and they are 120ks away) and never a problem since. Should have only needed to be done (or replaced) once. Obviously the tank was not cleaned out properly.
As you spend so much time with the KTM's guys, may you be a kind of insider - do the work on a 490 platform at the moment ? 🤫
I am surprised that there is the new 890 . hope that it s not gonna have the rear shock problem like norden 901.
Kinda disappointed in the redesign. It was always worth paying more for the KTM/dealing with frequent maintenance
not only because of the performance but they were also so good looking.
990 DNA in the S
Lower tank should be optional.
Come on man, what do you mean? That lower tank is what makes this bike different 😁
It looks better. Not great, but it's tolerable now. If KTM allows me to have a test ride, I may consider one.
I'm sorry but now the football match between Poland and Argentina is more important :)
Sorry but the new dash looks so reflective similar to a mirror...
Now KTM WON the design of it looks MORE BIKE than previous "insect " design look
I would not buy one until KTM addresses the cam failures that are detailed on the enthusiast sites.
Ktm finally made an Aprilia Taureg.
With 25 more horsepower, this one has my attention.
@David Malphurs and the extra horse power does what off road?
No it's probably Chinese made.
@@rickvann3489 I do most of my riding on road, but want a bike that is more off road capable than my full size Pan America was. I rented a T7 and found it to be underwhelming on the street. The Tuareg is a bit better but the 890 would definitely have the advantage.
@David Malphurs from what I have seen the Pan America is more off road capable then all the big bikes, of course the professional riders are riding and jumping and doing insane off road riding on them.
How you like THE PAM
ARiemann1 had the first review on youtube, sorry. He reviewed it after being the stunt rider for the bikes release. Well the R version anyway. But im a subsciber of yours and love your reviews 🤙
That's not the same bike though.
@@simulacrae like i said, the R version. And its practically the Same bike. Just few upgrades...
Ah but see, this one is not the "R", dear sir :p thank you for watching my reviews...although i have to admit, this one is not my best work...it was kinda rushed :( (the bike was announce only 24h ago :p)0
@@OFFroadOFFcourse Same bike with a few done grades, but your welcome and you did a great job with the review 👍
Different enough though. You can’t really test the R and then say that you also tested the standard.
