    You need a bit of clear packing tape on either side of the tight pot. Fold over the top so it sticks out like a little handle and then you can use the tape tabs to draw the inner pot out quite easily.

    Looks nice. Would like to install one in my house, but... Don't think it's worth the $700. At $400-500 I might have been a buyer.

    This was very interesting. The Forest is WAY beyond my budget, but it did give me some ideas. I think that you are so right about the cons of the Forest. If I had one, I would like more flexibility in the heights and pot sizes. I think it does have some uses as is though too. Like all new things, it takes a while to find the best use. It is VERY, VERY expensive though. Your plants are so beautiful! I am just getting started again after many years without a lot of plants. There is so much information available now with the internet. I am learning all over again. Love your videos!

    It looks lovely, truly does. They (Mother) are mighty ‘proud’ of their products in general. So overpriced especially in today’s economy. This could be diy’d fairly inexpensively.

    Hi Jan, Thanks for your review. I have a couple of suggestions for Mother in case you care to pass them along to them. They might be interested in your viewers' opinion:
    1. For the FOREST. It looks great. But they might want to look into improving the modules to accommodate both the current size pots and larger pots. The reason is $699 EU or USD is too steep a price for such tiny plants. Usually a plant that size retails between $12 and $40 USD, unless it's a specialty plant. I think the cost/benefit ratio of most people might be too high for such tiny plants.
    2. For the plant spectrum: I love that light. But I'm looking for something that is higher. I know I could stack them, but to be honest, the size of my planters is almost the same height as the whole lamp that would be used as a base. Again, regarding design: They might want to consider offering an extension base that has an adjustable height. If they do, I'll buy 4 mother lights immediately! Until then, I'm leaning more toward the Soltech Aspect.

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agree with both :) will pass it on :) cheers

    Thank you for taking the time to review The Forest. The esthetic is most captivating, until you look at the price point 😿. As well, the pot size/ verticle adjustment is reminiscent of other plant stands I have that frustrate me when it's time to repot. I suppose if cost was no issue, the Forest does make a nice propagation station, but alas, I will have to make do with my window sills full of recycled jars. 😻

    Unless they're replacing lighting in a home, I've always found grow lights to be a gimmick waste of money. Also, why are these black? Black absorbs light whilst white deflects it. I'd think they'd want something brighter for their plants and the dark area it's installed in. Except for the color, the design looks good and functional. Thank you so much for reviewing these products. These videos are very useful and help me make decisions on how to best spend my money.

    that metal pole is NOT worth 1200 bux. (as advertised on the manufacturers site)that pricing is outrageous. was going to look into mothers for lights based on some other utube plant video makers. not anymore. did i mention it's 1200 bux ?! are you kidding me? there MIGHT be 2-300 bux worth of material in the entire assembly. some companies waaaaay overvalue their products, and their self worth, too...... seems to be a thing in the world of plant/lighting supplies...it does look nice though. mebbe 4-500 bux nice.

    With my very tight pots I put a hole in the pot at opposite sides and make a loop with a clear cable tie so I can easily take it out. I have looked at The Forest so often. Thanks for your review. I am a little surprised they are set up for Leca as that design would be very hard to flash the minerals that build up on the Leca, and your also unable to see if there is any nutrients left in the pot. All of this could be easily fixed by Mother making the nib sit under the bottom of a flat base which would then allow better use for soil users.Semi hydro users could put there own clear pots within the black pot or pot directly if they want to. Hope that made sense

    • @sarasrensen2580
      @sarasrensen2580 ปีที่แล้ว

      i've experimented a bit with semihydro and i think it sounds ridiculously difficult to use leca with the forest... they're implying you'd put leca straight into the pots, and then there would be no way for you to see roots or check the water level. sounds like a guessing game:P

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To be fair they never said they designed them to be used with leca directly, I just implied that. Based on the design you’d probably want another pot insert & use the actual pot that came with it as just the cache pot. I gave them the feedback that the forest should come with the pot inserts but forgot to mention it when I recorded the video :)

