I used to go to the betting office with my Uncle has a child so he could bet on the horse races, I would mostly pick the numbers. We never won any major jackpots, but we had a blast. I miss those days in London. Afterwars it was off to the local Pub( kids used to be allowed in Pubs). I would have my juice and crisps, Uncle Brown would have his pint of Skol lager. Uncle Brown passed away from cancer, and almost every day i cry because i miss him.
Barney is a clever Irishman and knows a lot about racing and the workings of racing. What he predicted has come true. The big bookmakers have bled the game dry, and so have Betfair. Barney should be made a member of the jockey club and given freedom of speech to speak on their behalf.
John McCricick was absolutely correct to say this race to be Looked into.Curleys horse drifted badly on the exchanges and ran as though something was amiss.Folkestone Stewards at the very Least should have referred the running and the betting patterns to the BHA to investigate.
For many many years on Breeders Cup day my favorite segment is watching mutton cops give his take and "Expertise" on the European contingent. He is just splendid and I'm sure worth sitting with at the 'pub' for a pint or four. Love ya Johhny Mac! Anonymous Housatonic, Massachusetts
Well done Barney, a true legend of the game & without doubt, the greatest gambler of all time in horse racing. I've followed racing for four nearly four decades & whenever Curley had one being backed, you could normally count the money, he was as deadly. I thought he was out of order with Luke, he got a bit personal, but I'm sure they sorted it out. I have just bought his book " The Sure Thing: The Greatest Coup in Racing History & it's a must for those who love horse racing & the plotting of a great gamble.
Barney is a legend the punts hes pulled off are amazing the bookies got took for millions to do what barney does is genius has the bookies pants down hes about due another sting so keep your eyes peeled ppl hes our pal.
Barney Curley a LEGEND.wish I had a heart like him.god bless you for what you do.your charity work amazing one in a million.took the bookies money and gave it away (a real ROBIN HOOD)
The fact is the bookmakers that infest the high-streets now in ever increasing numbers and tempt punters into playing silly virtual racing and casino games whilst paying as little back to horse racing as possible by levy avoidance are the biggest cheats around as they made there millions off the backs of horses, trainers and jockeys for many decades. My advice is don't play the games and learn to take there prices at racing as if they want to play a game fairly they have to accept that sometimes they will lose and on that note well done Barney you are a genius and a fair man.
Barney talking about saving McCrirricks bacon one time is a pure example of a trainer letting a bookie know when a horse will or won't win. It's as simple as that. Corruption/race fixing whatever you wanna call it. I'd listen to a Barney tip before a McCrirrick tip anyway, but thats just me.
Barney's a gambler, he held a license , but he couldn't train ivy to grow up a wall, Declan Murphy was was training in his name. Also he's a bit of a beaut to dig out Luke Harvey, he could ride, scruffy in a finish, but you never rode for Tim Forster if you were a nugget. McCririck is fair game though.
Well said Barney everything you said is 100%correct Harvey was useless as a jockey and mc Cririck knows nothing that's why he's out a job in racing well said Barney and great to see you did it again I was on
Well said, Juv. I Agree with all four of your observations . . . 1. McCrirrick was a one trick pony (pardon the pun), supposedly the Punters' Pal, but in reality, an Ex-Harrovian pillock/bully-boy who should have been educated with a sharp left-hook a decade ago. 2. Luke Harvey . . . don't get me started! I remember him scrubbing around the likes of Bangor and Hereford . . . always on a rank-outsider. He wasn't even a second but a third-rate useless jockey. Somehow, incredibly, he's re-invented himself as Lambourn's No. 1 name-dropper and now refers to co-presenters + modern iconic jockeys as "Fitzy" and "Champ" . . . as if they're his best mates. He even has the temerity to join in their on-air recollections of the past and speak as if all three had shared the limelight! 3. Very little to add about Mr. Curley. He's been far more than a legendary punter and I would claim that he is also a top--trainer of a racehorse. (Check out his biography "Giving a Little Back" and "The Sure Thing" by Nick Townsend). And last but not least, No. 4. - The eloquent literary style of Janet Chisholm, without whom this conversation just wouldn't be the same.
He's got money yet wants more money by running his horses knowing quite well they won't win as he tells them to run them down the field, whether they are 50/1 or 5/2, especially if it has supposedly got a chance, this is robbing the punter. All punters want is to bet on a race that is fair with no trainers/jockeys pulling horses, they don't care if they back a loser as long as the race was straight.
garyoptica Who mentioned the word "certainty"???? I can train a 90 rated horse to lose every single race in runs in, so its mark finally falls to 46 and have 44lbs in hand of its rivals and win. Its not very special, unless you think fooling punters into thinking its seen better days is special. I call it cheating. There's a rule in British racing that states that all horses should be ridden to finish in the best possible position - these horses obviously weren't. If you want to reply to me directly, try to aim it at something I wrote.
garyoptica You seem to have a fascination with bookmakers prices, I think you've replied to the wrong person. As regards losing any race, there you go again reading something I've typed, incorrectly. Give me a couple of weeks and I'm sure I'll bring up bookmakers and their prices.
this is what im talking about, what have you won? what have you done for racing? he has done loads and set up charities and given back what he took. like i said the bookies will continue to rob unknowledgable punters who know nothing about racing, they smell it a mile off. the owners of racecourses, trainers, and bookies all operate as one. curley gambles his own hard earned. he doesnt tell the bookies. who is going to back his horse when his horse is a huge price? he is not robbing punters.
listen ok, firstly his horses are his own and he trains them himself. when he runs his horses the bookies want to get information off him either directly or through indirect sources. he doesn't give them information so in effect they are the ones taking the punt on his horse they put up 50/1 or 5/2 they are only guessing. when he won his big accumulator in 2010 the bookies couldn't stop it. you see horses being pulled out of races that's the reason why.
For once in his life he had to act humble considering not only has he been sacked from several jobs and was a failed bookie himself but Barney Curley helped bail him out when he was in debt to bookies too.
@nuipret Horses can show very little at home on the gallops or whilst schooling, and then can all of a sudden turn it on at a race track for some unkown reasons, Sea The Stars just did his usual work at home and never looked like the superstar he was until he was on a racetrack. Horses are difficult animals to work out if they dont fancy running they wont, or will make sure they lose
Curley 0:47-0:49 I saved your bacon one time, you were gone. JMC: Yes yes.... That's throwing a race or stopping a horse for the benefit of someone else in any mans language. Otherwise explain your reason for not agreeing.
Not true dub. JMC was a failed bookmaker who owed a lot of money and Barney helped him out with cash. If JMC had defaulted he would have been warned off for a long time and wouldn't have been able to become the misogynistic clown we all knew and "loved".
@MrConnolly25 Paul Nicholls only trains for the rich and has no interest in the punters who read his column, He's another actor who puts on a show to keep the media on his side. He tells you what he fancies alright but he's never put his neck on the line and said one of his horse will win and he has had enough winners by 30 lengths or more so you think he could tell you a bit more than "he'll run well". Covers himself all the time by saying "should give a account of himself" & "should run well".
The Ramsdens are cheats, either that or incompetent. I remember Top Cees running in a race over 1M 6F when fav and lost, their excuse after the race was it didn't stay, yet a year or two later Top Cees comes out and wins the chester cup over 2M 2F. Laughable excuses.
Must have been talking about Geoff Banks about laying two bananas to one banana....poor Barney caught out after stopping another one...take out merchant...Luke laughing his bollocks off
i can always mind amanda perret giving an interview on c4 b4 indian lodge won a race, she was asked wat she told mick kinaine as instructions n she said WIN,one word, tip in itself dont u fink
@nuipret do you have an English passport? If you say: "if i class myself as british that means i am either english or scottish or from northern ireland, but i'm from ENGLAND, so i'm english." So doesn't that just mean you are British and specifically the one country you are from is England, because you can't be from all of them. Plenty of trainers have said bar a mistake their horse will win, Try following irish trainer Ger Lyons on twitter, gives alot more details on his runners everyday and will usually inform followers when he thinks his horse is going to win, something Paul Nicholls never does.
@nuipret yes big fat mac went skint as a bookmaker in the late 70's early 80's and curley paid some if not all his debts off and saved him to getting warned off so the story goes
ok man thats cool, i didnt mean to insult you either its just frustrating, but people need to know the real story of how racing works, and bookies operations. i can also guarantee that the likes of the racing post and attheraces have their cut by scamming punters. your right to quit the punting unless you have a good insight, unfortunately racing is ruined and most people dont know that. and curley even though hes only a drop in the ocean, knows the score.

