This model appears to be popular and a little harder to find for that reason. I can't judge the dependability as I have only mowed the yard twice but everything else on the mower is very nice and working fine so far. I added options for the run hour timer, arm backrests, recycler/mulcher, towing bracket, deck lift assist and cover.
I just bought a 226v-g4. I still say for the money you can’t beat that mower. Baby vanguard and 4400 hydro gears. Off course I got the farm bureau discount and tax exemption but even the maverick HD couldn’t touch it. The only thing the he has it on is the suspension and the seat.
I don’t get too excited about the chute and cut quality until the next step up. Scag velocity plus and grasshopper rule around here as far as cut quality. Hustler vx vx4 and bad boy armor tech of course are not too far behind.
I think there are over 30 brands there are good things about all of them. Even brands like cu cadet and husqvarna I’ve always seen so many negatives about have amazing commercial stuff.
@@nocturnus7151 we can, but we have to hand deliver. If you have a buddy that hauls to dallas, he could pick up for you prolly pretty cheap :). Last one we delivered to your state dude got a couple of his buddies to get a mower too and they split the shipping cost.
Hi Kevin! The Scag Freedom Z: I'm looking at this mower to use on a handful of smaller residential yards. I like that it's lightweight and compact. I know you like a heavier transmission for commercial use, but if I am only putting around 5 hrs per week, it should hold up fine. What's your thoughts?
So honestly 5 hours a week is pretty heavy on those. If you can swing it I recommend going used commercial for the same price, or stepping up to 3400s. I do have some part time commercial guys using mowers like the freedom z, but a lot of them are replacing transmissions prematurely. It’s a super expensive part. They aren’t designed to stay cool for long periods of time, where 3400 plus transmissions are better. The patriot 61” would be a better option for you for sure for only a little more a month.
I hear Spartan has had good luck with them. I honestly don’t have much experience with the tuff torque at all sorry I’m not much help. You may look up blogs like on lawnsite and lawncare and just search them out and see what people that own them say.
@kgmowers how are the Spartans compare to these other brands? How is customer service? Where I live scag, badboy, spartan and hustler are in my area with scag being the closest to me, and the others being about 45 min to 1 hr away.
@@OhSoBrownguy007 Spartan isn’t bad. They have made lots of improvements. We stopped carrying them not really due to a bad product, the bad blood between them and bad boy was a really big issue for us. We hate the key pad, but they are offering a key as an option I believe this year which we highly recommend.
Get 3200 transmissions, Parker ht10s, or bigger and you will be in good shape :). Any brand will have this option. You’re gonna spend a minimum of $7k on a mower unless you get used to make a smart purchase decision. Our best seller is the maverick of course with the suspension system, and it being one of the cheapest in this category.
Another great video, thanks! In reference to the Scag 48" 2022, do they come with Tuff Torq TZ450 Transaxle ? I thought they changed that this year?? Whereas the 3100 still only comes on the 61".
Yes the 61 has 3100s. The 48 has a tuff torque. Spartan uses those and raves about them I haven’t heard good or bad. They are new for Scag my last ones had 2800s
Great video. I'm pulling the trigger on a 60" maverick for my 5 acres tomorrow. Still undecided on which engine to go with, Have a choice between the Kawasaki FS730v, Briggs CXI27, and Kohler Confidant 25. Leaning toward the larger Briggs because I'll only be cutting twice a month and the grass will be thick,. Any suggestions?
I am a big fan of the briggs for sure. Customer service is amazing for us. Also love the better air filters on the briggs and the kohler. Kawasaki definately has better parts like starter/coil pack that’s why it costs more.
There's got to be a dealer within an hour of your house. Unless you live in like the hills of Montana or west virgina.... hundreds of miles from civilization, haha. But then again if you're a mountain man - do you really need a lawn mower? Does one mow... a mountainside?
Hi Kevin, I can get in 48" deck zt elite with briggs cxi for $5199 (cash) + tax gravely zt hd with Kaw for $6199 (cash) + tax raptor xdx with Kaw for $5949 (cash) + tax which one is better choice ? Gravely dealer is close by but the badboy is from a big box store like rural king and hustler dealer is 25mi away. Can't trade in my current mower at the big box store either.
That’s actually a really good price on the xdx. The Fastrak deck is amazing. It’s usually around 6500 or more. On the zt elite that’s at a discount too. The gravely isn’t discounted at all it’s actually a little high. Do you have a real bad boy dealer pretty close? A dealer will have the special edition 20 year anniversary zt elite coming in I’m getting mine tomorrow. They are 6k, but have a ton of upgrades and features. The box stores aren’t allowed to get them and they are very limited. If you don’t have a bad boy dealer with mechanics and parts I highly recommend the hustler.
@@kgmowers I do have a badboy dealer near by ~20mi but he only has zt elites with Kohler. I can't wait to see the limited anniversary edition mower. Please make a video. I'll wait to see that mower and then decide. thanks for the help!
Uncle Sam’s always gotta make his money of course. No we don’t quote with tax as a lot of people have farm exemptions, buying from out of state, etc. our rate is 8.25% here.
They don’t really exist in our market. Grasshopper dominates. Then bad boy. A few gravely. Scag is growing. I sold some Spartans. A few kubotas Our city runs hustlers, college scags. Errbody else been grasshopper for 30 years. No toro, Exmark, Ferris, Deere hardly at all in the field.
I like your style. I wish any of my local dealers were honest or even somewhat informed about their products.
Just picked up a bad boy elite for my small .25 acre yard. Done in 10 minutes, love it.

Very pleased that your going with made in the u.s.a made .
Wish you would add Toro Titan Max to the line up , for comparison.
Thanks.
We don’t have a toro dealer within many many miles of here. Only ones I’ve ever seen were a few commercial traded in and mostly the Home Depot stuff.
Nice video great equipment 👍

The best question to answer your question is application. What are you wanting to do? What's your lawn or job sizes? @nocturnus
Replace the deck hanger on the XDX and its the best mower hands down IMO.
Can you please do a maverick, vs freedom z vs radius ?
We don’t have a radius, but the maverick would smoke both radically in specs. The maverick is more like the Scag patriot or the $9k exmark
