Well Justin I guess Bad Boy should make you a rep. Because of your video I went to a dealer today and tried out that seat and you were 1000% spot on. Having had back surgery, the seat was the difference. I now own a Maverick HD. Thanks for making an informative and straightforward review. Keep it up. 😊
Based on your review, I decided to get the suspension seat. I looked at the difference between the Maverick and the Maverick HD. The seat is about a $800 dollar upgrade for the Maverick. The seat comes standard with the Maverick HD. The Maverick HD has the 3400 hydraulics, and two 6.5 gallon tanks, in addition to also having the suspension seat. I found the Maverick HD with a 60" deck Kawasaki engine at my local dealer in stock and I bought it for not a lot more than adding the suspension seat to a Maverick. My old riding lawn tractor used to beat me up. No more getting beat up with the Maverick HD. Thanks for the advice in your review. I am very happy with my purchase.
Congrats on the new ride! I got 3400 Hydro-Gear as well. The HD version is a better choice if the money is right. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
I have a 60" maverick and love it. My Son bought one and I loved it so I got one. I do 5 grave yards in one day and my son's crew comes and does the weed eating after their day job. The only thing I would of changed in your video is to tell people about the trap door at your feet to replace belts which in two years we have not done yet. I used to mow my lawn with a 54"deck Cub lawn tractor which took 4 hrs. I now do it in 2,5 hrs. I do spend about 3 gal of gas but it is worth it and I feel so much better when I am done with the air ride seat. I do have a rough field that is part of my my yd.
Yes, Kohler is excellent. I would recommend to you that after you start it, you let it warm up for a moment, not just take off on a cold engine (it's not a car). Then, same principle... once to move the machine go >slow< for the first minute or two.. Let the hydro and belts warm up a little. The machine is already saving you a huge amt of time, you can take it easy on it when it's cold to avoid future problems (also same thing on shut-down: idle the motor down for a bit first) 👍 ~
And don't fire it up cold at full throttle. Also, after running it hard for a while bring it down to idle for 30-60 seconds to let the engine cool before shutting it off. This allows everything to cool down evenly. Also won't vapor lock the carb, so it should start without the choke once warmed up.
My most valuable takeaway from this fine video of yours, and my other research, while I'm shopping slowly : Ergonomics! Ergonomics! Ergonomics! Our bodies should Priority One In your 70s like me: Ergonomics matters. I was going toward a bobcat as my son has been content with on his 3+ acres now for 8 years running right...and from a dealer, not big box store. Er
Thank you for all the great info! We just bought a 2023 Bad Boy Maverick for about 4 acres. I'm the main mower and I can not tell you how excited I am to try it out. We moved to this 5 acre property 3 years ago and have been using a 1986 Deutz-Allis 5215 tractor to mow. Not only is it a rough ride, it is not easy to maintain blades, belts, etc as the access to these you have to remove the whole deck. On top of that the cable to adjust the deck keeps breaking so I have to manually do it...Ahhh! what a pain! The fuel access is hard for me to manage because it is too high and a 5 gallon container lifted above my shoulders is heavy for me. Maybe I need to workout haha. But I finally talked my husband into getting me something practical and easy to work on. Next move is to get that AIR RIDE SEAT! Thanks again!!
I bought the Maverick in 2022(March). Overall I would agree with most of you observations. My experience is build quality is by far the most durable of any of the zero turns I have had. At least at the price point. So easy to grease the fittings, change the filters/fluids in the fall before you put the battery on the tender.😉 I use a blower to clean it off after use, and I always blow off the machine, never use water until its completely cooled down. Especially on the deck parts. I don't want to weaken or warp any parts....... I mow about 3.5 acres and its fairly smooth, but if I were mowing rough ground or mowing a lot. The seat is worth it. I have the 54" deck, just for maneuverability, lot crap to get in and around on the property. I have the Kawasaki engine. I really would like to have the Briggs with 28HP. Just for a little more power at the blades. I don't need to go any faster. 7, 8, 9 MPH who cares, I would say its around 5 mph around the entire yard. I never need the choke after its been running. I will say this the Kawasaki is LOUD. My neighbor has the same machine as I do but he has the Kohler and its not as loud. You might say why would it matter. Spend 2-4 hours sitting in front of it and you will understand. I always wear ear protection, but just noteworthy that it is a louder motor.
Louder than the kohler? I think the kohler is loud as hell. I agree, after mowing 3 to 4 hours straight sound population begins to be rather bothersome. Definitely want to use good ear protection. I like listening to some music and just getting my mow on. Just picked up the wife a EGO Z6 electric zero turn. I don't expect it to be a Maverick, but after some use, I will try to review that also. I really want to try the DR 60" electric mower but haven't seen it anywhere other than online.
Hey Man one of the best Maverick reviews I’ve seen thanks for taking the time and showing us the real deal on this beast! Was looking for this exact mower with the Kawasaki but all dealers near me were completely out so only option left that they had was a 2022 Maverick “HD” so had to pull the trigger on her damn the bad luck haha! Getting delivered on Monday can’t wait to try out that air ride seat!! Thanks again for the awesome video jeep ‘em coming!
Wow! man I dig how you explained everything where I can understand it, I have learned quite a bit this morning here in Indiana...thanks Justin, now I want me a Bad Boy Zero Turn..
Traction on the tires on ANY zero turn has the same effect on wet grass and does not matter what tire you use. I say this because I've had many diffetent tire options and cut many lawns. Choking is the same with all of them no matter what engine you get, that's just the way it is. Good informational video. Thank you.
