Oh my gosh!! Getting a shout-out on your channel was such a nice surprise!! Thanks so much Jesse! I fully agree that Ruin and Rising wasn't ideal. There was a lot I loved about it, but still so many things that weren't as good as they could have been.
I read Shadow and Bone, then tried to read the other two, and just ended up skimming them to figure out vaguely what happened, but I just couldn’t finish the series. Sorry, Alina, your books didn’t like me.
MonochromePhoenix I hate when its marketed as having a more action packed exciting main plot with a romance subplot then you read it and it turns out that it’s just a romance book with some light fantasy elements
@@mononophoenix2752 I feel like in YA romance the 2 characters have some instant hate for each other and then all of a sudden after 4 months they are suddenly having sex and announcing their undying love for each other.
I agree and disagree at the same time.. The ending brought something new a for sure unexpected, but I think I could be done differently and more logically. But the final scene with Four was awesome and brought tears to my eyes :)
Totally agree with Allegiant. Divergent was really good and I enjoyed the story, but the conclusion to the trilogy just fell flat and left me with a lot more questions about the plot and the world that these characters are in.
The first time I read scarlet I wasn’t crazy about it because I just wanted to see what was happening with cinder. But the second time reading it I enjoyed it so much more. And with cress and winter I didn’t have any issues at all. I loveeeeee TLC
A sequel I didn’t like is the second Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book. It’s called Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. It was just really weird, and felt very different from the first book. I know that was kind of a random one, but whatever. 😄
Queen of Shadows, The author completely changes Chaol's personality to make you hate him so that the author can shove Rowan and Aelin in your face. Plus...Rowan and Aelin had a GREAT friendship, but almost immediately in QoS he becomes Aelin's lapdog and is obsessed with her. It's weird, it happens completely out of the blue, and it's downright CREEPY.
That's promising to hear! I still have not read Tower of Dawn yet, I'm not sure why haha. I'm about to start rereading the series to see if my thoughts have changed and will include ToD before KoA :)

There is two times I have thrown a book across the room. The first book was Alliegent and the second book was mockingjay....both because the writer killed my fave character...I even screamed at the book my family thought I lost it. Heck after Alliegent I sat in my room crying my eyes out. Literally
~spoiler alert for those who haven't read Alliegent~ my favorite character that got killed was Tris. I feel there was no reason to kill her off. period end of the story, lol yeah I'm still bitter.
(SPOILER ALERT) Oh. I hated her lol. And I think there was a reason to make her die. I mean, she was always going in dangerous situations, like Tobias told her. And she was like the one who started the revolution, she was the most powerful, and this means she has more chances to die. ANYWAY this is my opinion. Peace and love :)

Personally Ignite me was my favourite out of the series because I loved her character development. I get your point about the ending, but honestly I would’ve been satisfied with an epilogue rather than more books 🤷🏼♀️
I agree with Scarlet being on this list! While TLC is one of my favorite series, I feel like Scarlet is the weakest link. I had a tough time connecting with her character. Have you continued the series? Cress is my personal favorite, and I read them back to back, so that might be a factor in why Scarlet didn’t seem as great. I still appreciate it’s value in the series, because it introduces my favorite character, Thorne!
Wow! I'm kinda excited to read Scarlett b/c Red Riding Hood is my fav fairytale so a science fiction adaptation sparks my attention. But, respect for you stating your opinion.👍👍👍👍
Winter is my favorite book and also my favorite character, couldn't tell you why but I just loved it so much. I do agree with scarlet being the 'worst' book but the entire series is still my favorite book series (except my favorite standalone book just got a sequel so let's see if I'll have two faves :D)

I understand what you mean with Empire of Storms, I found myself looking forward to reading about Lysandra and Adion and Elide and Lorcan and damn did I miss Chaol in that book but I think I still enjoyed it a lot as I realised that is what always happens to me when I read Sarah J Maas, I fall in love with the 'side characters' more than the main protagonist and her love interest :) Ugh, I hated the ship in the Grisha trilogy but I did love the trilogy

I think with City of Fallen angels it was VERY clear that it was mainly there to built up the story for city of lost souls... I just felt like nothing really happened . And besides Jace hanging out with Simon more There was nothing that I still care to remember. I wasnt horrible But my favourite remain City of lost souls and city of glass
It was the whole reason I didn't keep up with the series. I couldn't make myself read it.... too much filler. It broke my heart because I loooooved the first ones.
I WAS THAT WAY FOR SO LONG! But I really wanted to read TID and TDA so I decided to pick the rest up recently and I absolutely do not regret it! I think the payoff of the series is really worth it in the end. I'd encourage you, if you had the time and still loved the world, to try and pick it up again!

