    People forget just how powerful a steam engine is as they produce full power from the moment that the pistons start moving

    The two locos were prepared at Cranmore. Then, coupled together and with carriage(s), we were towed tender first to the quarry by diesel. Having left NR metals the diesel and carriage uncoupled and departed into the quarry sidings. We were going in from the west which is the normal way out from the quarry yard used by the loaded stone trains. I was driver on the lead loco going into the quarry and soon after we got underway I heard a bit of a bang and we had split the point with one wheel set (normally this would be a trailing point). The lads from Yeomans quickly found packing wood and some suitable steel pieces. Having got them in placed the other 9F, which was still coupled, eased us forward and we were quickly re-railed. Am I the only driver of a 9F in preservation to be re-railed by another 9F. Only thing I can not remember is whether I was on 92203 or 92212. Does anyone know in what order we travelled from Cranmore to Yeomans?

      Thanks for this great video. Always good to see these beasties still about and with people keeping them alive. These 2 are very grand together. Keep up the good work

    Certainly spectacular. I don't think 9Fs were ever double headed in BR service. They were banked, e.g. on the Tyne Dock to Consett iron ore trains.

    Different tenders. What's the story?

    • @110burgundy
      @110burgundy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The 9Fs were originally built with five tender types BR1B; BR1C. BR1F; BR1G & BR1K with differing coal and water capacities. That fitted to 92203 was the one it had when it left BR and I assume that fitted to 92212 likewise.
