I love the way the rules are written. They perfectly convey the pedantic fae vibes of "you have not avoided giving gifts at noon, afternoon, or midnight despite being given fruit and apple." Wheter its "horse did not canter trot or gallop" or "pawn moved big mindedly", really conveys the tone and provides immersion
Bad chess player here, can confirm. Pawns can't move backwards, they capture different than their move, promote at the far edge, can do a double move, can do en passent, there is castling but only if those pieces haven't moved, repeating patterns are suddenly a draw, you don't actually capture the king, and all of that is before starting to talk about the literal thousand years of history, strategy, openings, endings, etc. This "advanced chess" almost feels easier.
@@masonbarber871 What do you mean pawns can't move backwards, they specifically have taken their backwards moving medicine in 1954 that allowed them to in fact move backwards at the expense of getting a heart attack when reaching the furthest spot on the board
I think it's very interesting to look for cheatless run. It forces you to play differently so that you are less vulnerable when you get cheated (e.g. rook jump all the way to your backrow). I think pawns are actually the most OP piece in this game, so make sure to keep a few unmoved to guard cheating. Keep your other pieces near pawns as well to react accordingly
Actually, I think the Bishop are the best in this variant. Olexa took advantage of them in his cheatless run: their ability to go outside the bounds of the board gives them amazing flexibility and they're probably very easy to utilize I kind of agree with you though. I think Pawns are still really useful for that, but personally I think are only second to Bishops in overall efficacy
@@Kogarana1 Bishops are great for offense and setting up pieces with their Knowledge they leave behind and the fact that they can essentially attack from all sides and run out of bounds. OP didn't make it *crystal clear* though it is for me, they mean that pawns are the most OP in terms of safeguarding yourself from a potential cheat in a cheatless run, as it guarantees a cheatless trade in case the enemy cheat-takes a piece
it might be fun to play this against another Human with each player having half of the Rule book. you could have hundreds of rules that get randomized every game. it would be playing chess as if you never played it before with each move being potentially legal or not forcing you to guess what rules your opponent has and which would be impossible with the Rules you have.
The pawn ascension thing is important because it lets you expend a cheat(move enemy piece) to take out an enemy pawn without having to move any of your own pieces into bad spots.
When countertrolling the game, I noticed that sometimes the troll's cheats would _blunder material._ Also some of the rules you didn't discover are particularly squirrely. I won't spoil them though.
I'd definitely like to see more of the endings. It seems like there were a bunch of other rules and hidden mechanics that didn't get used (like the tower thing or the pawns going to sleep) and I really want to see what they do.
As soon as I found out about this game's existence I couldn't wait for Tyler to play it. It was everything I hoped it would be. Please try for a cheatless run.
This has a delightful level of chaos honestly. Between the weird rules, cheating, and spontaneous ducks, it really feels like playing chess with a troll or other faerifolk.
There's a lot of other things you can do as well! There's an achievement called 'juggler' for example, where you can't move the same piece two turns in a row.
This looks like such a fun game! Imagine it gets turned into a bigger game with something like Mao rules, where you can't call out a cheater until AFTER you learn the rules you didn't know about
literally right the other day i saw this game and immediately think "i want to see aliensrock playing this" and it immediately come true one day after! wow!
... I feel like the duck might be a reference to an old programming story. An animator is working on the 3D models for a chess game. He makes the Queen have an animation where a duck (or swan) flies around her as she makes her movements, carefully never actually intersecting or interacting with her animations. He presents his animations to a project manager for approval, who says "this all looks great, but can you scrap the duck?" It's a lesson that people always want to contribute to the quality of something, even if they need to latch onto little things.
This game has same vibes as playing with your friends as a kid and getting smacked to the face by a bullshit rule that your friend invented at that moment to dodge your attack or deny your victory
There's actually two endings beyond the bad and good endings. Thankfully, you're already aware of what you use in both. Well, mostly... Regardless, I'm excited for you to join in on the chaos of Advanced Troll Chess 11th Edition... er, that is, King Of The Bridge. There's some really crazy rules and strategies you can come up with... (Also you haven't even encountered all the rules yet... there's more to come.)
The thumbnail is wrong. The troll is not allowed to do any cheat involving the king, other than to punish you for cheating. He must always take the king legitimately. This is because the Troll is not allowed to cheat in any way that would prevent you from accusing him of cheating. If the piece he uses dies or he takes your king then you wouldn't be able to accuse him. HOWEVER, the player is allowed to do cheats that result in the piece being destroyed. The troll is capable of accusing you of cheating when this happens, despite this being how the rules work. There is an exception to this -- the troll must be on the board (or out of town) to accuse you of cheating.