I just finished Cinder for the first time two days ago and I have fallen in love with Cinder and her story. When I was almost done with Cinder I was like “ooh! Maybe Scarlet will be Cinder in hiding!” Like a disguise name while she’s on the run. But then I read the synopsis and I was like, “No! I want more Cinder I care not, for Scarlet!” Since finishing the book I have been getting such this is going to be not as good as the first book vibes. So I’m glad my thoughts were confirmed with this video.

By FAR the one I agree with you the most on is Magnus Chase. I didn't really like the Ship of the Dead either, I was SO HAPPY that Magnus and Alex happened, but I feel like Uncle Rick strung us along for the Blitzstone romance and it never happened. I think the worst book sequel I've ever read was Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder, I gave the first book 5 stars and loved it so much, and then book 2 happened. I honestly have no idea if I'll continue, I think I'll just look at the first book as a standalone. And it's funny that you mention the Death Cure, The Maze Runner is my favorite book of all time and even I didn't like the finale.
Can I just say that I love the world map mural in the background. Allegiant Spoilers!!! When I saw Allegiant, my whole system curled. I threw that book so hard across my room I honestly thought I was going to break the wall XD So, I never really clicked with Tris? She was one of those characters for me that I tried forcing myself to love since she was the main character, but I just didnt live for her. Yes, she was a really good character, and yes she did amazing things, but..I just didnt click entirely with her, thus when she died, it pissed me off beyond belief, not because she died, but because of the effect it had not only on Tobias, but the entire story, and it made me so angry because it literally makes no fReAkIng sEnSe
Totally agree with you about Scarlet - it was my least fav of the series. I also have an issue with James Dashner as an author. I've the 1st book in any of his series to be amazing! And they all go downhill from there. He should probably be a standalone author. Good vid!

*Spoilers* I do agree with you on the points from Scarlet and Magnus Chase as I have read both. I thought they were good books but I was a bit let down when I compared them to the earlier books in the series. The plots were scattered and in Scarlet I wanted it to be less romance. Magnus chase was good but also did not live up to my expectstions that I put upon it as I was super excited about the first. Allegiant let ne down because of the ending and I cried a lot because of the ending. It was a little easy to tell that Tris was going to die as she randomly started switching POV. Death Cure made me really sad and I didnt like the direction that the author decided to go in. Great points!
Love those "descriptions" of those series :D Made me laugh every time. Btw. I mostly agree, especially that is always bad going into the book with high expectations or just reading even if you really didn't want to. 90% of times it ends with me not liking the book :(
The remark on Death Cure is sooooo true! The story legitimately shifted so far from the general plot of book one and two. I loved Maze Runner but by book three I felt that so much unanswered questions were left hanging and nothing was resolved...at all.
In books I rarely see any single characters.I don't mind romance in books as long as it's not cringy. But to be honest; I need some adventure up in these here books 📚! Haha😄
Just cant stand unnecessary romance, when it's just forced and the characters have no/barely any chemistry, it annoys me so much. If there's no character in the book that would be a fit then leave the person single how hard can that be
"...to be fair she has a lot on her plate, and she can't always please the reader..." that is actually helping me a lot with the "Me Before You" series, especially with "Still Me", thanks!
Ughhh Jesse your reviews are so great. I love tour critical opinions and that you identify the issues you have. My least favorite sequel is the last book in ACOTAR. It was expecting so much more... sacrifice. So much build up and I was left hanging.

