Being a 6'5 bowler myself, I loved watching Cook bowl when I was a kid.

What a fierce competitor! Steve Cook was a dominant lefty on the tour, except for Earl Anthony. He was a fun player to watch!!

Loved watching Steve whenever he made the show. Always seemed like such a cool guy as well. I will never forget driving to work early on a Saturday morning, listening to a national call-in sports talk show. Steve came on to talk about Archery, and did so with great eloquence. An all-time great memory. Just ONCE I would have loved to throw a ball with his power.

The plant-n-pull goofballs today could learn a few things from Mr. Cook. The leverage, roll, and revolutions he imparted on a plastic ball smoothly was something even the elite professionals of the Golden Era were incapable of generating, and few today can with balls loaded with their own computer-designed engine. Steve Cook was a marvel to watch and definitely one to emulate even if you're right-handed. In my opinion, he has the best mechanics of all left-handed bowlers ever on television. Others have surely won more titles, but none have done it as well.

He's one of my all time favorites to watch. Sadly, the game has taken away any advantage a player with his physical skills would have.

I grew up on true lacquer lanes, and I agree. The great bowlers back then rolled (read: stroked) , well maybe not Roth and Petraglia, the ball. Since I was a lefty I of course idolized the doomsday stroking machine, but I never thought I could equal that metronome he called an arm. I liked Aulby, he put thinking into the game. But I wanted to bowl like Steve Cook.
When Steve's ball hit it was 10 in the pit.
Urethane surfaces on the lanes practically ruined bowling skill wise. You'll never see anyone stroke like Earl or Voss, or have pinpoint accuracy like Walter Ray, rolling power like Cook, cerebral like Aulby, clutch like Norm and Weber Sr.
      Sad, really.
