I think the idea is that death is so big, thats its basiquelly always there and you wouldn`t register its presence as a threat until the very moment it comes for you. Basiquelly imagine if the sun revealed itself as a swarm of giant monster and was coming to kill you.
"youth" is actually a really cool idea for a character background. like, you're freshly 18 (or the corresponding age for your race) and this is your first time actually seeing the world and being in charge of yourself

I mean, its also not even immune to all damages. Just damage from non-magical attacks that arent adamantine and silvered. Get yourself a +3 silvered adamantine greatsword and you can hit it for resisted damage

When they die, they have a bit of "what am I, who am I and how did I fuck up this time" moments and can turn out being a version of themselves if they had some minor or major changes in their life like gender, background in job, heritage, education opportunities ..