Worth saying that I read up to half way through the death cure but was all questions, questions, questions and no answers - I felt unrewarded as a reader, strung along. Probably the worst book I've ever read lmao. Characters were somehow even worse than they were in the first book, bland, forgettable and interchangeable. The whole book felt like a dragged out filler, for some reason everything that happened felt so unimportant in the long run. T h e l o v e t r i a n g l e. Thomas passed out like 20+ times aka cheap cliffhangers to keep us interested. The noseless cranks and lightbulb monsters (who were supposed to be scary I assume) were so humorously bad that it was just cringy. Nothing makes sense in this book, every little plotline is left hanging and is forgotten, no answers are ever given to anything. I'm so sorry if anyone likes this book, but it is without a doubt one of the most boring pieces of crap I've ever read. I tried to read the Death Cure, but dropped it like 20 minutes in, it was just so bad.

Jesse, I totally get why you wouldn't love Scarlet and Wolf, especially if you're not into romances. I'm totally into the whole "Beauty and the Beast" thing, so Scarlet was my favorite book of the series. I typically can't stand it when the author pairs up EVERYONE in the series *cough* Falling Kingdoms *cough* but here it makes sense because they are based on fairy tales where the princess usually ends up with a prince type character. Love your videos and your positive attitude. Keep trucking!
At the end of the year, will you be doing a tour of your book library? Also, I really enjoyed these two books called ‘Stranger Than Fanfiction’ and ‘The Bone Sparrow.’ They we’re both incredibly moving and immersive. I hope one day you get around to read them. I think you’ll enjoy them x

There is two times I have thrown a book across the room. The first book was Alliegent and the second book was mockingjay....both because the writer killed my fave character...I even screamed at the book my family thought I lost it. Heck after Alliegent I sat in my room crying my eyes out. Literally

Oh. I hated her lol. And I think there was a reason to make her die. I mean, she was always going in dangerous situations, like Tobias told her. And she was like the one who started the revolution, she was the most powerful, and this means she has more chances to die.

I agree with Scarlet being on this list! While TLC is one of my favorite series, I feel like Scarlet is the weakest link. I had a tough time connecting with her character. Have you continued the series? Cress is my personal favorite, and I read them back to back, so that might be a factor in why Scarlet didn’t seem as great. I still appreciate it’s value in the series, because it introduces my favorite character, Thorne!
Wow! I'm kinda excited to read Scarlett b/c Red Riding Hood is my fav fairytale so a science fiction adaptation sparks my attention. But, respect for you stating your opinion.👍👍👍👍

Winter is my favorite book and also my favorite character, couldn't tell you why but I just loved it so much. I do agree with scarlet being the 'worst' book but the entire series is still my favorite book series (except my favorite standalone book just got a sequel so let's see if I'll have two faves :D)

I understand what you mean with Empire of Storms, I found myself looking forward to reading about Lysandra and Adion and Elide and Lorcan and damn did I miss Chaol in that book but I think I still enjoyed it a lot as I realised that is what always happens to me when I read Sarah J Maas, I fall in love with the 'side characters' more than the main protagonist and her love interest :)

I think with City of Fallen angels it was VERY clear that it was mainly there to built up the story for city of lost souls... I just felt like nothing really happened . And besides Jace hanging out with Simon more There was nothing that I still care to remember.

It was the whole reason I didn't keep up with the series. I couldn't make myself read it.... too much filler. It broke my heart because I loooooved the first ones.
I can say the whole plot of city of lost souls in a few sentences. It was just so ,,useless". Nothing really happend and the plot was sooooo slow
I WAS THAT WAY FOR SO LONG! But I really wanted to read TID and TDA so I decided to pick the rest up recently and I absolutely do not regret it! I think the payoff of the series is really worth it in the end. I'd encourage you, if you had the time and still loved the world, to try and pick it up again!

I didn't like Crown of Midnight. It was to slow for me and the only way I got through it was skipping ahead and reading random pages.

I just finished Cinder for the first time two days ago and I have fallen in love with Cinder and her story. When I was almost done with Cinder I was like “ooh! Maybe Scarlet will be Cinder in hiding!” Like a disguise name while she’s on the run. But then I read the synopsis and I was like, “No! I want more Cinder I care not, for Scarlet!” Since finishing the book I have been getting such this is going to be not as good as the first book vibes. So I’m glad my thoughts were confirmed with this video.