"Can we do an interview?"
"You can interview my arse!" 😂
RIP Big Mac and Barney - two legends of the great game.
We'll never see anyone like them again. Yes, legends!
barney is a legend. big mac a arsehole
I used to go to the betting office with my Uncle has a child so he could bet on the horse races, I would mostly pick the numbers. We never won any major jackpots, but we had a blast. Great story, thank you xx
barney curley a very shrewd and funny guy. a likeable rogue.
The game of the sporting kings🐎
The late Barney Curly & late John McCririck.
The two great genius.
I saved your bacon one time
John: yep 😐
Rip John a racing legend love to u
He was the best. Horse racing isn't the same without him. The only real character now is Matt Chapman, he's very good but he can't match Big Mac.
Barney is a clever Irishman and knows a lot about racing and the workings of racing. What he predicted has come true. The big bookmakers have bled the game dry, and so have Betfair. Barney should be made a member of the jockey club and given freedom of speech to speak on their behalf.
What would you suggest? A three-legged race? Pole-Vault? Rowing?
John McCricick was absolutely correct to say this race to be Looked into.Curleys horse drifted badly on the exchanges and ran as though something was amiss.Folkestone Stewards at the very Least should have referred the running and the betting patterns to the BHA to investigate.
Don’t tell that to the idiots who loved the crook.
Interesting that ATR edited the bit about bookies not taking a bet out of the version that was repeatedly broadcast...
As the son of a track layer, I can assure you all that bent racing is alive and well.....
For many many years on Breeders Cup day my favorite segment is watching mutton cops give his take and "Expertise" on the European contingent. He is just splendid and I'm sure worth sitting with at the 'pub' for a pint or four. Love ya Johhny Mac!

