"There have been 53 major wars in Europe
France had been a belligerent in 49 of them.
In 185 battles that France had fought over the past 800 years, their armies had won 132 times, lost 43 times and drawn only 10.
Giving the French military the best record of any country in the world."

The Battle of Arcole, is what I think to be one of Napoleon's finest moments during teh Italians Campaign. Charging in the front while holding a banner and weilding no weapon. Inspiring courage among the troops from behind and risking to be hit by volleys of musket fire, and dangerous bombardments of cannons. Napoleon was truely a genius.

Before the fall of the First empire, France has often fought alone against the rest of Euope with at its hights Napoleon, LouisXIV and Charlemange challenging Europe and won most of the times.
France is the only country who had control over Europe by arms twice
ps: i hope your american and not British as they have never won an single war without allies against France

You dont know an gram about french millitary history ehh, british propaganda is your point du veu ehh ;^) the french army was from the late medieval till WW2 the world greatest army. Brittain had the greatest navy but well your army what war did they fight without paying others to fight or standed to fight you know that crushing french defeat in WW2 was as well yours?
France nearly always stood alone to fight Europe

  • @MateusVIII

If we are counting the results, like you say on the 100 years war than the french lost the 7 years war ( at least in the british point of view) and the french also lost the napoleonic wars and the franco prussian war.

Your list isnt even impressive. Its ussually the french facing 3 other nations and outnumbering them 3 to 1
In the napoleonic ages hundreds of battles were fought, only these few you mentioned were lost. Even during the french and indian war, the french were outnumbered in every battle but could claim victory more then the british could. Only when brittain send an new army, to get to Quebec the french lost, even through they resisted braverly

  • @MateusVIII

Hundred years war, in th end a victory for the french but for most of it a english victory, 7 years war, in th end britain won tough, and therefore doesn't count as victry, WWI and WWII britain and USA helped a lot and french were humiliated, French revolution was fought between frenchmen how can you make a win out of it? Algerian revolution lead to the algerian independence. and you might as well see that many of the so called victories you said were madfe with foreing support.

French histroy is very interesting and important on the cultural areas, but still the british have made more practical stuff and have a more impressive history. on the Culture part it is a close call but the British win in my opnion for being more tradional and mainting something like the monarchy untill today, showing how their traditions are important.

Yeah? So how about during the Napoleonic Wars when the British were the only ones to stand between Napoleon and absolute victory? I am talking about between 1800 and 1810 before he attacked Russia, when he got his ass kicked at Aboukir and Trafalgar. And then how come France lost control over India in the 18th century? Yup, the brits again. Actually in most colonial affairs, the French came out second.