By FAR the one I agree with you the most on is Magnus Chase. I didn't really like the Ship of the Dead either, I was SO HAPPY that Magnus and Alex happened, but I feel like Uncle Rick strung us along for the Blitzstone romance and it never happened. I think the worst book sequel I've ever read was Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder, I gave the first book 5 stars and loved it so much, and then book 2 happened. I honestly have no idea if I'll continue, I think I'll just look at the first book as a standalone. And it's funny that you mention the Death Cure, The Maze Runner is my favorite book of all time and even I didn't like the finale.
Can I just say that I love the world map mural in the background. I'm new (just subscribed after watching one of your stuggles a reader goes through videos) and I was wondering if it was a wallpaper or painted on or just one huge poster. Sorry if you've already answered it but I'm looking for something similar to go in my library near my writing/reading nook. Great video by the way. It's really disapointing when a sequal doesn't live up to it's predecessor. It makes it hard to finish a series when the first and/or second book is lackluster.

When I saw Allegiant, my whole system curled. I threw that book so hard across my room I honestly thought I was going to break the wall XD So, I never really clicked with Tris? She was one of those characters for me that I tried forcing myself to love since she was the main character, but I just didnt live for her. Yes, she was a really good character, and yes she did amazing things, but..I just didnt click entirely with her, thus when she died, it pissed me off beyond belief, not because she died, but because of the effect it had not only on Tobias, but the entire story, and it made me so angry because it literally makes no fReAkIng sEnSe

Totally agree with you about Scarlet - it was my least fav of the series. I also have an issue with James Dashner as an author. I've the 1st book in any of his series to be amazing! And they all go downhill from there. He should probably be a standalone author. Good vid!

I do agree with you on the points from Scarlet and Magnus Chase as I have read both. I thought they were good books but I was a bit let down when I compared them to the earlier books in the series. The plots were scattered and in Scarlet I wanted it to be less romance. Magnus chase was good but also did not live up to my expectstions that I put upon it as I was super excited about the first. Allegiant let ne down because of the ending and I cried a lot because of the ending. It was a little easy to tell that Tris was going to die as she randomly started switching POV. Death Cure made me really sad and I didnt like the direction that the author decided to go in. Great points!

The remark on Death Cure is sooooo true! The story legitimately shifted so far from the general plot of book one and two. I loved Maze Runner but by book three I felt that so much unanswered questions were left hanging and nothing was resolved...at all.

Ughhh Jesse your reviews are so great. I love tour critical opinions and that you identify the issues you have. My least favorite sequel is the last book in ACOTAR. It was expecting so much more... sacrifice. So much build up and I was left hanging.

Worth saying that I read up to half way through the death cure but was all questions, questions, questions and no answers - I felt unrewarded as a reader, strung along. Probably the worst book I've ever read lmao. Characters were somehow even worse than they were in the first book, bland, forgettable and interchangeable. The whole book felt like a dragged out filler, for some reason everything that happened felt so unimportant in the long run. T h e l o v e t r i a n g l e. Thomas passed out like 20+ times aka cheap cliffhangers to keep us interested. The noseless cranks and lightbulb monsters (who were supposed to be scary I assume) were so humorously bad that it was just cringy. Nothing makes sense in this book, every little plotline is left hanging and is forgotten, no answers are ever given to anything.
I'm so sorry if anyone likes this book, but it is without a doubt one of the most boring pieces of crap I've ever read. I tried to read the Death Cure, but dropped it like 20 minutes in, it was just so bad.

I'mma be That Person and say that the reason I dropped Maze Runner was because you have that many boys shoved in a small space over a long period of time in a high tension and stress area and somehow.... they're all heterosexual. Jesse, I totally get why you wouldn't love Scarlet and Wolf, especially if you're not into romances. I'm totally into the whole "Beauty and the Beast" thing, so Scarlet was my favorite book of the series. I typically can't stand it when the author pairs up EVERYONE in the series *cough* Falling Kingdoms *cough* but here it makes sense because they are based on fairy tales where the princess usually ends up with a prince type character. Love your videos and your positive attitude. Keep trucking!
