"son" in other languages (Hebrew comes to mind) would often represent the same meaning as "younger offspring/decendants" so that could be another reason for it.

Love this movie so much. Such great visual design, based on the works of greats like Moebius. The tonal shifts are wild and Ruby Rhod steals every scene he's in. One of my favorites. RIP to Ian Holm and Tommy 'Tiny' Lister Jr.
Story, manuscript, visual concepts, comedy and musical score just come together and makes the perfect movie. Know every line by heart. So quotable.
This movie is an absolute masterpiece. Filled with great actors, action and comedy.

This is one of my top 5 movies. Luc Besson movies are great. "The Professional" is fantastic. Gary Oldman was in his prime... this movie, The professional" and "Bran stokers Dracula "are awesome. Miila and Bruce are great as well. Mila in "He Got Game". Bruce in all the "Die Hard"'s are iconic...
Crazy fact, I knew an opera trained singer who would occasionally sing the Divas opera at karaoke, and it was spot on.
Gary Oldman is still in his acting prime. Darkest Hour when he portrayed Winston Churchill, was phenomenal
I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with Gary Oldman's casting in this movie. He had just come off of playing Norman Stansfield in The Professional, which had almost redefined what the role of an evil character could look like. But in 5th Element Oldman's character can't do the kind of wild unpredicatable craziness that made Norman so terrifying. (In fact, Ruby Rhod has that role in this movie, despite not being evil.) I felt this role would have worked better with an actor who was more classically sinister.
Yes gary oldman was amazing playing Churchill, he was also solid Commissioner Gordon. but dracula, the DEA agent Stansfield, and Zorg. are by far my favs...

I was in 7th grade, my aunt took us to see this movie, and we couldn't stop talking how it was like starwars, Stargate all together
No one but Mila could play the part of Leeloo. She made up a language that became what she used in the film. She would practice it with the director (her husband) so it sounded authentic. Is she not the cutest?? 💞
Not only is this one of the most fun sci-fi movies I've ever seen, but the musical score by Eric Serra is exquisite.
Actually my favorite movie, was also my mothers favorite, RIP mom. Every single girl I've watched a reaction to this movie to instantly falls in love in such a cute way when Korben finds out her name and smiles quietly saying "Leeloo". Pretty adorable lol.
This is a great movie. One of my dad's favorites, and he always does Zorg's sales pitch word for word with the scene. I love this movie a lot too, but I think my favorite thing about it is all the transitions. SO many creative transitions from scene to scene!
I was really upset that this movie had absolutely nothing to do with Boron, but I did enjoy Milla Jovovich.

I was 10 or 11 when I saw this movie on VHS. It reaffirmed my love of Sci-fi, I got a HUGE crush on Milla(before Resident Evil). And brought my attention to Chris Tucker(before the first Rush Hour), Gary Oldman(Before I saw him in Batman Begins), Lee Evans(the hotel guy who asked about negotiating who was in Mouse Hunt)and Ian Holm(before I saw him in Alien and Lord Of The Rings). It also reminded me of good actors like the President (who I believe was also in Dark Knight with Oldman), Luke Perry(Who I knew from the original Buffy film), and the Chinese restaurant owner(who I later saw in Lethal Weapon 4). A few fun BTS stuff. 1 Luc Besson wrote this as a teenager, including the ancient language. The only person known to have mastered speaking it is Milla(who apparently used to talk to Luc in the language when they were on set). 2 the role of Ruby Rod was written for Prince, who declined the offer. 3 the Diva actually sang that part. That is not auto tuned. She actually did that
Inva Mula voiced the Diva, producing the finest performance of the aria from _Lucia di Lamermoor_ that I've ever heard. The aria was followed by a newer work which _did_ involve some audio post-processing, because it isn't biologically possible for a human singer to change pitch that quickly. It's an exceptional performance all around.
Always fun seeing someone enjoying this movie as much as I do! I remember when this first came out. They were calling it a “Star Wars for the 90’s.”
They weren't that far off. A lot of us Star Wars fans love this movie.
He didn't kill the soldiers, you can see the head soldier (Brion James) later in the movie.
Leeloo was played by Milla Jovovich who starred in all six of the live action Resident Evil movies. (I say live action, because there were a couple CGI films that are based on the same source material, but have nothing to do with the others).
25 years, and im still in love with Milla Jovovich (Leeloo). She's also pretty good in the Resident Evil movies as well.
Also, the theater I work at plays flashback cinema where they play older movies 2 days a week. I was able to see this movie on the big screen and it was *AMAZIN!* I also just saw the February lineup and immediately came back here to express my satisfaction, as The Fifth Element is playing in a couple months back on the big screen! I love it!
Love this movie! The Opera House scenes are shot at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. I'll be there tomorrow. It still looks exactly the same except they covered our Queens initials on the curtains.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. I never get tired of watching it
There's a backstory in this movie that's never actually mentioned...the New York skyline is so tall, not because they built on top of the pre-existing buildings but under them, because the global sea level has dropped; in this future, man went into space and established colonies but encountered many worlds without water, so they took much of the ocean with them. Look at the NY landscape at 20:08.
which tells me the writer didn't know their science since there's more water on Europa than in all of Earth's oceans

Dasha, Zorg the evil guy is Gary Oldman, one of our greatest living actors. Look him up because you'll be seeing him over and over in your movies.
This was one of my favorite movies back in the day.
I always wanted a sequel but never got one.
Love this film, not just for Bruce and Gary and Bilbo and Gaultiers wonderful costumes...
But mainly because it has Tricky in it!

