Wonder what the challenge is? Beat all bosses with the trio while never leveling them? Stomp Elma 10,000 times with Lucil? Mug Bahamut with Yuna until you have 10 ribbons?

Blood sword has a hidden effect where it deals 1/16th of the enemy max hp as bonus damage. Emperor has a ton of HP, so blood sword murders him
Yeah, that's why you should cheese agility for defence in FF2 rather than HP because there are enemies that have the same effect and if they can't hit you they can't do it. Shield 16 + no armour is basically immortality.
@@AshenVictor And how can you train agility? Equiping shields, low weight equipment...? That's something I've never understood about this game.
@@PlantonicoRegresa If you wanna power level your Agi, equip two shields on each character, then get into easy fights and ""attack"", it gives XP to both shield skill and Agility.
@@PlantonicoRegresa Characters have a chance to gain agility depending on their evasion stat at the end of each battle. Evasion/Agility is reduced by armour weight so you just don't equip any but a Ribbon.

for the Bloodsword the calculation takes into account the standard damage + drain damage of 1/16 of maximum HP drain multiplied by the number of hits. That's why it does this insane damage

How a ring acts as a map - The gem laid in the ring has a tiny map etched into it. When sunlight shines through the gem, it acts like a projector, projecting a larger image of the map wherever you aim the light shining through the ring~
Odessa's earring, in Suikoden, works the same way. It's a subtle way of hiding a secret location or a map of a specific area :)
As so many people explain bloodsword already. Drain effects is base on max HP to determine damage. This come up against player when you see undead with drain effect like the Death Knights in Pandemonium. Which why regardless if you have 9999 hp or 4000 those Death knight can still put pressure on you. It just nice Player can abuse this aspect of the game with the Blood sword drain effect.
Each hit from the Blood Sword does 1/16th of the mobs HP. So multi hits per attack adds up to lots of damage

I was going to comment asking about Soul Of Rebirth to then realise its not actually included in the Pixel Remaster version of FF2

As for the Blood sword, it has a unique element that the emperor and several other bosses are weak to, thus Blood swords deal Several thousand damage where as the other swords and weapons deal a few hundred due to the emperor having several resistances to weapons and elemental damage.
I don't have the same aversion to ff2 that many others do because i plaued the gba version when i was little and loved it as a young child. So i have a lot of nostalgia for the game.
9:45 Is said that a meteorite fell in the planet ages ago, a man found it and built a keep(the Kashuan Keep) around to praise it, later that place became the Kingdom of Kashuan.
That thumbnail art of Firion just makes me sad because Squenix recently axed the mobile game it came from, Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia. I do so miss nuking everything with Astos in that game...

saddly there is a huge lack of artwork for FF2 online so it becomes really freaking hard to find anything other than the basic box art

Having shields eqipped in both hands is treated as one hand unarmed when attacking in Pixel Remaster.

Apparantly the blood sword deals 1/16th of the enemies max hp per hit, plus a bonus based on your strength. However, for some reason it goes absolutely bonkers against the endboss...not that I'd complain about that.
cause the endboss has like 10k hp 10,000/16=625. then strength modifier gets added then the hit amount multiplies that damage. resulting in that stupid shit. it's fcking GREAT
Also Hell Emperor counts as a human (alive) enemy, rather than undead. So that's why it works at all.
Two things:
1. We don't know what Leon's voice sounds like through the helmet. For all we know the Dark Knight literally sounds like Darth Vader.
2. That is NOT a snowmobile. When have you ever seen a snowmobile with a sail on it? It's basically a wind-powered sled. Look up 'iceboat' on wikipedia.