To keep your name tott you’re always uping up things 🤦♂️
These days are gone. Fantastic television.

He was a crooked c*nt who conned thick punters with his bullshite and cheating.
This is one of the greatest moments in British sporting history.
Barney Curley is a fooking legend - NUFF SAID!!!
RIP big Mac 😭
Well done Barney!
100% Correct.

Barney put john in his place straight taking about them .
How this man was axed from the racing I’ll never understand
Barney a true legend !
I really think someone should make a sitcom set around the horse-racing course starring these two.
McCririck got owned
first time i have seen Big John Silenced
Barney Curley absolutely brilliant
These people on racing programs all work for the bookmaking firms!
The fact is the bookmakers that infest the high-streets now in ever increasing numbers and tempt punters into playing silly virtual racing and casino games

+garyoptica this is sadly the way *all* corporations work which is why the general economy is in a mess. It is not a racing-specific problem.

You are so wrong in this instance dub. Barney paid off McCrirrick's debts when McCrirrick tried to be a bookmaker and failed miserably.
''He was an under-achiever and knows nothing''. Classic. Only on British TV
"He was an underachiever and knows nothing" brutal lol
Anyone got the full pics this clip is from

Bring back the old days
Some really classy comments on this video.
I saved your bacon...

its nice of him to save him some bacon
Barney Curley my racing hero! How did he save Mac's bacon I wonder?
Long time for a reply Simon.... Big mac owed ladbrokes 50k and Barney paid off his debt for him....
8/13 out to 11/4 and pulled up.
Say no more.
No more. There, I said it.
Well done barney today, your the betting mans legend!
Betting mans legend - was he helping the punter when the horse wasn't trying? But of course you only bet his horses when they win. Yeah right.