A lot of times tire spin depends on the grass. Here in the south, especially in late summer and fall, we have a lot of crabgrass emerging. Doesn’t matter if you have studded tires, you’re still gonna spin.
In November of '22 I purchased a '23 Maverick HD 60" & IMHO the Honda EFI is the way to go all day, can't speak on the others because I wanted a Honda and had my dealer special order it. This thing is a BAD AZZ beast. I cut a total of 10acres, about 3.5 is "yard" the other 6.5 is the "field". Here in SC the "yard" gets cut basically weekly and the "field" monthly and I love this beast. My neighbors say "shoot, I'd buy a tractor and bush hog that field", why do I need to invest in a tractor and bush hog when this "BAD BOY" does it just as good, actually better, plus has a better overall look than bush hogging. I will DEFINITELY as you stated say put the air ride suspension seat setup on, don't skimp on that upgrade, as well for myself personally just because I didn't want to worry about getting flats from the small Bradford Pear tree thorns that constantly try growing up in the field, I put the Michelin No-Flat X-Twill grade tires on the rear (unfortunately an expensive upgrade) w/ the factory Bad Boy No-Flat fronts. YES, does it's probably make for a "harder" ride, I'll agree, but the seat setup makes up for it, and I don’t have to worry about flats ever. Any consumer out there better look in to the Bad Boy lineup before they make a purchase, can they get "pricey" yes, but consider my cost of I added in a tractor/bush hog setup just for my field. This thing does it all and does it all very well, I as well added the rear hitch and I move both a bass boat and a camper around on my property w/ it (I know it's not built for that, but it'll do it), I'm about the same as you are on the fuel consumption, but I think it's a fair shake @ the end of the day. Oh yeah, to both all of the present owners & prospective, do your maintenance (very simple and all easy to get to as you pointed out" as well blow it off w/ the lawn blower after every cut & I think it'll hold up for many, many yrs of exceptional service. Sir, your videos are spot on and very informative, I enjoy all of your content. So keep on "BAD BOYIN".
Excellent video with very practical demonstrations and explanations. About the only recommendation I would have is you need to reduce the repetition of the same points. Thanks again and take care.👍👍👍
I was headed to tractor supply to get a Rambler, I decided to find a dealer so I wouldnt get a scaled back version built for a box store. Left the dealership with a Maverick Picked out, Watched this Video, Called the Dealer, Had them Deliver a Maverick HD. Kohler 26HP with that Special Seat. The "Game Changer!" it only takes 15 Minutes to mow my lawn. I look at it a lot thought. Thats definitely worth something. Purchased the Cover and the Chute block with it. 3 Months Still havent got it
I have a horribly bad back. Seat upgrade is a must. As far as fueling the machine, I purchased a battery operated transfer. One hose in the tank and the other end in your gas can on the ground. Even has an automatic shut off.
Thanks for your review. I'm in the market for a new mower. It was the best review I've found yet. My land has quite a bit of wetland so to speak. I've been cutting with a basic rider but would like to speed up the process. Do you have any advice regarding using the Badboy in wet areas. I picked up your comment regarding the spinning tire in a sharp turn in wet grassey areas but what about basic flat wet grassey lawns. Not flooded of course just wetter than normal spaces like the base of dykes. Also how does it handle on slopes. One more question. How hard is it to sharpen the blades. Can an old farmer handle it? Haha
@@Tracy-g6xI've found that you can't always trust that automatic shut off. I've overfilled the tank a couple of times and now I'm a bit paranoid LOL 3 different transfer pumps so it isn't just one bad one.
Excellent point on the seat. As someone who for two years, cut 7 acres of the church grass on a Hustler for 7 hours Each Saturday, I was totally beat up in the lower back, and tailbone at the end of the day. No knock on the Hustler by the way, it was a great mower. It just would've been nicer with some sort of seat suspension. That was 10 years ago, I'm sure they've addressed the issue since then.
Appreciate it! That is kind of my point on the Kawasaki engine vs Kohler. I'm not claiming the Kohler is better than the Kawasaki. However the suspension seat is something many buyers, especially new buyers overlook because of the options "status quo" being recommended. Depending on budget some can afford all the options and others are pushing the limits to get a mower of this size. I try to respect all angles. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
This has probably been mentioned, but without reading all the comments, you can replace that gas spout for a few bucks at Tractor Supply type store. I agree, that looks like a royal pain! Great review! I'm not sure if the camera was set on "portrait" mode, or what, but the focus was always on you, whcih made the mower out of focus quite often. Not a big issue, but a little annoying. Thanks for taking the time! Very helpful.
Thanks for the video! I'm in the market for a new mower and have considered a Bad Boy. My son is pushing me toward a John Deere like his with the air ride seat. JD is pretty pricey but our dealer will loan you a mower if yours need work and bring it to you and pick yours up. Thats a big deal, dealer is 2 hrs away.
