      Who the fuck does this? They must know that they are bad people the second the pull up the pot. They are ok with being bad?

      I personally like the commercial t⁸ype stainless steel pots. I fabricated and was involved with the manufacturer and sale here in Alaska. It was a small family business, plan to restart myself. The collapsible square pots are a favorite as well, as they not only stack well, they collapse real well out of my 18 foot larson.

    I’ve fished the same cheap pots for ten years and never had limits issues. They are just getting replaced this year because they are finally worn out. Bought four more Danielson $20ish dollar pots off Amazon. Sticking with the cheap pots.
    Good video.

    I just started crabbing this year (just moved to WA). I got the Promar traps, added a couple cheap dumbell weights to the corners. They worked great! I think they are very comparable to the Danielson traps lots of people like, but I like the opening at the top to remove the crab and put bait in.
    Recently saw a underwater go pro video on your other pot, looked like the crabs had more issues going up the ramps and getting into the pot.

    I used one of those $20 pots and old beat up rusting pots I got from offerup. Crabs dont care LOL. Good spot with plenty of keeper crabs is all I need. Good video!!!

      Thanks for the support and comment @Noob Fisherman. I have to say, I'm really in total agreement, a good spot beats all other variables every time it seems. After a few times out now, the only thing I've noticed with the cheap pots is the gates can catch and bend when folding it back up, if you're rushing it. ;) For now, I'm sticking with them.

      @@StabicraftontheSound how deep do you drop your pots? I only have an inflatable boat so i dont go very deep.

    • @StabicraftontheSound
      @StabicraftontheSound  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Noob Fisherman , All the videos I've posted this year are 25-35 deep depending on the tide. There's a plateau area about 60' deep off Lopez Island we've had really good luck at before. 80's a bout as deep as I've ever gone, but I want to try around 160-180 and see what happens sometime.

      @@StabicraftontheSound nice. I only drop mine about 30 ft max now since pulling them on a inflatable boat is quite difficult. Maybe someday ill have a real boat LOL

    Looks very much like a Danielson pot which have been around for decades for a reason. Easy to store on a small boat and effective for overnight soaks here in Alaska. I do not believe they fish as well as the bigger heavier semi commercial pots (made of re bar wrapped with rubber inner tubing and webbed with stainless wire) but a small boat can only carry a very few of the large pots and they are harder to handle if you don't have lots of deck space. It has been my assessment over six decades of sport crab fishing that it is all about where you set and having lots of fresh bait. The Danielson pots benefit from adding a bit of weight to keep them upright and secure on the bottom. I have used the collapsable webbed pots as well and the larger diameters seem to work well. The round webbed pots of about three feet in diameter also work well and have the advantage of stacking into each other to save space.

    • @StabicraftontheSound
      @StabicraftontheSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right about deck space. I love the folded pots because they take up very little space. If I and my kids are out there's no easy way to take 6 full size pots, but six of the folders can stow in many places.

    You need small lobster trap then you grab them all put in basket and check on the way to the next . Use salmon skins or pogies herring or I caught blues with leftover chicken bones . 4 door trap in few minutes under the dock had 4 with chicken bones

    Beleive it or not. The wally werld pot actually will work better. BUT you have to get the plastic stench off of it. Untill it been thru a few tides it won't work well. There is a current at all times which will magnetize the metal in the pot. The more you use it the better. Leave it without bait in water for a few tides. Like over nite. I usually tie it off to the boat dock kleat just dangeling.. it has to smell right and be . Also acclimated to attrack them .usually third time is a charm. Take a kid out with you too.

    I was wondering if the fancy crab pots do better when the tide is moving, vs when the water isnt moving, because of the access doors..

    • @nintendude1988
      @nintendude1988 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I've seen at that point it doesn't matter, crabs don't tend to feed when the tide is moving very good. They hunker down and don't move around much.

    what type of crab is that? also what's the best depth and tine of year for crabbing? we crabbed with a Bass Pro pot and didnt catch anything but that was one time. we used chicken necks, chicken livers and old fish. we pulled ours every 2 hrs and got nothing. That was Winyah Bay SC.

    Interesting channel. I purchased the first Stabicraft 2250 Walk Through Cab imported to the US last March. Been fishing and crabbing and fishing out of Newport and Coosbay/Charlston. It has two Honda 150's and a Honda 20 trolling motor on the back. How has Stabicraft quality been for you? Dean in Roseburg

    • @StabicraftontheSound
      @StabicraftontheSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Dean. There's a 2250 WT in my marina. They looks really nice! Someday I would like to upgrade, mainly because I would like twins instead of a single engine just for redundancy. The quality of the Stabi has been some of the best of anything I've ever owned so far. The only problems I've had after five years was one of the hinges on the bait station and that was an easy fix.

    Always tie your bait bags to the top of your trap so the sand fleas don’t devour it.

      Hi Joseph, I picked mine up form Boat Country in Everett, WA, USA. I want to say back in 2017, with the Honda 150, and all electronics installed, plus a decent trailer, and the taxes, it was between 60-65K USD, I think. I'll see if I can dig out the original paperwork on it and give you a more accurate answer. And thank you! The crab were tasty. Heading back out this weekend to see if I can pull a few more in. My kids love crab mac and cheese, and so do I.

    Location, location, location. You could be off by 50 feet and the crab could all run to one over the other. Makes no difference in my opinion.

    Great video! As a youtuber who does a lot of PNW fishing videos, I'd like to ask a couple questions:
    1. Is there a second person or is your camera on a tracking/gimbal system?
    2. More of a comment - if you wear headphones at the camera, you can rotate slightly to eliminate wind sound. I learned the hard way. Lol

    • @johnlivingston9217
      @johnlivingston9217 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      put a piece of foam or wrap a cloth over the mic will fix the wind problem.

    • @StabicraftontheSound
      @StabicraftontheSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. 1. Yes, sometimes, but I lost my fishing buddy a little over a year ago and had to start filming on my own. I've used solid mounts at various positions on my boat and count on the GoPro Hero 8 for image stabilization, and it seems to do a pretty decent job of it. 2. Thanks for that tip. Recently I've started wearing a Tascam audio recorder with a lapel mic. It records one channel normal and a 2nd I can adjust the gain on. I end up with three audio tracks I can pick from for the best audio. Filming on the water has it's own set of challenges doesn't it!

    • @StabicraftontheSound
      @StabicraftontheSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just lost my foam cover last weekend. I'm going to try experimenting with a few different densities and see what sounds best, and what stays on the mic the best too.

    This is a blatant misrepresentation. The big pot will cost you 3 times the prices of one of your "cheap" traps. Maybe explain this to your viewers

    • @StabicraftontheSound
      @StabicraftontheSound  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't price out the old trap before I filmed that one. I did notice just yesterday that the $20 trap is now $28 at WalMart! That kind of inflation on the older trap would put it around $180 after tax in todays dollars. Insane increases in only a few years.
