    Peeta actually has many brothers, but they are not much different in age to him, so they didn't volunteer. Also, in the book he burned the bread on purpose, so that his mother got angry and made him throw it out. That was the only way he could give the starving Katniss the bread.

      Yeah lol I notice a lot of reactors misuse the phrase "called their bluff" (capitol actually folded to their bluff, not called) I think now it's just canon to assume it can mean either fold/call at this

    An often-overlooked detail in Hunger Games is Foxface (dubbed so by Katniss in the book), the redhead girl who dies after eating the poisonous berries. A careful viewer might notice that earlier in the training sessions Foxface was performing excellently at identifying edible plants from poisonous, so her death by consuming poisonous berries couldn't have been a mistake. One can infer that she knew she stood no chance at winning the games (her lack of combat skills repeatedly hinted at with her reliance on stealth and thievery) and so chose a quick and painless suicide over the tender mercies of other tributes or the sadistic traps of the gamemasters. That neither Katniss nor Peeta recognizes it and assumes she just made a fatal mistake is another nice touch, demonstrating the limits of their in-universe perspective.
    Also, the scene with the mutant dogs was much more gruesome in the book than in the movie, as all the mutants were described as having uncanny resemblance to the fallen tributes and implied to be engineered from their corpses to further mess with the minds of the tributes fighting them. In the same scene, Kato suffered an even more agonizing and protracted death because he was wearing body armor, the mutts mauling and ripping at him until sunrise with Katniss being unable to put him out of his misery.

    • @BobBob-qq9xn
      @BobBob-qq9xn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She didn’t know plants well in the book at least. She actually depended on stealing the entire games, then when the “feast” happens, her package contains food. She didn’t know the berries would kill her. They don’t grow in her district. Plus she’s shown in the books to be trying very hard to stay alive

    • @CyberWar666
      @CyberWar666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BobBob-qq9xn Then it is apparently an alteration made expressly for the movie. Still, a real nice detail to add to depth.

    Haymitch is such a tragic character; he won the games and went through all that trauma, then his reward was to mentor the others going through it, having to try and get sponsors for one of the poorest districts who no-one was interested in year after year and failing. No wonder he fell into depression and alcohol, think how terrible he must feel, no wonder he started not caring and not trying.
    And secondly the reason they take two from every district is to create division. The whole point of the games is to create division to stop the districts rising against the capitol. The capitol is very wealthy and basically leeches off and oppresses the districts by keeping them poor, to stop them realising they’re the ones with the power when they’re together and rebelling they make sure they’ll never work together. So they create these giant televised events where (for example) all of district 8 hates district 6 because a kid from district 6 killed their tribute, by having 2 tributes from each district it keeps the districts internally unsettled as well as keeping the “girl/boy” balance.
    Loved your reaction! And I would recommend reading the books if you ever feel like it, they’re very good.

    15:23 "Why do we have a winner? Why not round up 24 of them, at random, and execute them all?"
    Such an act would give the districts a common _foe._ If they _all_ die at the hand of the Capital, that makes the Capital the enemy of all the districts, _together._ And if you bring all the districts _together,_ with a common _will,_ against the _Capital,_ that makes them a whole lot harder for the Capital to _fight._ No, you have to have the tributes kill each _other_ so the districts remain _divided._

    4:25 No signature necessary when the Capitol has DNA records on everyone.
    12:36 I read the novel on which this film is based, and it says that Peeta saw how close to death from starvation Katniss was, and he deliberately scorched the bread so his mom would be forced to have him throw it out to the pigs that they had. Peeta, as you've noticed, is an excellent baker. I highly recommend reading the novels by Suzann Hamilton first before watching each sequel film. And definitely read the prequel novel "A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", the first to center on Coriolanus Snow in his youth prior to his ascension to the Presidency of Panem, and make sure you do it before Color Force Studios and Lionsgate produces the film adaptation.
    12:47 In the novel, that weight was 100 pounds heavy, and Peeta threw it like it was a sack of flour.
    13:23 This story is set some time in the future after a global cataclysm that decimated the Human population. It's speculated that Panem, in the area that we now call the United States, may very well be all that's left of Humanity around one hundred years after the cataclysm. Names will have changed by that time because language evolves over time.
    13:56 She must have figured she'd miss the first shot because she's never laid her hands on that bow before. It's common knowledge amongst marksmen that you never know how a weapon you're not used to handling is going to work. Her second shot hit its mark because she knew after the first shot how to adjust her aim with that particular bow.
    19:24 The subcutaneous tracker allows the Gamekeepers and Gamemaker to monitor the tributes' movements in the arena so they can adjust the game conditions to ensure a conflict and bring it to a proper resolution, so yes, they're being treated like animals in that sense. Celebrities in the Capitol, and animals in the arena.
    20:10 By Panem law, the Hunger Games are required viewing.
    24:11 Tracker Jackets are the ultimate evolution of the wasp, which even now a normal wasp or hornet is a hateful creature, knowing only hate and hunger. I saw a TH-cam vid about how a nest of Asian giant hornets stung a man to death just because they saw him, and they kept stinging the corpse for three whole days. They would have kept stinging him too, but by then first responders wearing heavy protective gear managed to remove the body. The only way to deal with a wasp is with fire. They're nothing but monsters, and death is the only thing they deserve because killing is all they do. And if they can't kill you, they'll still do their damnedest to inflict as much pain and agony on you as possible, because they're born of hatred and born in hatred. They're incapable of love or compassion or anything else. They'll even kill their own offspring for food in lean times. Trust me, Dasha, look it up. The sooner they're extinct, the better for Humanity.
    27:04 Yes, the impact will detonate the mines and destroy their supply cache.
    28:29 District 12 Salute to the Dead.
    32:59 In the novel the "muttations" are created from the bodies of the fallen tributes, and this is apparent in each one's physical appearance. The one made from Glimmer has her eyes, Katniss notices. You said it was another way to torture the tributes -- you were more correct than you realised. Transforming their bodies into mutts is desecration of the dead.
    37:40 Go take care of puppy, sweetie! By the way, I've always adored your Russian accent, you make it sound so pretty and musical.