Good video Justin, thanks. Like to hear from owners with experience rather than only from the salesmen. I have a number of older mowers I want to upgrade, hopefully to a zero-turn, so I'm in the market. A couple items I'd like to mention. At 13:50 you mention the tires spinning, consider filling the rears with liquid, could make a difference. And the roll-bar in the up position, most all of the commercial mowers I know and have seen just leave the roll bar down most often, but that'd be your call (hills???). Regarding engine, you're spot on. I have a Kohler engine that's been running great for 21 years on my main lawn tractor mower. But my Kawasaki on my stand on only lasts about 9 - 10 years. And I service everything myself annually, use seafoam regularly in the fuel and so forth. Something I noted was the dealer displays/sells a Kawasaki engine rebuild manual on the wall behind the cash register, I guess for just in case it's needed! Come to think of it, my Koehler's and Brig's all out perform my Kawasaki, just my experience. But who knows, maybe the newer or commercial Kawasaki's are better! Specifically, the valves are the issue for my Kawasaki, they give up and the engine losses compression - then hard starting with low power. Again, I have an older, smaller Kawasaki. Can't remember the model because I parked it a few years ago, just not in the mood to do another valve job. But also, the engine needs to be properly sized to the machine and how it will be used. The engine drives both the mower and cutter so it needs to be up to the job. I think the older machines had to go through some years of actual use before the mower manufacturer figured it out. Yeah, not the engine's fault, but more likely the mower manufacturer for under sizing the power for the machine, just a thought!
Very well said. I should consider filling the tires. I did that on my Massey Ferguson sub-compact tractor and it definitely makes a difference. Not sure why I never thought of doing that on the mower. Thanks for the tip! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just got a ZT Elite. I have a small yard for a zero turn but hated the tractor options. I wanted the upgrade in the suspension. I opted for the upgraded seat (game changer) with the Kawi, rear basket and the advanced chute. I got the 48" deck so I can get into the tight places I used to have to push mow. Great review!
We brought one of these from Wichita Tractor company in Wichita ,ks. They help move us into a mower as he said that was just right for us and the areas we have to mower. If you are interested, take a trio to Wichita Tractor company in Wichita, kansas, on West Street. Can't miss them because of of the farm equipment and bad boys out front
If you are looking into Bad Boy Mowers, you can consider Spartan Mowers. One of the guys that helped build Bad Boy company decided to start Spartan. Both well-built mowers.
We have an older bad-boy. It's been a decent machine mostly. I've gone through deck spindles and a couple of the idler pulleys. The hydraulics have always been perfect. The chassis is built very well. It mows better than the JD 1025R with belly mower. Some of the parts give off the stench of Cheap China parts (the deck spindles and pulleys).
My biggest question is why dont any of these on the bad boy line come with an Hitch for example for pulling aireation tool behind? And the only reason im considering the maverick is because its more serviceable than any of the other ones on the lower line than to have hydraulics and other thing thats sealed and not serviceable.
@@JustinsProject what do you mean bought one on Amazon for 15 bucks the hitch it self? Or dose it already have a port for a ball and tongue that goes into the hitch?
@Mr.Weatherspoon NO, mine didn't come with one, either. They are available from BB, as an accessory, though. I just ordered a receiver, but it was much more than $15 for the real deal.
Great video 👍 I just bought a Maverick HD 60" and love it. I feel your aggravation with the new style "safety" gas cans.....everytime I use my gas can with that dumb safety b.s. I feel like throwing it onto ground and stomping it 🤬😂😂
Great review Justin! I was looking at getting a Cub Cadet and stumbled upon the Bad Boy zero turn. Will be reaching out to the OK dealer and finalizing the details. Best!
@@JustinsProject good thing kubota zero turns has verilty seat options and 3 engines option kawisaki, kohler, and kubota diesel options and enclose cab optional too and there decks are 10 gauge steel wich solid
I mow about 4 acres around my house and barns with a 2-year old BB Maverick with the Kawasaki engine. It makes for fast and easy work even for this old man. Nothing wrong with Kohler engines though. My old Craftsman rider had a 23 hp Kohler and was still running excellent after over 20 years of mowing west Texas caliche rocks and sparse grass. I use a '52 Ford 8n with a 5' shredder to mow the pastures.
Wow, that's a great video. I'm considering buying a Bad Boy and your video was very well done and honest which I appreciate. Looking forward to learning more about the Bad Boy before I buy. Let me know your recommended videos please. Thanks.
4 gallons to do 6.5 acres is GREAT! My diesel Grasshopper uses more than that (About 6 gallons). Thinking of getting one of these MAverick's (I mow off about 6.5 acres too)..just as long as the 24's are still carbureted (Don't want EFI- Not going to invest in a specialty scanner just for one mower. I maintain and repair my own stuff). Truly a great review, and you can tell it's honest! Oh..and I have a Kohler on another mower, and it's been the best small gas engine I've ever had.
Had the same problem with newer style gas can spout. Got a battery powered pump at Harbor Freight for a few bucks. Set the gas can on my tailgate (have an old ranger) and it works great.
Great and really well made video! This machine is probably 2 step above my Toro ZS5000 (Kawasaki engine) Which is a "in the middle" residential mower I would think. This is the 10th season and it has served me well. Greetings from a new subscriber in Sweden.
I'm moving to a new house with a 2 acre yard. I've been looking at several brands of zero turns. I'm leaning towards a Bad Boy. Not sure if I have enough land to justify a Maverick, but after your video I want one... with the suspension seat!Great video. Very informative.
I've been looking at the Bad Boy mowers and I like the Maverick. Might make the stretch to get the Rebel or the Rogue though. I don't see me using the ROPS much. While I have a pretty hilly yard, we also have an orchard and surprise wheelies are no fun when that ROPS bar catches a limb. I have a Cub Cadet Ultima ZT2 60 currently. It wasn't really what I wanted but stock was limited when I bought my house in the Fall. It's been a really reliable mower for the past 4 years though. I couldn't see dropping big money on a suspension seat for that so I got one of those Trac suspensions that mounts between your seat and the machine. It adds a couple inches to your ride height but it really makes a difference to the ride. For under $200, it's a no-brainer If you don't want to spring for the seat.
