    Thanks.
    There's no hook on our towbar so like you, we'll wind the breakaway cable on to the towhook.
    Useful advice about 'opening up the bellows ' on the hitch when unhitching to avoid any damage to the rear bumper.
    Last time I had problems getting the jockey wheel right.
    So I can see me having to experiment on the drive way once we're home.
    Just in case one doesn't come with the new caravan, we've already purchased the Maypole (?) pin alignment cap.
    After a ten year gap, in 6 hours time we're about to start towing again (a Freedom Jetstream Twinsport) This is all invaluable advice from you ... :-)

    Thanks for the informative video. I was towing a caravan for a friend and had never come across this type of hitch before. Very helpful in getting the hitch disconected from the car.

    Hi what would happen to the brake pads if you forgot to release the hand brake?

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you would completed ruin the breaking system and the break drums would overheat.

  • @rm55555

    Interesting but how do you hitch up if travelling solo with no reversing camera?

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to leave the boot up on my car and then centralise my aqua roll and reverse back until my parking sensors thought I was close then so the final adjustment by hand.

    Very well made video Oliver, liking the idea of threading the cable through the stabilizer handle I'll try that next time. I did notice that you had no registration plate on the caravan 😁😁😉🤔 a deliberate mistake no doubt just to see if we were all paying attention.
    Cheers
    Jon

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. You won’t be able to because you have the newer handle! I know I’m a geek! lol. We had no number plate as the number plate fixings gave way because it was sooo hot so it was in the rear window. I’m on holiday at moment and before we came away we fixed it back on. Thanks always for the kind comments. Cheers Oliver

    Does the Alko handle have to be pushed down fully?

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robert, yes for the Stabaliser to work correctly it needs to be pushed down the whole way. Hope that helps, Oliver.

    Great video. I suspect strongly that your caravan is more than 85% of the Kuga though.

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  ปีที่แล้ว

      85% is only an advisory… the caravan was in all cases lighter than the car.

    What, no safety breakaway chains

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The UK doesn't require Breakaway chains just a single breakaway cable which attaches to the handbrake. Thanks for watching, Oliver.

    You missed winding the jockey wheel up it lifts the back.of car. So it tells you its hitched a must do every time you hitch up..

    Should never put the breakaway cable around the tow ball

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes it’s unavoidable. On my new car I have a dedicated loop which I use but on this car there isn’t one so you have to go around the towball.

  • @TruckinAboutWithSteve

    Wrong, you do not need towing mirrors on ALL vehicles

    • @CaravanningwiththeCoxs
      @CaravanningwiththeCoxs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your correct Stephen. However, 98% of all cars that people use to tow caravans need towing mirrors. And even if you don't legally need them it's still good to have towing mirrors. Thanks for watching, Oliver.