    Oh yeah, N'joy (and pearls and jade) have always been tricky for me to prop. If they root at all it takes FOREVER. I imagine you're right about it maybe having to do with the amount of light and where the light was actually hitting the props.. but honestly I struggle with those regardless 🤷🏻‍♀️ and with Micans I try to use cuttings that have those long aerial roots on them already because I've had issues rooting those at times as well. Anyway, such a fun video! Thanks for putting it together for us! Super helpful 👍💚

    As a group, Nepenthes are divided into "Highland" and "Lowland" species, differentiated by growing above or below 3300 feet (1000 m). Carnivorous Plant growers with cooler growing conditions, especially in the winter, may have greater success with Highland varieties. Carnivorous Plant growers who can keep warmer winter conditions might prefer the Lowland types. Highland species tend to grow fewer traps, but they are more long lasting and sturdier than typical Lowland species. There are Intermediates and they are usually good growers for either winter type. They typically grow in the open, sunny areas, climbing up shrubs and trees, or in open grasslands. The soils are generally acidic and low in nutrients, sandy, volcanic and peaty.

    I discovered Mother-Forest from this video and ordered one immediately from your discount link. I definitely agree with your points. I am an experienced builder and still struggled with the installation. It took my gf and I 4 hours to put this together because the instructions were unintuitive and clumsy. She had to calm my nerves at several instances. I showed her this video and she laughed about your frustration (not particularly at your frustration but more because we realize we were not alone). But once we got it up and running we love it! I then ordered an additional expansion bundle so I can install LED panels above the top pods giving it lights.
    One point I wish to add is Mother is super fast with shipping and the stuff got here within days from Belgium to Hong Kong. You can tell these people really cares about their service and products, and I am sure they will streamline their products as time goes on.

      Yep it’s pricey!!! You definitely pay for the design aspect not just the actual functionality. I’ve seen more affordable options available out there :)

    You can put Leca inside the pot with the "thingy" that pokes out, that way the nursery pot isn't unstable inside. It's very light and it won't let root be in contact directly with water that goes threw

    I love love love how it look, but since there is a light at the top, the very top one should be centre so it spreads like more then reconfigure kinda like you have it now but only that one minor change at the top, I would think just to maximize the like from the top centre pot (when you reconfigure it)

    It would be nice if they provided longer cords and bigger pots that could be switched out (with a larger base/light) and the option to add more pots so the entire space is used.

      Agree :) i know you can buy more pots separately but I’d love some bigger pot options !!

    Hi 💫 I’m a recent new plant Mom and I’ve noticed you don’t put substrate on the bottom before placing in the plants ~ have I been wrong doing so all this time? I always add substrate then the plant then backfill but I like your way soooo much better. Although I don’t have Aroids, I have Hoyas, but does that matter? I love the Jungle so much and now I want one lol. Hope you’re having a wonderful day! 🙏🏻💫

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No you’re doing it right :) I’m just used to potting up moss poles where I add the pole & the plant first, then the substrate for stability so I just developed the habbit to do it that way :)

      Personally really enjoy the reviews on products you don’t just get to see and hear about them like some creators, you see the results they bring if any. Just remember the time and effort that goes into doing these videos, it’s not sit on your arse and talk about it he actually puts work in to show results over time. And if he makes a few dollars doing it good for him, we all need an extra nowadays.

      So you'd rather him make content for free? He has a right to make money. He has bills just like you do. This type of mindset is weird.

    Really interesting concept, Mother! Having a small dark home ive been looking around for constructions like this!! I wouldnt even mind the potsizes either cuz id just put smaller plants in there instead of on a shelf!
    But not being able to EITHER dim lights individually OR adjust the heights shocked me. It really has me doubting the vision behind the company if they are expecting to let customers pay the JACKPOT and be ok with them burning their precious plant babies for no reason :( (And no, lights off is no option, you buy lamps for a reason..)