The Maverick has been a great mower and I continue to use it weekly. I would like to have the Rebel X but I can not justify buying it just to have it. 😀 Although, I bet the suspension seat with those tires would offer an even better ride. Plus it would be roughly an additional 250cc. If it's in your budget check out the Rebel X ( badboycountry.com/mowers/rebel-x )
I got the Maverick 54" for our non profit. It does not have the awesome seat, but we can make do. If we buy another one I'll definitely upgrade to the Maverick HD.
Great video on your Bad Boy mower. I’ve watched a ton of videos on the Bad Boy and it looks like a great mower for the money. That air ride seat would be top on the list for me as well.
Appreciate it! So far I am pretty happy with it. I am going to be changing those blades very soon. I might try to make a video on that. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
I bought a new maverick 2016 model with mulching blades and i love it had it since new and never let me down i had plenty of compliments on how nice it cuts mine has the switch operated deck never had any issues would buy another bad boy mower again definately
Man I have the Rebel and mow fields like this all the time. I just did a 4 acres the other day with 8 ft tall weeds with tough 1/2 inch stalks and no problems at all. Did not even bog down and did it half throttle lol.
I bought a regular tractor funnel for my bad Boy and use the non safety 5 gallon cans to fill it with non ethanol gas. That funnel takes gas as fast as you can pour.
I might give that a try. I bought a battery-operated pump that I use for my diesel fuel - works fantastic! I am thinking about getting one for gas. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
He definitely likes the seat. Having recently bought a Kioti tractor I can tell you the trucker seat is tge bomb. Just purchased a Bad Boy land plane. May consider their mower.
😂I am considering selling my Massey Ferguson GC tractor to get another tractor with a suspension seat. That thing beats the living hell out of me. I love the tractor but the ride is dreadful.
Awesome and congrats! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do this one. I will definitely keep everyone posted on the reliability and even general upkeep in coming videos. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Much appreciated! Et Elite is a good mower. I know a couple of people with the 60" Kawasaki. I think you will be very happy with it. Congrats on the new mower! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Hi Justin, Thanks for a very informative video. If I could ask..... can you raise the deck(for mowing long grass or such) and run the mower(cut) with the deck in the raised position? The reason I ask is that I run my Toro(Diesel) with the deck Up so that I can take the top of my back paddock which helps just prior to "fire season" and also I believe it helps to reduce the chance of my few steers getting Pink Eye. Again very interesting video and loved the demo cutting thank you. Peter (Australia)
Yes, I run the mowing deck sometimes at the highest lift by the foot lift paddle. It helps get me over objects like concrete pads and large gravel. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Thanks so much for your great review. I found a really good deal on one and moving up to it from the magnum very informative and helped me make my decision if you lived closer I’d buy you lunch.
Got a 2016 maverick, with the Kawasaki, it came with the higher end seat and I also installed a pancake air bag under it which made a big difference. Major difference between yours and mind is the deck lift, mine is hydraulic which my wife loved. Wish mine came with those rear tires, the turf tires suck because there is not enough weigh in the back to make them grip which made it hard to turn, since then I put ATV tires on it but have to be careful not to cut the ground up. I paid $6000 out the door. I cut about 6 acres and have about 400 hrs. So far the biggest problem is the bearings in the spindles and pulleys. We test drove many others in the $5000-$7000 dollar range and because of the rubber suspension was the main reason for the purchase. If I could have afforded it I would have purchased a Ferris with the coil over shocks. The maverick has been a great mower
@@comixof2morrow I would recommend High Lift blades. I have some of those copperhead mulching blades but after a year of use, I like the high-lift blades better. Cleaner cut and easy to sharpen.
It looks like you have a flat property..id take the Rops off. My property is all hills..different story. Great review! I need a zero turn to clean up behind my 8ft flail mower on my Ford tractor.
The bad boy rep. recommends not to use when the grass is wet so as mot to allow moisture in the spindle bearings ( even though they are sealed) Also with very tall graa I would make 1 pass with the max. height and the next pass with the desired height. Also I would discharge the grass on the outside not the inside where the uncut grass is. Finally even though this mower might be great and powerful in case I would be mowing something that looks more like a field rather then a lawn I would consider a medium size tractor (like 24hp.) because I could also use the rear PTO for so many options!
I have a 25HP Massey Fregurson tractor, but not everyone can have both. After getting it mowed down , it was pretty easy to mow it and keep it maintained.
I really appreciate you doing this review and showing how it can handle tall grass. My question is the warranty. A friend said if you don't let an authorized facility do your oil changes it can interfere with your warranty. Can you tell me if that's true or not?
I just bought the Bad Boy Rebel with a 61” deck and a 27 hp Kawasaki. I took it out on the back 15 acres and mowed trails. All I can say is Wow! This thing is a beast.
Funny, when I got to this part is just pissed me off. I have 6 5 gallon cans and I replace 3 of the nozzles and the other three I took the safety nozzle apart and de-safetyized them. Now they all work great. I also got some pop in vents and that also made a huge difference in filling time.
