  • The Old Town Solo Sportsman is the perfect combination of Canoe and Kayak. At 54 lbs this hybrid is easy to take out for a day of hunting or fishing. It offers the versatility of a canoe for gear with speed and handling of a kayak.

    This is my favorite solo boat. Everything about it is as close to perfect as realistically possible. Cargo space is great as compared to any kayak.

    This is the boat that I wanted last year but I couldn't find it anywhere. I settled on the Sportsman 106 instead. I really like the Sportsman but I may eventually get this boat too. It looks perfect for river camping!

      I just got the last one in Ontario I believe, I checked high and low all over and as it turned out a guy 2 minutes away had one left. I’m soooo lucky and I absolutely love this rig. Love it more than my sit on top, it’s quick and tracks well. Hope you find one soon

    I used to fish out of a 33lb Old Town Pack Angler canoe. I had two Scotty rod holders, a Scotty anchor pully, and a YakAttack fishing flag/light. Nearly this same boat, only 21lbs Lighter at 33lbs and still 3" longer. Same width and depth. I just watched one sell on craigslist 2days ago for $700. I traded mine for an Old Town Penobscot 16RX. No regrets.

      @@jorcktheoutcast8007 Esquif Adirondack is almost identical to the Old Town Pack with a little extra depth to the hull. 42lbs and 12ft. I want one to replace the OT Pack I traded away.

    Its a great boat, if they just designed the seat a bit better it would be super solid.

  • @aaronsabin8868
    @aaronsabin8868 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Only problem is the weight limit. I fit just fine, but if I wanted to use this to access tough areas of public land for deer hunting, I'd be screwed if I had to bring a deer out.

    • @hawkeye31k
      @hawkeye31k 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. I ended up going with an OTD 133 canoe.

    • @chandlerbeard9957
      @chandlerbeard9957 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just ordered one with that purpose in mind. The weight limit is definitely lower than I’d have liked. Wish they offered it with the standard 119 depth and weight limit. May wind up having to drag a float behind it to get the deer out. It’s dual purpose for me since I do a lot of recreational floating during the summer months so one or the other would have had to sacrifice a little.

    i find that a kneeling pad in the centre is much better than sitting for paddling through a rapi dor to haul ass across a lake. the seat is probably great for resting. your J-stroke can only be accomplished kneeling.

    i just bought a used Guide Solo 119 . in great condition . $250.00 .
    same dimensions but the seat sits higher . also i believe its a tad lighter than the one here .
    mine has 2 wood cross braces forward of the seat . it does not have the rear cross brace and there are no rod holders anywhere . . . yet .
    im going to change to the seat you have , that will lower me into the craft another 3-3.5 inches and give me a padded seat for my old self . i may even add a rear cross brace and replace one of the wooden front ones with the accessory track . also mine doesn't have the foot braces either . something else i will have to address .

    • @livingsurvival

      Yes, a dedicated fishing kayak is a ton more stable and has more fishing features. This one is great for smaller rivers or overnight trips. I have a video on Old Town’s pedal kayak.

    Its the same hull as disco 119 and only 6lbs heavier. Why is it rated for 354lbs and they say the disco 119 is 500 ? Makes no sense to me

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the same hull. Cut lower on the sides I believe.

    • @ericl2969
      @ericl2969 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both boats are drastically over-rated in weight capacity. Old Town has always done that, but people who know canoeing know better. You don't want to paddle any boat that's sunk as low in the water as these would be when carrying the "rated" load, unless you are on a millpond and not going far.

    Too short! For a canoe or kayak! Draft is too deep for a grown man. Yea, you float, but unless we're white water, it's better to be buoyant! Should be more like 14 to 15ft +.... no reason to have a snappy turning canoe for fishing! Stability ,control, speed, capacity.
