  • In this video, Dr Chien-Wen Liew discusses the method of performing a direct anterior approach total hip replacement in his patients, but in more detail about the actual materials used for the implant. Whilst there are many different types of implants used in every hip replacement, advances in materials, geometry and design have allowed hip replacements to be placed in the hip with the minimal of soft tissue trauma. Improvements in design and material composition means that whilst hip replacements are increasing in their numbers each year in Australia, the relative percentage of revisions continues to drop.

Hi Dr Liew, I had total hip replacement in both hips about a year ago, done three months apart. I had the titanium rod for the femur and porcelain ball. I had a successful recovery and am very pleased with the results. Thanks for this video.