I've been running a hustler raptor SD 42" for my lawn care business for 2 years...I've put 300 hours on it. It has worked well for a $4300 mower. The maverick HD might be my next machine as it is the heaviest duty machine that's available with a 42" deck. Half my yards have gates. I mow 3-4 yards, 5 days a week...on a rig with no suspension or air ride...doesn't bother me much. The think I want the most is a faster cutting speed and a taller deck that can handle taller/thicker grass as my customers are bi-weekly and many yards grow thick and anywhere from 8"-14" tall between mows...enough to make the hustler have to cut slow or go back to get the tall stuff that bent over and didn't get sucked up into the blades on the first pass. But I will say that the hustler has held up very well to abusive use.
$4300 two years ago bought a lot more than it does in 2022. The Maverick is a tough mower. With the smaller deck because you are saving there, I would get the suspension seat and Kawasaki motor both. Load that bad boy up. There are a lot of good mowers out there, bad boy is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
I will have to look into that for sure. Hate those safety on gas jugs. I agree, I cause more of a mess with the safety than I do if it's free flow. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Thanks for the video nice work! But you definitely need to go to your local tractor supply or Atwood's and get you a 6gal gas jug for under 30 bucks! Make it way easier and faster to fill your tank!
Funny you ask that... I just put out a short a couple of days ago on that. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/users/shorts5f7L0waogrk - Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Nice Video. I have a 2010 Lightning 54" with the Kawasaki 24 water cooled engine and spring adjustable seat. Had to replace the lean running carb at 5 years and also put no -flats on the front at that time. Other than the carb no other failures. Still going strong.
@@kramnull8962 No it started running lean and I had it cleaned in a ultrasound bath and it still ran lean so I bought a used carb on ebay. It runs better with that used carb than when the mower was new.
Very well done video. I think u just helped me decide if I wanted to spend the extra $$ on the Maverick or not. What was the "out the door" price on yours? (If you don't mind me asking)
Appreciate it! I purchased it at an auction. I am always looking for deals and ways to save. I almost bought a Gravely at the same dealership I bought my Massey Ferguson tractor at. Then this Maverick showed up just before I got a chance to go get the Gravely. I'm very pleased with it. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
It really depends on how tall I let it grow before getting out there and mowing. If I mowed once a week I could probably the entire property in 1.5 - 2 hours. Not including the trimming and areas I can't get to with a 60" deck. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Do you know how the gas usage compares to other engines? I’d like to upgrade from my Cub Cadet XT1 riding mower but I only have 1.5 acres so a zero turn isn’t a necessity for me and keeps feeling like it’s just a pipe dream.. but I still want one!! Lol I’m not sure which model I’d get but I 100% agree the seat upgrade is #1!! Take care of yourself first!
I can mow my 6.5 acres 2 times between fill-ups. That is depending on a couple factors. If the grass is dry and not over 8 or 10 inches tall in the field. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
“ I have heard that if you get a diesel mower, that it doesn’t use as much gas” Hahaha 🤣 you couldn’t be more right! Unless you put gas in your diesel mower, which I probably wouldn’t recommend to friends or family lol
If you can get a ZT Elite 60" with a suspension seat, that would be perfect for you. If not, the Maverick is your next step up. I could be wrong, but the suspension seat is an option on the Maverick and is standard on the Maverick HD. So, in the end, it might be best just to go with the HD since those options are so expensive. ZT Elite would save you some money, and you will still be adequately sized for your place. I almost got a ZT Elite for my 6.5 acres, but I am glad I went one step up in the lineup. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
@@connielawrence1560 The Avenger does not have the full suspension. I believe that starts at the ZT Elite. However, I am not sure if the suspension seat comes as an option on the ZT Elite. Those are usually left for the PRO mowers and the Maverick is their top-of-the-line residential and entry-level commercial. ZT Elite has 3100 Hydro-Gears. Vs the Avenger's 2800 Hydro-Gears. The Maverick steps it up to 3200 Hydro-Gears with adjustable levers and some other good add-ons. The Maverick HD is 3400 Hydro-Gears and so on. Hope that helps.
I never owned or operated a zero turn mowers always had either push or standard riding lawn mowers my Poulan pro riding mower is about to clunk out and I'm considering about zero turn mowers any suggestions ( residential ) mowers please
Bad call on the engine…. At 300 hours that Kohler will need a starter, headgaskets & carburetor. The Kawasaki would be smooth sailing all day long. That’s not an “air ride” seat… it’s spring suspension & can be added to any machine after the fact.
I will have to disagree. I had a kohler engine on my old husqvarna that had over 600 hours on it. All I ever did to that engine was change the oil on time. We shall see if this one holds up as well as that one did. Right on as the technical name of the "Air Ride" seat. It can be added later and is highly recommended to do so if someones budget allows them to do it. My point is that seat saves the rider's body fatigue which is the most important. I plan on getting one for my tractor at some point. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
I agree, Kawasaki is by far the better engine. I see lots of Kawasaki engines on John Deere mowers over 25 years. Bad boy now offers the Honda fuel injected engine on the maverick. I just bought a maverick hd
Take The Kohler over the Briggs? Looking at Maverick HD vs ZT Elite 42”-48”.1.5 ACRES in Northern Minnesota-slopes, tress And wet in spring. Thinking the suspension might help on the slopes?
My one and only complaint about bad boy mower's is how high the seat is if you mow under tree limbs like i have to, but for the price difference between them compared to my exmark lazer z i understand why bad boy may be a better choice for some
Well Justin I guess Bad Boy should make you a rep.