      Winter's Bone is hardly a "little known flick." She got nominated for her 1st Oscar for Winter's Bone. The film won several awards, including the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic Film at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. It received 4 total Oscar nominations including BEST PICTURE, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor for John Hawkes. Jen was the 4th for Best Actress in a Leading Role and at 20 years old. She was also nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globe Awards and at the SAG Awards. As far as The Hunger Games series she was fantastic in all 4 movies but her best performance was Part 3. She's already one of the Best Actresses of all time. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook (2012). She has won three Golden Globe Awards; Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and Joy (2015), and Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle (2013). She also won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for American Hustle and she's won seven MTV Movie Awards (five for The Hunger Games series, two for Silver Linings Playbook),six People's Choice Awards (three for The Hunger Games and three for the X-Men series). She was also great in Don't Look Up which got a lot of Oscar nominations. She was great in Passengers and so many more. AND she SHOULD have been nominated for 'Causeway' this year. She was fantastic in that (and she also produced it). Now THAT's a 'little known" gem because it's exclusive to Apple TV.

    Regarding the OTT fashion of folks in the Capitol: it's an outward sign of opulence. The wilder the fashion, the more time it takes to maintain, the less practical it is, so you have the status in life where you can just talk, and give orders. You're not capable of actually physically doing anything, but you don't need to. There's lots of historic precedence for this, like the Poullet shoes worn by the King's people. Poullet are the very long, very pointy shoes that are very difficult to walk in. By wearing them, you're displaying your status in life, that you don't need to walk anywhere. Anyone who does need to be physical, can't afford, nor would want to wear them.

    Another film you might want to check out with a similar premise is 'The Running Man' starring Arnold Schwartzenegger.

    Can't wait to see how you react to the hydroelectric dam scene in Mockingjay P1. That shit hits hard.

    Dasha, please watch the next 3 Hunger Games movies. If you do watch them then you might want to keep some tissues close by in case you want them. You asked about the leaves on Katniss's arms. No they're not magic but certain plant's leaves can be used to draw out poisons and toxins from wounds like bee and wasp stings. Of course you're supposed to grind up the leaves and a little water to turn it into a paste first.

    Hunger Games was a collection of three books, but so much was happening in the last one, that it was decided to divide that one into two movies.
    Naturally, the titles for them have Part 1 and Part 2.

    Tbh Katniss' head wound was very unrealistic lmao the head is covered in veins very close to the surface so head wounds bleed pretty heavily, so much it's alarming, and that's if it's just a small cut! hers was pretty damn big 💀

    This was truly a quality reaction, and it only determines that the reactions to come are going to be just as good, not trying to pour on any unnecessary expectation, but the quality of writing and storytelling is so good and your reactions are equally as honest and so adorable; these journeys make having to endure TH-cam with all of its flaws, tolerable and worth it. When this movie first came out there was some press that got out that the Elites didn't like this movie that much because it tears off the shroud the System to which all of the lower and middle class are governed by. This is the world they envisioned for themselves being immortalized gods living off the backs of the oppressed, getting drunk off their own arrogance while making sport out of the suffering and corruption they wield from the comforts of their wealth and illusions.

    Donald Sutherland has depth and range as an actor. For instance, he was hilarious in Kelly's Heroes, a very convincing drunk in A Time to Kill and people forget that he was the original Hawkeye Pierce in M*A*S*H (the movie) as well as being a mystery figure in JFK.

    Before this movie, Jennifer Lawrence was great in "Winter's Bone." Her performance in that had to have influenced her casting in "The Hunger Games."
