The cross training of Martial Artist that share their knowledge is something that I have always enjoyed doing. You can learn so much about other styles and you often find new ways to apply techniques that you already practice. You also learn new techniques to add to your repertoire. Much respect to any Martial Artist that are willing to empty their cup and try another's tea.
blockmasterscott He's got a lightning fast entry. Probably doesn't telegraph either. Most people would probably feel the fist getting punched through their head before they even saw anything.

I'm going to answer this, even though a long time has passed since your comment. It's something psychological, they're not acting: your body "feels" threatened by the opponent because of how he changes his stance; you see him coming a bit more forward, as if he was about to attack, even though he isn't. This can throw you off if you're not ready for it! Naka Sensei does this often as a demonstration, with any kind of people. There are lots of psychological tricks in Karate!
I see kata techniques all the time in UFC. You have throws, takedowns, punches, kicks, spinning backfists, elbow strikes, and there may be more that I can not think of right now.
Karate is effective right from the beginning. Just because you've been beaten by "Heian Shodan Movements! it doesn not mean it is humiliating... It is effectiveness righ from the first day! That was a poor commentary indeed, funny but... poor!
You are correct, in that the usual old-JKA applications based solely around the oi-tsuki, were rubbish. However, I love it as an attack. Other styles don't use it, that means they also have no defense against it. Done correctly, as Naka Sensei does, it is lightning fast and hits like a freight train. Notice that his counterattack is an oi-tsuki. If you have hold of a sleeve, wrist, etc., it is a fight-ender.

NAKA SHIHAN IS A JKA
Beautiful receiving! Wow! That's real Karate there!
He is really good with that step in and punch. It looks slow from the side but from the front you can't see it coming.

We were taught this kata as pinan nidan
Pinan and Heian are synonymous. Some styles reverse the order of Pinan/Heian Shodan and Nidan.
its called Uchi Uke...
What actually happen in 2:57.. taking his center. guy loses his balance. are they acting it, I cant explain it otherwise, anyone?

We must stop propagating this rubbish. Nobody attacks oi tsuki in a fight. This technique is a throw. Get real!
If you didn't notice, that was a gyakku-tsuki, a premier competition technique (seen in MMA as well). Watch again and you might learn something...
Who says that nobody attacks with oi tsuki? LOL
How do you apply this as a throw?
You are correct, in that the usual old-JKA applications based solely around the oi-tsuki, were rubbish.