Thanks for sharing! All useful info.
Yes, Kohler is excellent. I would recommend to you that after you start it, you let it warm up for a moment, not just take off on a cold engine (it's not a car). Then, same principle... once to move the machine go >slow< for the first minute or two.. Let the hydro and belts warm up a little. The machine is already saving you a huge amt of time, you can take it easy on it when it's cold to avoid future problems (also same thing on shut-down: idle the motor down for a bit first) 👍 ~
Thanks for the tips! Much Appreciated! Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
And don't fire it up cold at full throttle. Also, after running it hard for a while bring it down to idle for 30-60 seconds to let the engine cool before shutting it off. This allows everything to cool down evenly. Also won't vapor lock the carb, so it should start without the choke once warmed up.

My most valuable takeaway from this fine video of yours, and my other research, while I'm shopping slowly :
Ergonomics!

Congrats on the new Maverick. You got a great zero turn. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Kawasaki much more reliable and durable than any Briggs or Kohler.
Much appreciated 🙏 I am sure you will love it! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Friend of mine just got rid of the 2 John Deere‘s and I think he had a scag as well and bought the maverick HD and said he absolutely loves it!
Good job, buddy, i'm looking for a new zero turn.
Wow! man I dig how you explained everything where I can understand it, I have learned quite a bit this morning here in Indiana...thanks Justin, now I want me a Bad Boy Zero Turn..
Bad Boy Mowers are a great choice. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching and commenting
Traction on the tires on ANY zero turn has the same effect on wet grass and does not matter what tire you use. I say this because I've had many diffetent tire options and cut many lawns. Choking is the same with all of them no matter what engine you get, that's just the way it is. Good informational video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
I never choke my wright 48inch walk behind with a Kawasaki.
@@dakotaemily2980 Nice
Thanks for the feedback, I am working on improving my delivery.
3 Months Still havent got it
Awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
Dude go get you the racing can for gas even tractor supply has them they have a clear hose on them
I have a horribly bad back.
I've overfilled the tank a couple of times and now I'm a bit paranoid LOL
3 different transfer pumps so it isn't just one bad one.
@@JustinsProject Did you mention anything about the shock absorbers on the front "axle" ?
This has probably been mentioned, but without reading all the comments, you can replace that gas spout for a few bucks at Tractor Supply type store. I agree, that looks like a royal pain! Great review! I'm not sure if the camera was set on "portrait" mode, or what, but the focus was always on you, whcih made the mower out of focus quite often. Not a big issue, but a little annoying. Thanks for taking the time! Very helpful.
Thanks for the info!
I could hear you cussing out that gas can..... I was too! Great video.
You got that right 🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Yep. Cuss good ole EPA every time
Oh boy you hit the spot for me with filling the tank up. Absolutly stress releasing like meditating
I have had zero issues out of the Maverick.
Awesome! So, the suspension seat can also be added to the ZT Elite. That is nice to know. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
@@JustinsProject this is great intel about upgrading the seat!
Love it brother !! Been researching and decided to go with the Bad Boy !!
Honest and real review, I think I will go for the Maverick 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The Maverick has been a great mower for me. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Congrats!
Great review video. I am about to get a new mower and needed to see a good review on the Maverick. Thanks.
If you are looking into Bad Boy Mowers, you can consider Spartan Mowers. One of the guys that helped build Bad Boy company decided to start Spartan. Both well-built mowers.
I'm getting this exact setup next week. Upgrading from a cheaper 48" JD. Pretty stoked. Great video.
Congrats! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for sharing!
My biggest question is why dont any of these on the bad boy line come with an Hitch for example for pulling aireation tool behind? And the only reason im considering the maverick is because its more serviceable than any of the other ones on the lower line than to have hydraulics and other thing thats sealed and not serviceable.
I agree. It should come with a hitch. However, I bought one on Amazon for about $15. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Just bought a 2024 Maverick HD. Enjoyed the video. Very informative ✊🏻

