    Yes! That is correct! 1979 Beard Emerson 3400 countervibe. I picked mine up from a guy in Scappoose Oregon for $25 dollars. It was so dirty i couldn't even tell the saw was green! Funny to hear you say that you wanna make a loaner saw out of it! Anybody who has a collection of chainsaws such as myself (135 and counting!) Know that these saws are the cats meow! And just to throw a little information out there, that tag on the saw is a safty standard sticker for that year and confirmed that it met all the requirements for that year and you will find them on all power equipment like lawnmowers, chainsaws, ect... and as a collector I can tell you to find pieces that still have that sticker is a big plus! It tells me what year it was manufactured and you can give the right information to someone asking about the saw, and it tells me that the saw didn't have much time at all and well taken care of through the years! All it takes is to fall into the wrong hands of someone who is an idiot and they paint over top of it and drop crap on it cracking the plastics and such, not even realizing what a hard to find item a saw from 1979 in great condition is! Anybody who i ever seen who has a collection of anything always is looking for something nice enough to display and we have an eye for the good ones and keep them that way! You have no idea how sought-after these old chainsaws are these days! I set all of my collection in my front yard so I could take a picture of them, and I had people acting like it was a yard sale of chainsaws just last week! My neighbor owns a ninety thousand dollar corvette and nobody even glanced over at it! But they were plugging the street off to get a look at my chainsaw collection! 😏

      I was given one of these by a guy I work with a year ago or so,it sat under a bench until this rainy Saturday. Simple fuel line swap and a wipedown,I like it! wish he'd included the air cleaner and back cover!

      Lol, I hear ya. Some steel wool cleaned the paint up half decent.

    I have one, inherited it from my Dad. Can be stubborn to start if it’s been sitting for a while. Leaks bar oil, that can be a pain sometimes. But still gets the job done. Tried to order a new air filter for it. Looked it up, called and “verified” what it was for. Of course I got the, “oh yeah, that’s the one you need” B.S. answer. It came in, annnnnnnd, nope. Not even f**king close. So, cleaned the old filter and said f**k it.

    Just decided to rebuild father in laws 3400. He passed before I met him by a couple years and he has 4 saws sitting around. A newer Poulan, the 3400, a Mac 10-10 McCulloch and a Homelite XL-1. I’m going to get them all going to use at the family camp he built.

    Like McCullough and Homelite, once Poulan was bought out and became part of an overseas company the quality went down- That however is a good saw!

    Information online says they were introduced in 79, the models through 83 all look identical from what I've found.

    I have that Poulan 3400 with a 20" bar. It still runs great today. I take good care of it. Have replaced the fuel lines, starter pull rope and the choke lever. That is all . Have cut over 200 cords of dry pine standing timber into fire wood. Would not trade it a for a Stihl even for 1000.00.
    That's a barn find

    I don't know why it would be surprising. All metal construction. Nothing fake in the supply chain at the time.

      It's a shame the newer poulan saws have a worse reputation, gives the older saws an unfair rap.

    The saws were made from 1979 until the early 90s there's a good chance there is a date stamped in the hood over the sparkplug

    Two bolts on arm and it goes forward. These are great saws! If you know how to maintain and keep this in your fleet, they will out perform most current 55 plus cc saws.

    All mag case, bolt on jug with a bare bore cylinder. Around 55cc. These used a chrome plated piston. Auto oil pump with manual override. Good solid saws from when Poulan made good saws. Keep your eyes open for a 3700 or 4000. Those were their pro saws. Chrome bore, thin ring piston. 61 and 64cc I had a 28” bar on my 3700 when one of my big husky’s refused to start and we had a 40” maple to buck. I’ve had 20 or so in that series 2 left I think.

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice. That sounds like a saw you could sometimes score for dirt cheap because people don't know what they have.

    • @newstuffsucks...5754
      @newstuffsucks...5754 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s for sure. A trick I’ve used to get the really burnt in mouse poop and dirt off an old saw, WD40 of course then polish with 0000 steel wool. If you want to get the shine back, mix up some panther piss. 50/50 paint thinner and boiled linseed oil.

    These 3400s run forever. Perfect firewood saw. Mines never given me an issue but the power to weight ratio just isn’t there compared to other saws. These typically have low compression, around 120 psi and run an 18-20 inch bar well enough. Kinda just a bullet proof saw

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is true, you really feel the weight when going at it for more than just 15 minutes.
