I learned to drive in one of these. A KR200 Cabriolet. Great fun, but a little unstable on corners as it tended to tip over. My friend's older brother collected them and had three: two KR200s and a KR500 Tiger. My friend and I used to tear around the field at the back of his house, wearing old flying goggles and pretend we were in WW2 dogfights. Well, we were only 14 at the time. Great video and thanks for bringing back some fond memories.

Thank you for bringing us these beautiful memories of the Me-200-KR, one of my cousins had one, equipped with loudspeakers, and an open-reel Geloso recorder, he did commercial advertising on the main avenue of the town back in 1960 or so!!!

Cheers, from a one-time Isetta owner! During 1968 and 1969, I put 13000 miles on it before it spat the dummy; fun to drive if you didn't mind limiting speed to 37mph, which even as a 19 year old, I decided was its comfortable and safe cruising speed. I drove it from Auckland to Napier twice as well as daily driving. You can use Google Earth to see how long that trip was - an 8-hour epic! It cost $180 in Dec 1967 ... 10 years ago, a nice one went to auction and raised $24000!

When I was a kid my father has an Isetta (3 wheeler version) and the chap down the road had a Messerschmitt just like yours....They use to race each other down the dual carrageway. The Village cobbler had a Peel P50.....Well it was the 60's (I think maybe I'm showing my age)

Brings back memories. Back in the day I had an Isetta and my cousin had a Messerschmitt. I got to drive his car a couple of times. Those cars were so much fun. We went out one Sunday on a hot sunny day with our girlfriends, and down a country road with a ford over a stream. I followed my cousin and he took the ford at 30 mph and so did I. We had the sunroof open on the Isetta and when we hit the water it came right up the front of the car and in through the sunroof. I and my girlfriend got soaked to the skin, but we laughed so much it was worth it.

Your description of that fateful night was perfect. Made me laugh out loud. Reminds me of the time I was taking my new-ish car through the car wash for the first time and my son was curious about what that button on the ceiling did and pushed it: It opened the sunroof! We got soaped and washed for a few seconds and had a nice laugh about it!

So cool. After WWII Germany could not have car factories. Messerschmitt had delivered together with Junkers airplanes for the 3rd Reich. Only later on in 1955 Messerschmitt could make cars again. This cabinscooter with a 150cc or a 175cc two stroke engine was the first vehicle they made.

Take note younglings - that was considered a car at one time (sorta). We just take these for toys these days, but I've known people who used these as daily drivers in their time. I'm not saying all vehicles should go back to the basics, but look at what sizes we build today!

Aww the good old Messerschmiitt Kabinenroller as we call it in Germany. A legend, a neighbor from mine had this as his city car and drove nearly daaily with it. These where cheap student cars in the 70s I was told, nowadays there are expensive collectors items. To go backwards you restart the engine the other way, how nice is that :-)

The front seat design is really nifty in that you can cantilever it up and back to ease entry. After 1945 the Germans manufactured anything and everything they could think of to make money, and of course they still had many top designers. Within 10 years Germany was enjoying its first Economic Miracle.

TY for sharing video or your vvonderfull collection . As you mentioned , the Messerschmidtt only has 8" vvheels making it get bumped around alot . Can the vvheels size be increased to a 10 or 12 ? As it could improve the ride if you vvanted to take it out for an extended period . I'm not sure hovv that vvould effect overall speed & mileage & I understand that most collectors vvant to keep them original vv/the least amount of "hot rodding" as possible . TY again & vvishing you many years of enjoying your fantastic collection .