That suspension seat is a game charger, right? Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
@jeffmullis-dr4no This is the one I'm looking at. How do you like the Honda EFI? What made you decide on this over the other options?
4 gallons to do 6.5 acres is GREAT! My diesel Grasshopper uses more than that (About 6 gallons). Thinking of getting one of these MAverick's (I mow off about 6.5 acres too)..just as long as the 24's are still carbureted (Don't want EFI- Not going to invest in a specialty scanner just for one mower. I maintain and repair my own stuff). Truly a great review, and you can tell it's honest! Oh..and I have a Kohler on another mower, and it's been the best small gas engine I've ever had.

Great and really well made video!
This machine is probably 2 step above my Toro ZS5000 (Kawasaki engine) Which is a "in the middle" residential mower I would think. This is the 10th season and it has served me well.

I'm moving to a new house with a 2 acre yard. I've been looking at several brands of zero turns. I'm leaning towards a Bad Boy. Not sure if I have enough land to justify a Maverick, but after your video I want one... with the suspension seat!Great video. Very informative.
Love the Maverick. However, it might be overkill for 2 acres. BUT I would recommend it, lol. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

I bought a regular tractor funnel for my bad Boy and use the non safety 5 gallon cans to fill it with non ethanol gas. That funnel takes gas as fast as you can pour.

Awesome stuff! Yeah I looked at the Ferris lineup also. Really nice mowers. Just out of my price range. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

It looks like you have a flat property..id take the Rops off. My property is all hills..different story. Great review! I need a zero turn to clean up behind my 8ft flail mower on my Ford tractor.
I have a couple of areas where I use the rops. Most part it's flat, though. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
The bad boy rep. recommends not to use when the grass is wet so as mot to allow moisture in the spindle bearings ( even though they are sealed)
Also with very tall graa I would make 1 pass with the max. height and the next pass with the desired height.
Like he says, get the air ride seat. It will save your back. I put one on an old Snapper Zero Turn and the difference is amazing.

Funny, when I got to this part is just pissed me off. I have 6 5 gallon cans and I replace 3 of the nozzles and the other three I took the safety nozzle apart and de-safetyized them. Now they all work great. I also got some pop in vents and that also made a huge difference in filling time.
Nice review my man, got one on order...