interestingly if you were to stat max hp somewhere between 6000-9000,
the Hell and Heaven Emperor does in fact, have a very high chance of one shotting, or will outright 1-2 shot a maxed hp char assuming their evasion isn't raised or not close to max.
the Emperor's draining physical attack is aptly named "Blood Rod" Dissidia Opera Omnia.
which makes it no wonder Firion's signature Blood Sword is the Emperor's weakness(mostly due to his massive hp pool) and the thematic counterpart to the Emperor's "Blood Rod" physical attack.
I think the realest challenge of FF2 would deff be trying to beat the whole game+Soul of Rebirth with specifically, the "Destroy" spell. that's an FF2 PSP exclusive spell normally found by defeating the Superboss, Deumion.
the problem would deff be needing some sort of emulator to play that version of FF2,
and a way to hack in Destroy into the spell list for both Firion and Minwu.
Minwu would need some grinding via the Captain enemy in Fynn at the beginning of the game(they're really easy to gain stats and weapon/magic ranks on) so he can beat the first encounter in Soul of Rebirth with Scott
a full Destroy spell playthrough of FF2 would be interesting, but it deff needs unlimited Elixirs, since otherwise its not realistically possible, the walls being magic using bosses.
but at least FF2 boss hp is often low enough they'd just eventually die to Destroy-
I can also confirm its possible to kill the Hell Emperor with Destroy within at least 5 turns(if he doesn't use Starfall/Flare),
Since if Destroy doesn't kill on the 1st cast, it will become a permanent secret gravity spell til the end of battle.
it may be possible to kill the Heaven Emperor with it too, but he has more magic attacks than the Hell one.
Can't wait for FF3 Auto Battle, I'd love to see how you handle the Hein fight.
The blood sword does a percentage damage from the ennemies, about 1/16 of their Max hp as a bonus damage.
That is why it makes it so powerful, and usable against almost any ennemies

Based on the introduction to the story as well as your initial equipping of people the next game is going to be a FFXII challenge. Between overthrowing the empire and then the dual swords could reference Gabranth.

I recently played through all the retro FF games for the first time (I grew up with FF6 and I adore it but I never played the earlier entries in the series).
I kept hearing shit being dumped on this game so I came in expecting a bad experience.
Turns out this has become one of my favorite games in the franchise.
I have no idea why people dislike it. It's the only FF game where grinding isn't mindless, you have to develop training strategies in order to grow your characters. You don't end up overleveled by just playing the game without running like the later chapters and you aren't limited to a single sub ability like the job-based chapters. Wanna turn Gus into a barbarian? Just give him berserk, blink and other nature based spells. Should the barbarian use bare hands instead of axes? Go for it. Fun.
Also the leveling makes sense: you can just make your characters spar among themselves in order to get better, you don't need to commit genocide like other RPGs.
Of course I have no clue why you have to spar in front of a clueless goblin but yeah, still more fun than running around looking for encounters and then spamming attack.
I played this on PSOne, not on the remaster, which means I had to deal with the old school progression rates and still had a ton of fun.
Also underrated mini-boss battle theme, another thing a lot of people hate and I think is awesome.
People hate on it because you don't have static leveling. Personally I agree with you although it isn't my favourite, it's #3.
people hate it because its been out for 30 years and the way to easily abuse it is just to hit yourself, its the same argument with FF8, it gets so much hate because the junction system can be so abused. the problem here is all the FF games can be abused because every little trick is known

The Bloodsword does 1/16 of the target's max HP per hit. If you do 2 hits, its 1/8 of their max HP. If you do 8 hits, you do half of their max HP. This is balanced by the sword's low accuracy stat which would reduce the hit count. Since it's damage is based on the target's HP, major bosses with chunky max HP will get hit by big damage when hit with the blood sword.
It will be amazing if you do a can you beat challenge on Final Fantasy Tactics

My only gripe with the game tbh is the fact that so many late game enemies deal gravity type damage based on your total hp. So heavy armor isn't extremely helpful late game, and having high hp is irritatingly counter productive for you.

Early bosses also bother me because your equipment doesn't match up to them until far later and you deal no damage outside of magic. Its obnoxious, especially the red soul.

For exemple against emperor in the cyclone, i drained 2600 of his 3000 HP (mostly because it's only what he had left)

Unlike FF1 NOT really FF2 doesn't USE a traditional EXP system so while the Blood Sword is GOOD for the FINAL boss of the game it pretty much SUCKS against EVERYTHING else and even then you can't HAVE 4x blood sword users for FF2's LAST boss anyways.
i disagree, any enemy with a lot of health die fast against the BS
not really needed anyway since you already destroy everything (final boss included) in very few attacks
But at the same time you get the weapon so late in game its still possible TO not survive all the boss fights in the game under auto battle BEFORE you can even get the 1st Blood sword especially for monsters that are practically IMMUNE to physical hits ie take no damage from them and the land turtle (adamantoise) boss has such high physical defense that MOST physical hits under auto battle won't be able to damage it EVER.