My best friend and me dragged his wife out of the house to see this movie. She was kicking and screaming she didn't want to go out. At the end of the movie, as we were walking back to the car, she thanked both of us for getting out of the house that this was the funniest movie she seen a long time.
If you miss Star Wars, there's still episodes 7,8, and 9 along with Solo, Rogue One for movie. There's also several cartoon series and a live action as well. Still plenty more to discover in that universe lol
Not to mention the Star wars Christmas Special. It is canon, afterall!

One of my roommates my first semester in college in the 80's at USC was some dude from NY. One of his friends, a girl used to call him and I would answer the phone and talk to her a bit before giving him the phone or taking a message. That girl was Milla. She was pretty young and just modeling then. He used to tell me how she was from Russia and was going to be really famous some day.
She's not from Russia though.
@@-Devy- Not now (Ukraine) but back in 1988 it was the Soviet Union USSR (CCCP) (Union of Socialist States of Russia) but everyone called it Russia or Soviet Russia.
This is one of my favorite movies. Also it is the first movie I ever watched in HD on an HDTV in the early 2000s.
Lee Evans (the crewman on the cruiseship) is a hilarious British comedian. Very theatrical with his movements, and rapid.
Man, I was still 20 years old when this movie came out. Went to the theatre a few times to see this one. One of my favorites.

Il dolce suono (the Diva's song) it's one of the most vocal distressfull piece of opera ever made, and with the musical arrangements made for this movie (bassically, the second half of it, y'aknow, the techno-rock part), it's even harder......
The techno-part was deliberately written to be impossible to sing - Inva Mula makes a good effort but it has been fixed in post-production.

I'm so glad I caught your reaction to this - it is a sci-fi classic, with great comic elements (does that make six?).
So brilliant I have it on my hard drive, backed up from the DVD, so I can rewatch at any time, and I have, frequently enough to have lost count. As (like most) I have limited space, I can't put my entire collection on such instant access media, which is one reason that it bemuses me that computers are shipping without optical drives these days. Can any consumer really afford the disk space to rip a whole Blu-ray collection to disk? And will they not want to add to it over time even if they do have the space? I've figured it out, but it is a major inconvenience to have empty space, SATA and power capability in the case, but no front panel accessibility to it.
Your emotional investment in the movies you watch is so transparent it is a real joy to see, and brings back the enjoyment of the first time I saw them, and none more so than this.
You also remind me to rewatch some much-loved favourites.
Most people are Streaming/Digitally downloading these days, Netflix etc for movies, Steam/GOG etc for games. Also people used to compress DVD's so they would fit on 1CD(700MB), if you were using those, so lets say you've got an 8TB hard drive*, you could fit 11428 movies on it.
*Well it would be less, because it's not 8000000GB, its 7270000GB ish since it's 1024 and not 1000.
I remember the first family PC we had, had a 2x CD-Rom drive, and a 420MB hard drive. Could fit more content on 1CD than the entire hard drive. Would be like if today CD-sized optical media could hold 16TB of data.
@@lmcgregoruk Compression kills the quality though, which invalidates most of the point. Sure, you can compress a DVD onto a CD but will get VHS "quality", or a Bluray onto a DVD and get sub-HD quality. A CD of music will compress to fit in a much smaller space if you like compact cassette "quality". And I like owning the physical media, with all the additional artwork and information, even signed by the artists n some cases (try that with a Netflix or Spotify download), be it for music or video. Both formats are already compressed (with lossless compression) to the limit of what will give original quality.
So the size on CD or DVD is exactly what it will take up on a hard drive subsystem. Now, hard drives are relatively cheap (compared to other media of a similar size), and I can add 10TB to my pool for a couple of hundred, but it still gives faster access than finding the right disk and inserting it - plus, by storing the original, properly cased on a shelf, it is a backup copy protected against damage or machine failure. Compression is limited to deduplication (handled by ZFS transparently).
When I got my first PC my friends asked why I had bought one with a 40MB HDD as dos could not create or use a partition of over 32MB, but the other 8 had to be accessed on a different drive letter. there were ways around that but compatibility was not guaranteed. It was in some ways a downgrade from my previous CP/M system which although it could not nest directories, could at least use SCSI (with a bolt-on interface), and that in turn was an upgrade over the first, a ZX80, which used painfully slow compact cassette tapes. but data structures were pretty small back then, as were programmes. good programmers earned their money by saving a byte her or a byte there. Now it is churned out fast for convenience.
My optical drive is now a quad-layer Bluray writer. With the cost of Bluray blanks, only the absolute most valuable data is backed up on those. I know just a bit about data storage, as I was an IT consultant before medical issues forced early retirement on me. Some of my college mates used to joke that when I started my PC, the drive storage was such that instead of spinning disks up, the disks were liable to remain static and the machine spin around them.
Some of the systems I worked with ran into exabytes of data That is millions of terabytes in the days before they were redefined to need the "bi" inserted to make them binary based. (petabytes are in between at 1024 terabytes or under the now-current description, Tebibyes, as formally, each size now has a "bi" inserted into the name to designate binary storage using base 2 multiples where units go up in multiples of 1024 instead of 1000) Oh, and any encrypted data is de-facto incompressible.
My new system is soon to go live (I hope) with an initial 33 Tebibytes of HDD in one pool, cached with a further 3TB of M.2 NVME, itself using a volatile cache of 64GB of 3200 DDR4 RAM - all with redundancy and the ability to rescale. I love the ZFE-Z filing system/volume management! With all ports filled with current max capacity disks, the system will scale to 96TB spinning rust, backed by 48TB NVME (that is going to be a while though, as NVNE drives >2TB are currently a bit pricy) backed by an (unchanged) 64GB DDR4 3200. Plus redundancy of course. With external storage, it could go even bigger.
Naturally, I will not want to be using lossy compression! I'll also be slowly building up a NAS array for backup, although in the interim period I and a friend host an encrypted volume of each other's backup data through a VPN, forming a personal cloud. We are physically (VERY) remote from each other, so the chance of any event causing the loss of both systems is almost vanishingly remote. Being encrypted, I have no way of knowing what is on the one he has stored with me, or he of what I store with him.
Synchronisation takes place nightly and includes as many historical snapshots as there is space for. Because we use synchronisation not copying, it is fast, as only changed data is replicated.
Streaming is fine for transient data, but I'd not want to leave it hosted there once I've bought it - the company could suffer a data breach or go bust, taking my property with them. Or they might decide to start charging a fortune for me to access it - no thanks.