How you only do 4 yards a day? You just doing this a couple hours a day after your day job?
So how do you Y feel about the air ride seat? Good video!
REALL
It's ok 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting
Tractor supply sells a nozzle conversion kit to get rid of that safety. I spill way less gas without the safety.
I will have to look into that for sure. Hate those safety on gas jugs. I agree, I cause more of a mess with the safety than I do if it's free flow. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
I have ZT Elite with that Kohler. I love it. The seat too. The ZT does not have the push to lift feature....
I would love to have a push to lift option on my Maverick.
Thanks for the video nice work! But you definitely need to go to your local tractor supply or Atwood's and get you a 6gal gas jug for under 30 bucks! Make it way easier and faster to fill your tank!
Definitely 🤣🤘 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
The review is amazing. Seems like great longevity but at 2 acres I'm unsure. Are the others beasts as well?
2 acres, I would look into ZT Elite. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Can you add a hitch for pulling a cart?
Funny you ask that... I just put out a short a couple of days ago on that. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/users/shorts5f7L0waogrk - Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Good comment , a hitch is a must for me
You may have just sold me on this mower. Great video.
It is seriously a great mower. Tough as nails. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Great comprehensive review...nice job!

Nice Video. I have a 2010 Lightning 54" with the Kawasaki 24 water cooled engine and spring adjustable seat. Had to replace the lean running carb at 5 years and also put no -flats on the front at that time. Other than the carb no other failures. Still going strong.
Much appreciated 🙏 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Did the carb get tainted with ethanol?
@@kramnull8962 No it started running lean and I had it cleaned in a ultrasound bath and it still ran lean so I bought a used carb on ebay. It runs better with that used carb than when the mower was new.
God bless you Chris and Stacy. Btw, you need to change your closing, at least think about it.

Cold Beer to you Sr . Thanks for review.
Much appreciated 🙏 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
How easy or difficult is it to remove the deck to clean it and replace blades. What is the weight of the deck? How easy is it to change oil?
The is 7 gauge steel. It's very beefy! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
There is a way to dismantle the innards of those fill hoses and put a vent on the handle. to a search for these items.
My apologies, I don't understand the question?
You can get more traction by reducing the air pressure in the tires!
Tried lowering pressure in the tires before, but even on flat ground it slips.
Hate those gas can spouts. I get the old school high flow ones from tractor supply

Great video! How long does it take you to cut 6.5 acres? My mom is thinking about getting a zero turn and she cuts around the same amount of acreage.
It really depends on how tall I let it grow before getting out there and mowing. If I mowed once a week I could probably the entire property in 1.5 - 2 hours. Not including the trimming and areas I can't get to with a 60" deck. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Why did I have to watch the safety Nonsense. Thank you for the review on the mower.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Good practical video. That thing is a beast .

🤣🤣🤣 your killing me with the gas container
😁 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
“ I have heard that if you get a diesel mower, that it doesn’t use as much gas”
Hahaha 🤣 you couldn’t be more right! Unless you put gas in your diesel mower, which I probably wouldn’t recommend to friends or family lol
🤣 True ... Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
Which BB would you suggest for 2 acre country property? Want 54-60 inch cut and air ride suspension seating. Thx
@@JustinsProject can you upgrade on the Avenger to suspension/air ride seat?
I have 2021 zt elite 747 k .. does your mower have hydro reservoirs and have you serviced them yet? Thanks nice video!
Appreciate it! The mower does have hydro reservoirs. I plan on servicing them soon though. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
You are correct I have Ono. And it's grear
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
I never owned or operated a zero turn mowers always had either push or standard riding lawn mowers my Poulan pro riding mower is about to clunk out and I'm considering about zero turn mowers any suggestions ( residential ) mowers please
What size yard are you mowing? That really helps on my recommendation. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
@@JustinsProject roughly 2 ac.
@joe7528 I forgot to ask for your price range as well.
@@JustinsProject $1k - $4k

I agree, Kawasaki is by far the better engine. I see lots of Kawasaki engines on John Deere mowers over 25 years. Bad boy now offers the Honda fuel injected engine on the maverick. I just bought a maverick hd
I like the Briggs myself. Got one on my magnum. 11 years old and no problems. Don’t cut it any slack either
Take The Kohler over the Briggs? Looking at Maverick HD vs ZT Elite 42”-48”.1.5 ACRES in Northern Minnesota-slopes, tress And wet in spring. Thinking the suspension might help on the slopes?
Get the Maverick, Kohler is a bad ass engine. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻
My one and only complaint about bad boy mower's is how high the seat is if you mow under tree limbs like i have to, but for the price difference between them compared to my exmark lazer z i understand why bad boy may be a better choice for some

Ok thanks man. I really like the zt3400 hydro drives.