Barney Curley taught Guy Fawkes everything he knew about plotting
😂😂😂

Lol, for once I find someone crazier than john mccririck
Barney is the greatest story in racing.....
Luke harvey was a good jockey and he dos a great job on itv raceinng he a top guy
He rode Welsh national winner Còol Ground and Katabatic and Country Member for Andy Turnell .So he done well on these horses
Hahaha John's absolutely terrified.
For once in his life he had to act humble considering not only has he been sacked from several jobs and was a failed bookie himself but Barney Curley helped bail him out when he was in debt to bookies too.
Mccririck in debt to bookies ??
Thought he used to get all of the inside info ??
Barney was not the punters pal. He ran horses for his own benefit and was impossible to catch a winner from.
@nuipret Horses can show very little at home on the gallops or whilst schooling, and then can all of a sudden turn it on at a race track for some unkown reasons, Sea The Stars just did his usual work at home and never looked like the superstar he was until he was on a racetrack. Rip barney a shrewed trainer will be missed
Hey John. How is ur foot tasting after slighting Zenyatta's greatness?
Nicholls told the world he fancied Kauto and Master Minded strongly last week. A 25/1 double at morning odds. What more do people want !!??
Curley 0:47-0:49 I saved your bacon one time, you were gone. JMC: Yes yes....

Gwan Barney boy lol
I miss Folkestone races.
Well done barney r.i.p 🙏

Having sly digs at luke lmfao 😂
This is what racing should have been, not the fashion show of today

@BigPhil1982 do you know the story behind that because hwen he said it i was dying to know what it meant?
john looks petrified lmao XD
No argument Barney said he I saved your bacon several times MaC agreed. Nuffield said
how did curley save McCririck?
He was in thousands of debt as a failed bookie, Curley brought him out of it.
@hullabellew Paul Nicholls for a long time has been a punters friend as he does'nt need to back them himself he has a collumn in the saturday racing post were he actually tells you which horse of his he fancies most and which of his horses maybe overpriced 1 thing for sure is that all his horses always have a chance as most times they are fit and ready if not he tells you it may need the run
Bet him & John are still arguing about it now up there!
RIP Barney
Racing is as corrupt as ever and nobody says anything cos of there been so much money involved.
I have no problem in curley coups!
But remember the average man is backing that fav and should be running to form!
Making horses lose is wrong!
Can The Bookmakers PLEASE Pay Barney Curley and his families WINNING BETS please. If the bookies don't pay then in the world of betting they will become the lowest form of low life a welsher.
The noun WELCHER has 1 sense:
1. someone who swindles you by not repaying a debt or wager
get your bacon back John
@MrConnolly25 The media is his perception to the public, if he comes accross as a prick who would want him training their horses? @nuipret yes big fat mac went skint as a bookmaker in the late 70's early 80's and curley paid some if not all his debts off and saved him to getting warned off so the story goes
top red is curley
'dandy matt wackman'
Im suprize that McCririck seems to act normal here. If it was a woman then it would of been different
ok man thats cool, i didnt mean to insult you either its just frustrating, but people need to know the real story of how racing works, and bookies operations. i can also guarantee that the likes of the racing post and attheraces have their cut by scamming punters. your right to quit the punting unless you have a good insight, unfortunately racing is ruined and most people dont know that. and curley even though hes only a drop in the ocean, knows the score.
I wonder did he lay the favorite , lol
Watching this video again I come to 1 conclusion.....I hope Barney is on Jeremy Kyle some day, cos he'll make shit of him! :D
Cheating in horse racing, who knew?
@hullabellew do ya think so
Look at Harvey he knows he's a worm an under achiever
Barney was a monk
Curley should have been banned by the BHA x100 over under the non-triers rule. He epitomises why Racing has such a poor reputation amongst the general public.
what are they arguing about lol? john is the best
gangster
No wonder Luke lost all his hair
@Fucktusa You cannot ever say a horse will win for sure the nature of jump racing dictates that.Nicholls gives a truer verdict of how his horses will run than any other trainer, the Pipe/Henderson/Hobbs/O'Neil stables keep quiet and are punters worst enemies as the amount of gambles that fail on their horses show.If you think there is a trainer who says more than Nicholls tell us and yes he trains for the rich and gets top horses all of which means he has no need please us or the media