The only movie I've seen more than once in the theater, being 16 when it came out. It is quirky, funny, and visually spectacular. Plus, to a 16 year old, Milla was a goddess... still is.
This is one of the movies I could watch everyday for the rest of my life. Love it!

3) National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
It is no coincidence that you noticed the costumes in this movie- famous fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier was the costume designer
Absolutely love this one...it's one of the few sci-fi movies where Earth in the future is not just another dystopia. Besson also remembered that sometimes sci-fi provides an excuse to go absolutely nuts.

One of my go to favorite movies. Any time I'm changing through channels and it is on i watch it from whatever point it is at until the end.
I have a suggestion that I must make. It's not at all related to The Fifth Element. Rather, I noticed from taking a look at your Patreon that you've recently posted a reaction to Ferris Bueller's Day Off over there, which got me thinking that you should most certainly see the single most important and emotionally-moving work that Matthew Broderick has ever acted in: Glory (1989).
That said, The Fifth Element is a great film, and you should also definitely check out another Bruce Willis film--Die Hard (1988)--at some point in December.
Love this movie. You did know Milla Jovovich is from Ukraine, yes? My favorite movie of hers is “The Dummy.” A brilliant performance by her, Adrien Brody and the whole cast. Very funny and sweet. If you don’t use it for your channel you should still watch it.

I would describe it as a Sci-Fi Action Fairy Tale. I would summarize it with a repeated quote from you: "a bunch of things happening."

I remember I was a sophmore in high school when this movie came out and I was sooo hyped for it, no one else I knew was and our local movie theatre was across my high school and I bought a ticket for the first showing after school, might have been like a 5:30 pm showing, I think I still may have the ticket stub

This is my all time favorite movie! I was 11 when it came out. I had actually never heard of it, but about a year later my dad rented it and I saw Bruce Willis was in it, so of course I watched it! Greatest decision I ever made! I have like 4 different versions of this I have received as gifts. There are so many facts and what if's that surround this movie. Mel Gibson was offered the role of Korben Dallas, Prince was rhe first choice of Ruby Rhod, etc etc. You're reactions are the best!
Ruby Rhod is so obviously a parody of Prince that I have a hard time believing that they offered him the role.
I did not realize that Vito Cornelius was played by Bilbo Baggins, good catch.
Every character in this film was cast perfectly even down to Lee Evans playing Fog

I watch watching a random clip of the tv show Married With Children and coincidently Milla Jovovich was a hot girl character on that show and I never knew. Now she's Alice..or and Leelou

One funny thing about this movie is that the hero and the main villain, Willis and Oldman, never actually meet face to face.
It's funny, because the advertisements referred to this as "STAR WARS FOR THE 90S!"
